Fuzz McFlops is one of the most famous rabbit-writers in the land, but ever since his classmates teased him about his lopsided ears at school he's lead a lonely life, writing sad stories such as The Withered Carrot. Now he's started receiving some scandalous, outrageous and rather eye-catching letters from one of his fans. Who is she? And why does Fuzz's funny, too-short ear start twitching every time he replies to her shocking notes?
As their correspondence continues, Fuzz McFlops begins to wonder where this tale is heading, and whether he might not discover a happy ending for once, after all...

Eu simplesmente amei a proposta!

Fuzz McFlops is a famous rabbit with an ear deficiency, one of his ears is shorter than the other, which has made him an outsider his entire life. His books with titles like 'The Withered Carrot' and 'Unhappy Easter' are very popular and he's receiving a lot of fan mail. Fuzz is living a solitary life and he never opens them. Until one day a beautiful lavender envelope catches his eye. He opens the letter and sees a critique of his work, it's too negative and the writer of the letter has even rewritten some of his poems, so he can see how wonderful they are with a positive outcome. Fuzz replies to the letter and that's the beginning of a special kind of correspondence.

Fuzz McFlops is a fantastic book. What I liked most about it is the wonderful sense of humor of the author. Eva Furnari has written an intelligent and fun story. I liked the cheerful and colorful drawings and they're a perfect match for the story. The author uses different forms of written communication and I like that. The book has a few difficult words with easy to understand explanations. It's a great way to learn something. The story itself is highly entertaining. I instantly loved Fuzz McFlops, he's hilarious. Being an outsider is never much fun and I think Eva Furnari has handled this difficult topic very well. I highly recommend this book to both children and grown ups who haven't lost their inner child.

Fuzz McFlops is a famous poet. He's a recluse, a loner, has a deformed ear, an anxiety condition and never reads his fan mail. Until one day, an especially vibrant letter catches his eye and he opens it. The female writer doesn't like the depressing ending of a poem of his and suggests a happy ending for it. He throws it in the garbage. She continues to write him and they become friends with her letters influencing a bit. Enough to make a difference but too much to change who he is, in fact, she likes who he is. This is a beautiful story, a love story, of accepting who you are, being yourself and there is a true love possible for everyone. But one must step outside their comfort zone just a little bit to meet that person; you can't accomplish anything by doing nothing at all. Really such a sweet story!

Secondly, the book uses many different types of literature: fables, letters, fairytales, music, poetry, recipes, postcards, post scripts, etc. At the back of the book is a glossary of sorts listing every device used and explaining what it is and its purpose.

Fuzz McFlops is a really sweet love story about a misfit rabbit poet (Fuzz) and a reader (Charlotte) who feels the need to point out his stories aren’t that cheerful. Her honesty encourages Fuzz to tell her how he feels and helps him grow in confidence. Suddenly his ears that aren’t the same length don’t seem to matter too much. The moral you find in kids books is there but it doesn’t beat you over the head which I thought was a good thing.

A slight downside is this is a translation of a Brazilian story and so every now and then something does feel as if it has been lost in translation – the poems Fuzz writes don’t rhythm for example and a few sentences feel clunky and were hard to read out loud. I am not sure my daughter noticed these though. She just liked the tale and the drawings, which I thought were great – bright, colourful and not babyish as at all – which means, overall this was liked a lot my mother and daughter and one I would recommend.

After a childhood of being bullied for having one ear shorter than the other, bunny writer Fuzz McFlops isolates himself in his burrow to write pessimistic poems and stories about unhappy protagonists with unhappy endings. One day, he receives a letter from a fan named Charlotte who takes it upon herself to change his sad stories into happy ones. The first letter offends Fuzz and causes his earspasmitis, an ear twitching condition brought on by anxiety, to flare up. As more correspondence arrives from Charlotte, however, Fuzz decides to write her back and soon finds himself looking at things more optimistically. Perhaps he will get the happy ending he has long denied the characters in his own stories.

This whimsical tale is written and illustrated by Italian-Brazilian writer Eva Furnari whose surrealist illustrations are inspired by the way children draw, free of artistic molds and full of humor. Through her use of bright colors and unconventional lines, her drawings capture the emotion of her cast of quirky characters. Fuzz McFlops also has pages that are styled like letters written on vibrant stationery, old user manuals, prescription letters, telegrams, music sheets, and framed portraits, which adds a nice touch to the story. The first 37 pages of Fuzz McFlops are where the actual story takes place, while the remaining 19 pages serve as a dictionary for some of the advanced words used throughout the book such as autobiography, fable, and patient information. These definitions are accompanied by characters mentioned within the story, such as the tortoise and the hare, and characters from the universe that were not included within the story, such as Charlotte and Fuzz’s relatives. The character illustrations and the small stories they act out next to the definitions help illustrate the meaning of the word. This story is suitable for ages 5 to 8 years old and is sure to delight older audiences as well.

"A cenoura murcha"

I’m slowly working on a couple of ideas for children’s books which hopefully will utilise both text, pictures and “found documents” to tell the story. So this felt like the perfect book to see how that can be done. As stories go it’s pretty minor, but the art and images are really beautiful and the extended glossary is a fantastic idea. A lovely little book and exactly what I needed it to be for inspiration

Resolvi reler pra relembrar a história.
Escrita rápida, bonita e divertida. Além das ilustrações serem simplesmente lindas!

Thank you to Allen and Unwin for providing me a review copy!

I was met, not as I expected by the story of a sardonic bunny who had a difficult childhood and wrote morose and dour poems, which had made him famous, but by the story of a rabbit who had had a difficult childhood and got a fan letter saying, in short, "I am a huge fan of your work. But I think it's better if this poem is changed to this. Isn't it?". Que romance!
For me, it was que disappointment. And I'm not quite sure what message it was supposed to convey.

Such a cute little book for children about a famous poet/writer rabbit who is different because he has a shorter ear than the other, who is a bit of a recluse. And one day he receives a letter from a fan who sees he's sad and wants to brighten up his day with positivity.

The author is Italian and illustrated the book too with gorgeous illustrations. Beautiful book.

Gosh my daughter and I laughed reading this book. It is EXACTLY my sense of humour - slightly odd, quirky and very funny. And even better, it's a love story. Between rabbits! Strange, and odd-ball rabbits. I could read this a hundred times.
