Olivia is an exceptionally talented killer with a dark past and a questionable future. As the head executioner for the Supernatural Council of the eastern United States, she patrols her territory delivering justice and death without remorse.
Currently she is being stalked.
Pfft, someone or rather some supernatural didn’t take their meds if they thought they could hunt her. Let’s be honest, she is enjoying the challenge and loving the fact that she gets to slice and dice once she finds them. Silly, silly supernatural.
Of course, her stalker has been busy and it’s disgusting, heart wrenching work cleaning up, but someone has to do it. If only the idiot stalker was her one and only problem.
Blake, who has grown to be an important part of her life, has a secret, and he isn’t sharing.
Kass, her best friend, is marrying a shifter and drawing Olivia into a central role of Shifter politics she would rather avoid.
Finally Governor Hash has found an exceptionally speedy way to end up on her most likely to kill list.
Olivia is giving serious thought to revising her policy on not killing humans.
Kim Schubert has been accused of living in “lala” land on multiple occasions and believe me, she wishes it was true. No, contrary to popular belief she actually resides in Phoenix, AZ with her fantastically supportive husband and three dogs.
Writing has been a secret closet hobby of Kim’s since she was able to read herself, she dabbled as she bounced from job to job earning a paycheck, not a living.
All of that changed on July 3, 2011 when her little brother passed away. Writing was no longer a hobby, it was passion, a desire, a painful need to communicate all the emotions her subconscious was pumping out.
Now she aspires to share her writings with the world.
I’m honestly so very very confused about who and what Olivia truly is... And I don’t mean succubus or executioner, no I mean beyotch or doormat, badass or dumbass, because I’m constantly being told by Olivia she thinks she’s this big bad selfish “B” itch but all I see is a woman running around trying to do a job of about a 1/2 doz. ppl at least too busy fighting to stay alive and keep her head above water to always see what’s plainly in front of her face..... Letting ppl ask/demand too much from her one minute ( I mean I’m sorry her bestie is pregnant and getting married and getting a rough time from all the ignorant idiots hating on her species , but expecting her to drop everything at a moments notice to go dress shopping or springing new jobs in her last minute is just selfish and WRONG!!!!) I keep getting told Olivia is this big badass but while she’s just swinging from one terrible tragic problem to another, no one and I mean NO ONE truly seems to appreciate all she does, and at the moment NO ONS is really there for her w/out wanting anything from her( every one in her life) e v e r y o n e !!! Wants something from her ,especially Kass, barely letting get a good nights rest before demanding something new from her and Blake ? That secretive d bag,is just a disaster in the making, you could see that from the start how he pushed their relationship too far, too fast and didn’t try to protect her, even when his own ppl drugged her and hurt hurt... Honestly Olivia is a bit of a fraud to me,for all her claims of viciousness p, that we have to bear as she berates herself, she’s a soft hearted doormat who lets ppl get away with too much at times and doesn’t follow up and question things when she knows she should.... I want a h who owns who she is and who she isn’t, knows she’s not perfect but owns that to and despite her issues she has confidence and we aren’t treated to her constant inner cries of self loathing ( which “Ollie” is quick to do) all the while trying stupidly cater to everyone and fix everything thing she can,all the while having no one there to truly take care of her or put her needs first .... Sighs even if I hadn’t read ahead fen a blind man or woman can see with all his secrets Blake is going to crash and burn,he was desperate to have her but doesn’t really trust her, honestly she and Blake make about as much sense as Logan and Lorraine... Ok, maybe not that bad, because as much as I hate the term “cray cray” I don’t know what else to call Logan and that very very crazy Biatch, beyotch ...... I want to like Logan because I’ve read ahead and I know where that goes but ( shakes my head) it just doesn’t make sense ... I just soo soo hope if I continue this series Olivia grows into herself because she really disappoints atm... You want a good and secure badass female, goddess with a blade by Lauren Dane Rowan Sumnerwaite is a badass hunter who kills vampires when they get out of hand but she is a grown feeling woman who while brutal at times, has a kind heart ♥️ but never ever a doormat and owns who she is... I will read more I just hope it gets better..
Not impressed with Blake so far. He's a good influence for her, that's true, and he certainly does seem to love her but I don't like his secrets. Don't get me wrong. He can certainly have them. Olie is not an easy woman to like and she has probably hundreds of them and I'm fine with it. My problem is how even after seeing his problems bleeding into her life, after having people come gunning for her, he still doesn't share his troubles with her. He's purposefully letting her be in danger. I'm not saying he has to let her help him. His poor ego might crumble if he does and I don't really want him to die for it but ignoring that danger? Keeping her in the dark? Not cool. She's going to stumble in without a heads up, kill someone and start a war or something and, while I will freely admit she's way too impulsive and murderous for my tastes sometimes, anything that happens from that situation will fully rest with Blake. And he deserves it. Apart from that...I really liked everything. I loved how kick-ass Olie was and how, despite her blunt manner, she's always surrounded by friends willing to help her. I also liked the new romantic development regarding Logan. He's a stubborn idiot who always treated her poorly and I'm gonna love seeing her putting him in his place. Under her. With an awed smile in his face while she screws his brains out. And then punches his lights out for being an idiot. Ahhhh..I really wished the 3rd book was already out.

Demigod Down begins with Olivia being away from home for a while and taking care of a job. She is heading back home, but upon returning she realizes that Blake his hiding something, and she knows she can help, but he won't confide in her.
Next, Olivia must deal with the humans, some missing shifters, and of course more issues with Logan the shifter alpha. But, Olivia is going to do the best she can do to help them all.
However, this time may not be so easy trying to find the bad guy, figure out what's up with her boyfriend, and controlling the shifter problems, but Olivia must figure it out before it is too late.
This book was really good! I actually cried a few times though, and I seriously hate Blake. I already didn't really like him in the first book, but this one just got worse. I couldn't stand him.
I felt so bad for Olivia, but I also loved getting to know her better, and learning how strong she is.
I can't wait for reading more in this series! It's a wonderful UF/Paranormal series!
Well, this is a heroine that put the bad in the badass. And not always in a fun way =D.
But she is still one of the biggest draws in this series. Strong but able to admit her weakness. Vulnerable and violative but self-sacrificing. She simply has a nice cocktail of traits that make her not just worthy of respect but also relatable enough to identify with her and her values.
Some details feel a little "uncooked" - the "peanut gallery" is too often very one-dimensional, they sneer and fear her and she usually shuts them up which would be relatively fine as a one-time event but when it happens every time, it feels it's unoriginal, a copy-paste situation. The same goes for Lorelaine. While she may introduce conflict to the book, she does it by being quite unoriginal and two-dimensional, which is a shame. Bad guys are basically a whole half of the book - a quality, complex nemesis is way better than someone petty and hateful.
Even some fights get a little too predictable for my taste: bad guys come (human, not-human, does not matter), they think they can beat her, they insult her, they wail as she kicks their ass and kills them.
It's nice how confident she is, yes, but she is getting just a little too strong, perhaps?
But I can deal with that. The only thing that really bothered me was Blake. Their relationship seemed hurried but at the same time, felt different enough I did not mind. Olivia has a different outlook on the relationship thing so it was okay hers was so abrupt and surprising.
What I did not like was Blake's role in the relationship. Now there are two types of partners for badass, ass-kicking MCs - the solace or the partner in crime (they may not be exclusive, they are just, for me, two points of the scale). Blake somehow managed to fail at both. He has trouble accepting help when he's incompetent (which is a bad trait in a romantic interest) but neither he is living up to his reputation and potential as a vampire. He was more useful when he was not dating her. The only thing he can do is make her smile and happy - when they are together. Usually. Otherwise, he's just a hassle and I am not really sure he's worth it.
I just keep thinking of Kate Daniels (but then, when am I not comparing urban fantasy with KD?) and this feels like such a wasted potential. When I think about the powerhouse that is Kate and Curran together... *daydreaming*
Yeah, I get shivers, get instantly into the fangirling mode. It's just such a beautiful thing to behold.
Blake was... meh - worse than meh, sometimes. He mostly just looked pretty and made more problems - real and emotional. But it tells me (is it a spoiler if it's just my opinion?) that he may not be The One. That he may just get traded for someone that would fit with her, not just being with the first guy that asked her for a relationship.
Overall, the series has a pretty solid thing going on. A nice combination of some nice motifs and characters and systems and such... Not that awesome on their own but together, they make something good. Not too shabby (even if I tend to skip the more boring stuff so I enjoy reading it more) with a potential to get better.
This book nicely builds on from the first in the series. The characters are beginning to have much better definition though there is much left unsaid and hinted at with Olivia’s backstory. I hope that is resolved in the future books.
In this book Olivia is drawn deeper into shifter affairs through her friendship with Kass, a succubus who is marrying the brother of the head of the Eastern US shifters, Logan. Logan is engaged to a human and seems to letting things slide and Olivia ends up being his support in order to keep Kass safe.
Olivia keeps getting dragged to Oklahoma in order to deal with supernatural issues, including a shifter slavery ring. It brings back memories of her childhood and at the same time Blake is keeping quiet about “family” problems.
There is lots of plot in this book and it speeding along at a cracking pace. A very enjoyable read.
Pros: I am loving this series. The action and pacing are amazing. Fans of vampire fiction should definitely make sure to read these books.
Cons: It drives me crazy to see a book this good have so many proofreading issues. For example, the author constantly uses "groves" (as in orchards) when she means "grooves" (as in slash marks). There are also lots of missing articles, e.g. "Bracing his hands on either side of bar" and "Hector's office was decorate slightly better than rest of the precinct." These are little errors, but they are numerous and distracting, and they would have been so easy to fix.
well, english is not my first language and i read english to improve myself… well… i notist Errors and well...needles to say my english is not so good, i still understod the storryline and plot. i love this book but it will not improve me it will pull me lower/down.i can not help myself though have to continue reading them!!! still awesome storry!
I actually jumped from the middle of book 2 to skimming book 3 and speed reading books 4 and 5. I have problems, I know. I like Olivia, her problems and the world are interesting and the cast of characters are fun. Logan is predictable and I wish Lorraine would just die or disappear (she is worthless as a character and if she were a real person a waste of space). I will say I am meh on Blake and couldn't even remember who he was from book 1.
Grammer Rant! The thing that bugged me the most was the terrible editing of the book. Idol for idle, missing words, incorrectly spelled words. I always want to tell people that anyways is not a word. Yes, I know that it is so commonly misused that it is Urban Dictionary. The definition is so amazing and accurate that I have to share it- "A term used by complete and utter cunts. One of those ghastly American expressions that is becoming more and more common place. People who say this word also tend to say 'anywho' rather than 'anyhow', it winds me right up." I also have to agree with it winding me up. Yes, I am an American. No, I do not say anyways. It is not a word.
Finally, the legendary executioner gets to kill some people!
But we've still got problems. I seriously doubt this book was edited at all and if it was, it must've been edited by somebody that doesn't speak English very well. There are multiple sentences that simply do not make sense. Any time the word "loath" is used, it's misspelled. I don't think "loth" is a word. Spellcheck says it's not. There are a few things in the fight scenes that are physically impossible, regardless of your supernaturalness. So yeah, lots of editing issues.
As for the plot, I'm digging it. I don't like Olivia with Blake, but I'm also not too fond of Logan, either - I feel like we're headed for a change in romantic interest. If that's the case, Logan has some serious improvements to make.
I wish we got some more explanations of various things, but in an effort to write an action-packed story, I feel like the author just wanted to move on to the next fight instead of explaining why the fuck there are massive talking snakes that cause hallucinations. Like... don't you want to know what that was about?! I sure as fuck do.
Anyway, I'm picking up the next book asap. With so many disappointing DNFs lately, I'm sticking with what works until I have no choice.
The characters are well written and easy to get attached to. My only critique is it needs editing. However, the story is engrossing enough I can overlook the. It deserves the 5 stars. Oli's life certainly gets more complicated when Logan's deficiencies cement her into a new 're as a shifter negotiator/ councillor. She doesn't need nor want the added responsibility but is requested by other shifters. Her relationship with Blake while heated and growing is put to several tests and leaves you wondering where it'll hit a peek. Oli must rescue humans, shifters, vampires and others slated to be changed into mindless breasts, while the governor and police harass and belittle her. How many times does she need to remind them who she is and the reason she's so good at her job? Kidnapping, blood, dangerous enemies, love and excitement make for a continuous ride that keeps the reader engrossed and spitting mad. Great story, strong characters with depth and growth create an enthralling world.
I am really enjoying this story and all the possible ways it could go. I just spent today reading the first book and this second one today and it is currently 12:45am. I had to finish all of them because I could not wait to see what happened next. Honestly I can say that I am enjoying every character that has come up so far. It gets frustrating how often there is a person in the story that doesn't max sense or you just want stop reading because they are so frustrating in the story line. (Not in a good way, by building story line)
I know that people are not going to agree with this, but I hope that Blake mess up so that Olie is a free agent to maybe see where it could go with Logan! I'm sure I just got tons of groans on that one
The first book in this series was interesting enough that I got this book - the second in the series. This was a major disappointment. Bad grammar, sentences that made no sense, and spelling errors are only part of the problem. What was worse is that there is no discernible point to the story. I had to struggle to make it through the first chapter; I didn't make to the end of chapter two. Don't waste your time on this one!
I have to admit, I would give this book a five if not for the grammar. Specifically, the proper use of "than". And stupid Blake. I love how Ollie is willing to do the things that she needs to for those she loves. And even those she doesn't quite care for (aka Logan). She is finally opening up about her fears from her past. And a possible love interest with Logan?!

Olie's story continues as she further enters alliances with the shifters, and befriends Logan in particular;) Vampires get into trouble -of course- but Olie saves their ass.
Well, it was better than the last one. A little more focused, and the love triangle is more fleshed out. Spelling was awful though. I'm interested in seeing how Blake and Olivia's relationship becomes inevitably doomed...
Great characters, good plot, but needs some MAJOR editing! So many spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors that it interrupts the story, which is really annoying. If not for that, would've been a higher rating.
