This is a beautiful book, and I’d recommend this to any and every believer. I’ve been studying the Biblical prophecies for a few years now, and have enjoyed Joel’s various books and videos teaching on them. Usually his material is fairly academic and detail-oriented, which I love. This book, however, is written in a very accessible way, so that even older teens could read and grasp it.
Gospel of the Skull Crusher takes you on a journey that begins in Genesis 3:15, the Protoevangelion. In this mother-prophecy, God tells the end from the beginning. He promises a saviour, who will be from the seed of the woman, who will be struck by the seed of the serpent, but who will eventually crush the serpent’s head forever. While most Christians are familiar with this promise, most, like me, have no idea how powerfully this exact theme is reiterated throughout Scripture. Starting in Eden and moving through history, the serpent always raises its head in the form of yet another proud and wicked pagan king, and every time, God crushes him. The entirety of redemption past and future rests on this first promise, which is retold and expanded and clarified over and over throughout the Word of God.
This book is a profound resource showcasing the powerful thread of Messianic and Kingdom promises throughout the entire Bible. By going through each prophecy, famous or forgotten, we see a beautifully rich and detailed picture of our future hope being painted right in front of us. Much like Jesus would have explained to the two disciples on the road to Emmaus, showing them how the various Messianic themes and ideas were all fulfilled through him, Gospel of the Skull Crusher lays out the continuity of God’s promises regarding Jesus and His future kingdom on the earth.
The more I see the wealth the Scriptures have to offer showing us what exactly we are saved unto, the more I look forward to and wait with eager anticipation for our inheritance in Christ.
