The most outstanding voices of the Detroit Red Wings hockey tradition come together in this decade-by-decade collection of more than 40 stories. Wings fans will relish the intimate stories told by Steve Yzerman, Niklas Lindstrom, Ted Lindsay, and other figures they have come to cherish. One phrase, one season, or one particular game cannot capture the spirit of the Red Wings; instead, the players and managers who made the magic happen over the decades blend their experiences to capture the true essence of their beloved team.
I kind of loved this. Red Wing players from the 40's until the early 2000's each with very different stories and feelings about the experience. Some are glowing remembrances of the team they played for, others deal with clearing the air on specific incidents, others express their displeasure at certain events which happened during their tenure in Detroit. All of the players, however, detail their pride at wearing the winged wheel and being apart of such a storied organization.
For me, it was a glimpse into the history of the team, something I'm not familiar with. Some names are legendary and there are some that I am hearing for the first time. I've always known this organization was special, but to hear it in the players' words and to read their experiences was a lot of fun. I'm very much hoping for a Volume 2
