First, do no harm.

Persephone Lovelace has always believed in the power of positive thinking—both in medical school and in dating. But when her ‘perfect’ boyfriend cheats, her grades slip dangerously low for the OB/GYN cutoff, and her toxic ex threatens to ruin her reputation unless she takes him back, Percy’s carefully curated optimism starts to crack.

Desperate times call for desperate (and possibly A.M.A.) measures.

Her solution? Fake-date the hospital’s most infamous doctor.

Enter Dr. Demon—brilliant, mercurial, and one complaint away from professional ruin. After failing to match into a surgical residency, he’s stranded in intern year purgatory, desperate for a way out. The last thing he needs is a fake girlfriend—even one as relentlessly sunny (and inconveniently charming) as Persephone.

But when she offers to help rehabilitate his reputation, he reluctantly agrees.

Yet between long shifts, whispered rumors, and carefully maintained lies, their calculated arrangement quickly spirals out of control.

And as Percy’s final year unravels, shadowed by phantoms both real and imagined, she is forced to choose between her career—

Or her heart.

Grey's Anatomy meets The Love Hypothesis in this witty, dark rom-com set in the final year of medical school, written by a practicing intern doctor. It's perfect for readers who

Kane and Percy’s chemistry completely hooked me, and I had to finish it so fast because they gave me all the butterflies. Kane making sure Percy was taken care of in different ways absolutely melted my heart!
The narrator part was a bit distracting and kept throwing me off.

Still a super cute read!

A contemporary romance set in a teaching hospital, anyone practicing or studying medicine will enjoy this one. You will feel seen, though that’s not to say if you have no medical background this book isn’t for you. It’s just a sweet romance… with a bunch of medical terminology on the side. Our FMC and MMC definitely commit a few HR violations, but if you can get past that, I think you won’t be able to help falling for Percy and Kane, and PercyAndKane.

Two things I want to clear up right now so you don’t feel mislead: contrary to advertising, this is not a Persephone and Hades retelling. Our Hades doesn’t do any kidnapping, though he does low-key force feed our Persephone (protein and caffeine, for her own good). Likewise, it’s also not narrated by Death so much as Death provides witty commentary and sage advice at the beginning of each chapter. When I saw ”narrated by Death” I was thinking like Markus Zusak’s ”The Book Thief” and this is not that. And since this is not that, having each chapter start with Death’s perspective is different and intriguing, but doesn’t really add or subtract from the overall story. It kind of creates an odd sort of dissonance: the story is set in present day real life, yet there is a fantasy element present. Mostly I think the author just likes Greek mythology and wanted to work it into a medical romance somehow. But since it doesn’t detract from the actual story, I’m not mad about it.

Two things I found jarring: without giving spoilers, both our main characters have traumatic experiences in their pasts that fundamentally shape who they are as human beings. The EVENTS are eluded to briefly and in veiled terms before being fleshed out more, but I didn’t feel like either was fleshed out enough. They weren’t glossed over per say, but both were lacking in detail making the trauma seem like it was so far back in the characters’ backstories as to not be terribly crystalline. I think we as readers and the characters deserved more depth to give body to the life-altering experiences they lived through. Second, it takes most of the book before it’s slipped in very offhanded that the MMC and his siblings are half Korean (the half you actually have to deduce), so subtle you’d probably miss it if you aren’t Asian. And then suddenly one of them is swearing in Korean, and it’s written in Hangul! Like what!? Where is this coming from? There’s absolutely no indication for most of the book that any character is Asian, or speaks a second language for that matter. In fact, very few characters are physically described in such a way that you can discern their race as the reader. And this is actually a significant point because this new knowledge changes the lens through which you view the characters and their actions and suddenly you’re having to reanalyze most of the book because you’ve just gotten a huge piece of the puzzle revealed to you and it wasn’t the picture you thought it was. So jarring it was like hitting a brick wall.

All that being said, I really did enjoy this book. I read it in a single sitting staying up wayyy past my bedtime to finish. It’s cute, it’s real, raw, and authentic, and it masterfully toes the line between corny rom-com tropes and writing a story that honors the sacrifices all health care workers and students make. You can really tell it’s written by someone in the healthcare field, and the fact that Alice can do both medicine and write a novel is seriously impressive. She also writes herself into the story which is just adorably brilliant.

Overall, I’m’ giving this one a 3.5/5 personally, but I think folks within medicine will most likely enjoy it like a 4. I’ve already recommended it to my doctor friends, so that’s all you really need to know.

Not gonna lie, I didn't immediately sink into this book. I was slightly overwhelmed, to be honest. There was just a lot going on: Grey's Anatomy vibes, The Love Hypothesis vibes, Greek mythology and a story narrated by Death himself. I was thoroughly intrigued because I really like all of those things separately, but I didn't quite know what I was in for with them all mashed together.

It also wasn't an easy read in the traditional sense. There are a lot of medical, hospital, and STEM references. BUT let me tell you this: every single time I raised a "whaaaat?" eyebrow, I would turn the page and find a footnote from Thanatos (God of Death). I was never left confused. Instead, I felt like I was actually learning something. Thanatos notes really added so much humor and charm to the story, truly enjoyed that!

For me, one of the strongest elements of this story is its portrayal of medical setting. It's obvious that the author knows exactly what she's writing about because she sets the scene perfectly. I felt like I was right there alongside the characters in that cutthroat teaching hospital environment, exhausted after 80 hour work weeks and stressing about ”Match Day”. This sense of realism was one of the things I adored most about this book and what truly makes it stand out.

Our MMC, Kane, is the grumpiest of the grumpy. So grumpy he literally makes people cry. But page after page, we see him slowly open up to our FMC, Percy. And let me tell you, this is my kryptonite when it comes to romance because it's just so delicious. A grump completely down bad with the love flu 🥵😷 See what I did there? Sorry, moving on 😅

The romance is really good. It's a slow burn that builds gradually, and the chemistry is definitely there. One thing I truly love in a book is when we get several chapters from one POV, and then we switch perspectives and get hit with all the yearning. It's so good!!

I did have a hard time fully understanding Hades x Persephone part of the story, as well as the Greek mythology. While I appreciated Thanatos’s narration, I did wonder at one point whether that aspect was really necessary. Altough it did landed better toward the end, and it added a nice magical realism vibe to the story. But the fact that it had me confused for the most part of the story kinda pulled me out of it at times.

Another thing that pulled me out of the story a bit was how some character details seemed to reveal themselves out of nowhere. For example, at one point a charachter suddenly starts swearing in another language, and that part of the identity hadn't really been established. The same thing happened with certain aspects of the FMC. Sometimes it felt like the book assumed I already knew things that hadn't actually been revealed to me yet. Or the books doesn’t really cover that at all.

The writing itself often felt dreamlike. The author rarely spells things out for the reader. Instead, she lets details linger in the background, unexplained at first. Sometimes a character would talk about someone and I'd think, "Wait... who?" But those moments always made sense later. The book asks you to trust the process, and more often than not, it pays off. That’s another thing I liked about this book, way the author balanced something as rigorous and demanding as medicine and STEM with her dreamlike writing. I don't know if this will make sense to anyone else, but I was impressed and really enjoyed that.

If you like the Grey's Anatomy setting, the STEM romance and the fake dating from The Love Hypothesis, I'm willing to bet you'll enjoy this one. It was such a clever and fun romance read!

“No wonder he’s more muscle than personality. I hate it when discipline yields beautiful results.”

“the way he says my full name - like it’s a prayer, like I’m really his goddess - makes my soul ache.”

“You ruin me, little surgeon.”

“I might actually hate this man. I’m undoubtedly in love with this man. I’m going to spend the rest of my life wishing I’d chosen this man.”

✨✨✨

Thank you to Alice Hahm and Whimsy Words PR for an ARC of this story.

If you’re into Grey’s Anatomy, The Pitt or Pulse and a mysteriously complex narrator, then this one is for you!

✨ Hades x Persephone retelling
✨ he falls first & falls harder
✨ fake dating
✨ grumpy/sunshine
✨ medical student main characters

Okay so I hope I didn’t scare you by saying “mysteriously complex narrator” because it’s actually incredibly clever. There’s effectively 3 points of view in this story, Persephone’s, Kane’s and Thanatos (God of Death) who haunts the characters and the hospital, giving witty advice and observations throughout.

The story is quite sweet, albeit a little more complex than your usual fake dating scenario. Percy’s ex boyfriend works with her at the hospital and he won’t leave her alone after their breakup, so to try and get rid of him, Percy asks Kane if they can pretend to be an item. Kane’s happy to oblige since he’s known more fondly as Dr Demon, around the hospital, so he needs a bit of an image improvement.

There’s a lot to take in initially, medical terms, hospital terms and some other bits but Thanatos helps you work it all out in his observations and his notes on Percy and Kane’s budding relationship. I think it added a light humour and charisma to the story.

This is a really slow burn kind of story, with heaps of chemistry between the two MC’s, and yearning from basically everyone involved.

Percy is a bright and bubbly OB/GYN hopeful, and she’s in need of some relationship rehabilitation when her crazy ex decides he’s not done with her yet, which is where Kane comes in. Brooding, grumpy and threatening a lot of the time, Kane’s a hospital ‘nepo baby’ who is hoping to move from surgery to something more welcoming and low key when Persephone appears in his life. He needs a personality makeover, and she’s might just be the one who can help.

It’s a really fun, clever and witty read. Unlike any romance I’ve read before, and incredibly knowledgeable thanks to it being written by a real life doctor. I’d be interesting to see where the story goes if it’s carried on!

Operation Love Match by Alice Hahm - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you so much to Alice Hahm and Whimsy Words PR for this eARC!

Grey’s Anatomy meets The Love Hypothesis (or, as I’ve privately been calling it, The Pitt: RomCom season), *and* it’s a Hades x Persephone retelling! (No seriously, the FMC’s name is Persephone and she’s PRECIOUS.)

Persephone "Percy" Lovelace is sunshine personified, a medical school student who is a OBGYN resident hopeful, and has a stalker of an ex that won't leave her alone. Kane "Dr. Demon" Goodyear is broody and has a bad reputation, including making an attending doctor cry, which makes him a poor match candidate as a surgical resident hopeful. And he already didn't match last year. A bargain to fake date could benefit both.
Percy needs a boyfriend so her ex will leave her alone.
Kane needs a bubbly, friendly girlfriend to increase his standing among his peers.

I absolutely ADORED this book, it had me hooked from the very first page! The chemistry between Kane and Percy was *everything*. I found myself smiling at so many of their interactions and rooting for them every step of the way. I loved the little sprinklings of Hades-and-Persephone-ness throughout: pomegranates, Percy’s fondness for gardening, “I’ll fly to you in the winter; you’ll fly to me in the spring.”
This book happens to be narrated by Thanatos (Death) which I won’t lie, was absolutely charming! He added in some delightful humor and important medical information to help keep you up with that side of the story— which I appreciated! As much as I’ve been deep-diving into The Pitt, I’m still not quite up to date on all the lingo 😂

I also loved the fun play on words throughout the book! The big hospital was The Hospital, the rural run down hospital was Rinky Dink, the hospital in the big town was The Hub. The various social medias like ClockTok and Vainstagram, and electronic devices like AirHeads. And the author making herself a character off screen was so cute! Shoutout OLM universe Dr. Alice Hahm!

This book gave me all the butterflies, all the smiles, and left me with the biggest grin on my face by the end. 🤭 If you're looking for a sweet, heartwarming romance with amazing chemistry and characters you'll fall head over heels in love with, Operation Love Match needs to be on your TBR.

Thank you so much to Alice Hahm and Whimsy Words PR for this incredible opportunity! I can't wait for more!

I was absolutely sold on this book from its description: Hades x Persephone meets Grey's Anatomy - does that not just sound like absolute perfection?

There were a lot of things to love about this one. The character inspiration was great, and it was fun to see elements of Hades and Persephone's story being brought to life by the settings, background characters and even minor details like Percy's love of gardening and matcha drinks. (Is there anything that gives more spring vibes?)

I wondered, for probably the first half of the story, whether they were supposed to actually be supernatural entities in a modern day setting (like Lore Olympus) or if their story was just reflective of the Greek myth. I think in the end, I settled on the latter, thanks to some clues from the narrator, but I did find this a bit ambiguous in a couple of places. This isn't necessarily a criticism - I'm aware that this could be entirely a deliberate choice, especially with the inclusion of the undeniably supernatural omniscient narrator: Thanatos.

The medical setting was highly convincing, thanks to the author's own medical experience and qualifications, and did a great job of highlighting the pressures and difficulties that training doctors face in a cut-throat, highly competitive career path, where ending up in jobs that many would consider to be signs of success are viewed as a failing.

For me, some of the plot moved very quickly. Throwing us into the fake dating conversation without any sense of the characters before hand was a really interesting choice and meant that I spent a long time trying to decide if we could really trust Kane to take care of Percy as promised. The chemistry between him and Percy was beautifully done, and the moments where they really gave in to their feelings were such a joy to read.

I did also feel that some of the wider cast of characters were difficult to keep in mind or have a very strong sense of, just because the nature of the fast moving plot meant they weren't lingered on or seen as particularly necessary. (I loved Dr Alice Hahn as a cameo though - more authors should throw themselves into their own fictional worlds!)

Overall, this was a fun read that deals with some serious ideas, but doesn't demand that you take it too seriously. It is a rom-com after all!

Operation Love Match
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

RELEASE DATE: June 24th, 2026

Persephone “Percy” Lovelace is sunshine personified, a medical school student who is a OBGYN resident hopeful, and has a stalker of an ex that won’t leave her alone. Kane “Dr. Demon” Goodyear is broody and has a bad reputation, including making an attending doctor cry, which makes him a poor match candidate as a surgical resident hopeful. And he already didn’t match last year. A bargain to fake date could benefit both. Percy needs a boyfriend so her ex will leave her alone. Kane needs a bubbly, friendly girlfriend to increase his standing among his peers.

I could not put this book down! Fake dating, OBGYN (I’m an OBGYN ultrasound tech so you know I ate that up), the suspense leading up to match day! This was so well done, I had such a great time watching Percy and Kane’s relationship evolve, Percy become confident and find her self-worth, and Kane realizing he deserves all that he worked so hard for.

I found so much of myself in Percy. Feeling under appreciated, over worked, and never enough. The medical field is so toxic. But then there was that moment where it was all worth it. “This is my why. Why I work so hard. Why I push to the best. Why I think women’s health is so extraordinary.”

There were small elements of Persephone and Hades: pomegranates, gardening for Percy, being in one city for six months, but not as much as I expected! Also, Death as a narrator was hilarious with his narrator notes 😂

I also loved the fun play of words. The big hospital was The Hospital, the rural run down hospital was Rinky Dink, the hospital in the big town was The Hub. The various social medias like ClockTok, and electronic devices like AirHeads. And the author making herself a character off screen was so cute and fun also!

Fake dating chaos, medical romance tension, and grumpy x sunshine perfection. Operation Love Match is a sharp, witty, emotionally charged medical rom-com that blends high-stakes hospital life with a slow-burn romance you can’t help but root for.

Persephone Lovelace is a medical student on the edge of losing everything—her career plans, her reputation, and her carefully built optimism. When her life starts falling apart, she makes a desperate decision: fake-date the hospital’s most feared doctor, known only as “Dr. Demon.”

What begins as a strategic arrangement quickly turns into something far more complicated as long shifts, hospital rumors, and emotional vulnerability blur the lines between what’s real and what’s pretend.

Dr. Demon is exactly what his nickname suggests—brilliant, intimidating, emotionally closed off—but beneath the harsh exterior is someone equally broken, equally ambitious, and unexpectedly drawn to Percy’s warmth.

The chemistry between them builds gradually, making every interaction feel meaningful and loaded with tension.

✨ What stood out:

* Fake dating trope
* Grumpy x sunshine romance
* Medical school setting
* Slow-burn tension
* Emotional healing
* Workplace romance (hospital setting)
* Hades x Persephone retelling vibes
* Strong character development
* Banter and emotional depth

A clever, addictive romance that balances humor, heartbreak, and healing in a high-pressure medical world.

⚠️ Content Warnings

* Medical stress and burnout
* Toxic relationship themes (ex-boyfriend)
* Emotional manipulation
* Academic pressure
* Mental health struggles
* Hospital-related emergencies
* Anxiety and self-doubt
* Workplace power dynamics
* Emotional trauma references

⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ (3.5/5)

Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
ARC copy provided by Whimsy Words PR.

As someone who doesn’t typically read medical romances, I had a harder time connecting with Operation Love Match than I expected with being in the medical field.
The medical school and hospital setting felt overwhelming at first, and it took me quite a while to get invested in the story and the characters. Because this was a new genre for me, I found myself struggling through the first third of the book.

Once the fake dating storyline really took off, I started enjoying it much more. The grumpy/sunshine dynamic was fun, and I appreciated watching the relationship develop naturally rather than feeling rushed. Persephone’s optimism balancing Dr. Demon’s guarded personality created some genuinely sweet moments, and I liked that both characters had their own personal struggles to work through.

The emotional themes surrounding reputation, self-worth, and healing added depth beyond the romance, although at times I felt the pacing slowed down more than I would have liked. Some sections felt repetitive, making it difficult to stay fully engaged until later in the story.

Overall, while this wasn’t a perfect fit for my personal reading preferences, I can absolutely see why fans of medical romances and fake dating would enjoy it. The writing was solid, the chemistry eventually won me over, and I finished the book satisfied with where the characters ended up.

If you’re a fan of:

* 🩺 Medical romance
* 💕 Fake dating
* ☀️ Grumpy x Sunshine
* 🏥 Hospital setting
* ❤️ Emotional healing
* 📚 Greek mythology-inspired retellings

…then this is definitely worth checking out.

STEM FMC: 4th year med student, STEM MMC: Intern year resident
This book reminded me a bit of The Love Hypothesis: STEM workplace romance, grumpy/sunshine, fake dating, he falls first
Make sure you read the content warnings thoroughly before starting this book! I cannot stress that enough. There's a lot that happens in this book, and some of it is dark.
Overall, I really enjoyed it. It's a Hades/Persephone retelling, so maybe I would have gotten a little more out of the style of the book and the characters if I were more familiar with Greek mythology, but it was still an excellent debut and I had a good time. My biggest issue was how long the miscommunication continued before they finally figured things out, so if you're not big on miscommunication, brace yourself.
I did a lot of crying for both Kane and Percy. Most of this book is in Percy's POV, but there are a select few chapters from Kane's POV that were very emotional. I'm very grateful for the romance genre in general that guarantees we get an HEA. I do wish that we would have gotten an epilogue a few years down the line to see how things are in the future for them. I also wish we would have gotten a hint of spice in there to see more of their physical connection (this book is kisses only), but their emotional connection was very well done and the want for spice is a personal preference that didn't impact my enjoyment of the story.
It's well written and has excellent character arcs. Unique STEM romance debut for sure!

Dry and brilliant, like many physicians, this story follows a new doctor as she tries to find her place among her peers. What starts out as a fake dating to get Doctor Creep off Percy’s back blossoms into something real, much to her surprise.

Kane is grumpy. He finished school much earlier than his peers and missed Match Day. It wrecked him and left him feeling stuck and unloveable, at least until next match day. What Percy comes to realize though, is that the man they call “Dr Demon”, has a soft and squishy underbelly. He is thoughtful and kind under that burly exterior of hurt.

Hahm’s insightful look at the perils of residency will thrill fans of medical dramas. Everything from the pervasive belief that women physicians give up their child bearing years to medicine (what sort of monster doesn’t want kids?! Gasp.) to the wildly long hours is touched on with care and a touch of humor. Having worked 18 hour shifts, I am awestruck at physicians’ (and PAs’) ability to work 24 hours. On repeat. And then to have normal conversations(!).

The inclusion of Thanatos as the narrator was the closest inclusion to a Persephone and Hades retelling, IMO. His insight was hilarious and timely in most of the book. And the author’s cameo in her own book? Priceless.

Fans of medical romance, opposites attract/ grumpy x sunshine, reverse age gap (she’s two years older), slow burn, fake relationships will enjoy this one!

I received this as an ARC from Whimsy Words PR and am leaving my honest opinion.

⭐️4.75⭐️ spice: none

Thank you to Whimsy Words PR & the Author for my ARC of Operation Love Match. This is my opinion of the book in my words.

I am a huge sucker for a Persephone & Hades retelling. There is something so intriguing about their story that I can’t quite put my finger on. So, this was right up my alley. I love that the author chose a setting that she has experience in. It was so cool to have footnotes over what some medical terms were. Also, there is a book playlist & it is perfection.

My only reason I didn’t give a full 5 is because sometimes I was confused by Persephone & Dr. Demon’s story. Is it a retelling or are they actually Hades & Persephone. They hint sometimes at Percy’s namesake or compare Dr. Demon(again don’t want to spoil a good thing) to an actual demon. They also have a lot of Greek mythology references(fates, and more. Don’t want to spoil!) that I wasn’t fully sure if it was like normal real people, or if they are actually Hades & Persephone. It was a tiny bit unclear.

I loved that we had Dual POVs. We don’t get much from Dr. Demon(he may have 3 POVs) but they are so worth it!! I love fake dating, found family, nicknames(ITS ACTUALLY TOO MUCH!), & the “you came”, “you called” dynamic. I think this is such a great novel, and I love that it was written by someone who has actually been through Med School, so she has experience!! Again, thank you so much for letting me read & having a chance to review!

Consider this devoured 🥵✨️

For a book with no spice... SWOON!

I adored our MC's! The banter, the connection and common grounds in both their past and present. Top tier!

I also appreciated the injection (see what I did there👀) of past trauma and some harsher circumstances without it being too heavy or glossed over. Also excellent awareness for the shockingly long hours and work behind the scenes of healthcare.

The MMC was a lil self-sabotaging, touch her & die, consent King and well... he can buy me a matcha and a strawberry croissant any day (keeping in the theme of no spice)!
The FMC I wish I liked her more but together their chemistry was everything. I also loved that she's a FMC with heart and feisty side.

The exploration of a medical romance was beautifully done and the footnotes, was a cherry on the top. Super impressed! It's everything a bookworm in health care would love... and for those who aren't, it's super easy to follow/embrace. It's not a super insta love / rom com neither is it too medical in depth.

The narration, threw me a little bit but I loved the style and approach! It brought humour and a certain flair to the read. That said, the Greek mythology was definitely lost on me which was sad because I was so ready to embrace it (as Greek mythology isn't a territory I'm familiar with). It was like trying to distinguish the line between what was real and could it be mythology?

Overall though, I completely smashed these out within a couple of hours. They are an addictive duo!

Am I dying for a spicy version? Maybe 🤷‍♀️👀🥵😏

I really enjoyed this book and found it to be such an entertaining read from start to finish. One of my favourite elements was the narrator’s notes sprinkled throughout the story. They added so much personality and humour, and I always looked forward to them popping up. 📖✨

The real star of the show for me, though, was Thanatos as the narrator. His voice was witty, engaging, and full of character, making it so easy to get pulled into the story. His observations and commentary added an extra layer to the reading experience and were easily one of my favourite parts of the book.

I’ll admit that some of the medical jargon went completely over my head at times, but it never took away from my enjoyment of the story. The medical setting felt authentic without being overwhelming, and I was still able to follow everything that mattered.

The best way I can describe it is that it felt a bit like *Grey's Anatomy* if you took away most of the medical drama and focused on the characters, relationships, friendships, and all the personal chaos that comes with them. It had that same addictive quality where you're just as invested in everyone's lives as you are in the main plot.

Overall, this was a fun and enjoyable read. It didn't completely wow me, but I had a great time with it and found myself genuinely invested in the characters.

Thank you to Whimsy Words PR and Alice Hahm for providing me with an ARC of Operation Love Match in exchange for an honest review.

Where do I even begin? I absolutely adored this book!

Kane and Percy's romance had me hooked from the start, and the chemistry between them was everything. I found myself smiling at so many of their interactions and rooting for them every step of the way.

One of my favorite things about Kane was how thoughtful and caring he was. The way he always made sure Percy ate might seem like a small thing, but it melted my heart every single time. It's those little moments that made their relationship feel so genuine and special.

I genuinely could not stop turning the pages. Every chapter left me wanting more, and before I knew it, I was completely invested in their story. Alice Hahm did such a wonderful job building the romance and making me care about these characters.

This book gave me all the butterflies, all the smiles, and left me with the biggest grin on my face by the end.

Read this if you love…Persephone x Hades retellings. Narrated by Death. Set in a hospital. Greys anatomy vibes. Grumpy x sunshine. Fake dating. Chemistry!! Mental health awareness. OB/GYN. Healing from grief

If you want a story that’s going to make you laugh, cry and yearn for these characters to get together then I prescribe you Operation love match 🫶🏻

I’m a sucker for books that give their chapters titles, and this delivered big time! The banter between Percy and Kane was so fun to read about! Top tier. Definitely a kicking my legs up giggling every time they were together on page type of feeling. This was a really unique book and I loved every second.

! THE ELEVATOR LIFT SCENE IS ON REPEAT ON MY BRAIN !

It was very clever of the author to use real world apps (like Airbnb and Starbucks but switch it to Heirbnb and MoonMonies) so it didn’t feel too real and still like a fictional world. I don’t mind authors giving their characters phones and apps cause it’s part of almost everyone’s life and I find message threads in books interesting because it can give something new, but after the PLL TikTok change in the book it’s made me notice it a lot more.

Can’t wait to meet you again in your next book, Alice!

As someone who loves STEM and encouraged by the “Love Hypothesis meet Greys Anatomy” recommendation and has studied and works in medical, I had high expectations going into this book. However, while it was a captivating story, I found myself having to read between the lines and felt like there was holes. I felt like there was a lot missing, and it felt rushed, but also missing depth.
The names of the hospitals/cities and changing names to “Heirbnb” etc to, what I assume is to cover licensing etc, made it disjointed and added to the confusion.

There is huge potential for future character and plot development, and accurately captured the stress of life as an intern/med student/resident. It really encouraged you to think of the “why” behind the effort of being a medical student and was really triggered regarding the “cost of becoming a doctor” - particularly for women. Many thought provoking questions of is it worth it. And there was definitely some perception of a culture of speciality shaming.

Creative licence and fictional story line aside, it certainly felt discouraging for women especially, to pursue a medical career, and if assists in the emancipation of medical education equality- fabulous

It was enjoyble, romcom in a hospital setting a bit like Greys Anatomy and fun that the author has background in it too. And that background shows in the footnotes throughout the book.
It wasn't a wow kinda book for me but I enjoyed the vibe, the characters and the overall plot of it! The narrator didn't really work for me but that's very individual sinse I know other people love that.
I also did not get throughout if they werw human or if they actually were Persephone and Demon, that was very unclear at times and it made me confused. The characters showed growth as they got along and I liked their chemistry, it felt real. The miscommunication was a bit drawn out and for me it could be established much sooner, but you know, it's tricky to pull off so it will fit with everyones preferance on that trope.

That said even if it wasn't entirely for me, it could be for you! And I believe it was a very good book with great characters and plot, and if you are looking for spice btw, you will not find it in this book, other than kissing.

Thank you to Whimsy words and the author for giving me the opportunity to read this in advance!

I received an ARC copy for exchange of an honest review. Thank you to the author for this opportunity.

Although I have not read a ton of Hades and Persephone retellings, this one felt a bit forced for me. Being set in the medical field, I thought it was a unique concept, and I am a sucker for a fake dating trope. I found it a bit disappointed because they only really had a couple of fake dating moments, the rest was them just being a couple. The writing felt forced with Greek mythology references and metaphors, as well as medical language. It took me out of the story and felt like some chapters were only used to flaunt medical knowledge. I liked the omnipresent Thanatos. I do feel like this is where the Greek metaphors were used the most. The character’s were fun, and I enjoyed their individual voices. The only person I had a fault with was the anigonist. I felt like there was not enough time developed in his story and the arc of his downfall. Once the book hits a certain point, it becomes a train speeding off the rails and I couldn’t keep up. By the time I realized what was happening, it was all over. This book is good if you’re looking for a light, fun read!

Medical fake-dating romance that starts when a sunshine medical student needs help from a grumpy resident to scare off her stalking ex-boyfriend.

This is one of the first few books that got me hooked from the start, as in the prologue, i was already slightly giggling and hooked i knew this book was not going to disappoint at all, which it did not! The characters sure does not disappoint at all especially Dr. Demon😈 😉. One of my favourite things that are not really commonly found in books is text messages that arent just words but in text bubbles and this book has it and i love love love 🥰 Another upside, have you seen the book playlist its unbelievable, usually i would listen to my own songs but this playlist is amazing choices! (especially if you are a Tate fan) This story is about a kind of mutual exchange that benefits both parties, through fake dating, but does it really end with fake love or does one fall first?

Mr. Dark and Broody (Dr. Demon) x Ms. Sunshine (Persephone).

If you are still here and is looking for a fun, addictive fake dating trope romance where the MMC will do ANYTHING for her, totally add this to TBR!

I work in the medical field and I really enjoyed the medical aspect of the story! It gave me Grey’s Anatomy vibes if spun with a Hades x Persephone retelling…I enjoyed it.

The story wasted no time jumping in and I appreciated the fast paced start…it kept me intrigued on what was going to happen. I felt the medical aspects were true to nature and I think that had a lot to do with their own personal experiences and I truly loved that! Death kind of narrating the in between also was an interesting touch - a lot of it had me laughing at the witty comments - it made it different from other things I’ve read recently as well.

Percy and Kane’s chemistry was there from the beginning and seeing it pan out through the story was a lot of fun. I really liked Percy from the jump - with all the pressure, I felt like she had a plan and was going to make it happen. Kane was “that guy” that turned everyone down and lived in his own bubble - that was until Percy!

Anyone medical that loves a good romance should definitely pick this one up! Just like in Grey’s - those HR flags are flagging 🤣 I really enjoyed this one! Thank you Whimsy Words PR and Alice for the early read. All opinions are my own.

I had such a fun time with Operation Love Match. This was a clever, addictive medical rom-com with fake dating chaos, grumpy x sunshine tension, and Hades x Persephone retelling vibes woven through in such an enjoyable way.

I really enjoyed Thanatos as the narrator, his narrator notes added so much personality to the story. I also loved the formatting of the chats, which felt cute, playful, and really suited the tone of the book.

Percy and Dr. Demon had such good chemistry. Grumpy x sunshine is one of my favourite tropes, and this did it so well. I was genuinely giddy at some of their interactions, especially as the fake dating arrangement started to blur into something much more real.

The Hades x Persephone elements were also a huge highlight for me. I’m always weak for that kind of retelling, and I felt like Alice Hahm captured their personalities really well while still giving the story its own modern, medical romance twist.

This was such an enjoyable read and I ended up binging it in a day. Thanks to whimsypr for arc.

ARC Review

As a medical assistant I loved this book!

Kane is a depressed loner scrambling to make it to his second round of matches. Percy is a bubbly medical student who is being harassed by her cheating ex. What better way to deter your ex than pretend to date someone everyone is afraid of!

First off Thanatos being the narrator killed me, pun intended. Another thing that was unique was the footnotes! I appreciated the author explaining things that wouldn’t be common knowledge or even just funny little comments. The book leans in heavily on the life and process of a medical student to include the mental health aspects and I can appreciate that. I do wish we had a few more Percy and Kane private moments to really show their relationship turn from fake to real feelings. For my spicy girlies, it’s mostly kissing and insinuating. However I did enjoy the book, I read it in 24 hours! There was a little quiz at the end of the book and if that doesn’t scream medical field I don’t know what does. 🤣

Thank you to the author Alice Hahn and ARC team for the opportunity to read this book! 🤍🤍

Operation Love Match was such a fun and heartwarming romance that kept me smiling from beginning to end. The chemistry between Persephone and Kane was undeniable, and I loved watching their relationship develop through all the tension, banter, and sweet moments. The medical setting added an extra layer of charm and gave the story a unique backdrop without overwhelming the romance. This was the best of greys anatomy in a book.

I found myself eager to keep turning pages to see how everything would unfold. The supporting characters also added depth and made the world feel lively and authentic.

Overall, if you enjoy workplace romance, lovable characters, great chemistry, and a story that leaves you feeling warm and happy, I definitely recommend picking up Operation Love Match- Out June, 24th 2026 🤭

This book was SO cute!

I had such a fun time reading Operation Love Match. It actually made me want to rewatch Grey’s Anatomy because it perfectly blended hospital life, romance, and humor.

Percy is sunshine personified. She’s a medical student hoping to become an OB-GYN resident while dealing with a stalker ex who refuses to move on.

Kane—also known as “Dr. Demon”—is the broody surgical resident hopeful with a terrible reputation around the hospital.

Their fake dating arrangement starts as something practical but slowly grows into something much sweeter. I loved watching their relationship develop and seeing Kane’s softer side emerge.

If you enjoy medical romances with fake dating, grumpy x sunshine dynamics, and plenty of laughs, I’d definitely recommend this one.

Thank you to Alice Hahm and Whimsy Words PR for the opportunity to read and review this ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

i was confused at a lot of points, not because of all the terminology and logistics of healthcare, though there were times that was a bit confusing too, but because the writing didn’t describe clearly enough the shifts in settings and moments at times which made me have to keep reading back and forth to see where my understanding dropped. also we just suddenly find out that Kane is Korean in the last third of the book? random drop but that’s not that big of a deal I guess. also in the beginning, I was given the impression that Kane had always known of and admired Percy, because of this admission of her name at the beginning that was giving the love hypothesis, which this whole book tries to sell in similarity, but that never got brought up again? what was up with that? also (last “also,” I swear) the sudden annoyance to romance was giving whiplash. Kane was HELLA mean at the beginning and even in the middle he was pissing me off but all of a sudden he’s in love with her? the romance just didn’t transition smoothly imo.

📚 ARC REVIEW 📚
⭐ Rating: 5/5
This was a clever and fun romance read! I found myself reading long into the night. It is especially great for anyone working in the medical field! As a nurse I could really appreciate the difficulties of giving so much of yourself. I feel this writing is on par with Abby Jiminez who I adore!

📖 About:
Percy needs a plan to get her horrible ex to leave her alone. She decides to Fake date a Doctor who is known as Dr Demon for his less than warm demeanour and makes him an offer he can’t refuse. Over time their plan takes off and spirals out of control along with their work life. Come end of year they have to choose between work matches or love?

💬 Favorite Quote:
"”But if we’re going down in flames,” he offers, “we might as well… enjoy each other’s company."”

✨ Loved:
•Thanatos narrating was interesting/amusing
•Banter between FMC/MMC
•Caring for one another so genuinely
•Mental health rep
•Plot twist at the end! Sooo good

I like how through all the humour Alice has shone light on important heavy topics and helped the characters work through those.

Thank you to WhimsyBooksPR for the ARC.

It takes a lot for me to DNF. Especially with an ARC, I do my best to finish it. This “book” is so terrible I only got to page 59.

I knew the MCs were in med school. I did not think I would need to understand the intricacies of med school to be able to read and understand this book. That wasn’t the case. The timeline was weird. One second it had been two weeks since she’d seen “Dr. Demon,” and the next, it was just last night that he turned her down and sent her running and crying. They agree to fake date, but she hasn’t seen him in a month?

What really broke the camel’s back for me was naming a rural hospital Rinky Dink. All of these hospital names were absurd, but Rinky Dink? That’s an insult to rural hospitals everywhere. As a healthcare worker at a “rinky dink” hospital, this is beyond insulting. I’m sure it was meant to be funny, a little jest at the expense of the “bandaid stations” across America, but I didn’t find it the least bit funny.

Don’t let the cover fool you too much, although it is a medical romance like the cover suggests, there is so so much more that I was not expecting that completely surprised me in the best way!
It was a fun and easy read, I loved the medical aspect as it made me feel like I was watching greys anatomy, which is one of my favourite shows! The whole Persephone x Hades vibes (not so much a retelling) with the whole ‘Death’ narration.
The chemistry between the characters was great, I loved the funny / banter moments, it was really fun!
And I was pleasantly surprised by the plot twist 👀😋
The only thing I wish the book had was spice, even if it was just one or two scenes, I feel like the tension was leading up to it a couple times and I just felt let down, but that is definitely a personal preference so I don’t hold this against the author!
Overall I really liked the story and would recommend!

ARC REVIEW:

I am filled with gratitude and blessed I was given the opportunity to read and review Operation Love Match by Alice Hahm and Whimsy Words PR.

I’m in my romance era and this was a fun read! The chemistry between Percy and Kane was there and believable. A slow burn for adults in the medical profession. I loved seeing the unique narrator at the beginning of the book and at the beginning of each chapter. It’s like he’s giving you advice you can use in your actual everyday life. It correlates to the real world.

The fake relationship trope is always a fun read and this didn’t disappoint. The one thing I found to be slightly off putting was the miscommunication between Kane and Percy. I just keep yelling in my head “tell him/her how you feel!!!!!”.

I would recommend Operation Love Match to all my Romance genre loving besties.
