Drenched for the Mountain Man: Mountain Man Summer

Rate this book
I came to Lone Mountain to prove one thing.

That I wasn’t afraid anymore. Not of adventure. Not of trying new things. Even whitewater rafting.

Turns out? Maybe I should’ve been.

Because ten minutes into the trip, I get launched out of the raft, inhale half the river, lose a shoe, and nearly drown.

And who rescues me?

None other than Bigfoot.

Well, not exactly Bigfoot, but he could pass for one.

Garrick was a giant of a mountain man who waded into the rapids, dragged me back to shore like a soggy raccoon, and immediately started bossing me around like almost drowning was somehow my fault.

He has rough hands, too many muscles, and a permanent scowl that somehow only makes him hotter. He acts like he wants to be left alone, grunting like a caveman every time I open my mouth.

He acts like he wants to be left alone.

Too bad for him.

Because if there’s one thing I learned after almost drowning?

Life’s too short not to take chances.

Even on a mountain man who grumbles every time I talk… I’m starting to wonder if almost getting swept down the river was the luckiest thing that ever happened to me.

Drenched for the Mountain Man is the perfect story if you want to heat up your summer in the most delightful way. Curvy girl who needs to feel empowered, grumpy, broody hero who is one hundred percent alpha... and enough heat to melt the ice in your sweet iced tea.

Drenched for the Mountain Man is a fun, heartwarming romance that perfectly blends laugh-out-loud moments, swoon-worthy chemistry, and a reminder that life's biggest adventures often begin when everything goes completely off course. From the very first rescue to the final page, this story had me smiling, laughing, and cheering for Amy and Garrick.

Amy's journey is about far more than surviving a rafting accident. She's determined to stop letting fear dictate her life, and even after a terrifying experience, she refuses to let it steal her courage. Her upbeat personality, quick wit, and determination make her impossible not to root for, especially as she slowly begins to realize just how strong she's always been.

Then there's Garrick—the gruff mountain man with a permanent scowl, a heart of gold, and protective instincts that kick in the moment Amy tumbles into his life. He may pretend he wants nothing more than peace and solitude, but every thoughtful gesture reveals just how deeply he cares. Watching his carefully ordered world unravel because of one endlessly chatty woman is both hilarious and incredibly endearing.

The grumpy-sunshine dynamic shines throughout the book. Amy's playful banter constantly chips away at Garrick's defenses, while his quiet devotion gives her the confidence to keep pushing past her fears. Their conversations are filled with humor, warmth, and plenty of sparks, making every interaction feel natural and entertaining.

I also loved how the romance grows through small acts of kindness and unwavering support. Garrick never tries to change Amy—he simply gives her the space to believe in herself. In return, Amy reminds him that life becomes richer when you open your heart to someone willing to stand beside you through every challenge.

The beautiful mountain setting adds another layer of charm, making Lone Mountain feel like the perfect backdrop for two people discovering that healing often comes from the places they least expect. Between the breathtaking scenery, the protective mountain man, and the delightful humor woven throughout the story, this book is easy to get lost in.

If you enjoy grumpy sunshine romances, protective mountain men, rescue stories, curvy leading ladies, playful banter, and romances filled with laughter, heart, and undeniable chemistry, Drenched for the Mountain Man is one you won't want to miss. Joann Baker and Patricia Mason deliver a feel-good love story that reminds us sometimes the moment we think we've lost our footing is the very moment life leads us to exactly where we're meant to be.

The river nearly took her. Bigfoot decided to keep her.

Amy comes to Lone Mountain determined to prove she's braver than the fears that have shaped her life. What starts as a challenge quickly turns into disaster when a rafting trip goes wrong, leaving her injured, shaken, and in the care of a mountain man who seems just as dangerous to her heart as the river ever was.

Garrick has built a quiet life defined by routine, distance, and solitude. He likes it that way. But the moment he pulls Amy from the water, something shifts. Her endless chatter, stubborn optimism, and refusal to back down push against every wall he's spent years building. The closer they get, the harder it becomes to ignore the place she's starting to claim in his world.

As Amy recovers, attraction quickly deepens into something neither of them expects. Every teasing exchange, protective gesture, and stolen moment pulls them closer together. What begins as an unexpected rescue becomes a chance to face old fears, embrace vulnerability, and discover that taking a chance on love might be the bravest thing either of them can do.

Amy's growing confidence challenges Garrick's carefully guarded solitude, while his quiet devotion gives her the safety to embrace both vulnerability and desire. Their relationship blends playful teasing, fierce protection, and intense chemistry into a partnership built on trust and acceptance.

An ultra-steamy, grumpy sunshine, mountain man, rescue romance with a curvy heroine, instant attraction, playful banter, and fiercely protective devotion, exploring courage, trust, vulnerability, self-acceptance, healing, desire, emotional safety, and belonging. It’s about stepping beyond fear, learning to be fully seen, and discovering that the right person doesn't ask you to become someone else. They simply make you brave enough to become more of yourself.

The Elevator Pitch: After a terrifying accident on a Montana river, a woman determined to become braver finds herself under the watchful eye of a gruff mountain recluse who seems far more dangerous to her heart than the rapids ever were. What begins as an unexpected rescue turns into a charged battle of teasing, trust, and undeniable attraction as two people who never planned on needing anyone start to let each other in. Between fear and desire, solitude and connection, they discover that the biggest leap isn't surviving the fall, it's risking everything on the person waiting to catch you.

Heat Level: 🔥🔥🔥 Ultra-Steamy / Erotic Romance

Drenched in more ways than one for this HOT mountain man!

Amy comes to Lone Mountain to conquer her Brave Things list. She always said maybe next time and always tried to play it safe. After taking swim lessons at the YMCA she books a whitewater rafting trip. Amy gets ejected from the raft and separated from the rest of her group where she is rescued by Garrick, who she affectionately nicknames Bigfoot.

Garrick has built a quiet, solitary life on the mountain. Since he has the knowledge and experience, he is volunteered by Jared, Amy’s tour guide, to watch her while she recuperates from her mild concussion and injuries. This is when the close-proximity, rom-com shenanigans really begin.

This author duo can write a novella like nobody else can for me. This spicy, grumpy-sunshine, curvy heroine romance can be read in one sitting. Although less than 100 pages, you get awesome character interactions and complete story development with the included two epilogues.

This is part of a multi-author Mountain Man Summer 2026 series and can be read as a stand alone with no cliffhanger.

The water has a vendetta against her!

Amy is hilarious, she uses words as a defense, as a coping mechanism, to stop the panic and to try and do the impossible...pry a smile out of Lawson.
Lawson thought he liked the quiet, the silence, the solitude, but the second Amy is swept into his stretch of the river, he knows the river has brought him a gift. She's loud, bubbly and chatters non-stop, things he expected would irritate him but surprisingly he finds them endearing.
She's clumsy and a clutz, she has no filter and says exactly what she's thinking, you cannot help but like her!
Unfortunately there is a formatting error, every time "eli" appears in a word it has been replaced by Lawson, for example:
dLawsonghted instead of delighted
dLawsonberate - deliberate
bLawsoneved - believed
and more.
Obviously this is a little confusing and frustrating but once I realised what the error is I was able to work out what each word should be, it just stops the flow of the book.
I read this on Kindle Unlimited.

I loved Drenched for the Mountain Man by Joann Bakjer and Patricia Mason What a great addition to the Mountain Man Summer 2026 series. This well-written, heart-warming, and engaging short read hooked me from the start. The wonderful characters with their chemistry, humor, and bantering adds to this story and to the journey of Amy and Garrick. I loved them from their first meet. Amy’s attempt at trying something new, is faced how wrong things can go. Garrick, with his loner, protective nature is there to provide safety even though he is reluctant to get involved. I love how Amy and Garrick began to realize that they do complement each other and then continue to find their happy ever after.

Great summer read. This series combines lonely, grumpy mountain men with their innocent sweet forever love. For years Amy has put off doing what she was afraid to do by saying maybe next time. She has finally decided to do something about it and booked herself a white water rafting trip. Amy knew it was a bad idea as soon as she stepped into the raft. Garrick liked to spend his quiet days fishing. He heard the screaming and saw the woman struggling to survive the river. He didn’t hesitate to jump in to save her and also saving himself.

Amy went on the raft ride to check off an item on her bucket list BUT things flipped the script

Garrick was fishing on the bank and heard a scream then saw someone flailing in the water. Never one to stand by and just watch he reached out to snag Amy and carry her to get medical help. Jared the owner of the rafting business volunteered Garrick to do concussion watch over Amy. Amy was thoroughly entranced by her hero! She dubbed Garrick Bigfoot and kept up a steady stream of chatter filling his oh so quiet home with noise. Initially Garrick admired her curves but grew to love her sassy banter and he decided to keep Amy. I laughed and cried at the eviction.

It was entertaining, funny: drowning (but definitely scary), and a rescue, the heroine's humor through all of it, and the hero contemplating life choices since he met her, for better or worse.
I'm not sure how to feel about her giving him a pet name that the hero dislikes; maybe she should have taken his feelings into account and dropped it.

It was so sweet and funny - Bigfoot and his Minnow.
Amy just wanted to be brave and to do brave things. But rafting with psychopaths 😁 went wrong.
Saved by her Bigfoot (aka Garrick) was the best part of the trip.
Too chatty heroine and aggressively economical with words hero. Loved the bantering.
Amazing short read to enjoy.

A really nice summer read! Amy has booked an adventure trip to Montana. She is tired of always putting things off and never following g through on things. She goes on a rafting trip and ends up in the water. Garrick is out fishing and saves her. She ends up with a concussion and cut leg. He offers to let her recover at his cabin. They are total opposites that end up attracted to each other.

This was a good short story and is in a multi-author series. There was fear, then self doubt, instalove and happiness.

Garrick meets Amy when he literally pulled her from a river that has rapids.
