Honestly, I don't know how to rate a guide book. I'm going to be moving to college this fall and I asked for this book as a way to prepare myself mentally. What I loved the most was the diversity of topics discussed and it had some unique tips. While reading I was still unsure about a couple of things and this book helped me make my final decisions.

Obviously this book won't interest everyone, but I would highly recommend it to girls that are going to attend college in the near future. Also- their website is FULL of many more awesome articles covering practically every question you have about college.

I will definitely bring this book with me to college, now I just have to figure out which of the others to bring :/

This book is a fun, girly guide to succeeding, enjoying, and thriving in college. Although much of the advice was common sense (know what to do in case an emergency happens, eat healthy, exercise, etc.) some of the valuable information was knew to me. For example, it emphasized LinkedIn and how to use it effectively to boost your luck in landing jobs, internships, and more. My favorite chapters were those on relationships, balancing academics with a bustling social life, and how to increase your chances of getting the internships and opportunities that you want.

Overall, I found a lot of the information in this book to be really vague, but I suppose that's to be expected from a book about college life in general. I'm not sure if someone already in college would find anything useful in this, but for someone like me who is attending college for the first time in the fall it's a fun, helpful, and interesting resource to have on hand!

I got this book for laughs, so maybe my rating is a little too serious. Still, while I appreciate the website, the book is a joke. Shallow, full of ridiculous imagery (that your dorm room is a "man candy shop," for one) and painfully heteronormative, Her Campus has hit and missed with this one as a "guide" to campus life. Two stars for entertainment value only.

This guide was an amazing contrast to 1,001 things every college student should know, and it actually got me excited to begin my transition into college. It actually had great information on sex, drugs, and drinking, without a heavy focus on abstinence or some weird religious influence. The only thing I didn't like about it was its flamboyantly girly tone and it's heteronormative focus. Overall, it's a great manual for a cishet girl going to college, but I'm going to need something a little more to navigate campus as an lgbt student

This was a cute guide that covers everything to do with college life. After I finished reading, my mom picked it up. My mom and I have always been super close, so she has been going from making dorm shopping lists to crying over my baby pictures. She is struggling with the transition and I think having her read this book helped her feel a little less worried.

I wanted to win this book because I have a daughter who will, hopefully, be attending college soon.
It has so many great chapters that cover a number of important issues for the new college attendee.
Chapters on dorm safety, sexual assault, roommates, and so much more!

This book arrived when my granddaughter, Isabella, was visiting us at our summer cabin in the Adirondacks of New York. She is attending Emory University outside of Atlanta, Georgia this fall as a freshman. We are very proud of Bella. She is beautiful, bright, and very talented. She is an accomplished dancer and has done a lot of community service as a high school student. I gave her this book. She continues to refer to it in preparing herself for college. It is a good reference book for young girls and she looks forward to taking it with her to school. Although we think of college students as adults, I feel that students like my granddaughter are not as mature as we often think, and need advice from many sources to make good decisions in their personal and professional lives. I have not seen many books like this on the market, and recommend this particular one to all girls who are dealing with new independent decisions in their lives and enjoying the college experience. This is an excellent resource.

The Her Campus Guide to College Life. Sound stereotypical? That's because it is.
This book is the perfect guide for the small percentage of women in college that have nothing better to do than party and hook up.
Do you want to know the do's and dont's on boning your dorm-mate? How about joining a sorority? Can you turn your drunken one night stand into your boyfriend? What pills can you mix with alcohol?
This might be important information for girls living off of Daddy's money and are just 'finding themselves' in college, but this is useless for the women who actually want a degree.
This will not in any way help you when you have 88 cents in your account, a full time job, part time internship, a scholarship to hold up, a crappy car, 15 page paper due, the flue, two hours of sleep, a professor who hates your guts, and how to live off of free crackers and tiny catsup packages from the campus Cafe without dying.

This book seemed to contain a lot of stuff you probably already know or have heard before. Idk, maybe it's just me and you might find something useful (there are helpful resources in the book for those who may need them, however). I would recommend maybe getting it from the library instead so you don't spend $10/12 on a book that will probably be information you already know.

Read the whole book in one sitting, if that says anything! I wish I had read it earlier so I could have given it to all my recent HS grad associates. It is very current and in the language of the newly graduated. First chapter, Dorm Safety. Yup, right up front. This books covers most "real" topics, sexual assault, drinking/drugs, dealing with roommates, mental health, sororities, etc.

Will be purchasing for future grad parties.

This was a quick read, and it was fairly comprehensive. Almost none of this advice is new (and most of it is just common sense), but I gleaned some useful tips, and this is a fairly convenient information hub. The language is very cis- and heteronormative, if that's an issue for anybody. I also found the word "collegiette" extremely irritating (especially after reading it for the umpteenth time). But other than that, this was pretty handy.

This book was very informative. I enjoyed reading through it. Since my university is not a traditional 4 year school, a lot of the info didn't pertain to me. I did find a lot of it helpful, I would definitely recommend this for those who are starting college. I wish I had this last year when I started, it would have really been a great tool.

It's put together very well but it has a lot of information on topics that aren't necessarily relevant or needed, but overall it's a nice book.
