What the HELL was this writer and all the snowflakes with their 5 star reviews smoking? I mean it. I want to know because all these reviews with “This one will break your heart, the storyline is awesome and the characters capture your heart and you won’t be able to stop reading” have to have some braincells missing or were high as a kite to even say that. This so-called "awesome” story has not one single thing that can back that shit up!

The only thing you have here is an irredeemable MMC who not only cheats on his wife for the entire fucking story (both book 1 & 2) as he is in love with OW and having sex with both FMC & OW on Book 1 and considers the place where he stashed the OW his “home”. There’s no romance between FMC & him at all. Not in Book 1 or 2. He regrets nothing. Not even forcing sex on FMC which I would consider an act of rape!

He doesn’t pick FMC btw for anyone who is curious. Not even in the end when he learns she had his kid. He fucks her again in the present time and she gets pregnant with kid #2 and only leaves OW when she is made evil in order for him to pick FMC. And believe me, if how he treated the FMC from beginning to end is “love” or “romance”, I would like to offer a piece of advice to these so-called “writers” to seek help STAT. You need a psychiatrist dearies. I mean it. I’m worried about you. Please seek other employment or hobbies because writing (romance especially) is not your forte.

One star only because I need this review to be counted to show how damn awful this is. Don't even want to give it anything, but GR has a tendency to mark my non-star reviews as 5 and no way in hell will I allow them to do so in this one!

Worst book I’ve ever read

I don’t even know where to start. The fact that a single female reader was ok with this story blows my mind. This was a physical and emotionally abusive man who was intimate with both a wife and a mistress. Didn’t care about their health, then used his wife in every way possible. And the wife finally left. But what happened while she was gone? He stayed with s for another five years and then the second he showed up where she had started new life mistress showed up and she started wanting her husband again.

Again this is the biggest doormat and most abusive husband without raising his hand. Will never read this author again.

Do I read mafia romances usually? Nope
Do I read mafia romances where its not even clear the mmc is in the mafia but there are just some concepts of Mafia life? Typically no.

And this book contains all the reasons why I dont read mafia romance usually ( I have dipped my toes into the trope though..Cora Reilly and LJ Shen plus a few others)

💋 Age Gap Romance: An adult with a ton of secual experience marrying a innocent, virginal teenager.

💋 Violence for no reason. Breaking fingers and necks.people dissapearing

💋 A doormat heroine who does at moments stand up for herself but then goes right back to the exact same life that she escaped from. He makes minimal changes to himself or his lifestyle.

💋 Mistresses getting the best parts of the hero and the heroine getting scraps. The heroine just has to smile look pretty and just take the scraps of when the hero wants her intimately.

💋 The heroine turning into a baby making factory on the rare occasions that they do the horizontal
mambo.

💋 Non- con sex being represented as the hero " wanting" or " showing love" for the heroine 🤢 🤕

So this book has all of thst..so why was I a o fascinated to finish it and rated it 4 stars? Maybe im a sucker for the drama?

I find nothing redeemable about Hunter. He is a terrible person and I kept hoping Chloe would kill him. Alas, she does not. Maybe in the sequel...

Too much of a zero…

The ML is a complete and total failure as a Hero for practically the entire book. I am not impressed with him in any way, and if left on his own, he clearly has horrible taste in women when you look at his trashy, classless mistress.

The FL isn’t too bright but some of that was naivety. She was barely 19 when they married.

The mistress is basically a prostitute… she’s awful, and again she’s trashy and has no class. He bought her tits, for Pete’s sake!

I want this over with, so I’m going to book two and skim as fast as I possibly can.

No thanks!

It started off well, and then along the way it became repetitive. There is zero chemistry between the MMC and FMC, he even assaults her which he doesn't acknowledge at all. Unfortunately I DNF. There was too much going on, but at the same time.. not enough. It didn't flow and felt as if it kept jumping from one scene to the next without really going into detail.

Disappointing read overall.

Seems like a good series

I gave this book 3 stars because it ends in a cliffhanger and drags on too long. Female characters are weak women who allow this one man to use them both. Otherwise this book had potential.

Heartless

This was a really good book! The characters were really believable and well developed. The plot was multilayered and held your interest to the very end. I can't wait to start the second book.

My kind of book. The h and H enter into a marriage of convenience for business purposes. The H has a mistress/OW who sends the h a video of the OW and H having sex on the h's wedding night. The H is cruel, cold and distant and considers his apartment with the OW his home. Skip forward two years and the h decides she can't live like this anymore. She manages to escape with a new identity. The h is not a very likable character up to this point. She is young and innocent and naive. The H's caring treatment of the OW finally destroys the stars in her eyes for the H. Five years later the H tracks the h down but she is not alone . OW drama is high level. The H has dangerous enemies. The h and H continually spar and argue. It ends on a cliffhanger with many complications that make me want to continue with book 2.

How did it get so many stars

I dont know how this book got so many stars I would give to negative star if I could. It jumped around from one scene to the next to the point of it not making any senses. One scene wouldn't even be done before it started another one. And it kept hinting of violence but then not have any. So still have no idea if the guy is abusive are just pissed off all the time. I couldn't finish the book to be fair so maybe it gets better I only made maybe about half way before i called it quits. I dont how kindle got stars for this one..Don't waste your time on this one

just no

I can’t believe this is a 2 very long book read. It is beyond corny. I am not going to even attempt to read part 2. The FMC is one of the most annoying characters I’ve ever read.

No HEA - don't buy it

You would think after 415 pages there would be a happy ending. But no. The storyline isn't even that good... Just two idiots with anger issues being mean to each other. Buy a different book. Even Dr. Seuss would be better.

horrible

The story is so hard to follow along the MMC doesn’t care about the FMC at all. Literally the whole relationship is a joke and there are so many holes. It’s worse than Swiss cheese.

I couldn’t follow along at all.

Hard to finish

It was hard to finish this book. It was all over the place characters would suddenly be there but not sure where they came from. I was hoping for it to get better so kept reading but it just fell flat and hard to follow.

This was a hot mess and just absolute 💩

The written dialogues between characters are so ridiculous and redundant at times. It makes me wonder if this was initially written in another language and then had chaptgpt translate to English.

At one point I was thoroughly confused as the FMC was at a country club speaking with a man she was ‘investigating’ for a journalism work assignment and it went from a paragraph of her responding to a question to the next paragraph the MMC asking her a question and she was in a car with him? It was as half the chapter glitched out and it went straight to the next chapter.🫣😅🫠

It was a clear DNF as it was a mess and a joke.
Save your time and money. 💸

Wanted something mindless, I guess it served. Pure, unadulterated, high-voltage drama. I don't think I like this brand of Heartless. I might read the next one just to see if he redeems himself.

Review for Book 1 and Book 2

I am glad I found this duet on June 5th so that I could jump into book 2 today, the release date. The story is really engaging and emotionally gripping. I can reread it many times or listen to it again if it's enhanced with human voices (Dual or Duet version), which can attract more listeners.

In Book 1, the writing is closed-door, with zero 🌶️ and minimal sexual references, leaving many details out and confusing the reader. For example, if Chloe were a virgin and Hunter were faithful to his mistress, all mouthy, making sure Chloe did not harbor any false expectations from him, my question is: when did they collide with intimacy? 🤔How did it happen? How did Hunter feel about the fact that Chloe was a naive virgin girl in love with him? Her inner monologue lets you notice that he was coming back to her bed sporadically, then leaving again for the other woman. So I assumed he was either attracted to her or developing feelings 🤔.
The main plot,
A young Chloe willingly entered an arranged marriage to win Hunter’s heart. Her father manipulated Hunters with promises for his political campaign to ensure he could marry Chloe. Hunter was already in love with the OW, Eva, and felt manipulated. Consequently, he treated Chloe with deliberate cruelty, also making sure she knew about his love for Eva, leaving Chloe emotionally devastated for over two years.

Eventually, Chloe grew tired and found a way to take revenge 💪on Hunter. 🛑No spoiling further. Her actions led to a five-year separation from Hunter, who eventually tracked her down🦮 and set out to live with her daughter in one of his apartments. Not in the main house, because Eva made it her home after Chole's departure to officially claim her relationship with Hunter and continue their HEA, completing an eight-year love story (almost a decade, LOL).

With Chloe back, I enjoyed Hunter's dilemma about the two women and his daughter, plus there were some twists and turns, with major devastating revelations plus threats, that ended on a cliffhanger for the second book.

I couldn’t stop reading and listening, and I hoped for the second part to show a strong Chloe, not a doormat.

Book 2, the verdict, (gosh, I am glad I waited only hours for this release!) Open-door with🌶️
The book began with the aftermath of the event that led to the cliffhanger. 🛑No spoiling. In this aftermath, Chloe and Hunter got closer and became pregnant again. The story had a lot of family drama involving Chloe's brother, Logan, and his wife, Liliy. Also, her mom and the daughters. On the other hand, Hunter's focus was on rebuilding his empire, eliminating threats, punishing some brats, and most importantly, winning Chloe back.

Were you expecting a groveling and redemption arc? Yes!!! Unfortunately, did not happen, because Hunter is an alpha male who always got what he wanted, making him another unredemebale hot mafia male. His groveling was in a full forced proximity, leaving Chloe no choice but to take him back. As she repeatedly said, she needed to find "a common ground" between Hunter and her daughters since he was determined to stay in her life. Gosh! I could have killed him! LOL... But, in a second thought about his skillful hands and beautiful physique, I think the past was easily a closed case LOL!

PS: Could part 1 be edited to include more details about the first two years of Chloe and Hunter's relationship? Specifically, was Hunter developing feelings for Chloe during those intimate moments? Just scatter some chapters from Hunter/Chloe's POV to help the readers better understand their emotional journey. Perhaps he was falling in love, but his stubbornness led him to make more mistakes (only sharing my reader's thought).

Nope

I truly tried. Tried to really get into it. Nope. The characters were actually awful. I truly didn't care what happened to either one. Chloe was a spineless moron. Honestly couldn't do anything. I'm genuinely surprised she survived 5 years without needing someone to help her at every turn. Hunter was as worthless a human being as there ever was. He had NO likable attributes. He was clearly a moron too based on everything he allowed with Eva. It was beyond obvious how calculated she was at every turn but he couldnt figure out SHE was the snake?! Literally no one in this book was worth reading about. I had to make myself continue. Then there was the complete lack of any believability in so man things! Diana was 4 talking like she was at least 10. She was in a carseat but then she was getting herself around like a middle schooler. All these security measures but no one saw anything when things went south?! Her mom was so worried she had a heart attack but never lifted a finger to help her when she got back? Nevermind all the blaring editing errors. Bold type for no reason randomly added in. The contradiction of almost every aspect was beyond stupid and I literally feel mad at myself for finishing this book at all. What a waster of time. I never rate books below a 2 star. This was a special kind of stupid.

No - read book 1 without realizing it was a duet. Will not be reading book 2. It wasn’t clear how they went from arranged marriage and I’m staying with my mistress to sleeping with my wife and OW at the same time, having the nerve to be upset with OW, lying to her about sleeping with his wife. Chloe was the other woman not Eva. They had to make OW evil to make him dumping her ok, it still wasn’t. BTW blowjob is cheating. He actually said he couldn’t turn it down even though he knew he was dumping her.
I’m a HR fan and usually stay away from contemporary romance (mafia is different lol). This is my second recently and i didn’t realize that there was an actual genre for real cheating and second chances. He had no remorse and was mad when he got called out. No more, it gives romance a bad name.
I don’t give books a star because i don’t think it’s fair to one star a book because i don’t like the trope.

DNF at 50%. I usually really enjoy messy stories like this. I don't mind a cheating trope once I can see consequences on the horizon, but let me tell you. I hated every single character in this story, and you may think, well, what the baby do, but it's the baby too.

The FMC was insufferable; I think this has to be the pettiest and most naive character I have ever had the displeasure of reading. To throw your family under the bus just so you could "escape" is stupid, especially after you chased this man that did not want to marry you. You knew what it was.

And OMG the MMC was just despicable, sir, please go play in traffic. I don't know if the author was going for dominating, but he was simply 'abusive' to everyone.

Anyway, hate it. Gave it a star for being a trope I like and another for not being AI at least.

*** spoilers I read a lot of the reviews. Those slating it almost stopped me reading. But I decided to read couple chapters and I’m glad I did. Is it best book I’ve read no. However, it’s def not worse. It’s not like critics described. The fmc knew mmc had a gf but still wanted him. Father & mmc made a marriage arrangement mmc wasn’t aware fmc didn’t know wot terms were til wedding night. Was he cruel yes. Cud he have been kinder yes, but I believe he blamed her for being put in them circumstances (was it fair no but kinda understandable to some degree).

Wasn’t really cheating when it was marriage of convenience. Yes he slept with his wife too but what bloke wouldn’t if offered. Is the bloke cruel and unreasonable yes. But he does redeem himself I believe, and develop feelings for his wife. And soon realises his gf (of 8 yrs) was cruel and only after him for his money.

Cliffhanger

Hunter & Chloe’s story is fast paced with plenty of drama, action, kidnapping, humiliation, betrayal, mental abuse, arranged marriage amnesia, obsession abortion, lies, deceit and cruelty.
Hunter made an arrangement with Chloe’s father to marry his daughter for power, connections, and money. She married Hunter for love not knowing about any agreement. Hunter spent his wedding night and every night thereafter with his beloved mistress after telling Chloe he doesn’t and never will love her.
Hunter has no feelings for Chloe only his pregnant mistress.
He humiliates Chloe horribly, mentally abuses her, flaunts his mistress and keeps a tight control over Chloe until she finds a way out.
The story is interesting not boring but, I hate cliffhangers. Would recommend.

Hot Garbage

This is terrible. I thought it was written by AI until I noticed the spelling and grammatical errors. The mmc was never redeemed and was kind of pathetic. The storyline so choppy, it really felt like the author just tried to throw anything at the wall to make it stick. Won’t be reading the next book unless it’s a book on how Chloe gets her revenge by killing Hunter.

Don't like her or him

Spoilers

Really couldn't stand her. You husband is cheating on her. You got pictures and videos of them having sex. But you still beg him for sex and love him. Gross.

She does tooooo many dumb things.

He is big bad man but gets played but a girl. He knows all but knows nothing. He didn't do back ground check, didn't get doctors confirmation about anything his lover told him.

hits all requirements

This book part1 started off great and finished great, can’t wait to start part 2. All the parts that make up an excellent read, perfect fmc, the perfect villain side chick and the beginning of the redemption of the mmc. First time reading the author and will be looking forward to checking out more novels from her! I’m just disappointed that this book is not available in actual paperback, 😩😩😩😩to buy!

What a train wreck!!

This seemed long and drawn out... the mmc cheats throughout the whole book (cheats on the wife with the mistress and the mistress who he apparently loves with the wife), he is a aggressive a-hole... absolutely nothing redeemable about him, no chemistry between the mcs... and the fmc is so naive, isn't she supposed to be a journalist... you would think she would have some common sense!
This book also need a good editor... it's jumpy and doesn't flow.

Good Story. Moves a Little Slow

Enjoying the book except around page 400 I was feeling impatient. Parts of the book just had too many words and the irritation was building. Randomly skipped pages to accelerate. Don't think I missed much. Strong writing. Good story to great with editing.
