The way this was promoted on tiktok made me want to read it. Don’t blame me, it was interesting at first. My mistake, because this is so freaking bad.
The writing is terrible. I feel like I could have written this story better with the characters having an actual personality, a plot that unfolds through the chapters, and answers to the repetitive questions of the main character. All that I’ve mentioned? You won’t see it on this book.
There are so many repetitive words that at first I understood because it was supposed to establish the “personality” of the character. But I don’t have to read this same exact words in every chapter! Someone please tell the author to expand her vocabulary so she doesn’t end up repeating the same words over and over again!
This is such a drag. I was already 78% in and the supposed progress in the story that’s supposed to answer questions is still not there? All we get is dragons reacting? Which by the way happens every chapter of the book.
Characters are like stale bread.
Can’t even identify who’s talking.
World building is nonexistent.
This book does not need editing. It needs to be REWRITTEN.
OH, and by the way, this is supposed to be a duology and I refuse to suffer again.

Okay. I really liked the concept, but the way this is written. Oh. My. God. Every sentence is a new line, I might hate the word “honestly” now, the amount of unnecessary snark and sass. I realllyyy liked the plot concept but man I don’t know if I could read book 2 if it’s written in the same way

It was such a good concept and started off so strong. It's just so badly written I had to DNF at 63%. Like the dialogue was actually insufferable and made no sense at all.
The FMC would ALWAYS make an unfunny "panicked" joke and say "fair" or "justified" or "reasonable" when the other person responded. Literally every single time.

Damn! This book grabs your attention and doesn't let go. All the sarcastic comments make you laugh. The hatchling is sweet, loving, mean and also sarcastic all on the same page. Nerys is a very unlikely heroine who bonds with the hatchling. She is now wanted by the crown for the audacity of the bonding. Kyros is the unlikely hero. Military commander turned traitor when he chooses Nerys over crown and duty.

A good read with a story that focuses more on the fantasy than romance. I do hope the romance gets explored a little more in the next book because I’m definitely looking forward to seeing where these characters and their relationship go. Though not without its imperfections, I still enjoyed it and I’m looking forward to the next one!

It’s a good start but I also feel like I’ve learned nothing I understand that the higher ups in the story are not going to explain anything to the main character straight away but it almost feels like the author hasn’t decided what the plot is going to be yet and is avoiding the question…

It’s a good idea. But honestly? It seems like it was written by AI. Every single chapter is the same thing, the dragons react, the baby dragon tries to get out of her coat, suddenly everything is “fair” or “reasonable”. There’s nothing actually happening that contributes to the actual story. Would not recommend.

The dragon hatchling was adorable and chaotic and I loved watching fmc slowly become attached to it. The fact that it bonded with her so quickly made me wonder if there could be a connection to her father. I’m also really hoping to see Kyros and Nerys's relationship develop more in book 2.

I really like the concept but it was hard to get past the repetitive one liners from the FMC. Almost DNFd but I wanted to see where it went. I would probably read the second if there is a change in some of the writing style!

I really liked the concept and the direction the story took, especially toward the ending. Some parts felt a little repetitive, and the pacing slowed down in places. Still, I enjoyed the story and I’m looking forward to book 2.

I really enjoyed this one! Nerys was such an easy character to root for. The ending was a good cliffhanger. The Crown is now hunting Nerys and Kros and I think that could pave the way for book 2. I'm giving it 4 stars because even though I enjoyed the characters, dragons, mystery, and their slow-building relationship, there were a few places where the pacing felt repetitive. But overall, it was a fun fantasy read with a lot of potential for the next book.

It was a bit different from what I usually read, but was a refreshing change from all the smut that usually appears in fantasy romance. Overall a fun fantasy with dragons, found family and political intrigue.

I really liked Nerys, especially her sarcastic comments. She was probably my favorite part of the book. I do wish we’d gotten a little more from Kyros’s perspective, though.
