Helios

Rate this book
This is a full-length dark romance between a hotheaded Greek biker and the innocent girl who’s hopelessly in love with him.
Past betrayals have taught Helios Andreadis, the President of the Afxisi, to be aloof and distrustful. But when the young, tomboyish, camera-wielding MJ Cartwright skids into his life, the mercurial Greek billionaire biker finds himself strangely possessive and obsessed.
Although Helios is determined not to let MJ’s “secret crush” take his woman away, he isn’t ready to put a name to his feelings either. To do so would make him vulnerable, and that he would never allow to happen…even if it means having to hurt MJ instead.

Note: This novel was previously released as a three-part serial (Swish, Burn, Click).

I have to premise this review by saying I will be spoiling this book. I will hide it due to the spoilers but I will reiterate again: Don't read this review if you don't want to know what happens.

Okay, so just to give you a little insight into my reaction to this story I had to create a brand new shelf and name it never to be read again. This book has so much going on that the reader is unable to keep the storyline straight.

It begins with the heroine being in love with the "hero" and wanting to volunteer in his clubhouse (read frat house for "bikers"). She has no idea what she's going to do but the "hero" and his two best friends make an exception in her case and let her stay in the house while she plays housekeeper. The hero, of course, can't be attracted to her but doesn't want her to be attracted to anyone else. He keeps her at a distance as he believes she is in love with another biker. Then he falls for her, they get down and dirty, and he ruins it all by being a jerk. She tries to demonstrate her love by doing the one thing that absolutely terrifies her and all it gets her is a trip to the hospital.

Then, as if the emotionally trauma these two characters carry around like beloved blankets, there is the human trafficking aspect that comes into play. Our heroine is abducted by some hideously disfigured bad guy (I mean human trafficking, drugs, etc.) because her step-daddy (who she thinks is her actual father) is so angry at his deceased wife for cheating on him. She is now held captive and tortured (in so many horrific ways that I don't even want to think about them all) and the only possible way for the hero to save her is to go to an underground kink club and become a dom to the bad guy's daughter. No idea how that is supposed to work or why that is the only way to find her but okay. Then there are several scenes of him getting down and dirty with the daughter because, ya know, the heroine and all. He eventually finds her but not before she is raped.

This was not at all the story I thought it would be when I read the blurb and the excerpt.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

This book, previously having been three novellas, ruined me after I read this. It brought on so much drama and emotion that half the time I was crying if not laughing at the ridiculously embarrassing moments MJ had with Helios. Their story was intense because of the dark things both love interests experienced, but the near ending of this broke my heart to pieces. I think I also hated them for a bit before their Happily Ever After finally came.

This is a recommended read for the hardcore romantics, but I warn you that it is one of Marian Tee's darkest stories. The writing is amazing at pulling you in and forgetting that you're reading a book rather than watching a mini show in your mind. The characters are humorous, the villains are beyond dastardly, and the heroine is a breath of fresh air, even in her darker moments.

WTF?

Ok, I have read Marian tee before, but none of her books have ever been this intense. I liked her style. This book makes me reconsider. I should have stopped reading after swish. After that thugs get weird, like the author just threw in plot points to keep the story moving and tied it all together later. I don't understand what the hell happened. This book is not for the faint of heart, and I don't mean in a fun carnal way, this book goes beyond the bounds of normal. What the characters do to "save" each other is horrible. It was awful to even contemplate some of the things that happen in burn and click. And if those events actually occurred I highly doubt MJ would ever leave the sanctity of a mental ward. I believe in the power of true love, but this is far beyond anything I would remotely call true love.

When I first came across this book, it was a recommendation from a book site. Helios was the first book I'd read from Marian Tee and I instantly fell in love with not only the book but her writing style. The author drew me in with her unique writing styles, she made you forget you were reading a book. The entire time I was reading this book I was on edge waiting and hoping something would happen. My emotions were all over the place while I read this book, I was either crying for the heroine, laughing at the awkward moments that all girls seem to go through or disbelief for what was occurring. Let me clarify by saying this book isn't for the faint of heart. Helios is filled with drama, raw emotions, darkness, loyalty and love. MJ is the typical girl we can all relate to. Most of us have all done embarrassing if not ridiculous things regarding a crush, MJ is no different. We all have our version of a dream guy and MJ decided to take the steps in pursing her dream guy. She had a few embarrassing moment with Helios that made made me laugh. I could visually picture the scenes as I was reading it. As the story develops, it becomes intense and dark (which is my fav). The characters have to overcome so many obstacles from villains that bring a whole new definition to word cruel to heartbreaking moments. This book shattered my heart repeatedly. When I thought these two characters were done and couldn't go through anything else, some worse would happen and my heart would shatter all over. These two went through so much to finally be together. They lost pieces of themselves and did WHATEVER was necessary to get the other back. I know this may sound messed up but I would love to have a guy fight for me the way Helios did for MJ. Helios is absolutely swoon worthy. He's a god like, freaking gorgeous yet totally attainable guy. He remind me of a turtle caramel chocolate; he hard on the outside buy all gooey once you crack him. I'm happy these two got their Happily Ever After. There's no couple that deserved it more than these two.

I received a complimentary review copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Swish: Very strange courtship dance between Helios and MJ. It is heartbreaking to see just how much pain a person can endure before they call it quits. A very moving story.
Burn: It's a B**** when you can't stop hurting one another. If you finely get back together will it be better? I don't know. We will see if and or when.
Click: Very hard story to read. What MJ was put through. You would not wish on your worst enemy. Very hard. Helios went through Hell too. In a different way, but still Hell. Very good story and I can't wait to see what will happen with Krelion.

This is definitely my most favorite book from Marian Tee!

MJ is a typical girl almost everyone can relate to- who doesn't dream of getting their dream guy right? And doing everything to get him? I know I would! Lol

Most of MT's leading heroes are described as gods-to-die-for, ethereal yet someone you can still hope to get to. Although each book was too short again for my liking, the story build-up was easy to follow and catch on.

The use of drama and comedy- which is the author's forte, is once again amazing here. You can perfectly picture the the difference and likeness of MJ and Helios and still cheer for them all the way through. You can always rely on MT's skillful play with words and timing.

Helios and MJ are young and they have been through a lot. I'll make concessions for age and trauma. I felt a little whiplash with all the undecisive behavior. First Helios wants her but he doesn't want her. Is madly addicted to her, but puts her in situations to be humiliated or even physically hurt. He starts to shape up and now MJ is over it. (Can't blame her.) When she does give him an ultimatum and he goes through with it, it isn't enough. By this point they feel pretty toxic to each other. Throw in some craziness with Greek mafia and a cartel boss after MJ, I felt like a tiny ship in a raging sea. The author has a good voice, but maybe this one isn't the best example of it.

Awesome dark college romance. The main characters are outstanding. Helios is a billionaire biker of his own making who also runs an underground bike races. MJ wanted to meet Helios. Once they met in person her life was never the same again. There is some sexual depravities, as far as I’m concerned. The characters are superbly written as is the storyline. I received a complimentary copy of the book via Booksprout but chose to write a review.

Helios and MJ’s story is an emotional rollercoaster that will have you all over the place reading their journey and the path it takes to get them to their happily ever after. It is a descriptively well written story that have you feeling like you are right there as it unfolds allowing you to feel and see the emotions of these two dynamic characters.

This book left me a bit unsettled. It is definitely not for every reader. There is much drama and some very intense darkness here. I was not a fan of some of the events and twists that this book offered. I really liked the concept though and the writing was good. This is my candid, volitional review.

This book sounded intriguing and I was eager to read it. Unfortunately this was not the book for me. I don’t want to give a bad review just because it’s not what I enjoy. I’m sure there will be plenty of people who enjoy it.

Sweet and heart breaking all at the same time

I love the two main characters. It was just so much angst they went through. M.J. went through so much trauma to get her happy ending. I think the reader needs to be prepared for a darker content in this book

This book was dark and the author should add trigger alert to the blurb. The storyline had potential but I felt that the author spent too much time on the dark part of the story. It was an okay read.

This one was hard to read. It’s emotional, it’s twisted, and so very worth it. Grab some tissues and make sure you have plenty of time. Your not going to want to put it down.

Appreciate your imagination snd creativity. This was too dark for me. Left a bad taste. Romance part on. Dark part was too too vile.

Helios knows what he wants but is unsure of who MJ wants. He thinks she is there for a crush and is determined to make her his. This emotional rollercoaster is a ride with plenty of ups and downs.

I loved this book but then again, I love reading about MC clubs, especially when they have extremely hot bikers trying to prove that not all bikers are bad!

Okay, sooo I picked this book because I liked their interactions with a little bit of their story mentioned in 'Kellion' and I thought "they seem sane enough let's read their story" and with the touch of kidnapping and the H ending up knight in the shining armour. Why Not!

Damn that moment because... WHAT THE FUCK!!! UGH!!! (excuse my french)

'Swish' was not bad although his jealousy was a bit stretched out.

'Burn' was okay but the normal guy act didn't make any sense as it wasn't specified who took over from him, the way I read it in 'Kellion' (the party and all that)

Then came 'Click'... ugh this was the book that just FUCKED with my brain and on Monday when you're already so pissed off at the world.

So, yeah I am giving it fucking 2 star!!!!!!
