How does one review a Baby Name book? lol I personally use it to name my Sims, and any original characters that I write. I also have an unhealthy obsession with names. I don't know why. I just love them! This book has TONS of names. I especially love the over 200 lists. They have anything from origin lists to 'Tomorrow Slackers'. The copyright is 2004, so it has all the uber popular names as well as my favorites... The Classics! I can't tell you how many baby naming games I've played in forums, my copy is so worn, by the time I have my own child, I'll need a new book! lol Anyways in a nutshell, this book has everything you need for naming your new baby. An Advice section, lists for those "Theme" parents :ie The Duggars with their J Names and all the girls and boys names your heart could ever want!
I now believe that there are not actually 50,001 (or 54,182 as the cover states) "best" baby names. At some point, I'm pretty sure Diane Stafford just started making up names for her own amusement. I mean, really, who would name their female child Schmoopie? Or Dusky-Dream? Or Panther? Or Blondelle? Or Pity? Not to mention the arbitrary nature of her lists - Tiago is one of the world's strangest names (I think the country of Brazil might disagree)? And how does one decide what name represents a future crooked politician? Or a future televangelist? Or future middle management? Or life strategists (what IS a life strategist???) Or names for vegetarians? I'm simultaneously sort of offended and kind of amazed at her audacity.
