The Villainess Route Is Broken #2

The Villainess Route Is Still Broken: A Cozy Isekai Romantasy

Rate this book
Getting exiled should be getting easier. Somehow it keeps getting harder.

Dara's plan was working perfectly—or it was supposed to be. The roads are progressing. The money is flowing out exactly as intended. But instead of disgrace, she's accidentally becoming Ambervale's most innovative leader. Which means it's time to escalate: introduce boba to a medieval world (purely for personal comfort, obviously), continue throwing money at increasingly ambitious projects, and expand her network of useful criminals because apparently running a district requires navigating the underworld too. The usual villainess activities.

Except someone keeps interfering with her district—sabotaging supplies, spreading rumors, making her projects harder than they should be. Which means Dara needs to understand Ambervale's underworld herself: the corruption networks, the debt chains, the men who control what happens beneath the surface. Her morally flexible security team proves useful for this, but navigating criminal politics while maintaining her reputation as a frivolous noble turns out to be significantly more complicated than building roads. And when your closest ally turns out to be the Crown Prince in disguise, the mission to achieve exile in disgrace becomes exponentially more difficult—especially when he keeps looking at you like you're solving problems instead of creating them.

Sometimes the harder you try to fail, the more successful you accidentally become.

This was disappointing. The pacing is very slow and the resolution is sudden and empty. The staccato prose at moments of just waiting make for a tedious read. The romantasy descriptor is patently misleading and the love interest is useless. I don't know what happened between book one and two but it is a significant drop in quality.

Fun

A fun read. Though, the books would benefit from some more editing. Phrases, sentences, even entire conversations are used over and over again. It's sometimes better to skim than to read in detail.

way too much repetition in vocabulary, sentence structure, and plot.

Singular Voice

It’s a good time, but repetitive. There’s no difference between Dara and Valarious’(?) point of view, in terms of language or flow, which was a little odd.
