Some secrets are never meant to be shared...

Scarred from a terrible accident, Lucas Stanby swore never to return to England. But his brother’s murder forces him home ten years later as the new Earl of Berkmond and guardian of his two young nieces.

As the local vicar’s daughter and a childhood friend, Moira Dorsey naturally set aside her hopes of a family of her own to care for the earl’s daughters. Lucas’s return makes it impossible for her to remain since he broke Moira’s heart years ago, but the girls have other ideas.

Lucas realizes he needs Moira to keep his personal demons at bay as well as deal with two rambunctious girls. He offers Moira a marriage of convenience, hoping to keep his dark secret, aware he’s too broken to be the husband she deserves.

Moira discovers Lucas’s cold demeanor hides deep scars but glimpses of the boy she loved give her hope. She counters his proposal, asking for a babe of her own, wanting Lucas to see he’s not the monster he believes.

Unable to deny his growing feelings, Lucas agrees, but his past disrupts their second chance at love, dragging Moira and the girls into danger. He soon realizes he must share his terrible secret with Moira and risk losing her forever in order to stop the villain who threatens them all.

Lana Williams wraps up her Secrets Trilogy with this third installment, Shattered Secrets. While it can easily stand alone as a suspenseful Victorian romance, for those who have read the previous two books this story spins a fun and satisfying tale of two people who struggle to come to terms with their feelings for each other, while also wrapping up the lose ends of a continuing suspense-filled plot.

Whew! That sounds like a big task but Ms. Williams is more than up to telling this tale and making it a delightfully fun story in the process.

When Lucas returns from Brazil to inherit his murdered brother's position as Earl of Berkmond he finds he's also inherited two young and rambunctious nieces. He also find their temporary governess, Moira, whose heart he broke years before when he left England after a terrible accident left him disfigured and tortured by demons he could not share with her.

Moira loves this man, despite his eye patch, gloomy disposition and mysterious head aches. She remembers the man he was and wants to help him, but she doesn't know if she can trust him. Lucas, meanwhile, is wary of sharing the ominous reason behind his headaches...and his desire to leave all he loves behind and return to Brazil.

But when Lucas' friends-and their wives-arrive, it's clear the mystery and danger that started it all is still lurking in the back alleys of London and, if they don't stop him, they may lose everything.

Want to curl up on a chilly night or a sunny beach with a good book you can't put down? This is the one. Enjoy!

Great end to a wonderful series

I loved this book. Lucas and Moira were wonderful. Moira especially - she is everything I like in a heroine. She is smart, loyal, loving and kind. Lucas is your typical brooding hero - the kind that you like but still want to smack. He is also kind and he honestly thinks his solution to return to Brazil is best for all (this is what happens when brooding men think - they get stupid).

I loved seeing Abigail, Weston, Emma and Ashbury again. And Lucas' nieces were very cute and funny.

This story started a little slow but once the others arrive it took off like a rocket and didn't slow down until the very last page.

Lucas' ability plays a very large role in this book. Much as Stephen's did in the first book. And I would not wish his "gift" on anyone!

We finally get closure with the professor and a very satisfying comeuppance for the villains.

The entire series is good - but I really didn't want this one to end. I wish there had been and epilogue - but it is well written, has steamy love scenes, very few typos, a truly warped villain and true love conquering all.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical romance or paranormal romance.

*FYI I won this book in a first reads giveaway (yes people actually win these!!)*

Overall I was pretty impressed with this book. Of course, after winning the book in the giveaway I had to read the first two initially. I have to say as a trilogy it was fairly well done. While it is not mandatory to read them in order it certainly helps as there is an ongoing plot through all three that gets wrapped up in this (the final) book.

The heroine (Moira) was likable and intelligent. She had me rooting for her and I could almost feel her pain when things were not working between her and the hero (Lucas). Lucas was another story. He wasn't unlikable, he was simply ... blah for lack of a better word. Perhaps I am used to romances with more spark and zing whereas this was more of a slow burn from childhood that turned into romance. However, I found the chemistry between Lucas and Moira lacking and believe this may be due to the tame Lucas.

The plot was exciting and the twin girls were great. At times when children are in romance books they can be bothersome or annoying. However, the little girls were funny and very sweet and I believe they added to my enjoyment of the book. It was also a nice reunion with characters from the previous two books. A nice conclusion to a nice series.

've been waiting for the 3rd book in The Secret Trilogy and Shattered Secrets did not disappoint. From the first page, I loved Moira and her devotion to the two young girls she cared for and felt so much empathy for her unrequited love of Lucas. He was a great brooding, tortured hero (my favorite kind) and the way his relationship with Moira helped him overcome his past was fresh and unique. This beautifully written love story had me turning pages not just for the passion between Moira and Lucas (hot as it was) but also for the deftly woven mystery. Lana Williams writes the best villains. It was great to visit with characters from the previous two books and I loved the banter between the three men and the way each of their wives is the perfect match for them. Can't wait for her next group of stories!

This sexy historical romance set in Victorian England is a nice tie-up of the trilogy. Lucas is a great, brooding hero who is convinced he's broken. I seriously love damaged heroes and how they change as they fall in love. Moira is the perfect compliment to him with her healing abilities but most of all, her love for him that goes back to their childhood. I enjoyed it when Lucas, Stephen, and Michael reunited to defeat the professor. Satisfying ending, though I hope we get to see these characters again one day.

Just finished the trilogy and loved all 3 books. This one was especially just thinking about all that Lucas lost when he left to go to Brazil and all he lost while he was away!! Losing your parents and brother which forces you to return to a place where such heart ache is. Moria is his only constant in the situation. He left her behind because he was broken, but he knew he loved her then. Another great story, when reading the characters just jump off the pages!! A wonderful conclusion to the 3 books!!

Strong conclusion of the trilogy!

Good character development and story line. Ms. Williams did a good job of creating a story that could stand alone, while completing the underlying story. I finished this book with a sense of completion.

The secret trilogy

This was the perfect ending for the journey I started when I started reading Unraveling secrets, the first book in the trilogy. Read this series if you enjoy romance intrigue and loveable characters

Mystery and love.

Science fiction at its best. A beautiful love story as well. The characters ability sense when something was not quite right made it more real.

A shocking romance

Third in the series. Well constructed story carried across three very special men who were made whole by the woman they love.
