About the author

Sarah Webb is an award-winning children’s writer. Her books include Blazing a Trail: Irish Women who Changed the World (illustrated by Lauren O’Neill) and A Sailor Went to Sea, Sea, Sea: Favourite Rhymes from an Irish Childhood (illustrated by Steve McCarthy), both winners of Irish Book Awards.

Sarah also runs creative writing clubs for children and teens, reviews children’s books for the Irish Independent, and programmes children’s and family events for book festivals and MoLI (Museum of Literature Ireland). She also works part-time in a children’s bookshop.

Sarah is passionate about bringing children and books together and was awarded the Children’s Books Ireland Award for Outstanding Contribution to Children’s Books in Ireland.
Her latest book, The Little Beekeeper of Henrietta Street (illustrated by Rachel Corcoran) was published in 2021.

OK, I've only just started reading this and I'm feeling quite disappointed so far. Mollie seems really sarcastic, hard to please, etc. So I don't really like her character that much.

I read Sunny Days and Moon Cakes before reading this (I didn't know which came first) and I really liked it. It was emotional, heart-warming and overall not a bad book.

However, I haven't read much of this yet so don't judge me, this book seems pretty disappointing. I expected it to be much better as I enjoyed the other book so much. But this book makes me think, Mollie's friends with Sunny and everyone else, right? I mean, Sunny seems kind, perhaps slightly optimistic, so I can understand her having friends and being kinda popular. But Mollie? As soon as she arrived on Little Bird Island she seemed disgusted. Pretty offensive to the island, right? I honestly don't know how anyone could like her. She truly seems to be a pretty spoilt, selfish, uncaring girl. And I thought everyone on the island was nice?!

I may not finish this book as it's so disappointing. But then again, my opinion may change when I read more. Overall, sorry to disappoint, but keep writing books on Sunny. XD

This is a lovely book for age 9+ readers, the first in a series by Sarah Webb. I love that the stories are set on an island in West Cork, with likeable characters, believable plots, and easy writing style with subtle depth. I will be getting the series for my niece when she's a little older, and I recommend this as a delicious confection! (There's even a recipe for the cupcakes on Sarah's website!)
