The conversations, the teasing between friends, the everyday interactions, the misunderstandings, the little gestures of support, these details were what gradually made Sid, Nia, Amanda and Jay feel like people rather than characters being moved through a plot.
Nia and Amanda's friendship was all convincing because it wasn't polished. They were different, they didn't always see things the same way, but there was an underlying trust that kept bringing them back to each other. That made all the sense to me than any perfectly harmonious friendship would have. The romantic relationships too, developed at their own pace. Jay and Amanda's story had a slightly awkward quality that well suited their personalities while Nia and Sid's connection carried a more calm, emotional energy!
And then the narrative takes an unexpectedly serious turn and those earlier ordinary moments, started to acquire a different weight. The book then begins asking what happens when life interrupts the plans we have made for ourselves! This book is simple in its storytelling but definitely emotional!!
Sometimes the best stories aren't the loudest.. they're the ones that quietly make you smile. Hearts and Hiccups is one of those books.
It beautifully captures the magic of college friendships, first love, and the unexpected turns life brings. The characters felt warm and relatable, and I found myself rooting for them from beginning to end. It's a cozy, heartfelt read that leaves you feeling lighter and grateful for the people who make life's journey worthwhile. Highly recommended for anyone who loves wholesome contemporary romance!
This book is such a cute and heartwarming read with so many wholesome moments. One of the things I loved most was how beautifully it portrays strong friendship. Beyond being a sweet romance, it also explores how relationships can end without bitterness and how people can handle breakups with maturity.
What I appreciated the most is that there is no love triangle. That’s honestly one of the best parts because so many romance books that revolve around two friends falling for the same person, leading to jealousy and messy relationships. This book takes a completely different approach. Instead, it focuses on healthy friendships, emotional growth, and maturity.
At its core, this story is about timing and trusting that the right person will come into your life when the time is right. Sometimes relationships don’t work out, not because the love wasn’t real, but because they’re meant to lead you toward what you truly deserve.
The story follows Amanda, Nia, and Jay. Amanda and Nia are best friends and roommates, and their friendship is one of the highlights of the book. It’s supportive, genuine, and the kind of friendship everyone deserves. As the story unfolds, Amanda and Jay develop feelings for each other and begin a relationship. Nia is genuinely happy for her friend, and as the years pass, each of them grows in their own way Nia builds her career while Amanda and Jay’s relationship continues to evolve. As the years go by, life changes, but the bond between the three remains strong. I also loved how the author portrays grief and the different ways people cope with loss, adding another emotional layer to the story.
What makes this book stand out is its message that you can love someone wholeheartedly, yet still realize you’re not meant to be together. A relationship can end with respect, and you can continue to care about each other without resentment. Sometimes letting go is what allows you to find the person you’re truly meant to be with someone with whom love feels natural and comforting, not like a job or an obligation.
The writing is simple, engaging, and easy to connect with, making it a quick and enjoyable read. Since it’s a short book, the pacing is well-balanced, and the story never feels rushed or dragged.I also really liked the ending. It felt satisfying and stayed true to the story’s message of healing, growth, and new beginnings. Seeing every character find the happiness and closure they deserved made the conclusion even more heartwarming.
There's a certain danger with college romances...like the setting can become more memorable than the story itself😅 Hearts and Hiccups didn't let college life be the endpoint...rather, it treated it as the starting point!!
The early sections have the warmth of roommates becoming best friends, playful interactions, pranks, new relationships and the kind of friendships that feel permanent when you're living through them🫶⭐ But slowly, the story begins to move into more difficult territory🙃🥲
The emotional shift in here, isn't treated as a completely separate story. The relationships that had established earlier, became the foundation through which the characters navigated what followed🤞 Nia's fears, Amanda's relationship with Jay, Jay's temperament, Sid's emotional steadiness and the trio's friendship...all acquired much more significance once the circumstances started to become harder🙌🙃
I particularly appreciate, the absence of unnecessary romantic complications. The book is much more interested in understanding relationships than creating drama around them🤌 Even when emotions became complicated, the focus remained on how people responded to one another🥹🤌
In all, it's a story that begins with the comfort of campus romance and gradually becomes a keen observation on attachment, loss, resilience and the people who stand beside us when life stops being predictable🤞
'Hearts and Hiccups' is a short cute story of being yourself, loving someone for who they are and finding joy in life despite the busy schedules, chaotic meetings and never ending deadlines.
Nia and Amanda are friends made for each other. They knew each other like back of their hands. One is always present for the other no matter what. One prank and participation from Nia, brought Jay and Amanda close. Jay became the part of the trio even without anyone noticing. Life happened. Chapters closed. Friendship stayed. Jay and Amanda married while Nia took her career at heights. And met Siddhant one day, like a lovely Breeze in her life. It sounds all set right? But is it? Life has a weird way of playing out and so with Nia, Amanda and Jay.
The story is good and I liked the characters too. What I didn't like much was the unnecessary stretch. At certain points, the story was slow while by the end, it was kind of fast paced with all the celebrations and twists happening one after the other. I believe a constant momentum with story could have been better but overall, I enjoyed reading.
I learned a lot of idioms and the witty humourous conservations among the characters was entertaining. The description of friendship as Amanda, Jay and Nia grew was profound and examplary.
If you, like me, values a true friendship and bonding, this book is worth the read.
The college setting, roommates becoming inseparable friends, teasing, pranks, awkward feelings and those insignificant sounding...everyday conversations, all created the atmosphere of a time when friendships had become the centre of our entire world! (Oh how I missed my classmates) But the book didn't remain trapped in that carefree phase for long. I liked watching the characters move from simply enjoying their lives to actually having to deal with it! Relationships became more complicated, decisions started carrying consequences and an unexpected tragedy forced everyone to look at love, loss and responsibility altogether differently.
Nia's experiences haven't been presented as some neat path.......from one emotion to another. There's uncertainty, vulnerability and eventual understanding. Similarly, Jay's quieter personality made his relationship with Amanda feel different, like from the more emotionally loaded moments elsewhere in the story and I so loved to read every bit of it.
This book, Hearts and Hiccups, didn't feel like an elaborated romance alone for it's more like a recollection of people, phases and relationships that change us all! It's like a reminder that growing up doesn't mean we leave our people behind, it means that we learn how to hold on to them differently!
Hearts and Hiccups felt like a warm hug in book form. From the very beginning, I loved the bond between Nia and Amanda, their friendship felt natural, comforting, and full of those little moments that make certain people feel like home. The story captures love, laughter, misunderstandings, and the beautiful chaos of growing up in a way that feels deeply relatable.
I love the emotional balance of the book. It has sweet romantic moments, playful banter, and genuine friendships, but it also doesn't shy away from heartbreak and difficult choices. I found myself smiling at some scenes and quietly reflecting during others. Nia's journey, in particular, felt heartfelt and real, and I appreciated how the characters were allowed to be imperfect, vulnerable, and human.
Author writes with warmth and sincerity, making it easy to connect with every relationship in the story. This is a lovely reminder that the people who stand beside us through life's hiccups often become our greatest source of strength. I closed this book with a full heart and a smile, grateful for the time I spent with these characters. A charming, emotional, and genuinely feel-good read that I would happily recommend.
Hearts and Hiccups is a short cute story of being true to yourself and finding happiness in little moments. It vividly depicts the sweetness of friendships.
The story follows Nia, Amanda, and Jay, who are friends. Nia and Amanda are roommates and can do anything for each other. Their friendship is the core of the book. One day they play a prank, and participation brings Jay and Amanda close. They become close to each other without the trio even noticing. As the story develops, Amanda and Jay develop affections for one another and begin a romance. Nia is truly delighted for her friend, and as the years pass, each of them matures in their own way. Nia advances in her job. While Amanda and Jay's relationship evolves in their marriage. Life changes throughout the years, but the three have a deep friendship.
Nia meets Siddhant like a lovely breeze in her life. But it is intriguing to read how their life takes a turn on the entry of Siddhant. Will friendship sustain?
It’s supportive, genuine, and the kind of friendship everyone deserves. I also loved how the author portrays grief and the different ways people cope with loss, adding another emotional layer to the story.
Title and Cover: The title and cover of the book are super catchy and Colourful, which intrigue the minds of readers. Plot:- Coming to the book, the story follows Nia and Amanda, roommates turned best buddies who are complete opposites, yet fit together flawlessly. I must say that this story is totally relatable to the 90s generation, where most friendships start either in School or at Hostels.
The story takes a twist when Nia’s simple gag throws Jay into Amanda’s life, and their love story sparks instantly. Proceeding to their sweet Love story and navigating their temperaments feels like honest love We realise patience and compromise are the foundation of true love.
On the other hand, Nia finds herself connected to Sid, who was a doctor. But Nia and Sid’s story is a bit different. Unlike Amanda and Jay, they enjoy each other's company a great deal, which brings about some giggly moments. This story wholly sticks to giving you Butterflies with a drop of Tears.
Overall I highly recommend this book to my Fellow readers. This book is such a fascinating read for romance fiction Lovers♡
There are some books that remind you of your college days, and Hearts and Hiccups definitely did that for me.
It isn't just a romance.. it's a story about the friendships that shape who we become. Nia and Amanda's bond was honestly my favorite part because it felt so authentic. They tease each other, support each other, and stay together through everything life throws at them.
The romance develops naturally without feeling forced, especially the friends-to-lovers moments that had me smiling more than once.
I also appreciated that the characters weren't perfect. They make mistakes, misunderstand each other, and grow from their experiences, which makes them feel like real people instead of fictional characters.
The emotional moments caught me by surprise and added depth to what initially seemed like a lighthearted romance.
By the end, I felt attached to the characters and genuinely didn't want the story to end. If you enjoy wholesome college romances with heartfelt friendships, humor and emotional growth, this book is absolutely worth reading.
I liked the fact that this book has characters who do not always make perfect choices. Nia, Amanda, Jay and Sid each have their own personality, and that gives their interactions some variety. Amanda and Nia being so different made their friendship interesting to follow. There are plenty of lighter moments around their college life, which give the book a youthful feel. Once Amanda and Jay become involved, their differences start creating difficulties. I could understand the frustration on both sides because they seem to approach things very differently.
Nia’s story with Sid develops alongside all of this. He is a doctor who genuinely cares about her, and his feelings become important when Nia’s life becomes more complicated. A tragic incident puts her in a situation where she has to face some difficult fears. I thought the emotional change worked well, even though I wanted a little more detail in certain places. The story is mainly about people and their relationships, with enough romance and humour to keep things moving. It was an enjoyable read with some genuinely emotional moments.
The title made me expect something fairly light, and the book does have that side. The college scenes, friendship and early romantic moments give it a cheerful start. Nia and Amanda are especially fun because they have very different personalities. Their friendship feels important to both of them, even when they do not always agree. Amanda’s feelings for Jay bring another set of problems because he is much more level-headed than she is. Their differences become something they have to deal with instead of something that disappears once they fall in love.
Nia’s relationship with Sid has a different atmosphere. He is a sensitive doctor who is deeply interested in her, and I liked the caring nature of his character. Things become much more serious when Nia experiences a tragedy that forces her to look at her life differently. That section gave the story a stronger emotional side. I did wish some parts had been developed more, especially when the characters were dealing with major feelings. Still, I liked the combination of friendship, romance and emotional conflict. It was a nice change of pace from a purely romantic story.
The friendship was the part that caught my attention first. Nia and Amanda have such different personalities, yet they manage to build a strong connection. I liked their small interactions because they gave the story a sense of everyday life. There is a playful side to the college setting too, which makes the opening chapters quite cheerful. Then Amanda meets Jay and starts falling for him. Their relationship brings a different mood because they have different temperaments and ways of looking at things. Their problems felt understandable to me.
Nia’s connection with Sid has a softer quality. He is sensitive, caring and clearly serious about her. I thought this gave the story another emotional layer without taking away from the friendship between the girls. Later, Nia is faced with a tragedy that forces her to confront some difficult emotions. That was probably the part I found most serious. I liked the way the book moved between happiness and sadness. Some parts felt a little underdeveloped, but the characters gave me enough reason to keep reading. It is a heartfelt story with several relationships at its centre.
For me, the strongest part of Hearts and Hiccups was the contrast between the characters. Nia and Amanda are close friends despite having very different personalities. That difference creates some enjoyable moments because they do not always approach situations in the same way. The college backdrop adds to the lighter side of the book, especially in the beginning. Amanda’s romance with Jay then brings more tension into the story. He is shy and level-headed, while Amanda has a different attitude, so they have plenty to figure out together.
I also found Nia’s connection with Sid interesting. His profession as a doctor and his sensitive nature give him a different presence in the story. When Nia is faced with a terrible loss, the book takes a much more emotional direction. Her fears and hopes become central, and the people around her have to deal with the changes too. I liked seeing how the characters responded differently to difficult circumstances. Some scenes could have used more depth, but the story still managed to hold my attention. It is a warm read with a serious emotional side.
I found myself paying more attention to the friendships in this book than I expected. Nia and Amanda have a very close bond, and their opposite personalities make their friendship enjoyable. There are plenty of ordinary college moments that give the story a relaxed start. Then romance begins to complicate things. Amanda and Jay are attracted to each other, but their different temperaments create situations where they have to understand each other better. I thought that was one of the more interesting parts of the book.
Sid brings a completely different energy into Nia’s life. He is a doctor and seems deeply invested in her happiness. His feelings for her become more meaningful once Nia is faced with a painful situation. The tragedy changes the direction of the story and brings out a more vulnerable side of everyone involved. I liked that the book allowed the characters to experience happiness and pain within the same narrative. There were a few places where I wanted the emotional scenes to be expanded, but I still found the story engaging. It is a nice combination of friendship, romance and difficult life moments.
There is a nice sense of closeness between the characters in Hearts and Hiccups. Nia and Amanda have the kind of friendship where they can be completely different and still remain close. Their college life gives the beginning a fun atmosphere, and I enjoyed the lighter interactions. Amanda’s romance with Jay adds some tension because their personalities are quite different. Jay is more reserved and level-headed, while Amanda approaches things differently. That creates some believable disagreements between them.
Nia’s relationship with Sid gives the book another emotional direction. He is a doctor with a caring personality, and his feelings for Nia are clear. The story becomes much more serious when Nia goes through a tragic experience. Her reaction and the effect it has on the people around her gave the second part more emotional depth. I liked that the characters were allowed to have different reactions instead of everything being handled neatly. There are a few areas where I would have liked more development, but the story has enough warmth and emotion to make it an enjoyable read.
Hearts and Hiccups has a nice mix of friendship, romance and some painful moments that I wasn’t expecting. I liked starting with Nia and Amanda because their personalities are so different. There is a comfortable feeling in their friendship, with enough teasing and little disagreements to keep it from becoming too perfect. The college setting also works well for the early part of the story. When Jay becomes part of Amanda’s life, things become more complicated because the two of them see things quite differently. I could understand why their differences created problems even when they cared about each other.
Nia’s side brings another kind of emotion through Sid. He is a doctor and comes across as caring and sensitive, which gives their connection a different feel. The biggest change comes when Nia has to deal with a tragedy that brings out her fears and hopes. I thought that part gave the story more emotional weight. A few sections could have been explored further, but I liked the balance of lighter moments and difficult ones. It was a pleasant read with enough emotional variety to keep me interested.
I went into this expecting a fairly light college romance, and there certainly are plenty of cheerful moments in the beginning. Nia and Amanda make an interesting pair because their personalities are almost opposite. Their friendship has a natural, lived-in feeling, especially in the casual moments between them. The romantic side becomes more interesting once Amanda and Jay start getting serious. They care about each other, though their attitudes and temperaments often create friction. I found myself paying attention to those differences because they affected their decisions.
The story takes a much heavier direction when Nia faces a devastating situation. That part changes the emotional atmosphere and gives her character more to deal with. Sid also becomes important here because of the care he has for her. I liked seeing how the characters responded in their own ways instead of everyone reacting identically. There were moments when I wanted certain scenes to be longer, especially around the emotional developments. Still, the book has warmth, humour, romance and heartbreak in a way that makes it an easy story to remember.
Hearts and Hiccups is a warm, feel-good college romance that beautifully captures the excitement of first love, the comfort of true friendship, and the unpredictability of growing up.
What I enjoyed most was the friendship between Nia, Amanda, and Jay. Their bond feels genuine and effortless, reminding you that sometimes the strongest relationships aren't romantic at all. The romance develops alongside their friendships, making every emotional moment feel more meaningful.
The characters are relatable, each bringing a different personality to the story. The story moves from light-hearted banter and sweet moments to more emotional turns, showing how quickly life can change.
The writing is simple, engaging, and easy to read, making it a perfect choice for anyone looking for a comforting contemporary romance.
Overall, Hearts and Hiccups is a charming read about love, friendship, loss, and finding the courage to embrace whatever life has in store. If you enjoy wholesome friends-to-lovers romances, this book is worth picking up.
Hearts and Hiccups initially felt like a sweet college romance, but the very strong way, friendship here is understood in, has all my heart!!Nia and Amanda may have been completely different people but their bond never felt dependent on them being similar. They simply knew how to make space for each other, tease each other, show up when it mattered and remain present through life's not so pleasant chapters!! The romance around that friendship grew gracefully. Jay's level headed personality created a lovely contrast with Amanda, while Nia and Sid added another emotional texture to the story. I particularly liked that the relationships aren't treated as interchangeable love tracks; each connection has its own rhythm and personality. The book has been made wonderfully effective by the way it gradually moves beyond the carefree atmosphere of college life. A sudden tragedy changed the emotional context and forced the characters to confront things they weren't at all prepared for. That shift gave the story all the depth it needed and made the story worth it.
There is quite a lot going on in Hearts and Hiccups, and I think that is what made it interesting for me. It begins with friendship and college life, then brings romance into the picture through Amanda and Jay. I liked that their personalities were different enough to cause actual problems. Their feelings for each other are strong, yet they still have to learn how to handle their differences. Nia and Amanda also have their own little ways of understanding each other, which gives the friendship some warmth.
Then Sid becomes important in Nia’s life, and his feelings bring another romantic thread into the story. He has a gentle and caring personality, which made his scenes stand apart. The serious event involving Nia changes the mood quite suddenly. I could see why it affected everyone around her because they are all connected in some way. I had mixed feelings about a few parts and wished certain moments had more detail. Still, I appreciated the emotional range. It is a story where friendship has just as much importance as romance.
One thing I appreciated here was the variety of relationships. The book doesn’t put everyone into the same emotional situation. Nia and Amanda have a strong friendship, Amanda and Jay have a romantic connection that comes with plenty of differences, and Nia has a separate bond with Sid. Each one has its own mood. The college setting also gives the early part a nice sense of youth and freedom. There are playful moments before the characters have to deal with more serious concerns.
I was especially interested in what happened to Nia later. A sudden tragedy forces her to face feelings she probably would have preferred to avoid. It also affects the people close to her, so the consequences reach beyond one character. Sid’s caring nature becomes more noticeable during this part. I thought the change from lighter scenes to heavier emotions gave the book some variety. I did have moments where I wanted more explanation or detail, but I still found the characters worth following. A good read for someone who enjoys romance mixed with friendship and emotional drama.
I liked the balance of humour and seriousness in this book. The opening has the kind of college atmosphere where friendships and silly situations can take up most of your attention. Nia and Amanda are fun together because they are so different. Their friendship has its own little rhythm. Then Amanda and Jay start getting closer, and their differences become harder to ignore. They clearly care for each other, but they still have to work around their different ways of thinking.
Nia has her own romantic situation with Sid, whose caring nature makes him stand out. He is also a doctor, which adds another detail to his character. The mood changes when Nia experiences a tragedy, and the story becomes much more emotional from there. I thought this part showed how quickly life can move from ordinary concerns to something much bigger. A few developments happened faster than I would have preferred, but I still enjoyed the overall story. The friendships and individual personalities gave it enough character to keep me reading.
What I liked about this book was the group of characters and the different personalities they bring into the same story. Nia and Amanda are very close even though they seem like complete opposites. Their friendship has a nice amount of humour and affection, and it gives the book a warm beginning. Amanda’s life changes when she falls for Jay, and their differences become a regular source of conflict. I found their situation believable because being in love does not suddenly make two people think alike.
Sid’s presence adds another side to Nia’s story. His feelings for her are quite strong, and his caring nature makes his scenes different from the ones involving Amanda and Jay. I also liked that the author did not keep everything focused on romance. The sudden tragedy that Nia faces brings fear and uncertainty into the picture. That section made the characters more vulnerable. The book has some uneven parts, and I wanted more detail in places, but the emotions and friendships made it an engaging read.
There’s something about books set during college that instantly makes me feel nostalgic, and Hearts and Hiccups did exactly that.
While romance is a big part of the story, what stayed with me the most was the friendship between Nia, Amanda, and Jay. Their bond felt real the kind of friendship that’s filled with laughter, silly moments, support, misunderstandings, and always being there for each other when it matters.
I also loved that the romance didn’t overshadow everything else. It grew naturally, making the emotional moments feel even more meaningful. The story isn’t just about falling in love it’s also about growing up, facing unexpected challenges, and learning how important the right people are in your life.
There were moments that made me smile, and a few that genuinely caught me off guard emotionally.
If you enjoy college romance, heartfelt friendships, and stories that leave you feeling warm long after you’ve finished reading, I’d definitely recommend this one.
I picked up Hearts and Hiccups expecting a cute romance, but I ended up falling in love with the friendships just as much as the love stories.
The college setting felt lively and nostalgic, bringing back memories of carefree days, inside jokes, and friendships that become family. Nia quickly became my favorite character because of her energy and honesty. Watching her journey unfold was both emotional and inspiring.
I loved that every relationship in the story had its own personality, making each interaction feel meaningful.
The writing is simple, warm, and incredibly easy to get lost in. I finished it in one sitting because I kept wanting to know what would happen next. There are funny moments that made me laugh and emotional scenes that genuinely touched me.
This is one of those comforting books that leaves you feeling hopeful long after you've turned the last page.
As someone who enjoys character-driven stories, Hearts and Hiccups was such a pleasant surprise. Rather than relying on unnecessary drama, the book focuses on genuine emotions, healthy friendships, and personal growth. That made it feel refreshing.
Jay stood out to me because shy male characters are often overlooked, and I loved how quietly sincere he was. The chemistry between the couples felt believable, and nothing seemed overly dramatic or unrealistic. The friendships were written with just as much care as the romances, making every relationship feel important.
The emotional turns in the story were handled beautifully and added depth without taking away from the hopeful atmosphere.
I felt like I had spent time with real people rather than fictional characters. It's a sweet, comforting read that perfectly balances romance, humor and heartfelt emotion.
Hearts and Hiccups was such a sweet, comforting read. It's a friends-to-lovers story set in college, and it never feels rushed, everything grows naturally, step by step.
I really loved Nia's story. Watching her deal with grief and slowly heal felt so real. And Jay was the kind of person who didn't need big gestures to show he cared — just small, thoughtful things that meant a lot. Amanda was another favorite of mine, she added so much warmth to the story.
There's no love triangle or unnecessary drama, just genuine friendship and people supporting each other through hard times. The writing is simple and easy to get lost in, though the middle part did feel a little slow.
Even though it's a short book, nothing feels rushed. Every character and every relationship gets its moment. And the ending? Left me with a big smile.
If you enjoy sweet, heartfelt stories about love, friendship, and healing, this one's definitely worth picking up.
There is something very human about the way this story unfolds. It begins with moments that feel familiar, friends spending time together, conversations that move between light jokes and quiet thoughts. Slowly, things start to shift. Emotions grow more complicated, and people begin to hold back instead of opening up. That silence creates distance, even when they are still close. I kept noticing how each character handled situations differently, sometimes making choices that felt confusing, yet honest.
As the story moves ahead, a sudden loss changes everything and brings a heavier tone. The reactions are not dramatic in an exaggerated way, they feel closer to how people actually deal with shock and grief. Some parts could have gone deeper, especially after that turning point, but the emotions still came through clearly. It left me thinking about how fragile relationships can be when things are left unsaid.
I absolutely adored the atmosphere of Hearts and Hiccups. From the very first chapter, it felt warm, comforting and impossible not to smile while reading.
The author captures the excitement of college life, first love, and lifelong friendships with so much sincerity. What impressed me most was how naturally the relationships developed. Nothing felt rushed, and every emotional moment earned its place.
The conversations between friends felt genuine, and the romance unfolded in such a wholesome way that I couldn't help rooting for everyone.
Even when the story explores heartbreak and unexpected challenges, it never loses its hopeful spirit. The ending left me feeling happy, emotional, and grateful for the journey.
If you're looking for a cozy romance filled with lovable characters, meaningful friendships and plenty of heart, this is definitely a book to add to your reading list.
