A wealthy Broadway producer is trying to buy the spa. And the paparazzi are having a field day with Jack's return to the social scene.
With nowhere to hide, they must trust in each other. Could all roads lead back to London?
Born in Australia, Robena now lives in Southern California. She has two adult children. Loves travel, hanging out with friends and family, reading, cooking, singing really bad karaoke, drinking really good red wine, chomping on chocolate, and swigging coffee. And she hates filling out forms because they give her a headache.
Robena Grant has a knack for detail. Her books always put me right in the moment noticing every unique distinction that she pens. Ring Me Later could be called a psychological suspense just as easily as a Romantic Suspense. Much time is spent getting into the heads of the characters and their deductions over who has done what and why. Then, at the perfect moment, Grant turns the story on its ear with action. Full action packed, tension wringing scenes that keep the reader on the edge of their seat and turning pages. Ring Me Later has classic romance elements tucked inside solid suspense story telling.
Romantic suspense requires a fine balance. The romance can’t be happening while danger is knocking on the door, because, really? Same with suspense. When your life is in danger, you don’t tend to think, wow I need a kiss right now. Robena Grant understands this core commitment of romantic suspense. She is the queen of keeping those two opposing forces, romance and suspense, operating smoothly. The effect is a sweet and spicy love story with the added thrill of heart-pounding, nail biting suspense.
Lisa and Jack were high school and college sweethearts in sunny California, until circumstances, including a job offer for Lisa in London, tore them apart. Five years later, Lisa is back in L.A. and Jack is a very rich businessman with a beach house in Malibu. Through work, they meet again and soon that old magic starts weaving its spell. Lisa worries Jack has remained the selfish, entitled boy she knew; Jack is determined to prove her wrong. Indeed, something is very wrong, but not with Lisa and Jack. Their love reignites like a California wildfire as Jack tried to deal with a mysterious enemy who seeks to bring him down…and maybe Lisa with him.
The villain is this novel is equally well executed. Scary creepy, readers will be shocked at what is at stake and how Lisa and Jack each use their own brand of smarts and strengths to get out of dire circumstances alive. Jack not only built upon a successful family business, but took it to heights beyond even his own imaginings. He somehow remained down-to-earth and humble, sense of humor intact. Lisa, no longer a lovesick college girl, has honed business talents of her own and it is a pleasure to watch her grow in awareness about the truth of her split with Jack, and the part she played in their break up.
Readers will root for these charismatic lovers, and quickly turn the pages until the explosive final moments.
I don't read a ton of romantic suspense, but this book makes me want to read it much more! All the pieces to a page-turning novel are here - suspense, romance, twists, great dialogue, and characters you'll root for. Loved it.
