Feathers of Fading Magic
By Tessa Silver
A Quillhaven Magical Cozy Mystery # 13

📖 💗As a long-time resident of Quillhaven who has read every book in this series, this installment held a very special place in my heart. The author gave me a pre-ARC copy to read, because of my specific background in avian care and rescue, allowing me to give a "first eyes" look at the rescue dynamics and bird behaviors before it went to the regular ARC team. While Tessa Silver always writes her cozy mysteries so they can be enjoyed as standalones, this unique experience made the book incredibly special to me.

🦜In this story, we are introduced to some fantastic new faces. There's Meredith, a non-magical veterinary assistant who comes to town to run the new animal refuge. She’s used to things working in a strictly scientific matter, but she quickly has to adapt to Quillhaven's unique brand of magic while caring for the animals up for adoption.

✨️We also meet Sylvie, who has never felt accepted due to her inner magic. While living in an abandoned cabin in the forest and foraging for food, Sylvie discovers a family of phoenixes showing signs of illness. Led to the refuge by a helpful cardinal, Sylvie's path crosses with Meredith's just as Finn, a local park ranger, brings in an ill owl. Meredith notices the exact same concerning health problems in both the owl and the phoenixes. The changes happening in the forest and town are deeply alarming, and while Meredith can gather the scientific facts, she doesn't yet know how to treat a magical ailment.

🪄The mystery of this book is the captivating journey to finding those solutions. The plot delivers exactly what Quillhaven fans love most: a classic "magic gone wrong" puzzle, but the standout element for me was the inclusion of the animal refuge. I was absolutely delighted by how the avian elements were handled—the bird behaviors and rescue dynamics add a wonderful layer of authenticity and heart to the story.
Tessa Silver continues to prove why this series is an absolute staple on cozy readers bookshelfs. Book 13 is an absolute must-read!

🌟 It's my privilege to give this book a 5/5 rating❣️

Meredith Lee is new to the magical town of Quillhaven and isn't quite sure what to make of it. She's a veterinarian assistant and runs the local animal refuge where she prefers order and logic. Then a young woman shows up carrying a mother Phoenix and her three fledglings. The Phoenix and a number of other birds are all showing similar symptoms that are baffling to Meredith. She soon discovers that science has no answers yet magic is also being vague. Annie Hart, local witch and bookstore owner, along with her familiars, Leo and Luna, are working on the magical side of things. The group which includes Finn Flaherty, a local park ranger, are determined to solve the mystery. There are whispers of old spellsand some missing grimoire pages as the town's deepest magic surfaces and Meredith discovers she's bei g pulled into something than her work with Kindred Creatures Refuge. Magic in Quillhaven isn't just a curiosity, it's the heartbeat of the town, and if the Phoenix dies so does the town's magic. Can the group repair things before it's too late?

This has been a fascinating series and this book's a prime example of why. The book was well-written with likable, well-developed characters and a plot that was fast-paced. I was drawn into this captivating story and kept hooked from beginning to end. The book was intriguing with a mystery full of twists and turns. The small town feel is great and there's a true sense of community while the friendships are deep and there's a blossoming sweet romance. This was one of my favorite books in the series due to the animals and animal refuge. The book is a definite must-read in a can't-miss series. Tessa Silver is a wonderful author and storyteller who pens magical cozy mysteries, keeping the series fresh as it grows. I highly recommend both book and series.

Feathers of Fading Magic is a story which is hard to put down. It is a story of discovery and finding your path. Meredith comes to Quillhaven as a veterniarian assistant and run the animal refuge. In her world things can be followed in a scientific matter, she will be awakened to the magic of the town. Sylvie comes to Quillhaven because she does not feel accepted, at her home. Sylvie does not know about the magic that is within her. Annie comes to learn about her legacy decended through her family.
Meredith is managing the animal refuge, feeding and caring for the amimals up for adoption. Finn, a park ranger, brings in an owl that is ill. Meredith takes all the facts concerning his health but does not know how at this point, to treat it. Sylvie is living in an abandoned cabin in the forest. She is foraging for food when she comes across a family of phoenix's who are showing signs of illness. She is lead to the refuge by a cardinal. Meredith notices the same health problems in the birds as in the owl. Changes are happening in the forest and Quillhaven to are very conerning.
The journey to finding the solutions, Meredith discovering the magic and everyone finding their destiny, is so enjoyable and needing a tissie or two, is fascinating. I received this for an honest review and it so well worth the journey. A must read.

Quillhaven has always been magical.

Likeable characters, engaging stories that makes you wish the book wouldn't end.

With non - magical and magical town folks living in harmony, they welcome new comers into their magical town with open arms.

In this story, non-magical, Meredith Lee is new to Quillhaven and she runs the new Quillhaven Kindred Creatures Refuge.

She has three months before she decides to stay or go back to Boston.

Another new comer, reluctantly magical, Sylvie has been hiding in the woods near Starfall Lake and away from her father in Iowa, who didn't believe in magic and didn't want to acknowledge his daughter's gift.

With an Owl, a Phoenix and her fledglings are brought into the Refuge, Meredith tried to use her medical skills to help their fading feathers. To no avail.

Annie, Finn, Meredith and Sylvie work together to figure out what was causing the feathers to fade, the birds to become quiet.

Meredith also had dogs, cats, kittens and a bird in the Refuge that needed adopted out.

Through out the story, two cats and a dog were adopted out by the wonderful people of Quillhaven.

These books in this series, have a magical feel with a heartwarming story.

Tessa Silver knows how to write in a way that leaves you wanting more and excited for the next book.

Highly recommend it.

In this book we are introduced to the Quillhaven Kindred Creatures Refuge. Meredith Lee is working there, she met Dr Andrew Moore in Boston & he offered her the job of caring for the various creatures that might arrive. Meredith is science oriented & doesn’t believe in magic, but, gradually she does as things evolve along the magical line. First a ranger brings in a Horned Owl who is looking very faded. Then, Sylvie, who has been trying to suppress her magic but ended up in Quillhaven when needed, gets lead by a red cardinal to a nest with a very faded phoenix with three chicks. She manages to get the babies packed carefully in her backpack and carries the mother in her arms, lead by the cardinal to the Refuge. There, Sylvie’s magic seems to help the chicks calm down. Meredith realises that Leo and Luna are saying things & Annie translates for her, but, one day, she understood immediately! Once again a lot of magic is happening and is urgently needed to right the wrong thing that is happening in the forest. A book I just had to finish before sleeping.

I really love this series and Quillhaven. It’s a friendly, magical town that welcomes everyone and has Leo and Luna the Siamese cats. I pretty much drop anything else I’m reading when I get one of these books.
Meredith has moved to town temporarily to run the Quillhaven animal refuge. She’s a vet assistant so has the training to help sick and/or injured animals. Things start to get interesting when Finn, the local park ranger brings in an sick owl with strange degradation on his feathers. Shortly after that, Sylvie, another newcomer, brings in a phoenix and her chicks with the same problem. No one has any idea what is wrong.
Annie Hart along with Leo and Luna start investigating.
This book has an interesting mysterious problem, great characters, humour, and more.
Even though you don’t have to read the books in order, it is great seeing the characters from previous books show up. To me that makes the book more enjoyable.
A quick, easy, fun read.

My First Fantasy Read—and I Loved It!

While I don't typically read fantasy, I found Feathers of Fading Magic to be a really charming and enjoyable read. The cozy atmosphere, lovable characters, and touch of magic made it easy to get swept into the story. Even though this is Book 13 in the Quillhaven Magical Cozy Mysteries series, I never felt completely lost and was able to enjoy the mystery and magical elements on their own.

What surprised me most was how invested I became in the characters. By the end of the book, I was curious about their histories and relationships, and now I want to go back and read some of the earlier books in the series to learn more about them.

I give this story 5 stars for its engaging storyline, memorable characters, enjoyable writing style, charming setting, and overall entertainment value. If you're looking for a light, cozy mystery with a magical twist, this is a delightful place to start.

Meredith has just moved to the town of Quillhaven to begin her work at the local animal shelter. Meredith thinks of herself as a scientist, liking data and logic. Quillhaven is a magical town, however, which has both magicals and nonmagicals living there. Despite her reluctance to believe in magic, being able to hear Leo and Luna (two great Siamese cat characters) and caring for an ailing Phoenix changes her mind.
The boundary that gives Quillhaven its magic is failing and it is up to Meredith and her new friends to fix the problem before the magic and magical creatures all fade away.
This is a fun magical cozy mystery with interesting characters, both human and animal. You can easily read this as a standalone.
Thanks to Tessa Silver for the chance to read this ARC.

On this most recent trip to Quillhaven, you meet the newest resident, Meredith, who runs the animal rescue, and Sylvia, a teen who has a fading Phoenix and her babies. It takes both witches and non-magical friends to solve the mystery of the fading animals. Along the way, while solving the medical mystery, you get to check back in with all the other Quillhaven residents you have met through the books. You get that same "going home to visit friends" feeling you have felt with previous books in the series. New characters are just as well rounded and the mystery is unique but definitely interesting. I highly recommend this latest Quillhaven mystery.

We have a new resident town named Meridith n who had worked with Dr. Moore in Boston. She will be running the animal rescue center. One day Sylvia brings in a fading Phoenix and her babies. She has no magic but is fast learning that her science and magic are not joining, so Meridith decides that she has to trust someone and that's when Annie, Leo, and Luna come into the rescue center to help. It is takin all of them magical and non-magical to figure out what is going on in the forest. That is where Finn comes in, he is the ranger and has noticed strange things going on in the forest. Read to see what happens. I enjoy Quillhaven and the characters.

The magic in Quillhaven is on every page of Feathers of Fading Magic. Meredith has come to Quillhaven to run the Animal Refuge Center, under Dr Moore. She knows nothing of magic, but is going to get a very quick lesson. When people keep bringing in animals that have conditions, she can't explain, she must open up to accept what is happening and help. I think there is a little magic in all of us, we just have to let it in. I do enjoy reading the Quillhaven stories.

Magic and mystery in one sitting. I received an advance reader copy and have chosen to review it. This was my first experience with Quillhaven and its quirky cast of characters but it will certainly not be my last. It was a fun afternoon romp through a magical town where magic and non-magic townsfolk bring their gifts to light. I smiled the whole time I read this one. Definitely going to revisit this one.

There’s a few new characters in Quillhaven. Meredith is a temporary employee of the new animal refuge. Meredith is analytical and a documenter. Sylvie has wandered her way and has hoping to find a home for her magic. And Finn the park ranger who knows something is wrong. And a mama phoenix with 3 babies. This is one of my favorites in a series I always enjoy. Don’t miss this one.

Wow. I am never disappointed in Quillhaven. Quillhaven has everything, and in this book, Finn, Sylvie, and Meridith are introduced to help in this mystery. I love Ember the Phoenix and Hadley the Owl. I also love the cardinal. The characters are so well-developed, and the books are always so well-written. Quillhaven is the place I want to retire to, or as close to Quillhaven as I can get.
