Opposites attract in this small town omegaverse monster romance when Morgan Foxglove discovers the grumpy werewolf contracted to be her bodyguard is also her fated mate.
The family curse was supposed to just be a story. But after returning to her quaint home town for her grandmother’s funeral, Morgan discovers that not only is the curse real—her inheritance has been signed over to an alphahole werewolf in exchange for his protection.
Sylvan is bound to be Morgan’s bodyguard by a contract no amount of magic can unravel. It’s too bad he cannot stand the helpless witch. Her spells are useless. She whines about the fur he leaves around the house every time he shifts. She’s constantly running into things and injuring herself. The little witch is bound to drive him wild.
But now, Morgan and Sylvan have no choice but to spend nine months in the same gothic manor together to complete the terms of the deal. Nine months of protection, nine months of being knotted together by fate. To make matters worse, the longer they live together, they discover a problem more concerning than the danger lurking around town or their ridiculous arrangement.
The grumpy werewolf and wicked witch just might love each other.

Unfortunately the only reason I got through this book was because I held out so much hope that it would get better. Every Clio Evans book I’ve read I have enjoyed, and was really hoping this would be the same. The characters were fine, the omegaverse aspect was alright, and if the smut had been a little bit more spread out it would’ve been good too. What really killed this book for me though was the pacing. I wasn’t really a fan of all the time jumps, had we gotten just a couple more scenes of inbetween each full moon this book easily could’ve been 3 stars. Instead, what we got was one mention of the plot at the beginning of the book and then it got completely ignored for the mating on the full moons and then shoved back into our face and resolved within like 10 pages. Honestly if the whole curse plot had been forgotten and it just had been a book where Morgan’s crazed grandma bound her to the werewolf for 9 months, and it had been just about Morgan and Silvan falling in love with eachother - the book would’ve been great. It just wasn’t fun to read and by 70% I was skimming majority of it and skipping the smut altogether. Normally I wouldn’t complain over too much smut, but this was excessive and made the secondary plot of the curse feel incredibly rushed and forced. I’m giving this book 2 stars because I do think if the book had just focused on Morgan and Silvan and completely ignored the curse plot line, I probably would’ve really enjoyed it.
This is completely my own opinion. Thank you to The Smuthood for an ARC.
I got to Beta read this one and wow I loved it so much. Everything about Morgan and Sylvan call to me. They hate each other so much so the banter is top notch. The spice is SPICING and the story is awesome with delicious twists and turns. Can’t wait for you all to sink your claws into this one.
I really enjoyed Moon Bite! It was a fairly quick and very enjoyable read. This was a particularly fun take on the forced proximity trope, which is one of my favorites!
Morgan and Sylvan had such great banter and the pacing of their relationship made a lot of sense given their pasts.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a good omegaverse with werewolves and witches.
Thank you to Smuthood and Clio Evans for providing me with an arc.
I already loved Clio Evans and everything she writes so when I learned she was writing an omegaverse shifter book I knew i had to get my hands on it. Omegaverse is literally my favorite sub genre of romance and I always love when authors I already loved from previous works write one. This was a fantastic opposites attract fated mates omegaverse set in a small town where the grumpy werewolf is forced to be the bodyguard to our fmc.
Morgan Foxglove grew up knowing that her family was cursed or at least believed that to be true but she never thought it would apply to her due to how little magic she had. But when she returns home for her grandmother’s funeral, she discovers that the curse is real and her inheritance has been signed over to an alpha werewolf in exchange for his protection. Sylvan is bound to Morgan for 9 months by a magical contract no one can undo. Sadly he can’t stand the omega witch who can’t seem to stop being clumsy. Bound together for nine months they start to discover that not everything is what it seems and maybe they might just like each other after all.
This was absolutely everything I wanted it to be. It is spicy as hell but also the romance is cute between Morgan and Sylvan. It is forced proximity and they are pushed together by fate but their friendship slowly develops also. I overall highly recommend this one if you like omegaverse or maybe want to experiment with it.
“Bite me,” she moans. She doesn’t need to ask for that more than once. I grunt as I clamp my dull teeth on her shoulder and bite down. ∘•········ʚ🐺ɞ ········•∘

ARC Review: Paranormal, shifters, werewolves, witches - say less! 😂 You will always get me with these types of books & I thoroughly enjoyed this one.
My favorite parts of the book were all the things I think most of us enjoy - everything omegaverse, curses, dark evil shadow creatures, banter, forced proximity, spice, “enemies-to-lovers”, & fated mates.
The main two reasons I knocked it down one star is one - I didn’t love the time jumps throughout the story. I would have liked there to have been more detail included throughout the months of Morgan & Sylvan being stuck together in the mansion. This ties into the second reason - the ending. I don’t feel as if it was rushed per se, but again, I would have liked there to have been more detail included as to how everything unfolded and in the months we didn’t get to see on page.
Overall, it was an entertaining read & I’ll be looking forward to reading the second book once it’s available.
Thank you to the author & The Smuthood for the early read!
This book made me so feral!😫 I seriously couldn’t put it down and I hated every second that I wasn’t reading it. This is Omegaverse done right! Honestly, if you’re getting more into Omegaverse, I think this great to read!
The banter is this is so freaking good. I was laughing throughout this book. The arguing between the two was so real! I love how Morgan never backed down or spared feelings. She gave Sylvan a piece of her mind and didn’t care how it care across.
Sylvan was so grumpy, even I was mentally yelling at him!🤣 but who doesn’t love a grumpy man. He is very OTT possessive and protective. I loved that about him. He has his own way of protecting others, butttttt he is very thorough.
The spice is everything! It’s filled with so much heat that it will leave you aching in places you would want to be touched. If you love knotting, breeding, bdsm, dom/sub dynamics and primal chasing, then you will love this!
*I got this as an arc, and I’m voluntarily leaving a review.*
This book felt like living inside a gothic paranormal fever dream in the best way possible.
A cursed inheritance. A chaotic witch. A grumpy werewolf bodyguard. And nine months trapped together in a manor full of secrets.
Morgan and Sylvan were absolute opposites from the start. She’s messy, emotional, and constantly finding new ways to accidentally injure herself. He’s cold, overprotective, growly, and convinced she’s going to drive him insane. Naturally, the tension between them was EVERYTHING.
The slow burn mixed with the fated mate bond worked so well because neither of them wanted to admit what was happening. But the more time they spent together, the softer Sylvan became, and I was completely gone for him.
This was cozy paranormal romance mixed with danger, curses, magic, found family vibes, and a romance that turns feral in the best way.
I was chosen to receive an ARC of this book, and this is my honest review:
The positive: Nicely queer-normative and kink-positive. I’m sure this will appeal to a lot of people, and that plenty of people will love it.
The rest (my honest thoughts which are strictly my own opinion): Unfortunately this book just wasn’t really for me, I’m sorry. By about 1/8 of the way in, I was already checked out, and skimmed through the rest. I didn’t connect with the characters, and in truth everything just missed the mark for me, I’m sorry.
Thank you for the ARC and the opportunity to provide an honest review in exchange. This review is entirely my own opinion.
*~ eARC ~* This was my introduction to Clio Evans and they had me hooked immediately. A witch and a werewolf? Yes, please. I’ve read a lot of omegaverse and books with shifters but this was my first “monster” romance I guess you could say. And lemme tell you, it didn’t disappoint. I loved how much Morgan and Sylvan hated each other 😂 Their banter had me cracking up. The book was fast paced and packed with spice.
If you’re looking for the following tropes, this one is for you: - Primal play 😏 - light BDSM - Witch omega x werewolf alpha 🌙 - Grumpy x grumpy - Fated mates
Thank you so much to the author Clio and Samantha at the The Smuthood for my ARC!
Gosh, how I missed Clio’s writing! It’s been a minute since I’ve read one, but monster romance from Clio will always be my favorite. This one was no exception. How can I not like it when it’s omegaverse, paranormal, werewolf, witch, AAND grumpy x grumpy?! The storyline for this was amazing, I didn’t want to stop reading. The suspense at the end and just the mystery kept me wanting to come back to my kindle to read. This world was definitely interesting and I can’t wait to see if we get more!
Sylvan and Morgan were perfect for each other and the progression of their relationship was so good! The sentient house? Awesome touch too!
This was a perfect Omegaverse! I loved the twist on witches, daimons, and werewolves and that this book had mystery and suspense!
Sylvan is such a hot, broody werewolf and Morgan is such a sassy witch. I really loved the pacing of this book - focusing on the full moons when Alphas go into ruts and Omegas go into heats. Sylvan and Morgan may be bound by Morgan's late grandmother by magic so Sylvan can protect Morgan - but that doesn't stop the pull they have to each other outside that bond. But Morgan definitely questions whether or not that's the case and Sylvan refuses to accept that Morgan might be his mate for fear of putting her in danger. There's so much more that connects Morgan and Sylvan and when Morgan is taken, secrets unravel and and Morgan and Sylvan realize that nothing will stop either of them from being together moving forward.
I was immediately hooked and the tension between the MMC and FMC was off the charts and really leaned in to the enemies to lovers trope and I was so here for it. I can't wait to see what Clio gifts us with next! Clio Evans is quickly becoming an automatic read for me.
Thank you to The Smuthood for the opportunity to read an ARC of Moon Bite!
In the beginning, the book was gripping. I can tell it's a good storyline. I'm enjoying it. Till I read 60-70% of shmex and arguing alllll the time. I get it its love language or something. Was fun at the beginning to read banter, but after got bit annoyed. Same thing with heat and his runt..... and it shouldn't be a main plot. Only the last 20% in the book were all action started.
I see the potential, the storyline, less annoying argument, and a bit more plot with a bit less of shmex. The book would be perfect. 3.4*
This is my idea of a great omegaverse read. The characters are the best. The plot is entertaining and the suspense kept me on the edge of my seat with anticipation. The spicy scenes were plentiful and so hot it almost melted my Kindle. The BDSM element added to the image of the heat and ruts. Both of the main characters had tragedies in their pasts that shaped who they are now and how they feel about magic and mates. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Quiero a mi rey lobo.
This book was 80% spice and 20% plot. I’m all for a good spicy book but when the spice scenes are the same thing over and over again it gets to be very boring and repetitive and honestly took me out of the story soo much.
I wish we saw more of the plot and character interaction and overall development, especially with their forced proximity to one another.
Moon Bite had absolutely everything that I look for in a paranormal romance: werewolves, witches, sentient houses, heats/knotting, hate to love banter and a little bit of mystery. I absolutely loved these characters – the simultaneous arguing while also being clearly attracted to one another was so fun to read, and I loved their grumpy/grumpy dynamic. This is definitely a must read for paranormal romance readers!

I had such a fun time with Moon Bite by Clio Evans. This was exactly the kind of spicy, tension-filled werewolf omegaverse romance I was hoping for, and Clio fully commits to the vibe from start to finish. We’ve got an alpha werewolf bodyguard, an omega witch, forced proximity inside a sentient gothic manor, full moon heat/rut cycles, and two deeply stubborn people trapped together for months while trying very hard not to give into their attraction. Naturally, it goes terribly for them in the best possible way.
One of my favorite parts of this book was the grumpy/grumpy dynamic. You don’t see it nearly enough, and Morgan gives Sylvan just as much attitude as he gives her. Their constant verbal sparring was genuinely entertaining, especially because Sylvan slowly realizes he absolutely loves the fact that she isn’t intimidated by him at all, and frankly gets hard by all her barbed words. Underneath all the antagonism and pheromone-fueled tension, there’s a really strong caretaking aspect to their relationship that I loved. Sylvan especially ended up being such a compelling love interest for me. He’s isolated, emotionally guarded, and carrying years of self-imposed exile on his shoulders, but once he realizes Morgan is his mate, he becomes intensely attentive and devoted to her in a way that really worked for me. Even when they’re angry at each other, he’s still cooking for her, checking on her, taking care of her, and quietly making her wellbeing his priority.
For all their fighting, grumpiness, and resistance, there was something really sweet about watching Morgan and Sylvan slowly become each other’s safe place. Beneath all the heat cycle chaos, verbal sparring, and stubbornness was two deeply isolated people learning they didn’t have to carry everything alone anymore. Morgan spent so much of her life unloved and unsupported, while Sylvan had intentionally cut himself off from everyone out of fear that caring about someone would only put them in danger. So watching them slowly let each other in, choosing each other again and again despite all their fears and initial resistance, ended up being one of the most satisfying parts of the romance for me. Their antagonism was fun, but what really made the relationship work was the growing sense of comfort, safety, understanding, and devotion underneath it all. By the end, it genuinely felt like they had become each other’s person.
I also really loved how Clio handled Morgan as a plus-size character. Her body is never treated like a problem to overcome or a source of insecurity that needs to be fixed. She’s confident in herself, Sylvan is completely obsessed with her exactly as she is, and the language used when he describes her always feels soft, loving, and deeply appreciative without ever becoming fetishizing. Clio consistently does such a wonderful job writing body positive, sex positive, and kink positive romances, and it’s one of the reasons I always enjoy her books so much. There’s such an ease to the inclusivity in her writing that makes it feel natural rather than performative.
And honestly, the spice more than delivered. If you love monster fucking, you get tons of werewolf sex and it's downright delightfully depraved. Sylvan being an older virgin who intentionally waited because he wanted his first time to be with his mate weirdly ended up being incredibly romantic to me. I loved how eager he was to learn Morgan’s preferences, how attentive he was to her wants and fantasies, and how openly enthusiastic he was about making sure she felt desired and cared for. Clio always writes sex scenes that feel fun, open, and celebratory, and this book was no exception.
My main criticism is honestly that I think the book accidentally introduced several really interesting emotional and paranormal plot threads that could have been explored a little more deeply. The romance itself absolutely worked for me, but I do think the story would have been elevated even further if we’d gotten a few more softer moments between Morgan and Sylvan outside of the heat/rut cycles and antagonistic banter. Because the story jumps primarily from full moon to full moon, sometimes it felt like we skipped over quieter bonding moments that would have helped balance the biological attraction with more visible emotional intimacy. I completely understood why Morgan fell for Sylvan, but at times I didn’t fully feel the emotional reciprocity from her side as strongly as I felt it from his.
I also found myself really intrigued by the larger subplot involving the omega kidnappings, the corrupt paranormal council, Morgan’s family history, the dangerous forbidden magic, and the reveal involving her grandfather. There are genuinely fascinating ideas buried in this story, especially surrounding the memory manipulation twist and the revelation that Morgan’s grandmother may have been trying to protect her all along. But because so much of the middle focused almost entirely on the romance progression, some of those larger lore elements felt underdeveloped by the time the book reached its climax. I kept wanting just a little more explanation regarding the grandfather’s motivations, the magic system, the grandmother’s choices, and how everything connected together. The story clearly feels like it’s setting up a larger world and future books, and I’m very interested to see where the series goes from here. I just think a few of those threads could have used a little more page time in this installment.
Overall though, I had an absolute blast with the romance, adored the werewolf mate dynamics, and thought Sylvan was incredibly lovable once his softer side started coming through. If you love spicy paranormal romance with forced proximity, grumpy/grumpy tension, caretaking alpha energy, fated mates, and a healthy dose of omegaverse chaos, this one is absolutely worth picking up.
TW - physical and mental abuse (from a grandparent, non sexual), parental death, murder, gun violence, kidnapping, knife violence, torture, death of a grandparent (on page ceremony where body is burned), other familial death (mentioned), vomit, blood, broken bones (sc), panic attack, graphic violence, magical torture, gore, infidelity (parent, past, mentioned), alcohol consumption, arson
Tropes - dark, paranormal, shifter, omegaverse (kind of?), forced proximity, FMC x bodyguard, who did this to you?, possessive, jealous, fated mates
Representation - queer rep
Sylvan (MMC) and Morgan (FMC) find themselves in a sticky situation when they are bound together for 9 months in a house that rarely lets them leave and Sylvan acting as a bodyguard to Morgan. It's not clear to them or us what Morgan needs protection from but, it's clear that her grandmother who set this all up knew more than what she let on while she was alive.
The MCs biggest issue is having to spend every full moon over the next 9 months together when everyone goes into rut / heat at that time. They try (kind of, lol) to fight the pull they feel to each other but, when the person you 'hate' is your fated mate, there is only so much you can do.
This was fun and, ofc, spicy, as is everything Clio writes. There was a push x pull between the characters and it was sometimes frustrating for them to take 1 step forward and 2 steps back. I do wish that the plot that was much more evident in the last 10-15% was surfaced through more of the story because I feel like it would have rounded it out just a little bit more.
I am very particular about what I class as omegaverse (an omegaverse snob, if you will) and I am really on the fence about whether I'd call this omegaverse? I'm leaning more towards no because, if you remove that aspect from this story, nothing changes. They're mates, he's a shifter wolf with a knot who goes into rut and she experiences heats; both of which occur on the full moon. Idk, it didn't feel omegaverse-y enough for me.
Scale: ⭐️ - would've DNF'ed / continued out of spite ⭐️⭐️ - shit, but whatever ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - meh, could've been better ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - lit 👅 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - loved it, inject this shit into my veins 🤪
Moon Bite delivers a seriously spicy omegaverse romance packed with tension, banter, and paranormal intrigue. The story follows Morgan Foxglove as she reluctantly returns to Hex Ridge after the death of her grandmother, the powerful leader of the local coven. After enduring years of mistreatment at her hands because of her omega status and lack of magical ability, Morgan had no emotional attachment to her grandmother and no intention of staying any longer than necessary to settle the estate. Her plan is simple - bury her grandmother, sell the house, and return to her life in Boston. However, her grandmother’s final act leaves Morgan not only magically bound to the house, for the next nine months but also to alpha werewolf bodyguard Sylvan, someone she neither trusts nor particularly likes, supposedly for her ‘protection.’ Considering he’s just as much in the dark as she is about this new development, he isn’t any happier about it than she is.
The grumpy/grumpy enemies-to-lovers dynamic between Morgan and Sylvan was one of the strongest elements of the story. Their relationship is filled with sharp, entertaining banter and building tension creating friction between them and making their interactions feel messy, complicated, and extremely entertaining. Neither is willing to give an inch with both characters stubbornly resisting each other at every turn. It genuinely feels like hate at first sight, and their connection develops in a frustrating but believable pattern of one step forward and two steps back. But while the chemistry between them is undeniably intense, leading to several very steamy and kinky encounters with the omegaverse elements adding an extra layer of heat and urgency, I struggled to sense any emotional connection and, at times, it felt as though their attraction was driven more by forced proximity and the biological pull of the heat cycle and the full moon rather than any deeper personal feelings being involved.
The paranormal world itself was intriguing, introducing witches, werewolves, daimons, and a supernatural hierarchy built around alphas, betas, and omegas. However, the world-building felt underdeveloped, with much of the lore condensed into a brief explanation rather than covered in any depth. To an extent the mystery surrounding Morgan and the forces targeting her is tied closely to this back story history, I would have appreciated more detail and development about the history and mythology. The setting of Hex Ridge also had plenty of potential, though the story plays out largely within the confines of the house and I would have loved more exploration of the town itself. As it was, there were only occasional glimpses of the local store and few secondary characters appearing until later in the book. Despite that, this book succeeds in laying the groundwork for what feels like the beginning of a larger series. Morgan’s story reaches a satisfying conclusion, but there are still many unanswered questions surrounding Sylvan, his past, and the fate of his brother, leaving enough intrigue to make the possibility of future books appealing.
I'd like to start by thanking the author and The Smuthood for providing me with an advanced copy of this book to read. All thoughts and opinions shared are my own!
Look I ate this book up because it was so good! The characters just worked and the way their tension and push and pull continued for most of the book and didn't just disappear made them feel realistic. Morgan was a sassy witch with boat loads of emotional damage and hurt that she made part of who she was. She was so badass and strong even if others tried to put her down and make her feel less than, and I love a woman who owns who she is. Sylvan also had so much emotional damage that you could fill a lake with it. He was unhappy with his situation, but he still tried his hardest to fulfill his role and do what needed to be done even though he pretended to be grump and mad about it.
They were just the perfect grumpy x grumpy pairing, and their relationship is what made this book because it felt real and fun, and their arguments and tension added to the narrative. their chemistry and banter along with the hatred they had for each other and the situation at points was so much fun and was also explosive. It definitely helped to build the sexual tension so nicely! WHICH LET ME SAY- THE SPICE WAS IMMACULATE. There was quite a bit and it was so hot, because knotting is always hot, but their sex normally and then their monster sex was so good to read and could make a girl hot and bothered!!
The plot was so interesting, and it definitely fell to the wayside for the smut at points, which I am not complaining about at all! It was mysterious and I felt enraged learning about what was happening and wanting to know how everyone was going to fix things. We also have some open ended moments that lend perfectly to more books because I need to know about Zach, and about the council, and how deep corruption runs in this world because I think it's deep!
I had an absolute blast and am obsessed with the world and need the next book right now.

I am a huge fan of Omegaverse and this shifter paranormal take was so fun! I devoured this book in a day! I have really enjoyed Clips other why choose books and couldn’t wait to read this. I loved the witches, daimons and werewolves that are also designated as Alphas, Omegas, and Betas. Such a fun take! This is a shifter PNR where the MMC does shift into his werewolf form. The FMC is a sassy, curvy omegas witch named Morgan Foxglove (the last Foxglove witch). She grew up feeling unloved and honestly from her memories suffered a lot of abuse physically and mentally. She was lead to believe she was a weak omegas and had no true magical powers. She’s shunned by her coven and she has no love for them either. The MMC Sylvan is an Alpha werewolf who’s been a bodyguard for Morgan’s grandmother until her passing. Now they’re bound together after reading the grandmothers will which included a tricky spell cast on both Morgan and Sylvan. Needless to say neither of them are happy about this turn of events. They’re stuck in the Foxglove manor for 9 months until the spell is released. They do NOT like each other and I loved the back and forth banter between them for the first part of the book! Morgan is so sassy and I loved her! Sylvan is every bit the broody, possessive alpha! I’d let him boss me around any day.
Now the interesting thing I liked was that the alphas and omegas experience ruts/heats EVERY full moon! They try to avoid the draw between them. I love some hate sm€x! They are fated mates but have not accepted the bond for different reasons. There is a push and pull between them for most of the book.
The spice was top tier!! I loved that there were some firsts between them 👀🔥 plenty of k!nky fun! The plot also focuses on the disappearing omegas and the “darkness” that is out to get Morgan. I felt I was engaged through the book between the mystery, past histories, betrayal (not by the MCs) and the chemistry and tension with the MCs. Their connection and love was beautiful and I felt so bad for them when they were separated. I will always love the fated bands trope and this was done well! I really enjoyed the plot twists toward the end! I felt the pacing was perfect. I would love an epilogue with them in the future. Hoping to see them again in Zach’s book! If you enjoy paranormal romance, Omegaverse, heats/knots and a little mystery then you’ll likely enjoy this book!
A very fun and spicy omegaverse paranormal romance, with a cursed witch and a grumpy werewolf!
It’s insta dislike between our MCs as they lock eyes at the funeral of the FMCs grandmother, and their animosity only grows as they end up cursed to spend 9 months together in the FMCs sentient childhood home. The fear of the family curse, caused her grandmother to force a magical contract between her granddaughter and the werewolf bodyguard as her last act of magic. As the MCs live together they’re forced to rely on each other in all circumstances and while their bickering never stops, they maybe can learn to trust someone other than themselves.
The MCs feel so real, their reactions to circumstances are often knee jerk, and with the multiple POV we get to see how much they’re both stuck in their heads, which makes sense entirely for them. Both of our MCs have devastating pasts, and their traumas made them entirely self reliant. They don’t trust easily, but our FMC still seem to find the sunshine where she can, while our MMC is sticking to his grumpy and lone wolf ways. Being cursed into this situation of living together and him protecting her for 9 months definitely provides quite a few opportunities for character growth.
Along with the character growth we also get relationship growth. It is, in a way, really slow growth with lots of setbacks and denial, yet not at all slow in a physical sense. There is a lot of resistance initially, especially from the MMC, with being forced together physically by their heat/rut. This builds such great tension until it snaps and things get deliciously spicy, escalating with every full moon!
With this being a romance first, we definitely focus on the relationship between the MCs most, but there is also a fun mystery to explore. The FMCs family curse, said to go after every witch in the family bloodline with great magic, our FMC doesn’t think it’ll have anything to do with her, even with her being the last of her line. Yet, after having had an unsettling experience on the first full moon of being back in this little town, she may have to start believing that there might be something to it. Our MMC bodyguard will have to earn his keep as they work together to uncover what this curse is and how to hopefully break it.
This was such a fun read, the characters played so well off each other, their bickering made me laugh, while their pasts broke my heart. The mystery plot had me thoroughly curious if my theories were correct and wondering if I might’ve missed anything. I didn’t even get a chance to mention the absolutely wonderful sentient house the MCs get to reside in!
I had such a great time in this new universe the author has built, and I can’t wait to be invited back in the next book!
Thank you to the author and The Smuthood for providing me with an ARC!
I was able to read this book ahead of its release date thanks to Clio Evan and The Smuthood.
Spice level 4
I would recommend this to someone who enjoys Omegaverse, witches and a little mystery. Lots of spice!
This was one of those books that had me hooked from the dedication. I love shifter romance and anytime a curvy witch is paired up with a shifter I'm all over it. There was a good balance of Omegaverse world and Witchy world. The background of the main characters, specially Sylvan, start to be revealed in small bite size morsels of information throughout the story. I liked that it came out organically as the story started to unfold. Starting off with Morgan we get introduced to her where she stands in her community and her grandmother. We find out why Morgan doesn't want to be there longer than she needs to be. Then we meet Sylvan and get a quick explanation of his reason for being there. Since they both didn't want to be in their current situation and had no choice in the matter thanks to Morgan's grandma, it made for a lot of grumpy moments, arguments and tension between Morgan and Sylvan. Which I 100% enjoyed.
While the story is heavy on spice it did not lack a good plot. There was this air of lore and mystery throughout the whole book that had me sucked in. Starting off with the Foxglove curse and their connection to Hex Ridge. Sylvan being a lone wolf and what happened to his pack. Plus his added abilities that kept getting sprinkled in. The plot was woven in well with the romance and the countdown to the end of their arrangement. Side characters introduced throughout the story all had a purpose. Some are more developed than others but even that has a reason. Just when I was starting to forget about the danger lurking, it came back and reminded you it's not all full moons and knotting going on in this story. I really didn't see the twist coming. Which doesn't usually happen for me. Given that this is an omegaverse world, the amount of spice and instant sexual attraction fit right in. Morgan and Sylvan fight their natural attraction for as long as they can and the push and pull from both of them is understandable. However, once Sylvan was all in, I knew I was going to fall for that shifter. Also, the use of tongue in this book needs to be noted. I get wolf shifter romance is all about knots but I did love reading Sylvan's tongue game. I also liked that Morgan was the more experienced one of the two too and that Sylvan took it upon himself to educate himself on Morgan’s preferences. Again, there is a lot of spice in this book.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. Both the plot and the spice were done very well. It was funny, spicy and entertaining all at the same time. Then again, it's just what I have come to expect when I read something written by Clio Evans.
I ended up liking this SO much more than I expected to. Honestly, the main reason I initially applied fo rthis ARC was because I've really enjoyed Clio Evans' contemporary romances, but I went into this one a little hesitant just because I'd never really ventured into shifter omegaverse before. I like omegaverse in general, but shifter romances always felt like they might be a little too much for me personally. Apparently I was wrong because this was SUCH a good time.
I genuinely think this book may have converted me into wanting to read more shifter romances because I had so much fun with this world and these characters. I'm also really hoping this ends up becoming some sort of interconnected series because there's definitely more in this universe that i'd love to see explored!
What really carried this book for me was the relationship between Morgan and Sylvan. They were very much grumpy/grumpy, which I personally love so much more than grumpy/sunshine. The banter between them was incredible, but even more than that, the yearning and tension absolutely worked for me.
I also really appreciated how unique this world felt compared to other omegaverse books I've read. Most omegaverse romances rely on a lot of the same structures and dynamics, but I loved that this combined multiple "species" while still maintaining hte alpha/beta/omega dynamics. It made the whole world feel fresh in a way that really stood out to me.
My biggest issue with the book was probably the balance between the romance and the larger mystery plot. I actually found the pacing itself very fast and engaging, and I was never bored while reading, but the plot progression felt slightly uneven to me. The mystery elements were originally introduced early on, but then mostly pushed to the background for a large portion of the story outside of the occasional mentions of research, only for the final chapters to suddenly become extremely plot heavy all at once. The reveals themselves were interesting, but I just wish it had all been woven throughout the story a bit more consistently.
Overall, I landed at a 4.5 star rating simply because I had such a fun time with it and it completely exceeded my expectations for what I thought I'd enjoy from a shifter omegaverse romance. I'd especially recommend this to readers who already enjoy Clio Evans' writing style, because the emotional depth, character work, and relationship development that I love in her contemporary romances are all still very present here. And if you already enjoy shifter romances or omegaverse in general, I definitely think this is worth checking out.
I need to know how I've missed Clio Evans on my radar before today, because she's fantastic and I am hooked!!! As soon as I opened to the first page, honestly speaking, it was one of the best opening paragraphs that not only caught my attention, but made me chuckle, made me intrigued, and down right made me want to know everything I possibly could about Morgan Foxmore and why she was such a bad witch.
"I've never been a good witch. Morally speaking, I am good, of course. Or I try to be most of the time. But no amount of goodness has ever been able to change the fact that despite being a Foxmore, I'm a bad witch. Not good. Not wicked. Just bad."
The story begins at a funeral for Morgan Foxglove's grandmother and not only do we find out that Morgan is labeled a bad witch because she's not superior at magic like her family line is, she's an omega, and a tad rebellious to top off everything on the naughty list as far as what's not acceptable. I couldn't have loved her more. 😍 She was not about to let life's pitfalls get her down and she was only staying in town long enough to get her inheritance and then she was leaving. Unfortunately, her grandmother's last wishes didn't quite make that possible.
Enter the mysterious lone wolf and bodyguard, Slyvan, who was originally hired to guard Morgan's grandmother, but upon the reading of will Slyvan is magically forced into a bond with Morgan. That went over like a lead balloon for so many reasons 🤣, but to spell it out under the terms of the contract, they both had to stay bound to one another for nine months for Morgan to inherit anything, also, if she incured any harm, Slyvan would feel it. That made it very interesting. For an alpha wolf who has an overly protective nature, even when he's growly and grumpy, it made it extremely hard on him when she sustained so much as a paper cut and Morgan is super stubborn, so their fisticuffs were intensely charged...all...the...time.🥵
Alongside their intense back and forth, on will they or won't they and WOW!! how hot is alpha werewolf and omega witch, who knew?!?!🥵🤣 There is a mystery to solve because hellooooo, Slyvan is a bodyguard that was originally hired to protect Morgan's grandmother. That means something nefarious is happening around town even while these two are fighting their feelings while getting drunk on each other's pheromones.🔥If they can pull away from each other long enough to figure out what's happening they may have a fighting chance. Maybe...
