In a fairy tale, you always escape the monsters. Mine isn't one. I fell for two instead.
Kane had me trapped.
By day, I worked in an office. By night, I was chained to a stage. Every dollar I earned went straight to him, paying off a debt that was never mine. I thought this would consume my entire life. Then Dante came along. Dante had the means to save me from Kane — the kind of money and power that makes monsters disappear. But I refused to believe in fairy tales, so I lied to and stole from him instead. Despite what I’d done, Dante still offered to free me from my debt.
The longer I stay with Dante, though, the more certain I become: I was right. Fairy tales don’t exist. In a fairy tale, you always know who the monsters are, and you always escape them. Mine isn't one, but I won't let the monsters ruin who I am forever. Nobody gets to claim me. I’m Lyra Davine. I’m nobody’s angel.
Content Warning This book is a standalone, dark why-choose romance with a guaranteed MFM HEA.
However, before getting to the HEA, the heroine experiences some dark things, sometimes at the hands of the MMCs. The full list of content warnings is inside. Despite everything, she falls in love with both men, and maybe so will you.
First, I want to start with, how is this a debut novel?? Second, read the trigger content before going into this one, there are some things that will make you question if you should keep going... Obviously, I am unhinged and did.
Lily, I want to say I DESPISED Dante for the first half of the book but you did well on his redemption. I wanted to jump though my kindle and strangle Lyra myself for dealing with him. Then you have Kane and his slutty little smirk, holding her father's debt over her and making her pay. He is lucky he was the lesser of the two evils in this scenario or he would get some words too!
The twists and turns that this book had, really threw me for a loop and really had me questioning who to believe and what was going to happen. I loved the outcome, I mean who doesn't love a why choose, just sometimes you have to go through some mess to get there. I also loved Lyras's sister, Vesta, she was such a spitfire, and I hope we get her and Nate's story!
Thank you, Lily, for the eARC and allowing me to provide my honest review!
I was so excited to get the ARC of this book ! I was hooked from the beginning and loved all the twists I didn’t see coming ! At first I wasn’t sure how I felt about Dante but by then end I loved his character and Kane !
Lyra Devine is Nobody's Angel, but my GOD does she need a hug.
Nobody's Angel is a fast paced, emotional, and dark romance that made me thoroughly uncomfortable at times. It explores deep trauma, manipulation, love & control. Lily Stradil drops you right into Lyra's story, forcing you to question the choices she makes and the people she chooses to trust.
I knew going into this one that it was going to be dark, but I wasn't expecting to have so many conflicting feelings while reading it. I did struggle to understand Dante's obsession with Lyra, and vice versa. I think I needed more of a foundation between them: more conversations, more connection, and maybe a little less rushing. But as the story unfolded, I found that the confusion I felt was actually carefully placed by Stadil to make me question Lyra and her choices.
Kane was also questionable, but I did find his character easier to understand. His motivations felt more developed, and I appreciated that the story took more time revealing the different sides of him.
I have to say, Lily Stadil got me. I spent the first half of this book questioning what I was supposed to think, only to realize that was PART of the experience. I also appreciated the smaller details throughout. Stadil took the time to address things that could have easily become plot holes, which helped me stay immersed in her universe.
Nobody's Angel was a book that surprised me. I didn't expect the amount of reflection it would bring out while reading. I liked how my perspective was tested as the book progressed, and the characters really made me feel things. I think that is an incredible demonstration of Lily Stadil's storytelling ability.
Overall, this was a great read! If you are in the mood to read about deep emotional conflict, morally grey characters, and a truly twisted story about relationships then this one is for you!
An incredible Debut Novel, I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Lily Stadil.
Thank you for the Advanced Reader Copy and allowing me to provide my honest review!
This was a solid story that just didn’t quite hit the mark for me in all areas.
This had a very interesting premise and characters, it will definitely play with your emotions as both of the MMCs are morally questionable and imperfect in the first half of the book! The layered dynamics were intriguing and really worked for a dark mafia romance, I thought this was a big strength. The MMCs were also great, both dangerous but in different ways.
The plot was solid, there are tons of twists and turns that will keep you guessing, it feels high stakes which again really fits the genre.
Where this wasn’t quite as strong in my opinion was with the pacing and the spice. I noticed a lot of summarizing rather than playing things out on page for both. Like a convo would be summarized with what was said rather than seeing the actual conversation happen line by line. Scene-wise, some cuts would happen where you go from being in a car with the MCs to being in the house in the next line with little transition, this made the pace feel a bit rushed.
I also had the same issue with the spice, the scenes were very short, sometimes only 3 sentences, and I am a full chapter spice scene girl. I need explicit detail spelled out and dragged out, I just wanted way more here, especially for a Why Choose. I’m primarily reading for the spice, so when it feels rushed or glossed over it’s hard to keep my interest.
Overall, I think this was a good debut novel and there’s a lot of intrigue to the story, the execution just wasn’t quite a match for me personally. If you’re a reader who enjoys mafia romances more for the story than the spice though, I think you’d enjoy this!
Nobody's Angel by Lily Stadil ate me up and didn't let go. I devoured 279 pages in one night.
Lyra Davine is everything I want in an FMC — feral, fierce, trapped but never broken. Office worker by day, dancer by night, trying to pay off a debt that was never hers to carry. She lies, she steals, she survives. She refuses to be claimed, owned, or saved unless it's on her own terms.
And the men? Morally grey x2 and done SO well.
Kane — The monster who trapped her. Controls her debt, her money, her stage. Cold, calculating, terrifying.
Dante — The monster who wants to save her. Money, power, obsessed in the best way. He falls harder and offers freedom without a leash.
I loved that this never pretends to be a fairy tale. In a fairy tale, you always escape the monsters. This isn't one. The tension between who is actually the villain had me flipping pages so fast.
Tropes you'll love:
🖤 Morally Grey Men x 2 🖤 Debt Trap / Forced Proximity 🖤 Office Worker / Dancer FMC 🖤 Touch Her & Die 🖤 He Falls Harder 🖤 Dark Romance / Romantic Suspense 🖤 "Nobody Owns Me" Energy
Vibe: Dark • Smoky • Seductive • Dangerous • Moody
It's dark romance, so please check content warnings: financial control / debt bondage, adult dancing / sex work themes (implied), emotional manipulation, power imbalance, mentions of being trapped / chained.
If you love a damaged-but-dangerous love story where the girl saves herself — this is for you.
Thank you Lily for writing Lyra. I hope I get to read a lot more of your work.
I had so much fun reading this ARC, and I even had the opportunity to talk with the author about her book. She is incredibly kind and so passionate about her debut novel.
I thought the plot was really interesting, and I was never bored. I liked the push-and-pull dynamic between the characters, and there were times when you didn't know who you were rooting for. Some of the plot twists definitely got an emotional reaction out of me, whether it was anger or happiness. It was a very quick read, and I constantly wanted to keep turning the pages.
This book definitely stays true to its tropes: mafia romance, why choose, enemies to lovers, and found family.
My biggest note would be the pacing. At times, scenes felt a little rushed. For example, one sentence would have the characters in the car, and then suddenly they'd be in the bedroom of a place they'd never been before. I would have loved a few more details to help visualize the setting and make the transitions feel smoother.
There's also a section where the characters are in Italy, and I wish there had been more descriptions of the trip. It felt a little condensed, and I wanted to spend more time in that setting.
I also felt like this book was more plot-driven than spice-driven. Personally, I think it would have benefited from a few more spicy scenes, especially toward the end. The first few spicy scenes were fairly short, but by the middle and end of the book, they became much more detailed and aligned with what I'd expect from a dark romance.
Since I'm reviewing this as an ARC reader, I'm giving a little more detailed feedback than I normally would in a review. Overall, I would absolutely recommend this book. I think it's incredibly impressive for a debut novel, and I'm excited to see what this author writes next.
Nobody's Angel is a dark mafia, MFM, why choose romance that is steamy, tension packed and fast paced!
The story follows Lyra who has her daytime job and then her night time job - one she enjoys and the other is to pay off her parents debt as quickly as possible and get out from under Kane, the debt holder and monster of her life. Enter Dante, a powerful man of means barges into her life hoping to relieve her of the night life's claws. Little did she expect that she would be stuck between both her captors, each in their own sense as trust, betrayal and an entanglement between these morally grey rivals ends up with her fleeing her sister and home in hopes to stay off the radar. But she is merely a pawn in the world of these men, when she encounters another is when Dante and Kane join forces to bring her home and make the man who dare touch what's theirs pay. The ending offers a turn of events as Lyra steps into her power and claims her life back this time with Dante and Kane as her lovers!
Expect themes of control, choice and shared trauma between the characters. Packed with romantic tension, toxic behaviors/obsession, adversaries after the same girl, touch her and die and of course a why choose/MFM triangle that evolves from enemies to lovers! I appreciated the pacing of this book and the emotional connection to Lyra and her devotion to family and still wanting to be something for herself. Plenty of entertainment throughout the story to keep you interested and bounce between which love interest you like more! The structure and tone were great and the themes were vivid and immersive.
First, thank you so much to Lily Stadil for reaching out to me directly and trusting me with an ARC of Nobody's Angel. When she asked if I'd be interested in reading it, my answer was an immediate yes!
"In a fairy tale, you always escape the monsters. Mine isn't one. I fell for two instead."
This was such a fast, addictive read that I flew through it. Lyra's story pulled me in from the very first page, and I found myself rooting for her every step of the way.
Dante frustrated me more than once, and there were moments I genuinely couldn't stand him. While Kane the man I should've hated from page one for forcing Lyra to pay a debt that was never hers—somehow ended up becoming my favorite. If a book can make me fall for the man I thought I'd hate while questioning the man I thought I'd love, you know it's doing something right.
Lyra, Kane, and Dante definitely don't find each other in a fairy tale kind of way but through everything they found each other.
In the end, they became hers just as much as she became theirs.
If you love: 🖤 Why Choose (MFM) 🩶 Mafia Romance 🖤 Enemies to Lovers 🩶 Enemies to Allies MMCs 🖤 He falls first 🩶 Fast-paced Romance
then you'll definitely want to add Nobody's Angel to your TBR.
Thank you again, Lily, for trusting me with an ARC!
🪩Dark/ Mafia romance 🪩Why choose 🪩multi POV 🪩Enemies to allies 🌶️ 2.5 A debut that had me genuinely surprised this was a debut! What would you do to save your sister? 👀 Lyra is stripping at night to pay off a debt that landed in her lap, but she is SO much more than T&A. She has like this analysis job or some shit during the week hours, hella good with math. She’s smart, determined, and independent. Then we have Kane—the collector Lyra absolutely despises. Except… I could see those underlying feelings. 👀 “You’re the one thing in the world I’ll die still wanting” 😍 And Dante? Mysterious, intriguing, completely obsessed, and honestly… I had a love/hate relationship with that man. 😂 The two MMCs bring some enemies-to-allies energy, and their banter definitely kept things entertaining. There are some harder moments in this one, along with a decent plot twist and a girl-friendship vibe that I really enjoyed. Overall, this felt like a woman empowering, quick, fun read—perfect for picking up when you need something entertaining between series or thick books.
Thank you to the author for the advance copy of this book!l
Nobody's Angel by Lily Stadil has a lot of potential, but it fell a bit flat for me in execution. The absolute best part of the book is the male leads—I completely fell for both Kane and Dante, and their dynamic alone kept me turning the pages.
While the premise is good, Lyra’s character didn’t quite click for me and she could be a bit frustrating at times. The story also felt a little drawn out in certain chapters, and I found myself scanning pages to get back to the action rather than reading every word. It is still a decent dark romance with great male leads, but the pacing just didn’t completely match what I usually look for in this genre.
This is a debut author, so I had no idea what to expect. The book has great plot and it is a real page-turner. There's turns that you don't see coming and of course, The romance. Even though it seemed at some point that there won't be a single one..
The characters are unique and interesting but maybe individually left a little distant. Their chemistry is still scorching and the tension is palpable. I also loved the solution with the POVs, there are multiple, but not in the beginning.
As a bonus, we get to travel with the characters and many wonderful sights are described in the book in a very detailed way!
I would recommend this book to why-choose and romantic suspense readers. There is spice included 🌶🌶.
When Lily asked me to send her an ARC read of this book, it was the fastest yes I have ever said. This book has all the tropes I love: Enemies to lovers Toxic to devotion Mafia romance Slow burn Why choose This book had an incredible and strong FMC and brilliantly written MMGs that had you so invested in the book you couldn't put it down! The plot was brilliant! Every page chapter took me on an emotional rollercoaster! overall, this book was such an enjoyable read and it's an easy 5 stars from me. Favourite quote: "The brain has no power against the heart, and the heart is such a stupid decision maker"
so grateful the author reached out to send me this arc for an honest review!
this one is dark & the author makes that a point in her notes before the book starts, so definitely make sure to check your triggers before reading. i did find some parts hard to read, but i knew that going in. i enjoyed the fmc so much, she was independent, strong, & so smart which was refreshing. the pacing of this story was a bit rushed & definitely left me wanting more in general. loveddd the dynamic of the relationship by the end.
super quick, dark, smutty read. if that’s what you’re into, definitely check this one out once it releases!
4.75🌟 wowowowow this was sooo good! Firstly thank you lily for this arc🫶🏼and second I have not stopped thinking about this book since I’ve read it. I’ve read tonsss of why choose but this is a top for me. I was super duper invested and lily knows how to write to keep you on your toes. I cried soo much but also laughed. Our FMC was a baddie! Ugh I just loved her so much! Although, I wish she gave Dante a little more shit. I felt like she forgave tooo fast but it’s okay. She was still perfect to me. I was alsoo all the way team Kane. Gosh he was sooo dreamy but I did love Dante after a while tooo🤭. Guys pleaseee pick this up once this comes out.
I liked the book, I liked the concept, the plot. But just liked, not loved. I lacked a bit of depth and detail, some slow moments where you get to know the characters and their feelings and quirks.
I liked the idea of this girl and how she got into the position she got in. I loved the cuckqueen moment, and the hurt and would have loved to explore this more.
Of our three MCs, Kane was my favourite. He felt the most real to me. Dante and Lyra I had some trouble believing a 100%, it feels a little off to me.
A good but not very memorable book.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
At first, you'll probably be highly confused. Not with the story but how you're suppose to feel. Like do I hate this guy or do I like this guy? Then eventually you'll find your answer but probably still not be sure. This has multiple POVs, which honestly ugh, because I was trying to form an opinion and then....nevermind let me think on it more 🤦♂️. Before reading you'll know what to expect however you won't know how it gets there and that's honestly the best part. Happy Reading but absolutely check those triggers 😘
3.5 ⭐️ Our FMC wants to be saved from a bad situation but doesn’t believe in fairytales so she handles her sh!t herself. Unfortunately someone wants to save her, but they don’t end up being the white knight she hoped for and ends up being an even bigger nightmare. I actually really liked the premise of this story and the bones of it were really good. It felt like after the drama was wrapped up tho, the book kind of kept dragging on unnecessarily. I loved how it all came together but wish the ending had been different.
This book was so good! I LOVE dark romance and this book has a perfect mixture of dark romance and dark themes. I would definitely read the trigger warnings because there are some very dark moments in this book. Dante and Kane are from the same world but are two totally different men who I love their characters in different ways. Also a love triangle is the best kind of shape! The spice was also *chefs kiss*! This is one of my favorite reads of 2026!
This has amazing aspects and I liked the vibe of the book. I did want some more grovelling because things like that shouldn’t be forgiven quite so easily? And needed some more chasing by Kane. Lyra dancing and commanding the room while trying to make ends meet, paying off a debt that wasn’t hers to begin with. The spice was nice and it had a lot of potential, I just want more.
I enjoyed the characters in Nobody's Angel. I loved Lyra's strength and determination even in the midst of her insecurities. In addition, two male leads willing to burn the world down for you always make for a good read. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Thank you for providing me an EARC for a honest review! I loved the story line however, I needed more. I felt like the scenes were rushed and just summarized. I needed more banter. Overall, it was a good plot and I enjoyed getting to know Lyra, Dante, and Kane!
I'm not usually a romance reader, but the twists and turns in this book had me hooked. It felt like a thriller, which kept me engaged from start to finish.
Nobody's Angel was a fantastic example of a semi-dark why choose! I wish it was longer, just so I could get more of a taste of their dynamic, but I felt that the short and to the point of it all really made things feel the way they were meant to. It was fast paced, it was hot as hell, and I can't wait for more!
