Edward Lee is an American novelist specializing in the field of horror, and has authored 40 books, more than half of which have been published by mass-market New York paperback companies such as Leisure/Dorchester, Berkley, and Zebra/Kensington. He is a Bram Stoker award nominee for his story "Mr. Torso," and his short stories have appeared in over a dozen mass-market anthologies, including THE BEST AMERICAN MYSTERY STORIES OF 2000, Pocket's HOT BLOOD series, and the award-wining 999. Several of his novels have sold translation rights to Germany, Greece, and Romania. He also publishes quite actively in the small-press/limited-edition hardcover market; many of his books in this category have become collector's items. While a number of Lee's projects have been optioned for film, only one has been made, HEADER, which was released on DVD to mixed reviews in June, 2009, by Synapse Films.
Lee is particularly known for over-the-top occult concepts and an accelerated treatment of erotic and/or morbid sexual imagery and visceral violence.
He was born on May 25, 1957 in Washington, D.C., and grew up in Bowie, Maryland. In the late-70s he served in the U.S. Army's 1st Armored Division, in Erlangen, West Germany, then, for a short time, was a municipal police officer in Cottage City, Maryland. Lee also attended the University of Maryland as an English major but quit in his last semester to pursue his dream of being a horror novelist. For over 15 years, he worked as the night manager for a security company in Annapolis, Maryland, while writing in his spare time. In 1997, however, he became a full-time writer, first spending several years in Seattle and then moving to St. Pete Beach, Florida, where he currently resides.
Of note, the author cites as his strongest influence horror legend H. P. Lovecraft; in 2007, Lee embarked on what he calls his "Lovecraft kick" and wrote a spate of novels and novellas which tribute Lovecraft and his famous Cthulhu Mythos. Among these projects are THE INNSWICH HORROR, "Trolley No. 1852," HAUNTER OF THE THRESHOLD, GOING MONSTERING, "Pages Torn From A Travel Journal," and "You Are My Everything." Lee promises more Lovecraftian work on the horizon.

A raunchy story of four people going to a haunted house to find the prize within, but the spirits in this house have other plans! I thought this story was entertaining and definitely had it's LOL moments

20 years ago: April is just about to step into the shower when struck by a headache. Downstairs, her boyfriend Derrick is too. He suddenly hears her scream and runs upstairs. He opens the bathroom door to find the water running, but no April - just a pile of flesh-colored glop - like pudding - on the floor. April is never heard from again.
Present day: the Marsten home is for sale, the land overgrown, paint flaking. Four people pull up - Ryan and three girls, Roxy, Amy, and Larsa. Ryan tells the three girls at least eight women have disappeared in this house since the '70s. All eight of their husbands or boyfriends have died of heart attacks or strokes too, from fright, they say. Ryan has convinced the three girls to spend the night here with him so he can film for his YouTube channel and "prove the existence of the supernatural."
After bribing a friend who works for the bank that repo'd the Marsten house, Ryan produces the key that lets them inside. They unpack and set up the film equipment in the living room, Ryan instructing the three to grab their cameras and walk around filming, but tells them all to get naked first, insisting it'll garner more views.
He tells them the upstairs bathroom is the activity hotspot, because that's reportedly where all eight women vanished from. Ryan also tells them about the original owner Septimus Marsten, who bought the house new in 1950. He and his wife, Asenath Marsten worked for the government doing something involving physics and quantum mechanics. The day before he died, Septimus withdrew all 1 million in cash from his bank account. The police concluded Asenath ran off with the money after Septimus had a heart attack.
But really, Asenath herself disappeared without a trace, after she hid the money somewhere in the house, first - if the rumors are to be believed - and Ryan wants to find it.
At 3:15 a.m. when they finally start filming, Ryan tells the three girls they're going to use a Ouija board to communicate with the house/spirits to ask about the money. They connect with one immediately and ask if it's Septimus. Before long, though, Asenath takes over the board, and offers them a basic hint, essentially pointing to the bathroom.
They all decide to closely examine the upstairs bathroom; all three girls get touched, or hurt in their private area by spirits. Ryan surmises it's the eight disappeared women. The girls demand to leave, but Ryan entices them with the premise of finding the money again, and they agree to stay. They began to look around the bathroom and notice that written in the mirror is the word "attic."
They ascend, and immediately notice a host of scientific equipment, all appearing to be on and working - and all directly above the shower. They wonder if the Marsten's were experimenting with alternate dimensions and parallel planes of existence - if they managed to create a portal, or a door - and that's where the eight women and the money are. But who's going to be the chosen one to go through the portal and find out?
Blinded by the thought of money, they never really stop to consider what else may be on the other side of that portal... Will the group find the hidden fortune? Even if they do, will they make it out of the house to spend it?

Anything and everything by Edward Lee is an insta-buy and a guaranteed 5 star read, I'm not currently accepting debates on this. This was no different; I love the cover and the classic Lee humor. This was a super quick read, and entertaining as always.

This reads like a horny twelve-year-old boy’s tribute to “horror”. . . and giant breasts.

65 pages long and at page 60 someone finally dies by getting her face ripped off. but sure let’s remind the reader every few paragraphs that the girls are naked and their boobs are swinging everywhere. oh and the guy has the biggest dick on planet earth

This has me laughing out loud and also enthralled by the behaviours of the characters in this read. A twisted tale of a haunted house. Ryan and his entourage of 3 women look at making a few bucks, by making a video of the house Inside. But there is more to this house, it's not just any haunted house and Ryan and the girls are going to find out.
This was a great read, Mr Lee has a unique way of telling a story by adding wit, humour and gore altogether. This had me laughing and cringing all the way through. A definite must read.Recommended.

Take Lovecraft's Thing At The Doorstep, King's 'Salem's Lot, and a lot of weird splatterpunk guro snuff porn and throw it all in a blender. Not a bad idea but it could be executed better imho. This felt like a cheap aborted sibling of the Amityville Bukkake.
