When you've finally found somewhere to belong, why does part of you still long for adventure?
Cali has everything she’s ever a crackling hearth at The Tusk & Tail tavern, friends who've become family, and pastries worthy of a quest. But while her crewmates have found their purpose in the charming village of Wayside, the pantheri archer can't quite shake the restlessness that comes after spending a lifetime adventuring.
Then a mysterious lady pirate sails into town with an escaped prisoner to find, a tangled past, and more intrigue than a sleepy village has any right to host. Suddenly, the scent of fresh-baked pie and warm chai can't compete with the pull of adventure—or the pull of the beautiful pirate.
But the warmth of the found family waiting at The Tusk & Tail has a way of following Cali, no matter how far the tide tries to carry her. And perhaps the purpose she’s been searching for was never far from reach at all.
Potions, Pirates & Pie is a heartwarming, low-stakes, slow-simmer, romantic cozy fantasy brimming with gentle intrigue, mouthwatering baked goods, enchanted creatures, and the quiet magic of finally knowing your place in the world. It features no kingdoms to save or epic battles. Only the courage to search for what you truly want, and the hope that love and belonging can bloom one warm cup of chai and stolen adventure at a time.
Potions, Pirates & Pie, 4th story in the Tales from the Tavern series
This is such a fun and cozy read. Turning all her pirate fantasies into reality, FMC Cali agrees to help Bonnie-One-Eye, notorious pirate captain of The Cruel Mistress, in finding her Jolly boat that has been stolen. While Cali is a little nervous, as pantheri aren't super fond of water, she agrees, as she is a little lost since settling in Wayside, and feels the call of adventure. With her dwarf friend Thrain, and an unexpected stowaway coming along, this trip should prove to be one of a kind.
I think Cali is brave for agreeing to go on this quest, but also it does sound fun, I mean how often are you given the chance to go sail on a pirate ship!? Not only that, but Cali gets to sail with a notorious pirate captain, an all female crew, and one of the most beautiful ships she has ever seen. As the crew make their way to find the stolen jolly boat, Cali learns more about the reasoning behind this quest, more about herself, and becomes just as passionate about recovering the jolly boat as the crew.
All the characters in this story are just perfect! I especially love Bramble the raccoon, who fits right in with Marvella the chef. Thrain is hilarious, being the only male on the ship, has to do his best to make sure he is not thrown overboard. The adventure for Cali begins the second she steps on deck, with tales of the sea creatures, and mysterious secret islands, she is not sure what she signed up for. There are of course mermaids, and sirens, each part of the voyage to find the jolly boat. Cali proves to be quite an asset on the journey, and enjoys doing her part as crow's nest lookout. Even I felt like I was experiencing my own pirate adventure alongside Cali, with the descriptions of the food, and each chapter bringing a new experience.
Not only does Cali assist Bonnie in this voyage, but she also finally finds what she has been looking for, in more ways than one. With a very slow burn romance, along with so much excitement at every turn, you won't be able to put this one down!
Thank you so much to the author for a copy of this story!!
Some fav quotes: "“They took nothing but my jolly boat.” The pirate interlaced her fingers in front of her, her voice edged with steel. “But no one steals from Bonnie One-Eye.”"
"“You don’t want to go on an adventure with pirates? How many people get to step into the world of their favorite books?”"
"Cali tapped one foot as she eyed the contents of the standing wardrobe and lamented to herself that she had nothing to wear for a pirate adventure."
"The pirate captain thrilled her more than she would ever say."
"“I’ll have you know, I’m precisely the right amount of hairiness for a dwarf.”"
"If she’d known that all the creatures in the sea were moodier than a troll who’d missed a meal and more vengeful than a wounded goblin, she would have never come."
"Sometimes we’re so busy looking ahead that we don’t take time to enjoy where we are."
"“Piracy is no excuse for illiteracy.”"
"“But destiny is all about the choices we make and the chances we take. Fate might shuffle the runes, but we play them.”"
It’s time for Cali to take front stage and being a fan of pirate romance stories, she finds herself on a mission on a pirate ship helping a pirate out who has captured her interest. This book felt slightly different with most of it being situated on a ship. I missed the usual characters but was good to meet some new ones. There are still plenty of mention of food but more savoury this time which did leave me craving the sweeter ones made in the village and tavern.
The story gives off vibes of The Pirates of the Carribean so if you love those films, you will certainly enjoy this book. There are mystical creatures which I certainly wouldn’t want to get on the wrong side of. We also learn more about Cali and her past and wondering if she will give in to the temptation of adventure or will her love of Wayside and her friends be enough to lull her back. You can see she is torn and I was torn for her with there being a new love interest on the scene.
Potions, Pirates and Pie was another highly entertaining story that went pretty quickly at less than three hundred pages. I love the mystical creatures with the threads of romance, adventure and battles of the heart and mind. It’s a great world to escape in to yet always manages to make me hungry with all the fabulous descriptions of food. Good job it isn’t a real place because if I lived there, my waist band would be stretched to it’s limits! A great read to cosy up with!
Cali has been reading pirate romance's ever since she got to Wayside, and now she has a chance to explore the pirate lifestyle herself. Our favorite Pantheri has been a bit restless in the village, so when One-Eyed Bonnie bursts into town looking for information on the Hellkins that had been sent to Eldu, she's more than happy to join the crew when volunteered. What she doesn't know is that the Cruel Mistress has secrets of her own that Cali had never expected from her reading.
It feels so good to be back at the Tusk and Tails tavern exploring the life of another of our wonderful crew. Not only do we get a larger look into Cali, we also get to see Thrain and Bramble get some time in the spotlight. And as only T L Stone can do, we expand the crew from the confines of the village to the wide open sea, and find more family. Exploring threads of lost love, new adventure, and a few secrets known only to mermaids and sirens, join us for a new tale that will be sure to keep you captivated until the end.
This is another lovely cosy fantasy, and although it wasn’t quite like the others I still enjoyed reading it.
One thing I wasn’t expecting was how much I’d miss Wayside. Leaving the village and most of the characters I’d grown attached to, gave me a genuine sense of homesickness.
The book takes the story in a new direction, right onboard a sentient pirate ship with an all female crew. I enjoyed getting to go on a little adventure with Cali, even if I found myself wishing we could spend just a little longer back in Wayside.
Overall, this was a fun, heartwarming story with all the cosy vibes of the previous books. It’s definitely worth reading, I just have a soft spot for Wayside, it feels like home.
I received this arc for free and this review reflects my honest opinions.
I absolutely loved Potions, Pirates and Pie by TL Stone! I am a big fan of this series and this latest story is another winner! The cozy vibes and wonderful characters we have come to love were all present. The author also introduced a new hero, a pirate captain called Bonnie One-Eye.
Bonnie and her all female crew lead two of the tavern regulars, and Wayside residents, on an unforgettable journey. While this is a bit of a twist in the tavern series the charm of the village, the love of baked goods and the treasure that is home is all there.
This continues to be my favorite cozy fantasy series. I highly recommend!
I received an ARC for Potions, Pirates & Pie, and I am leaving my honest review. Thank you, T.L. Stone for sending me the ARC for your wonderfully whimsical story. I thrive off cozy fantasy like you wouldn’t believe. There is something about the call of a low-stakes adventure in a world of magic that draws me in every time, like sirens calling sailors to the shore (but make it fun and cosy). This tale was no different. There were pirates sailing the high seas in an all-female crew, an adorable racoon that helps bake the most delicious sweet treats that I am desperate to try, and a collection of loveable characters to take your hand and guide you through this story.
☾ What a charming and lovely book this was. There is so much joy and hope that oozes from these pages that acts as gentle waves rocking you back and forth to the cosiest slumber of your life. This book makes me so sad that I get seasick because I would join this all-female crew so fast. Bonnie captivated me from the start. I cannot blame Cali for being drawn to her, because put me in front of a commanding and alluring ship captain, with a sick eyepatch, and I would also be a goner. I won’t spoil it, but Bonnie’s story is full of legacy and love for her crew and family. What started as a love for the high seas falls into a quiet longing for something different, something more. This story speaks to the fact that just because you may be good at something, doesn’t mean that something is good for you. I think a lot of us can relate to that, and I think a lot of us will feel seen in Potions, Pirates & Pie.
☾ Cali’s story was so so cute! The way Cali yearns is enough to make my heart hurt for how soft, gentle but everlasting her love is. You would consider yourself very lucky indeed to be at the end of Cali’s affections. I love her journey through this story. She travels away from the adorable village of Wayside, and embarks not only on an expedition to help Bonnie retrieve her stolen boat, but back to herself as well. She learns a lot about who she truly is and what she has always longed for. Marvella was one of my personal favourite characters, and I imagine I could have spent hours helping her make delicious treats. All the characters in Potions, Pirates & Pie were heart achingly lovely. Well, maybe not ALL, but we all need villains. The word “villain” is doing a lot of heavy lifting here, as the antagonists are more of a slight nuisance, but this in of itself was entertaining and fun. There is a lot of heart to be found in these characters and these pages.
☾ My enjoyment was only inhibited slightly by the fact I didn’t know who some of these characters were. This is my issue and has nothing to do with Potions, Pirates & Pie itself. I will endeavour to go back and read the previous instalments, as I did love the warm and cosy themes. This book does work as a standalone as we do venture away from Wayside and its inhabitants, but whilst we were there I felt slightly lost, as I wasn’t familiar with the characters. I view this as a positive overall, as the book was sweet enough that I want to dive deeper into the lore. Potions, Pirates & Pie is a book that will be enjoyed by lovers of cosy fantasy all around. Its themes of found family and finding what makes your heart sing are beautiful. Prepare yourself though, make sure you have a delicious snack in hand whilst you read this, as all the wonderful descriptions of tasty treats will make you SO hungry!
Quotes: - “Piracy is no excuse for illiteracy.” - “Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light"
My synopsis After the mercenary hellkins who attacked Wayside were shipped off to seaport town Eldu, the Tail and Tavern crew are enjoying the peace and quiet again. Until pirate captain Bonnie One-Eye comes storming in with bad news - the hellkins stole one of her pirate ship's row boats and escaped into the Skittering Islands. With outlaw hideouts hidden in the maze of islands, it'll take some insider knowledge about the hellkins to track them down.
After being taken in by the mercenary hellkin's charm, Pantheri Cali is more than willing to make things right and share what she knows. Plus, she gets the chance to meet a real life pirate just like in the pirate romance books she loves. So when the opportunity comes for her to join the hunt onboard The Cruel Mistress ship, she readily agrees. As does burly dwarf Thrain who's determined to make things right with Cali again after he fell for the hellkin's charms, too. With an ocean adventure ahead, Cali sets off with Thrain, a stowaway racoon, and an enchanted pirate ship.
But it's not just the mercenary hellkins she hopes to find. Cali's searched across the Known Lands for her missing crewmate Adelaide who disappeared without a trace, leaving Cali nursing a broken heart and no sense of purpose. Will the Skittering Islands hold answer for all things lost?
My review While I love the little Wayside community, it was so fun to set out on an ocean adventure for a change of scenery and meet new characters!
I was so excited to read Cali's story, especially as she always felt left out in other character's stories. I'm so glad she got to have her own pirate romance, too.
I wasn't sure at first about Thrain being part of Cali's story, but he fit in well and I like how it set up his story for the next book. And I loved that raccoon Bramble was a stowaway! It was adorable how he became the pirate's kitchen assistant, although I'm glad he (and everyone else) returned to Wayside at the end. Because while I loved their adventure on the high seas, it was so good to return to the Wayside community.
As usual there were recipes for some of the treats featured in the book included for us to try. However, they felt like afterthoughts to the story, squeezed in at the very end.
With thanks to the Publishers and NetGalley for providing me with this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Trigger warnings: Abandonment, alcohol, grief, injury detail, murder, death
Thank you to T.L. Stone for sending me this ARC. I really enjoyed the other books in the Tales from the Tavern series and was very excited to read the next installment.
Overall I really enjoyed reading Potions, Pirates and Pie. I loved being able to learn more about Cali and get to see more sides of the pantheri archer and her interactions with Thrain as they both searched to find their purpose as well as look for redemption. Add an adorable baking raccoon to the mix and you can't really complain about this cozy adventure story.
The book was a bit slower for me in the beginning but managed to find its pacing more about halfway through the book. Then I was thoroughly invested in the world of pirates that was unfolding while seeing how Cali and Thrain grew as characters. Plus I really enjoyed the diverse crew of The Cruel Mistress and how it helped Cali to think beyond the romance books she loved so much and instead see that not everything was as she expected and instead needed to learn to trust and have an open mind to really see others for who the are really.
The change in setting also felt right for her journey, not only because of her love of pirates and adventure but also to help her be able to actually understand what she had gained in Wayside and finally be able to come to terms with not only the restlessness she had been feeling for so long but also her past that had been keeping her from being able to move on and really start living her life.
Definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys cozy fantasies and loves a story about friendship, loyalty and personal growth. Plus getting more interactions with Bramble was a great bonus.
I came across this series not long ago and read all the previous books in 3 days. I love the small village setting, diverse characters, touches of magic and fantasy, found family, and, of course, the baking. I enjoyed the books with my own cup of iced chai or Bengal Spice tea (like chai without the black tea) while sitting on the back porch under the umbrella. I felt like part of the Wayside family and wasn’t quite sure how I’d like the story stepping out of the village.
Turns out I was going on a fantastical adventure, too! I enjoyed getting to know Cali more. She is such a genuine character and I love that she is open to possibilities and goodness in the world. My unexpected favorite was The Cruel Mistress and I loved how they communicated together. I spent a lot of time in my garden this summer and it made me feel the way I feel when I talk to my plants and puppy. :) It’s too hot to bake right now, but look forward to trying out the recipes included in the book.
I was looking for a feel good escape from the real world. I found a fantasy world full of friendship, characters who embraced each other’s diversity and gifts, and just enough fantasy adventure to fuel my imagination. I definitely recommend this book…and all others in this series. I’m a big Hobbit and LOTR fan, so this cozy take was right up my alley.
Thank you to TL Stone for sharing this ARC with me. Thank you for writing these stories for all of us to share!
TL Stone is my go-to author for cozy fantasy with found family, adorable animals, delicious baked goods, small town vibes, and a dash of romance. Every story also includes a mouth-watering recipe to make at home! 𝘗𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴, 𝘗𝘪𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘴 & 𝘗𝘪𝘦 had all of these elements, along with something entirely new: a journey outside of Wayside.
Cali finds herself on a swashbuckling adventure remarkably similar to those pirate romance novels she has been reading, sailing the high seas with mermaids, sirens, and an all-female crew of pirates. 🏴☠️
I thoroughly enjoyed journeying with some of our regular crew aboard a very special ship and meeting new found family. Not only did we get to expand our map and knowledge of The Known Lands outside of Wayside, we also learned more about Cali's mysterious past. Her own personal journey was just as epic and poignant as the trip across the sea.
By the time the ship finally docked back in Eldu, I was just as eager as Cali to return to the comfort of Wayside and reunite with beloved friends. While the quest was exciting, there's nothing like the cozy vibes of the Tusk & Tail Tavern or Pip's bakery shop!
I highly recommend this novel and the reast of the Tales from the Tavern series to all lovers of cozy fantasy!
Many thanks to the author for providing me with an ARC of this wonderful story! 🏴☠️ 🥧 🦝
**Thank you so much to the author for the free eARC! I am leaving this review voluntarily.**
Let's start with what brought me here: a baking raccoon. I mean...seriously, a baking raccoon!
Toss in a vibrant, sentient ship, baking with a pirate crew, and a quest for a jolly boat (plus self discovery, most importantly), and you have Potions, Pirates & Pie. I am primarily a horror reader but I absolutely adore cozy fantasy as a palate cleanser, and this did not disappoint.
Although this is book 4 in a series, I found that the author did a great job bringing me up to speed just enough with the characters in this world. This book follows Cali, Thrain, and Bramble (the freaking baking raccoon) on their journey with Bonnie One Eye and her crew aboard the Cruel Mistress. I loved getting to know everyone and watch as their relationships unfolded.
While this book was mostly cozy and low stakes, I did love the different dangers encountered at sea with the mermaids and sirens. It balanced out the many calmer character interactions and food-related scenes in a way that made this book offer a bit of adventure and comfort combined. If you enjoyed Legends & Lattes and Can't Spell Treason Without Tea, you cannot go wrong with this series. 5/5, and I cannot wait to read the other 3 books (plus, there's a 5th in the works - yay!).
This was a very sweet and comforting cozy fantasy novel.
The characters are very endearing and relatable; they struggle with real emotional problems that most people can probably relate to. They are also witty and funny. It was truly a joy to experience all of the characters. The plot line was also enjoyable, and the romance elements were very cute.
My one major problem with this book is the way it is marketed. It is supposedly an "interconnected standalone" and you don't need to read the other books in the series. I would strongly disagree with this. This was my first T.L. Stone book and I was lost for most of it. The first chapter is very confusing and overwhelming. It introduces like 10 characters that you are supposed to be able to distinguish (they've all been introduced in previous books, so there is little to no explanation of them; youre supposed to already know who they are). Likewise, there is a lot of history that gets glossed over because it occurred in other books. This would be fine if it was basic background, but it is events that are crucial to understanding our main characters and their motivations.
All in all, this was a cute, fun read, but I would definitely NOT recommend reading it as a standalone. Read the rest of the series first.
I always look forward to T. L. Stone's next book, so getting this ARC was really a treat 🥰
Accompanying Cali on her own adventure was wonderful, especially as it was on a real pirate ship, and I think I've never read a pirate romance before. When I first read Triss' description, I was smiling so hard—the ship sounds truly amazing, and I would LOVE to see a ship this beautiful one day.
The chemistry between Cali and Bonnie was on point as well. In the stolen moments where it was just the two of them, I could really feel the sparks, even though neither of them acted on them. I was especially touched by Cali's bravery on her last evening on the ship and later by Bonnie's grand gesture. Those two are so cute together.
I also loved that Bramble had his own minor role, especially as Crumpet was sooo cute in the previous book. Bramble and Thrain really added fun to the story, and I loved the interactions between all the characters. I'm hoping that Thrain will be the main character of the next book.
And for those of us who love an adventure that's also sometimes dangerous, I can tell you that there are some really interesting scenes involving mermaids, sirens, and hellkins :))
I absolutely loved this book! Give me a cozy fantasy with pirates, adorable critters, and an unforgettable adventure, and I'm completely sold. From the very first chapter, I couldn't put it down because I had to see where the journey would take the crew next.
One of my favorite parts was the incredible cast of characters. An all-woman pirate crew? Yes, please! A sentient boat with plenty of sass? Even better! Every character brought something unique to the story, making the adventure feel fresh, fun, and full of heart. The witty dialogue and hilarious moments had me laughing out loud, while the cozy atmosphere made this the perfect comfort read.
The story strikes a wonderful balance between adventure, humor, friendship, and just a hint of romance. It left me smiling from beginning to end and reminded me why I love cozy fantasy so much. Honestly, this book was pure perfection for me. If you're looking for a heartwarming fantasy filled with pirates, magical charm, lovable characters, and an epic adventure, I can't recommend this one enough!
If you are looking for cozy fantasy that will also have you giggling at times...look no further than the Tales from The Tavern series.
Potions, Pirates, & Pies in book 4 in this series and it is just as amazing as the rest. Each book is about a different inhabitant of the Village of Wayside. With the story continuing from book to book.
This book follows Cali who is happy for the love and happiness her friends and family have found in Wayside however she is still looking for something.
I have loved Cali in all the books so I was so excited to get a book with her story. I admire her character dor taking on the task of hunting down a hellin that had tricked her while braving the seas on a pirate ship when she isn't a fan of water. Add a food happy dwaft, a racoon with a penchant for baking, and an all female crew full of all sorts of creatures along with a One Eye Pirate captain, and this book is a hallmark movie meets a rom-com meets girls night giggles.
While I have loved all of these books, Cali's story may just be my favorite.
"Sometimes we're so busy looking ahead that we dont take time to enjoy where we are."
Since coming to Wayside Cali has been craving another adventure. But when a stunning pirate walks through the inns front door, she knows shes in for something incredible.
Marina and the hellkins from the last book are still causing trouble and have stolen a boat from One-Eyed Bonnie. Because Cali and Thrain were caught up in her sceme last time, Bonnie invites them to come help find her boat. The adventure that ensues will change both of them in ways they couldnt have guessed.
I have enjoyed reading each book in the series and seeing how the world continues to expand as we learn more about each of the members of the original crew. I highly recommend reading the other books in the series before this one as there is a lot of back story that would be lost if you dont.
Thank you to the author for sending an ARC my way in exchange for an honest review.
Potions, Pirates & Pie was a fun addition to the Tales from the Tavern series. I liked getting Cali’s story and seeing her wrestle with wanting adventure while also having a home and people who matter to her. The mix of pirates, pastries, found family, and magical creatures worked well together and fit the feel of the series.
The tavern setting is still a big part of what makes these books enjoyable, and I liked the focus on relationships and figuring out where you belong. The romance was a good addition, and the pirate storyline brought some extra interest while still keeping the story focused on the characters. A good pick for anyone looking for a lighter fantasy read with friendship, baked goods, and a little adventure.
Thank you to T.L. for the advanced copy, this is my honest review.
Love this cozy romantic fantasy series that follows the unique crew of the Tusk & Tail Tavern. This is the story of Cali, a pantheri (unique panther/humanoid creature) archer and Bonnie One-Eye, a pirate and how a very low stakes adventure to find a jolly boat leads to Cali finding her place. Wayside is such a lovely small town with fascinating people and quintessential found family. I love ever story that takes place here.
Highlights: ✨Cozy Fantasy Romance ✨Low-stakes adventure ✨Unique creatures ✨Pirates ✨Found Family
Favorite Quotes: “Sometimes holding onto grief feels like protecting it. Like if you let it go, you’re letting go of the person too.”
“But destiny is all about the choices we make and the chances we take. Fate might shuffle the runes, but we play them.”
Thank you to the author for this advanced copy. My opinions are my own.
In previous Tales from the Tavern titles, Cali is an archer who can’t seem to decide what her next target is. Not to say she’s wishy-washy, but more she’s facing the challenge of having a specific set of skills from a life of adventuring that aren’t really transferable to living in a cozy village. She is one of those side characters who is dearly important to the MCs of the previous titles, but sticks out like a sore thumb. While we do see a little of plot-important action from her, it’s fairly well established that she’s a bit lost in Wayside. The only thing that keeps her busy (outside her friendships) is her raiding of Iris the apothecary’s stash of romance novels - especially the pirate ones.
Unsurprisingly, this made her a prime target for the villainous Marina to prey on in the last book, along with Thrain.
It also made her uniquely suited to an adventure three books in the making!
In the fourth instalment of Tales from the Tavern series, we leave the little town of Wayside behind. Cali and Thrain (with Bramble the baking assistant raccoon in tow) is on a mission for justice on the high seas! The pirate Captain One-Eyed Bonnie is in need of their aid, after Marina (who they were transporting to the mainland for legal reasons) has stolen her jolly boat.
We quickly learn that the theft of the jolly boat is a rather big deal. She (Jolli) is sentient, much like her mothership, The Cruel Mistress. The awareness of this rainbow pirate ship is a fiercely protected secret of her all-female crew, and so the joining of Cali, Bramble, and Thrain especially is particularly big exercise in trust.
Facing monsters like mermaids and sirens and Thrain attempting to cook, is the least of Cali’s problems. She’s hopeful to find her lost first love while on this journey, as she’s never attempted to search for her by ocean. This desire for healing starts to war with others however, when the friendship she shares with the artistically inclined and charismatic Bonnie might be blooming into something else.
I’m so glad in Cali’s entry to the series we got something wildly different from the typical genre setting. Her growth is perhaps the most marked of all the characters so far, and the focus on healing and new friendships harkens back to what makes cosy fantasies so popular. There’s also nothing quite so refreshing as putting a Pantheri on the open ocean for a bit of tension!
Review edited 31 August 2026
Original review, 13 August 2026: RTC - but mostly this was a very cozy pirate story and MARINA SUUUUUUUCKS
Thank you so much to the author for an eARC! I have been waiting for this installment in the series. I definitely missed the cozy vibes and this was a perfect cozy, summer adventure. I like that the characters got out of Wayside a bit and there were some new places and characters introduced. I definitely think the series needed that.
I’m glad we got to learn more about Cali and her past as she’s definitely been the character we know the least about. I also really enjoyed her friendship evolution with Thrain, and I always love an animal companion so the inclusion of Bramble on this adventure was great. I’m excited for the next adventure!
This is definitely my favorite of the Tales from the Tavern series so far. Cali has finally found a place to call home and a new found family. But after reading tons of pirate romance novels, she’s feeling restless like there is more out there for her…is she ready for more adventures?
I really loved seeing Cali get her spotlight and who doesn’t love pirates?? Bramble proving to be the best furry baking assistant and Thrain always there when his friends need him. This book had laughs, heartwarming moments, and even confronted heartbreak. And my favorite, the recipes!!!
Potions, Pirates, & Pies is the fourth in the cozy fantasy series, Tales from the Tavern. Cali’s adventure suits her so well! I loved getting to know the pantheri archer, her history, and her thoughts.
This story is a pirate adventure in the high seas, with mermaids and sirens (they’re different, did you know?) and a surprise fantastical being. It’s well written and keeps you engaged, while still being a light read. Can be easily read as a standalone, while reading the rest of the series adds depth to the context provided.
I would recommend for those looking for cozy fantasy with a dash of romance.
Four and a Half Stars - I think this book would be more appreciated having read at least one other book in this series to be able to easily follow the characters and their past experiences. However, this story is a bit different than the others at it takes place away from the quaint village of Wayside. Cali, who is enamoured of pirate romance novels, embarks on her own pirate adventure and comes away with more than she bargained for. The angst in this story is relatively low, but the entertainment value is high.
What an adventure!! I was so excited to read a book where we got to follow Cali more closely! And let’s be honest, your girl loves a pirate book! I was obsessed with this crew, this adventure and the amount of sweet moments that made me almost tear up was insane!! Whenever I’m feeling down the found family vibes in this series can always make me feel at home. Here’s to wishing I can wake up in Wayside myself tomorrow!!
She did it again! Another cozy adventure with my favorite magical cast of characters.
Though some reviews are disappointed by the change of scenery, I rather enjoyed the adventures on the high seas. The vibes are the same, regardless of the setting. A warm kitchen, the hint of underlying romance, a brief encounter with danger, book 5 in the series has it all.
I can't wait to see what T.L. Stone has in store for Thrain in book 6. It's about time he finds his purpose!
Another lovely addition to the Tales from the Tavern series! This one has a change of scenery from the charming village we've come to love and has us sailing the high seas with an all-female pirate crew! A little adventure, a slight bit of romance, all ingredients for the perfect recipe for a charming cozy fantasy!
Cali leaves Wayside to help a pirate Captain get back the Jolli boat that prisoners stole when they escaped. Cali finds answers to long lost romance that ended to soon and realizes where she belongs. Plus mermaids sirens and a whole crew of female pirates add up to a great adventur.
4/5 Cali is restless and ready to get out of Wayside for some adventure. After a few hiccups in the last book her and Thrain find themselves after an old foe. They join a crew of notorious pirates with more than a few secrets. Good fun! Enjoyed getting out of Wayside and meeting some new characters. And now I need to wait for the fifth book. 🤷♂️
This was such a fun little cozy adventure! I really love these characters! Despite this story having a trope I'm not a fan of, it was done very very well, and this still may actually be my favorite story of this series so far! Absolutely delightful with a perfect ending!
