The irresistible illustrated diary of one very special London dog--the perfect gift book for dog lovers of all stripes (and spots!)

Hello. My name is Plum and I'm a whoosell--a whippet mixed with Jack Russell and poodle. I especially like swimming, leaping, and croissants, and my favorite fragrance is fox poop. I live with Emma, an illustrator, and Rupert in London.

Over the last year, I've been keeping a diary. Emma helped with the pictures, but the words are all mine.

Since 2012 Emma Chichester Clark has been delighting followers with her blog Plumdog , which records the adventures, discoveries, wry observations, and social engagements of her dog, Plum. Now Plum's best pages are collected in this beautiful little storybook volume, which will delight anyone who has ever loved a dog.

I really loved this book. The cover is so beautiful, I found myself giving it little hugs, as I do all of my books :)

The illustrations are so sweet. I love how the author wrote the book to where it looks like someone is writing in a journal in pencil. But Plum says it's her blog, yes she writes a blog, or so she says in the book :D

Plum's mom is named Emma and she writes books. Plum has all kinds of friends in the book and she always spends a lot of time with her sister Liffey.

There are also many family members in the book and it's so funny when Plum refers to them in dog years! For instance they go to see Grandpa and Plum says he is 588 years old in dog years :) I thought that was so cute.

The book also has some things in the book that kids and people could learn about dogs, I thought that was a great addition.

I am a dog lover so this book was wonderful to me and I would recommend it to anyone or their children who loves dogs as well.

A charming book of whoofy anecdotes, comprising a year in the life of Plumdog, Emma Chichester Clark's raggle-taggle and much-loved dog. Her illustrations, accompanied by tenderly observant writings are often superb. Herewith a few examples.

A special treat for me were her full page, more detailed paintings...

But.....

I wish the book had been half or a third of the size that it was. I started off thinking "Wow, I have got to buy this as a birthday present for every dog animal lover I know, but by the end I was a bit bored. Some parts of the book made me roar with laughter, but for a lot of it I was just cruising.

As someone who loves receiving arty cards, I kept thinking what wonderful cards some of the drawings would have made. That is really how I would have liked to see them. As delicious single morsels to be relished individually. Instead the cascade of pix and writing was just a bit too much for me. I felt an editor with a harsher pen would have been an improvement.

That said, Ms Chichester Clark is a funny lady, with a very observant eye. She is also a clever and talented artist, who really captures her beloved Plumdog's foibles. This for me fulfils my idea of the perfect book to borrow from the library. I wouldn't want to have it myself, but I am glad to have read it.

I really enjoy the design of the book, the illustrations & even the story. However there wasn't an overall point to the story other than showing snippets from Plum's life. And I must say that dog leads a pretty fantastic life.

The thing about anthropomorphic animal books is that I'm always afraid of it being cringey or twee. This graphic novel by a British children's author and illustrator hits all the right notes, though: charming, sweet, and just adorable, with the right kind of wit and humour. Plum is just a delight and the artwork is so beautiful; I wanted to linger over the pages. A lovely comfort read.

I really loved the concept and as a dog owner myself- it really made me laugh! Emma really captures the idiosyncracies of dog life.
I didn't think the couple of instances of bad language were necessary though. It annoyed me- why bother, when the rest of it is so nice and child-friendly? But that would be my only criticism. As a cosy cuddle-up-with-a-hot-chocolate kind of book, it was excellent.

Menceritakan tentang plum si anjing whoosell (whippet mixed with Jack Russell and poodle).

*ps. Plum lucu bgt & bikin gemes, kadang baik & kadang nakal juga🤣

A great dog and gorgeous illustrations, what's not to love! Def's for dog lovers, it's ambles along through Plum's year and is one of those lovely reads you can just flick through and enjoy. Will recommend for teens to need a pick up and something gentle and not full of fantasy and dystopia and feelings!! Dogs rule

An adorable graphic novel in diary form for Plum, the author’s dog. Funny insights into dog thinking and the illustrations are wonderful. A feel-good read for dark times.

Adorable, witty, funny, and sweet! Plumdog has won my heart. She is a fitting main character for my first completed book of 2018: quirky, uplifting, yet realistic with all of her canine foibles. Five full stars! I look forward to the other books in the series.

When I first saw the cover I was drawn to this book, but I was even more amazed when it arrived in the mail. It is beautifully bound with a headband and signatures, something that is not often found these days. The trim on the inside pages match the cover. This is a beautifully crafted book. Unfortunately this means I probably wouldn't share it with kids, because I think it's too beautiful, but this is a perfectly good read for adults, too.

Clark's illustrations are beautiful. Her writing is fascinating, and I love the perspective of a diary/blog from a dog. I find myself laughing and crying along with little Plum, as she details a year of her life with Emma, her owner. (I believe the book is semi-autobiographical.) It's adorable how Plum converts all of her people's ages into dog years. For example, one grandpa is 633 years old.

Several parts made me really think about how dogs must feel when humans make big decisions without thinking how the dog will feel. Sometimes I wonder how closely related young kids' and dogs' brains actually are, and the emotions present in each of their lives. For example, Plum's entry about the sad story she knows about a dog that died, "One night he found a box of chocolates all wrapped up, under the Christmas tree and he ate them all and he died, because chocolate is poisonous to dogs." I'm not sure if it was the late night that did it, or if it was because I felt connected to this dog as if she were my own dog/best-friend, but I definitely felt passionately sad for Plum when she talks about stories like this one.

Emma Chichester Clark is an illustrator and the author of several picture books. She also has a Plumdog Blog that's quite adorable. You can find it here: http://www.emmachichesterclark.co.uk/... . In fact, her whole website is beautiful, and you should check it out.

The Good

Immediately when I unboxed the graphic novel Plumdog I was amazed by the design of it. Looking at it made me very excited to jump right into reading the story. The art intrigued my curiosity to read it immediately and all I have to say is the best part of this book was the unboxing and looking at the artwork.

The Bad

Although the artistry of this graphic novel was visually appealing it did not live up to the excitement that I felt when I opened the box and saw it for the first time. The story did not engage me with the execution. Neither did it keep my attention as I read each page. I believe that this novel fell short of making the story cute and fun. Although I was not overly taken by this book I would suggest that as a reader only you can be your own judge of character.

This is an illustrated diary narrated by Plumdog, Emma's dog. Plum is adorable, as are her adventures. She loves swimming and rolling in awful things, as well as her many canine companions. I ended up giving a copy of this to my mother-in-law because it is so damn cute. I hadn't read any of Emma Clark's Blue Kangaroo books previously, but because her art is so cute, I am going to have to do so now!

Originaalis oleks see kindlasti vaimustavalt tore viietärniraamat, kuid eestikeelses versioonis on kahjuks tõlge masendav, peaaegu et nutule sundiv, sestap jäävad igasugused tärnid siia ka märkimata.
Loodan mõnes poes kohtuda originaaliga (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...) ja tegelikult oleks põnev näiteks ka saksakeelsele väljaandele pilk peale visata.

This book is about a puppy named Plum and her adventures throughout one year. My face the whole time was basically 😍 and I kept saying aloud, alone in the apartment, "AWWWW!" Plus the illustrations are beautiful. So yeah. Go read it, it's absolutely adorable.
