I fought my way onto the boys’ lacrosse team when I was sixteen, and learned how to survive high school under a microscope. Not much has changed all these years later now that I’m varsity’s head coach at my old school. I’m still proving I belong, refusing to be quiet, and dealing with parents who think the job should’ve gone to a man.

One specific man.
My high school rival.
And JV’s new head coach.

Landon Fletcher was the all-star golden boy who couldn’t handle being outshined by a girl. I thought my days of sharing the field with him were over. But now, we’re sharing more than glares and insults. The forced proximity of coaching on the sidelines together brings up old feelings, and a past we never healed from.

The more time we spend together, the harder it becomes to ignore what's always been there.
What's still there.

And when I find myself at the center of a scandal that threatens my career and all I’ve worked for, I’m forced to lean on the man I never thought I could.

Trusting my rival means throwing out the play book...
And hoping he won’t let me fall.

*Sideline Rivals is Book 1 is an interconnected standalone in the Sideline Series. It’s an open-door, rivals-to-lovers, sports romance that ends with a HEA.

Review:
Kristen Granata, only you can make me cry over a sport that I know absolutely nothing about!!

Ainsley and Landon were high school friends turned rivals, playing on the same lacrosse team. After things go bad in their senior year, they lose contact until Landon returns home to help care for his mother. Landon ends up coaching the JV girls lacrosse team while Ainsley coaches the varsity girls lacrosse team. Sparks start flying immediately but will their high school trauma hold them back from reconnecting?

The banter between the two main characters was written extremely well. Even though they had mixed feelings about each other at the beginning of the story, I loved that they were able to put aside their high school angst and work together to help their teams.

This story is full of open communication, acceptance, and second chance love! Extremely well written and highly recommended!!

I love all of Kristen’s books, but somehow they just keep hitting deeper every single time.

This story was inspiring, emotional, and full of fun banter. It gave us enemies-to-lovers, a second chance romance, and two incredible coaches who truly cared about their girls.

Ainsley is strong, driven, and an amazing role model, even while carrying the hurt Landon left behind. Landon returns hoping to make things right, and their bickering was absolutely flawless. The chemistry, tension, and growth between them had me hooked.

Their love story, the way they poured into their teams, and the message of healing and second chances made this such a beautiful read. I absolutely adored every minute of it.

Amazing LBBTQ+ Rep - so incredible and loved how it was played out in the storytelling. Kristen does it so beautifully every single time💗

Sideline Rivals is Book 1, a standalone in the interconnected Sideline Series where we follow former highschool teammates turned coaches. Smashed the Rivals to Lovers trope, two fiercely competitive athletes, the banter, sexual innuendos and Landon' thighs!

Kicks off with a dedication that sets the tone of this book.

Watching Ainsley open up, change her perspective made for a beautiful character arc. As the dual time lines played out you saw glimpses of what hardened her, but why she was such a spit fire and wouldn't be quieted. To have Ainsley as a friend means you have a fierce ally who will not quietly stand by and watch injustice.

The same goes for Landon, he had a rough start to life that no one saw, they only saw the Golden Boy. Despite this he grew to be a compassionate young man and empathy was his super power. The acts of love, the little attention to details, Landon is a swoonable green flag mc with a dirty mouth.

Thank you old house and bad plumbing.  Smiling, ready for the...and dam Gus, with the poor timing. Ahh, ma'am she likes to edge us a little with this one, but so hot the build up.   Consent is where it is at and Landon wants Ainsley to want him. I love how playful and physical they are with each other. Reverted to their missed childhood flirting and fun. The team photo scene, PERFECTION.
The side characters all played a huge part in Ainsley life. I especially loved the old fart Bernard as her neighbour. Evan, me thinks you are next buddy.

I was expecting a third act break up with how skittish Ainsley was and was so PLEASANTLY surprised. The third act drama wasn't a break up it was something that pulled them together solidified them as a team. Loved how the coaches where there for the athletes in more ways than lacrosse. Made me think of my favourite gym teacher, she listened and talked, provided a safe space.

In a time where trans (queer) rights are being stripped, THIS is a story I want to read. To read about allyship, in a book and see how society, community, friends and family should come together and support each other was hopeful. This is how it should be. Finding stories with queer and trans joy, featuring community and family support is a impactful way to push back against censorship and legislative hostility.
Mixed in with Ainsley lifelong struggle with female inequality in sports.  Did I tear up a little with the stand the lacrosse team took? Yes, yes I did.   OK then I balled a few pages later.

It’s a beautifully told, compelling story that not only highlights the systemic barriers female athletes face but also celebrates resilience, queer identity, loss, forgiveness and family doesn't need to bound by blood.

And you know your limits, so read the author's content warnings. I received a copy of this book from Kristen Granata, and this is my honest review.

If you’re looking for a sports romance (lacrosse!) with tension, yearning, and banter that leaves you smirking and kicking your feet, then you need to read this book! Kristen is so spot on with a strong, fierce FMC who knows she’s just as good as the boys and can do anything they can do. This book was so fun, quick and easy to read, and definitely had me thinking about these characters when I wasn’t able to read.

Ainsley is one badass babe! She can dish it out just as much as she can take it, but also has such a caring heart. She knows she’s just as good as the boys, but knows things aren’t always fair when it comes to being equals. Landon is the one who keeps her on her toes. These two have history, and when they’re faced with being coaches together, all the past comes rushing back. And let me just say, these two know all the right buttons to push when it comes to the other. They had me laughing and giggling at their come backs to each other. And the tension? Oh it was electric and flirty — you could feel it radiating off the pages! But these two are destined to be together, and finally when they get their f-it moment, all seems right in the world. Their chemistry is just on fire! They complete each other in the best ways. Landon sure has a little filthy mouth, and I am totally ok with it! And when Ainsley needs to have a supporter in her corner, there’s no one who shows up in a big way other than Landon. It is a full circle for them with a HEA!

This does have some heart aching moments with family and real world issues, but I think Kristen writes it so beautifully and makes it so relatable.

And another bonus to this book is we get to see what Ainsley and Landon were like back in high school. The flash back chapters were so insightful and I loved seeing what their relationship was like when they were in high school compared to know that they’re older and coaching together at the same high school.

Overall a great start to this sports romance series! I can’t wait for the next book.

Thank you SO much Kristen for the chance to ARC read this book! These are my honest opinions.

I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest review.

Kristen’s books just hit differently. I don’t know what she puts in them, but every single time I finish one, I just sit there wondering how she made me care that much about fictional people.

Ainsley and Landon? Absolute perfection. Their banter had me kicking my feet one minute and glaring at my Kobo the next. They’re both fiercely competitive, stubborn as hell, and so passionate about their teams that you can’t help but root for them, especially when they’re getting on each other’s nerves. And honestly? Their rivalry made them better people. That’s my favourite kind of competition.
Also, can we appreciate characters who actually communicate? Sure, they took a hot minute to get their heads out of their asses (especially Ainsley), but once they did, they talked. No unnecessary drama, no ridiculous misunderstandings dragged out for half the book. Just two adults figuring things out. Revolutionary, I know.

One thing Kristen does so well is tackling difficult topics without making the story feel heavy. The sexism in sports was portrayed in a way that felt frustratingly real, and I absolutely loved that Landon wasn’t just “one of the good ones”. He actively showed up and used his voice. We need more men like this (in real life and in books).
And, as always, the LGBTQIA+ representation was beautifully done. At this point I’ve accepted that Kristen is going to make me cry every single book, and honestly? I’m okay with it. Everyone deserves an Ainsley in their corner.

Before I go, can we take a moment to appreciate how ridiculously attractive it is when a man is cocky and actually has the skills to back it up? Landon knew exactly how good he was, never apologized for it, and somehow still wasn’t arrogant. And the confidence? The way he just knew Ainsley wasn’t getting over him? Ugh. A man who shows up, delivers every single time, and has the confidence to match? How is this fair?

4.5⭐️ // 2.5🌶

Sideline rivals, a steamy, sports, 'friends to rivals to lovers' romance between coaches of the varsity and JV coach of the female lacrosse teams at a highschool.

Ainsley always stayed close to home after highschool, now being a math teacher and coach at said school. As the first ever girl playing the boys team in her teens, she knows how politics and school regulations work and how there still is a big gender inequality in sports. She gives everything she got to those girls, in big contrast to her personal life where she keeps everyone at armslength. Losing both parents at a young age, and then Landon too, she is done with getting hurt due to people leaving.

When Landon shows up as the new JV coach, old wounds resurface. Landon and Ainsley used to be close, very close. That is until Ainsley joined the boy teams and they turned into rivals. They parted ways after graduation hating each other, and spoke again. Now they need to work together closely. Using time jumps, Granata wove the past events that broke them apart into the story with a impeccable precission keeping us on invested.

This book was a first for me from Kristen Granata, but will definetly not the last. The story had depth, great character built, tackles hard topics and has the best side characters from a 80+ neighbor to the teens of the teams. Important life lessons are woven through a funny and sweet story, the dynamics between adults and teens enlightning and the balance between different perspectives was just right. The sport is a asset to the story yet not heavy to follow for those unfamiliar with the sport. A re-freshing, enjoyable romcom done right.

This is the first lacrosse book I have read and I really enjoyed it. Such a good romance story! Absolutely devoured the banter in this book! The banter mixed with the tension and the angst, I was done for. It’s clear that Landon and Ainsley have a past but can they put the past behind them and move forward ?

Ainsley is a fierce strong independent woman. She has been through a lot with losing her father and trying to navigate life without him. She is finally the head coach for her old high school girls lacrosse team! Things are looking up for her until there is a new JV coach who happens to be a huge part of her past! I absolutely loved watching Ainsley grow and become the person she never let herself be due to running before things got real! But it was obvious to me that maybe her heart was always set on one person in particular!

Landon had a horrible childhood. He went through things no kid should ever have to go through. Ainsley was his rock until things went down in high school that they couldn’t overlook. He is the sweetest guy and he would do anything for the ones he loves. Witnessing him take care of his mom in this book actually broke my heart! He loves her with every bit of his heart and wants to be sure she is taken care of while she is sick.

This book is a must read! I can’t wait to see what the next book is! I am so grateful to the author for sending me this Advanced Readers a copy in exchange for a honest review!!

When I first bought my kindle and got a kindle unlimited subscription, the first author I read was Kristen Granata. I gobbled up every story so fast I couldn't WAIT to read more. I've been lucky enough to be an ARC reader for multiple of her releases and honestly - there's nothing like her writing.
This book was a refreshing sports romance (Lacrosse!) and the main characters are in their 30s! I love sports romance but am definitely sick of high school kids. This was my first lacrosse book and it was so enjoyable.

Ainsley is a total black cat FMC. She lost both her parents too young and feeling alone has her depending on noone but herself. She was always a strong personality, even in high school where she was the first girl on the boy's lacrosse team because she was so talented. She brought her talents back to her alma mater and is now currently the head coach for the high school girl's team. She really empowers the girls and encourages them to be the best version of themselves. That is, until a new head JC coach shows up.

Landon left high school and never looked back. His troubled childhood made it easy to go across the country, but his sickly mother brought him back home. Hard to believe after their confrontation in the beginning of the book, but the now rivals were actually once very close friends. One moment at the end of high school changed everything and led these 2 to not speaking for over 17 years.

What I loved about this book was it was completely different than the rest of Kristen's previous books. It definitely had a slow burn but the rivals were definitely rivaling. I couldn't put the book down and finished it within a day(why do we have to sleep?!).

Thank you to Kristen for allowing me to be apart of another ARC team. I can't wait for the rest of this series!

This book was refreshing. I mean who doesn’t love the tension between the main characters who just can’t wait to get their hands on each other but feel like they have to refrain? Ainsley and Landon are two people that was just meant to be each other’s other half despite the odds being seemingly stacked against them. Pain and fear will have you thinking that there is not a chance that you can be happy u less you put your guard all the way up and refuse to let people in. We have all been there and have made choices based on how a previous situation or relationship has left us.
Granata has a way of writing a story that makes you reflect while offering you an escape into a world of her making. Each book she writes deals with issues that are happening in real time and navigates them so beautifully. Sideline Rivals was no different. She tackled some tough, heart wrenching problems that people in the world of sports face as well as children who are still figuring out their place. The angst, the tension and the pain that was covered for these two, helps you to realize that sometimes you need to shift perspective and life is not something that just happens to you, but something that happens thru you. A solid 4.5 stars for me! Cannot wait for the rest of this series!!!

Sideline Rivals reminded me how much communication, trust, and giving people the space to grow matter in every relationship. It wasn't just a sports romance—it was a story about healing, friendship, ambition, and finding your way back to the people who truly understand you.

Landon was such an easy character to root for. I loved his thoughtful, down-to-earth personality and the quiet way he cared for the people around him. What stood out most was how he respected Ainsley's independence.

Ainsley was just as memorable. She was fiery and determined and never lost sight of who she wanted to become. Watching both of them grow individually before finding their way back to each other made their journey all the more rewarding.

There honestly wasn't a single thing I didn't enjoy.
Kristen's writing made the pages fly by, and every emotion—from laughter to heartbreak to hope—felt authentic. The happily-ever-after was completely deserved.

Recommending Sideline Rivals to anyone looking for a heartfelt sports romance with unforgettable characters.

Thank you, author, for the ARC copy. All thoughts are mine.

My first book from Kristen Granata and I was not disappointed. This book had everything from rivals to lovers, he falls first, strong FMC, second chance and sport romance (lacrosse no less!). It was great to read about a sport less written about and I loved the lacrosse focus.

Ainsley breaks boundaries, especially being the first female to play on the boys lacrosse team at her high school, that was a really nice touch to be honest. She smashed the glass ceiling and went for it.

Landon had a rough childhood but it made him more focused on making something of himself and escaping the situation. (Also a shout out to his thighs!)

Both are complicated and their past history makes things interesting to say the least. I loved the second chance aspect because it really showed how past trauma can be overcome and just how much both charges grew up in the time they spent apart. Their reconciliation is a wonderful arc.

Bonus points for LGBTQ+ representation.

It is a beautifully told story of rivalry, love and second chances.

Thank you so much Kristen Granata for the opportunity to read an eARC of this book, all opinions are my own

I literally love Kristen and how she handles grief and trauma. She writes it so well and so considerate.
This was such a fun read. I love how sassy Ainsley was, she was so strong headed and such an independent woman. Yeah there were some issues but I absolutely loved her.
Landon was such a cutie, I enjoyed him not wanting to get in Ainsley’s way but wanted what was best for her. Quinn was such a good side character, I enjoyed Landon giving her the space to coach as well and help the team. That literally made me smile so hard and was such an important aspect. Bernard was a hoot! The typical old man sitting on his porch and just vibing. It literally reminded me of my dad and how he would be if he was still around.
I enjoyed the flashbacks and getting why Ainsley was so strong headed and how she came to be who she was. But the change and growth from her was so beautiful to see.
There’s so much more I could yap about this about but it was such a good read!! As always well done Kristen you will forever be one of my all time favorite authors

Kristen’s books are always good, but this is quickly moving its way to my favorite of hers! I finished in a day, staying up all night NO REGRETS. It’s a second chance, enemies to lovers story. Ainsley is a super strong and driven FMC, and Landon is a cinnamon roll but you might not know it MMC. Both dealing with loss in different ways over the years, they find their way back to each other. My favorite part is they compliment each other, each making the other better and stronger. You’ll love the side characters too!! Lots of found family.

I normally don’t like in books are chapters of flashbacks, but this was so well done and necessary for the story I found myself looking forward to finding out more about their previous relationship. One thing about Kristen is she always does a great job with inclusive representation and this book is no different (mental health and LGBTQ+); touching on serious and heavy topics without weighing the book down making it the perfect balance of intense and funny/lighthearted.

🥍 strong FMC

Once again, as usual, Kristen Granata has knocking it out of the ballpark. For those of you who don’t know, this is the only author I will read contemporary romance from. Typically it’s just not my thing, but I eat Kristen’s books up. So much so that I always sign up for her ARCs. Regardless of what the book is. That’s how good she is. Sideline Rivals is the first in her new series of books and Breakwater has already stolen my heart with these relatable characters.
It breaks my heart that in the earlier parts of the process she was struggling with readers not liking Ainsley (remembered the I and the E 😉) for being a “difficult woman”. I feel this is a struggle a lot of strong willed women go through, and honestly, it only made me love her more. She’s human, she makes mistakes, and she learns from them, just like the rest of us. The banter? Unmatched. Jayden’s little mini arc? Loved it. I think I know where book 2 is headed, and I can’t wait to learn more about those characters and their lives.

Can Kristen write a bad love story? No, she can’t, it’s impossible. Sidelined Rivals proves that! I devoured Landon and Ainsley’s story. There were so many emotions while reading this book. My heart broke for so many characters and what they each had to face but I loved the way their people showed up for them. It showed love in so many different forms.

The rivals to lovers trope was written so well, I enjoyed the banter between Landon and Ainsley. Having flashbacks to their past together helped fill in the missing pieces and their characters from a young age made me fall in love with them and I couldn’t wait to see where things went. Their story felt so real and raw. I loved the way they found their way back to each other even though it wasn’t easy.

Kristen did a fantastic job writing Jayden’s story. Everyone deserves to have someone like Ainsley in their life. I’m so glad that his story was represented in this book!

my attention through this whole book was on HIGH! it was super interesting and i LOVED the characters! i am
a huge advocate for women’s sports and being a past high school/college athlete and seeing how men’s sports vs women’s sports was treated AND having coaches that stood with us makes the story all the more better!
i also coached track after college for 4 years so i understand Ainsley’s frustrations and struggles as a coach! i for sure saw myself in her haha! i’m not normally a sports romance person but i was super into this story, my husband played lacrosse growing up so i actually understood the references during the coaching scenes😂😂

i’m so grateful i got the honor of reading this book so
early! thank you so much Kristen, for allowing me to read this book early and allowing me to be a part of your amazing social media team💖 and thank you Jill for sharing this awesome author with me🩷🩷

I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest review.
Anything written by Kristen Granata is a masterpiece and I absolutely devoured this. Sideline Rivals is a sports romance (Lacrosse) with rivals to lovers vibes. Think strong FMC and also a strong MMC but what’s stronger is the FMC will to prove everyone wrong in a male dominated industry. Ainsley is such a strong person and she is here to prove that she belongs especially when someone from her past comes in and she hasn’t seen that person in YEARS! Landon is here just to take care of his mom and if that means he might also get to spend time with Ainsley then it’s a plus. Watching them go head to head and fall in love was everything. But FINALLY seeing a female take charge on the field and show that no one can tell her what to do or how to do it. The story was perfectly out together and didn’t feel rushed at all. It was the perfect mix of sports and romance!

I ADORED THIS SO MUCH!!! I have never read Kristen before and I’m kicking myself for it. This was a perfect Rivals to Lovers book and I loved Ainsley Morgan and Landon Fletcher getting another chance at what they so clearly wanted in high school. But loss, abuse, and their competitiveness stood in the way of that. Seventeen years later, they’re both back at their high school, coaching the girls lacrosse teams. Can they put their hatred aside and see what’s so good that’s right in front of their faces? Or will their resentment just be too much for them to patch things up?

The tension, the banter, the flirting….and most importantly the teamwork and supportiveness. Omg I just love this so much and will be thinking about these two for a while! The letter at the end 😭😭😭 Landon is absolutely perfect!!!!!

I was lucky enough to receive this as an ARC and let me say as always Kristen Granata knocked it out of the park.

In this new series we meet Ainsley and Landon who have some high school history that had them at each others throats when Landon comes back to coach the JV Lacrosse team where Ainsley is currently coaching the winning Varsity team.

As we slowly unravel their past their present relationship grows with witty banter and building tension. You will laugh and cry your way through their emotional journey that’s brings them back together.

As always Kristen’s characters are so relatable and deep, you care for them quickly and cheer for them as they work through their flaws in order to find love.

I’m very much looking forward to the rest of this series and highly recommend her entire back catalogue if you haven’t checked it out already!

I loved Ainsley’s character. She is strong, independent, and knows her worth. I loved how she stood her ground and felt her feelings.

Landon is a dreamy MMC. He doesn’t back down to Ainsley’s strong personality. He owns his past and isn’t afraid to be emotional. He confronts demons. He did the therapy. Fantastic MMC.

The fiery nature of Ainsley matched with the calm soul of Landon was great. They had a past which affected the present. I loved how they navigated this throughout the book.

It was a slow burn but for the right reasons. When she finally accepted she wanted him, there was no turning back. The chemistry was on point.

It has emotional aspects and mental health representation, which I love in all her books, but I didn’t feel that connection I have in other writings by this author.

I am excited to see where this series goes with the other characters.

Thanks to Kristen for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This friends, to enemies, to lovers story delivers all the banter, rivalry, chemistry, and forced proximity that keeps you turning the pages.

What I loved most was the relationship between the main characters. The MMC never stopped believing in the FMC. As teenagers, he cared about her but didn’t always know how to show it or communicate it well. Watching them reconnect as adults and seeing him finally become the man who could show her exactly how much he believed in and supported her was incredibly satisfying.

The story is full of witty banter, emotional growth, forgiveness, and learning to truly understand each other. It balances the romance with genuine character development, making their second chance feel earned.

If you love sports romances with strong chemistry, unresolved feelings, and a hero who never really gave up on his girl, this one is definitely worth picking up.

The way they matured and grew and found their way back to each other, the topics that were tackled … ugh, I just can’t say enough good things about this book! Be prepared, it’s an emotional roller coaster of the best kind!! This was an amazing start to the new series, I can’t wait for the rest!

This sports romance is unlike any I’ve read to date! It focuses on the coaches lacrosse teams - super unique sport to write about imo! Our MCs are childhood friends, turned rivals who have reconnected 17 years after graduation to coach the varsity and JV girls lacrosse teams at their old high school.

In typical Kristen Granata fashion, in this you’ll get sweet, funny, and spicyy moments, along with serious elements of inclusivity, heartbreaking family realities and life lessons. I love her writing and if you haven’t read anything by her, you’re missing out and need to rectify that.

This one surprised me in that I actually had to hold back tears twice..

Thank you, Kristen, for the ARC!

MUST READ.
This book is full of so much growth. It takes typical gender roles and runs them over with a lawn mower. Especially at time like this in our world, this book couldn't be better. Granta speaks out on so much truth through her characters. This was a definite page turner. I had to order in take out to eat while reading because I couldn't put it down. This book really goes to show how you never know what someone is going through and that there is always a different side to a story. I feel at a loss for words here. There was so many things I wanted to say as I was reading it, but right now all I can say is, read it for yourself. You may cry, you may scream, you may laugh, you may cheer, I know I did. I couldn't recommend this book any more.

I received an ARC from Kristen’s team🫶🏻

Ainsley is the varsity lacrosse coach and when the new JV coach is her old high school rival, Landon. Landon is back in his old town to help his mother, but seeing Ainsley again makes him rethink some of the past.

They butt-heads at the beginning, but Landon is persistent to make things right with Ainsley! I really appreciated how the two owned their past mistakes and move forward with their futures! Landon is very supportive and stands up for Ainsley when her career is in jeopardy!

I’m so happy to have had a new KG release this year! Hopefully we have more soon 🤞🏻

Thank you to the author, I was so lucky to receive an ARC of this!

I loved every bit of this book from the banter to the constant tension between the two characters. Kristen’s books never fail to bring the hilarious moments and then make you tear up the very next chapter.

Landon and Ainsley had such a difficult time, with life handing each of them the hardest situations at a young age. I loved having the dual timelines to show us just how far they’ve both come.

If you love rivals to lovers, sports romance, great spice and heartfelt moments then this book will definitely be for you.

ARC REVIEW! 🥍

I’m a Kristen Granata GIRLYYY, so when she offered an Arc for her newest book I ran. 🏃‍♀️

This is a rivals to lovers story and I honestly haven’t read a rivals to lovers before; but this one was so good!

Ainsley is a STRONG ass bitch, who’s been through so much, on and off the field.
Landon is the same! So many trials and tribulations for them both, yet they became amazing athletes and amazing coaches.

The tension between these two, had me giggling the whole time, because I’m def a “make fun of someone to flirt” type of person 😍😂

I love how this book also had trans representation in sports!!!
Overall, 10/10 5⭐️ book for me! Read it!

Another amazing emotional read from Kristen Granata. This book is a friends to rivals to lovers second chance romance. There are heavy topics such as parental abuse, parent illnesses (MS and cancer)and death , talk of anxiety / use of medication and a mother unaccepting of daughter who wants to transition. Rivals forced to work together coaching the schools female lacrosse teams find themselves dealing with their past and find a way to reconnect. Kristen always writes great inclusive mental health and LGBTQIA2S+ stories.
All the thoughts and opinions in this review are my own.
Thanks to Kristen Granata for the ARC copy to review.
