Confess had a good balance of romance and mystery. A determined detective from Nashville follows a serial killer to a small town where he finds more than evidence of a crime. He finds attraction to a woman that he can't deny, however this woman is closer to his case than he ever expected. This story has a theme of choices and every choice the characters make come with consequences that they have to face. Yet, love does influence their choices and adds complexity to an already complicated mystery.
First off, I want to say I loved the male MC, Mitch Kilpatrick. He was sexy, charming, witty, dominant and carries internal baggage from his past which has made him the man he is now. The female MC, Lacy, is a good match for Mitch. She holds her ground and is an independent female. The banter between Mitch and Lacy was natural and entertaining. I enjoyed the chemistry between them. I particularly liked that Mitch was dominant in the bedroom and took charge, I however expected more out of the sex scenes because of his dominant personality. I was a bit disappointed with the short and mild sex scenes after all the built up anticipation beforehand. I did like that Lacy was not quick to submit and made Mitch work for it.
The mystery side of the story was intriguing and kept me interested. I wanted to keep reading to find out what was going to happen. The characters and their pasts tied into each other very well. I did feel that the events toward the end happened very quickly as did the relationship between Lacy and Mitch. The end came a bit too quickly. It left me wanting to know more about one of the characters and their motives. The very end of the story again brought me back to the same feeling I had in the beginning and left me satisfied. I absolutely would read more of Reagan Phillips mystery romance books.
Mitch and Lacy's characters had me from the beginning. They're both strong-willed, torn by their own respective pasts, and -- like in any well-written romance -- struggle to accept that they "get" each other, need each other, and (for lack of a less sappy word) complete each other.
But this is far from a sappy love story...it's gritty, steamy, and gut-wrenching. You want to scream at Mitch and Lacy for holding back, and at the same time you wonder how things will settle once everything is revealed.
The secrets themselves unfold slowly, and there are who-dunnit type surprises up until the end. I love how the breadcrumbs and mis-directions pulled me in, giving me those OMG moments when I finally realized what was up.
Mitch's alpha-male character didn't disappoint, neither did his thoughts and dialogue. So many heroes dwell too much on the I'm-not-good-enough-will-she-love-me-back thoughts, and it emasculates them. Phillips struck a good balance with his character. Lacy and Mitch's personality really seemed like a true end-result of all that had happened to them, and never in a way that got annoying. Lacy's vulnerability, attitude, cynicism, and even her long-buried hope, all made her a relatable character. In the end, you can't help rooting for them both.
Confess will definitely satisfy anyone who enjoys suspense/thrillers along with a steamy romance. Reagan Phillips blended both together in a very satisfying way, and I can't wait for the next book.

This was the first time I have read anything of Ms Phillips and I really enjoyed Confess! Nashville Homicide Detective Mitch Kilpatrick travels to Rebel Rapids in search of a serial killer, haunted by the murder of his cousin Sadie when they were kids and running out of time before his boss finds out he defied orders to stay off the new case of recent murders he meets local wild child Lacy Andrews, who is a bartender at the local bar and who happens to be the Police Chief only daughter. Lacy is spunky and loves to defy dear old dad, but she is also keeping a secret that can ruin the life of her father. Confess was a great mystery that had me guessing till the end. The sparks between Mitch and Lacy were scorching hot but at times I just wanted to slap them both upside the head. I will definitely be looking for more from this author. I received a copy of this book from Candid Book Reviews in exchange for my honest Review.
I found this to be a very confusing book but did enjoy the characters. The characters had a good amount of depth to them and they had a lot of life to them with the baggage that comes with having lived. I thought that this book was nicely written and there were very few errors. However I did think it was extremely long winded at times and the story took too long to tell. I wasn’t sure if it was supposed to be a basic love story or if it was a mystery/thriller type book. I thought that it spent way too much time around the love affair between Mitch and Lacy and did not have the urgency that I have come expect from most romance books. That didn’t come in until the end and it was quite brief. In all it was a good read but not what I expected.
I enjoyed the first half of the book which involved much lust and sex. The second half involved a lot of emotional drama and angst which felt too contrived and unnecessary at times. The piecing together of the murderer could have been a bit smoother as well.
I found numerous spelling and grammatical errors in the book which at times pulled me out of the story and had me reading to find others. I'll forward a copy of the ones I found to the author.
If you like hot guys who wear a badge and carry handcuffs, Confess is the book for you. If you like spunky heroines who need a firm hand while getting themselves into and out of trouble, this is the book you want to read. Reagan Phillips has written a wildly entertaining book that I highly recommend to all who enjoy a steamy romance. I can't wait for her next book.
I’m conflicted by this book. Is it a romance, or a murder mystery? Because I don’t think the content knew which it was tryna be.
The plot - this is a… murder mystery romance novel, with police officer X daughter of the police chief. Small town, suspense, forced proximity and forbidden romance. Slight age gap (early 20’s and late 20’s). Smut was like a 2.5/5 on the spice scale. It is a HEA in a series of interconnected standalones. It rated 3 stars for the murder mystery aspect. And had it been a sole mystery novel, we would be gunning for a 5 star read. But the two main characters are incapable of having a direct conversation, incapable of actually communicating and being mature. Instead they are toxic and to-and-fro with each other… so much so that my head spun. Within 4 pages they’d hated each other and wanted to fuck each other 6 times. That’s too many. Once is good tension. Two is angsty tension goodness. Any more and you’re taking the piss. This book would be 150 pages MAXIMUM if all the bullshit was cut out. This book would’ve been better as a sole murder mystery novel.
The characters - I’ve said all I needed to above. The main characters are Mitch and Lacy, and neither act anywhere near their ages. They act like 13 year olds in their first relationship. And NONE of the side characters were likeable either.
I liked all the characters with in this novel, the plot however left me feeling confused and needed answers... If she knew Wry was dead why did she feel the need to hide by using a different name and protect herself. She escaped from him, and she though he was going to come find her and finish what he started. So many things wrong with the plot, including simple editing mistakes. But if it was cleaned up and edited i have no doubt that it would be a 5* novel.
Lacy and Mitch were so entwined, even from the very beginning. Both held secrets that enmeshed their lives from an early age. The tension, suspense, and raw need these two created held me spellbound to the very end. I actually found myself at an emotional crossroads as their story unfolded. This is a definite must read!
Far too many grammatical errors, spelling mistakes & punctuation issues in this read. A real shame when the plot, characters & flow of the book are so freaking awesome.
The mystery and the suspenseful storyline kept me intrigued and loved the main characters. Couldn't put the book down since I needed to know who was the deranged person behind the killings.
Confess: Blue Line Brotherhood Book 1 By Reagan Philips
Detective Mitch Kilpatrik is on the hunt for a serial killer, a cold case that made his life miserable ever since that traumatic day when the monster killed her cousin. The guilt Mitch feels is unbearable, that’s why he goes back to the little town when everything started. He needs a new lead to find him, but he would never have guessed it would be the beautiful girl, the Chief’s daughter, Lacy Andrews, that is going to be the missing piece to solve this puzzle.
Lacy is a strong woman, or at least she tries to be one but it’s hard for her since she went through something terrible as a child. Thanks to her father’s connections no one knows her secret, but it is slowly eating her alive. She can’t trust anyone and definitely not the cocky detective, Mitch.
The attraction between them is instant and no matter how hard they try to fight it the tsunami of emotions brings them to their knees. But they are still holding on to their secrets. Will they let themselves be destroyed by the past or will they overcome their trust issues? Can their broken hearts connect and find love?
This book was a great read. Sexy, suspenseful and heartbreaking all at once. Well, the male character is a cop, so it was obvious that I’m gonna read this. And I wasn’t disappointed. The story was engaging from the beginning, and I kept turning page after page. My heart goes to Lacy, she has been through a great deal of trauma, and I can’t blame her for trying to keep it a secret.
There are so many twists and turns in this story, it kept me guessing until the very end. This was my first book from Reagen Philips but definitely not the last.
The book contains sexual component, so be aware of that before buying it.

Confess is a genre that I rarely read and I must admit that Ms.Phillips has changed my mind. The storyline is very mysterious, amazing, with wicked turns, twists suspenseful, thrilling and exciting. The characters are sarcastic, desirable, witty, strong, loving, clever and independent. The dialogue is ardent sensual, fascinating, sexy, bold, dramatic and fiery. There will be times when you think you know but you don't. I was caught up in the story from start to finish. Surprisingly I really enjoyed this sexy thrilling mystery!

He finding small town life more interesting then he would have thought. But there's a string of murders happening and small town secrets are wearing on him. Lacy is the sheriff's daughter who tends bar she is a strong woman. She stands her ground but she has a lot of secrets she needs to purge herself but she can and do get through itl There are times you will be upset with Lacy and Mitch times you will feel for them. I love this story the way Ms. Phillips pulls you into the story with characters and you feel as they do. I'm so happy this a series.
I recommend this book1 of this series and I can't wait for the next book. There isn't a cliffhanger you can read this book without reading another book.
How did I not see that coming? How? Oh my gosh!!!!! What a wicked twist! I loved this story start to finish. Hands down, one of the best sexy mysteries I've ever read!
Small town life is really interesting when there's a string of murders and more secrets than you can imagine. We're introduced to each character in a way that makes this story amazing. Mitch is a man who will have you dropping your panties, or boxers, as soon as he walks in the room and demands you to. He was alpha all the way and didn't disappoint. I loved Lacy for being a realistically strong woman. She has secrets, not pleasant ones, but she prevails through it all.
This story is steamy to the max with a good dose of mystery. There are times you will hurt for the characters and times you will want to scream at them for being stupid. This story unfolds with the relationship of Mitch and Lacy while giving clues about the mystery along the way, until the point it all builds up and unravels and you're left staring at the twist wondering how you didn't catch it the first time.
I highly recommend picking this book up if you love an alpha male Hero, a good mystery, and a wonderful romance. This is a standalone novel so don't worry about dreaded cliffhanger endings and buy this book now and thank me later.

Mitch is a sexy, dominant, Nashville detective going against orders. He is on the hunt for a serial killer that he has tracked for years. While investigating he meets Lacy. Lacy is a spunky, confident bartender and the police chief's only daughter.
Both are running from their memories and their personal demons. With a killer on the loose and so much is not as it seems who do you trust? Misunderstandings and hard truths are uncovered and decisions are made. Can they overcome the odds and love each other's beautiful imperfections?
This story had so many twists that you can't help but stay interested and engaged. The characters are real and believable. The fire and the passion, whew! My poor kindle melted into a puddle! I loved this story and was heart broken and heart racing right along with the characters. I had never read this author before but I will be reading more!

I don’t like writing a review that gives the story away and I try hard not to. The raw emotions that Mitch and Lacy showed was unbelievable. What they felt you felt right with them. There were several times when I wanted to hit Mitch for the way he acted and treated Lacy. And there were times that I wanted to hit them both for just being dumb. But the way the author had the twist and turn of the story was refreshing. The author had you thinking one thing and then something big would be revealed and you would start to second guess what you knew. I loved this book and if you are wanting to read about a hot romance with mystery/murder, then this is for you.
Reagan Phillips has brought us a wonderful story with a thriller novel with a twist of romance. We are introduce to a detective that is not giving up on a cold case that brings back haunted memories for Mitch. When he returns back to a small town Mitch meets a bartender that does not back down. Lacy does not understand what Mitch is doing in the small town, but he is getting under her skin. At the end you could not help but to cheer for both Mitch and Lacy. The way that their characters hidden secrets and personality has made the story hands down a must read..
OVERALL IMPRESSION OF THE BOOK I highly recommend this book the start of a wonderful series and I can't wait for the next book. * I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review for Candid Book Reviews*
A friend of mine said I had to read this and I did. I normally do not read books when I am working on one, but this one caught my eye and captivated my heart. I absolutely adored the characters and could envision the entire story as it unfolded in my head as a movie. It is a book I would highly recommend you read. I look forward to more books from this author.
