As a holistic nutritionist with a bustling practice I am always looking for great foundational texts to recommend to my clients to help them begin their journey to vibrant health and wellness. Since her first book, Undiet, was published it has been one of my go-to recommendations and the companion cookbook completes the set to provide the most absolute, easy-to-implement lifestyle changes required for long lasting health.
As soon as you open this book the beautiful photography, the amazing colours, and the sheer joy that radiates from every page will captivate you. You will likely also want to raid Meghan’s closet. Short review: Buy this book. Your waistline, brain, and taste buds will thank you for the rest of your days. It is so much more than a cookbook; it is a roadmap to health, happiness, and total enjoyment of life. For the long review of why this book is just so awesome, keep reading.
The book is divided into three main sections: Introduction, Recipes, and Lifestyle. The introduction helps us get into the proper frame of mind to fully absorb and assimilate all the Undiet wisdom she will be dropping throughout the next 300 pages, including what you need to know before you get into the kitchen. Undiet is based upon the belief that no one diet is going to work for everyone and we are the only ones who are responsible for our health and well-being. Meghan uses her characteristic charm and light heartedness to hit at the core of a major issue in the nutrition world: most people are not willing to take their health into their own hands. But fear not my friends, because she is here to cheerlead you all the way to awesometown, fill you up with empowering knowledge and delicious food, and make you laugh and smile every step of the way!
The recipes are all drool-worthy and easily adaptable to suit pretty much any dietary or lifestyle choice you can think of with selections for Decadent Drinks; Dips, Crackers, & Spreads; Condiments, Dressings, & Special Wonders in addition to the staples of brekkies, mains, and desserts. As soon as you dive into these recipes you will want to run to your kitchen and immediately start slicing, dicing, juicing, roasting, and pureeing like a mad woman. Simple, delicious, and framed with beautiful photography, Fun Factoids, Undiet Health Tips, and ways to Take if to the Next Level, your senses will be engaged and your mind will be inspired to get to the kitchen and start creating.
Some Specifics I enjoyed about this book were:
1. The practical Before You Get Into the Kitchen guide that outlines everything you’ll need to have in place to rock the Undiet recipes.
2. The focus on dietary individuality for each person and the simple rules to follow, such as avoiding chemical cocktail “foods.”
3. The INCREDIBLE menu plans and prep guides for 6 different occasions including everything from Brunch to Girls’ Night to Kids Parties. You will be able to entertain like a rockstar with this resources.
4. Amazing tips for how to take Undiet living on the road for those of us who spend a lot of time on the road.
5. The recipes!!!! All of the recipes in the Undiet Cookbook are gluten-free, dairy-free, and free of ingredients that have long lists of ingredients. Most of the recipes offer options to go fully vegan/vegetarian or to adapt to your needs and add more animal sources of protein. Her goal is to be inclusive and let the reader decide what works best for their body, not to tell you that in order to be healthy you MUST eat this one particular way. It’s an incredibly freeing and inclusive way to design a cookbook! Some of my favourite recipes include: • Brain-Fuel Smoothie—full of nutty, awesome goodness to start your day! • Uncoffee—Now I will admit I was never a coffee drinker, but this spicy, rich and creamy beverage will give you an energy boost without the awful caffeine crash. • Breakfast Parfection—I loved the concept of using banana, avocado, hemp, and coconut oil to make a tummy-loving, brain-fueling yogurt as the base of this parfait. • Sweet Potato Zucchini Hash Brizzles—Anything crispy and crunchy that reminds me of hash browns gets an A+ in my books! I used the grain-free option and they were delicious.
If you do only one thing for your health this year, buying The Undiet Cookbook should be it. You will not regret it for a moment!
Never before have I had a cookbook where every single recipe looks really delicious, nutritious and is achievable to make...and I would ACTUALLY make it. That is certainly the case for this new cookbook by Meghan Telpner. I was eagerly awaiting the release of this new collection of recipes after stumbling across 'UnDiet', Meghan's first book, and being instantly hooked. UnDiet really changed my life and the way I approach my diet and health I recommend it to anyone I can! Meghan's enthusiasm is infectious and comes across on every page. The recipes are vibrant and I really like the fact that nearly every recipe is pictured so you can see what you're aiming for. Another real bonus is the section at the back which helps you to organise your time ahead of events like, entertaining friends etc. It makes the whole operation so feasible and means that cooking healthy food from scratch can slot into your everyday life instead of becoming a chore. This book will certainly become my bible in the kitchen and I would highly recommend it.
Bias disclosure, I am 80% plant-based / vegan and 100% vegetarian.
The author is a “meghanatarian” and while she touts the benefits of a plantiful diet, she’s against “labels”, and proclaims health is personal.
Basically, if you are an ethical vegan / vegetarian, be aware ... the introduction will shame you and say “labels are for tin cans”, and then there are recipes that call for 4 eggs or honey with no substitutes, not to mention frequent suggestions to “make it protein-powered” (and replace the plant-based protein with meats like chicken, ground beef, etc).
So then you will be thoroughly confused when she says things like “the choices we make when it comes to health also affect those around us and those around the world, too.” Or “gravy rocks, especially when it’s free from the juice seeping from the questionable nether-regions of an animal’s rump-side” ... statements that imply that what we eat is an ethical choice?!
In the end, it feels like a bit of a marketing scam in which she uses all of the buzz words to make the recipes adaptable to ANY diet (but no diet at all ... hence UNdiet) and her book marketable to EVERYONE.
I am in love with this cookbook! Not only are her recipes realistic, but they are mostly vegetarian AND when they have soy, gluten, or other food groups that some of us cannot have, Meghan gives options for substitutes. I am dying to try her raw key lime pie!
This is not JUST a cookbook, it's a guide for your life!!
I’ve been waiting for the release of Meghan’s cookbook since she first announced she was writing it. Meghan’s first book was amazing and she has outdone herself with her first official cookbook. This is not JUST a cookbook, this is a guide for your life. Not only will you find the most amazing healing and healthy recipes with beautiful vibrant colorful pictures, but you will learn how to live a healthy, vibrant and happy life. What makes this cookbook so special to me, is I have finally found a cookbook that follows my own food philosophy. It’s an added bonus that it reads like a book with content that has blown me away, and had me reading it from cover to cover.
This cookbook will empower you to take your health into your own hands. I can’t wait to make every recipe in this book. The balance of recipes in this book is amazing, and each and ever recipe makes me want to get into the kitchen!!
The recipes:
Drinks Breakfast Dips, Crackers & Spreads Soups Salads and Veggie Sides Main Dishes Condiments, dressings and special wonders of the undiet world Desserts.
But wait, as if that wasn’t enough…
Beauty care recipes (YES, she included what you put on your skin, because it matters too) Undiet entertaining
There is also a chapter on how to live an undiet life while traveling. I travel a lot, and this section made me so happy to read.
The last chapter, Undiet for life is probably one of the most important parts of the entire book. Some of the topics in this section are setting goals, morning routine and how to tackle your sleep hygiene.
My favorite recipe section is probably the beauty care recipes. This is what sets this cookbook apart from the rest. As an added bonus you get a green smoothie formula and sprouting guide.
Meghan has a magical way of weaving words together to tell stories that inspire you to go out and live the best version of yourself. It is easy to tell that every picture and recipe was a true labor of love to share with the world. The recipes are mouth-watering and I can sincerely vouch that the Mushroom-Vegetable Sorta Dumplings and the Rawmazing Key Lime Pie will be on the regular rotation in our home! Amazing goodness!
Meghan’s recipes are easy to follow and full of plants. Don’t let this scare you away if you are an omnivore—there are often suggestions on how to change up the recipes to include sustainable meat options and are also suggestions to make a recipe grain-or soy-free. There is also a chapter on making your own condiments—which are incredibly easy and delicious! No need to settle for store-bought spices and condiments when you can make some that are even more delicious!
What I love about this cookbook is that it is so much more than recipes—it is informational and encouraging. Meghan tells her story of healing through diet in the first several pages of the book and encourages you every step of the way to join her on a journey to health. She inserts humor often and shares her experiences in a way that make you want to go over to her house and have tea (or maybe a Kombucha Margarita!) in order to hear more! She is the ultimate cheerleader for a vibrant healthy life!
I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in bettering their overall health (Meghan even includes a chapter with recipes for UnDiet Beauty Care!) I promise that by holding this book in your hands you will feel the warmth and joy radiating straight from it and you will be inspired to take a step to better health for yourself!
I love the creativity and energy with which Meghan helps people improve their lives. She healed her own health problems (Crohn's Disease), with dietary and lifestyle modifications, and has been free of symptoms ever since.
After graduating from nutrition school, Meghan built her business, giving cooking classes while posting blogs and fun videos online. Her crowning achievement is her own online school, The Academy of Culinary Nutrition, which is a fantastic training ground for a whole food, plant strong diet.
Meghan's new book is chock-full of awesome recipes that are packed with nutrition to help you look and feel your very best. There are even a few formulas for personal care, such as deodorant and tooth whitener!
I love all the colorful photographs and extra information as well. The recipes are drool-worthy and not too complicated to prepare. I have my eye on the UnShepherd's Pie and Veggie Chow Mania!
The recipes are vegan (although Meghan, disliking labels would never say that), but there are options for both plant and Paleo people.
If you want to eat better, but really don't know how to prepare delicious, whole foods, this book is a great place to start!
This book is amazing and a great compliment to Meghan's first book, Undiet. Like Undiet, The Undiet Cookbook goes beyond beautiful and tasty recipes. Meghan gives you helpful tips and information to help you along your own health journey. The recipes are fun, delicious, and will get you in the kitchen more often than not! When I came across Meghan and all the good she is spreading in the nutrition world, I knew she was legit. She is so knowledgeable, kind, authentic, and down to earth. Just as she was able to heal herself through healing meals, Meghan is on a mission to help others reach optimal health through nutrition. This cookbook has 130 gluten and dairy free recipes that are nourishing, but that are also really fun to create. So if your new to cooking or it's a part of your daily routine, this cookbook is for everyone! From drinks, condiments, snacks, and the main course, you will be making more from scratch than you ever thought you would and the best part? You'll have a blast in the kitchen!
I can't recommend this book enough. I want everyone to have it!
The UnDiet cookbook is a beautiful book packed full of amazing information that will transform your life if you let it.
Think you can't cook? The book provides advice to banish those thoughts. The range of recipes is wonderful, the recipes themselves simple to execute and with enticing names.
So much more than a cookbook, The UnDiet cookbook includes health tips, travel tips and recipes for DIY skincare.
The UnDiet Cookbook would make a great coffee table book, even for non-cooks. This is one book that one could adequately judge by the cover. The vibrant colours, the fonts, the style- all easy on the eyes, well put-together, creative and uplifting.
Get a copy, but only in paperback. The Kindle version won't have the same wow factor.
Meghan Telpner is in a category unto herself. She is the most cheerful, vibrant, and authentic person I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, and it comes through in her book. She truly practices what she preaches. Her recipes are easy to follow (which is huge because I’m not the best in the kitchen by any means), delicious, and have plenty of options to best fit your eating style. You’ll gain a lot of nutrition wisdom from Meghan’s book, but she’ll also make you laugh.
As a Certified Holistic Health Coach and Nutritionist Meghan’s books are always my top go-tos for healthy, easy, delicious recipes. And I’m always sharing and recommending her and them to my clients.
With a quick click you can have the tastiest resource of information at your fingertips and in your kitchen guiding you to best health from the biggest cheerleader for your health, Meghan Telpner! Her recipes and guidance will have your belly happy and your lips smiling while your body says, “Thank you for so much goodness!” Meghan provides the why behind the goodness, but if you are someone who reads the last chapter to find out how the story ends, you can skip to the recipes and everything ends happily ever after☺ Buy this book (and her first book!) and you will have happy dreams . . . in chocolate chip pancake form . . . and more!
I was lucky enough to get an advanced peek at the gallery for Meghan's new book and am so impressed with how thorough and beautiful it is. I've already made her kimchi sushi and breakfast parfait and both have been really delicious as well as simple to put together. I know this is a cookbook that I'll come back to again and again!
This book is amazing! The photos are fantastic, the recipes are amazing, and all of the tips and tricks are interesting. So far, every recipe that I have tried out of here has been delicious. I can't wait to try a few more.
