Two strangers discover a love that transcends time in this unforgettable new romance starring Emily Bader (People We Meet on Vacation) and Lewis Pullman (Remarkably Bright Creatures).
Celeste Varick has a simple plan. Charter a plane to a remote island on Lake Michigan, hike into the woods, find the last remaining wormholes on earth, and ya know, walk into one. For reasons!
Okay, maybe not quite simple, given she has no idea where she’ll land in the timeline, or what she’ll need to do to fix a past she can't move on from. Perhaps she could use a little help…
The only other person on the island is Everett Ludlow, who just happened to book the same charter to find the same wormholes at the same exact time as Celeste. He doesn’t usually believe in fate, but he’s desperate for a chance to save someone he loves by jumping into the future.
So maybe they’ll band together to brave the wilderness and find the wormholes. Two lost souls tempting fate—and each other, as it turns out—have to be better than one?
But it’s hard to say what’s jumping into the unknown to fix her past and his future or staying in the present and taking a chance on happiness together.
Cara Bastone is the author of Ready or Not. She lives and writes in Brooklyn with her husband, sons, and an almost-goldendoodle. Her goal with her work is to find the swoon in ordinary love stories. She's been a fan of the romance genre since she found a grocery bag filled with her grandmother's old Harlequin Romances when she was in high school. She's a fangirl for pretzel sticks, long walks through Prospect Park, and love stories featuring men who aren't hobbled by their own masculinity.
This story highlights a moment that makes me smile every time: that moment when you meet someone that lights your spark. The conversation and banter were top tier and left me smiling the whole way. And then the special sci-fi twists and turns made it unique. And what’s better? The narrators selected brought this to life so beautifully !! Adding to that greatness were the ambient noises that created such a cool atmosphere. Definitely a “headphones in BOTH ears” listen. Short, sweet and thoroughly enjoyable.
The audio production was SO good and immersive that I felt like I was in the wilderness with them. I love a nerdy romance story and this had a dash of sci-fi/magical realism. These very likable main characters had great banter and flirting. Cute and fun and I wanted more time with them!
That was SO much fun! For a short story, this was packed full of so many emotions and, honestly, I should not be surprised because it’s Cara Bastone. The characters were so much fun and their banter was off the charts. Like, some of the best I’ve ever experienced, but I think it was also elevated by the narrators. I know their famous actors and all but I need them to narrate every book they possibly can. I was giggling, screaming, laughing, and crying during my time listening and I think it’s just a testimate to the level of talent that went into this to be able to feel all of that in such a short amount of time. Truly, this was amazing and it’s something that i could see myself enjoying over and over again. I need more!!
4.5 I haven’t finished a single book in 10 days so I had to pull out all the stops (Cara Bastone). As with every one of her books this made my chest ache BAD!!! It was a sci-fi romcom but her writing is always so beautiful regardless of the sub-genre that it just makes me emotional. And I’ll always eat up a in any universe type story!! The listening experience was so immersive and the narrators all killed it (I loved hearing queen Emily). Sci-fi isn’t really my thing so I didn’t connect a lot with the science portions and also I know this is an Audible original but the kindle/audiobook mention felt a little too on the nose/advertisment-y so that took me out of it for a sec. But otherwise this was perfect and helped my slump
emily bader and lewis pullman as audiobook narrators is what the world needed. i cannot emphasize enough how good their voices not only sound together, but how natural their banter sounded. not to mention its duet narration, AND has sound effects. i had high expectations going in, and they exceeded them!
the plot was interesting! it has a scifi element with the wormholes and whatnot, but i wouldn’t even say that’s the main plot of the story. yes it’s the end goal, but the audiobook was literally just the characters being forced into close proximity with each other and bantering for 4.5 hours straight. i loved every second. it even got some tears out of me at the end!
the only thing i wish happened was a smooch 😤 and also not a full 5★ bc i don’t think the science with the wormholes made total sense but i’m also just an average joe so my opinions on that mean very little
This was a fun, quick listen on audible. But the premise and how the book played out could have used 200 more pages. It’s not that the story isn’t told succinctly enough, it’s just that the premise was so interesting, I’d have enjoyed a much longer read.
The narrators are fantastic! It felt like I was listening to a movie or like I was on a Disney ride. I feel like it should have been longer though - it felt too fast.
So cute and immersive. I highly recommend that all audio fans give Cara Bastone’s audible originals a try. They’re not quite audiobooks — I like to call them “audio plays” — it’s basically 100% dialogue with sound effects and full production throughout. Honestly it’s like watching a play without the visual element and they are soooo good, entertaining, and different. They’re typically shorter than a regular novel but longer than a short story (but they do give off short story / anthology vibes imo).
This story falls into the same world as Maybe This Time and Better Luck Next Time, mixing romance with time travel. They are easy to follow and entertaining, and usually narrated by celebrities (this one has Emily Bader from PWMOV and Lewis Pullman from Remarkably Bright Creatures — A+ performances from both).
This was so freaken fun ! The narration, the writing made this so enjoyable that I didn’t wanna stop, I was finding excuses to do chores or other hobbies so I could keep listening. It felt like hunting for worm holes was their first date and as that date continued it’s like they each knew they had found their person by
I love how aware Everette and how he was able to pick fun at himself, banter with Celeste and be a green flag all over and Celeste was such a fun and lovely fmc, I just wanna wrap her up in bubble wrap and give her a big hug.
I love how their stories tied in together at the end, the science wasn’t hard to follow at all so if you’re worried about that, please don’t be!
I will be listening to the rest of her audible exclusives 🥰
time travel + wormholes... say less. cara wins the prize for being the very first author, ever, to get me to download a book, then start + finish said book on it's pub day. i literally can not get enough of her audible exclusives + the use of dolby atmos for it's immersive sound effects. as usual the narrators/actors gave a full-on production. p.s. i super loved the surprise nod to her last book, better luck next time.
Cara Bastone does it once again! Not only are these audiobooks delightful and immersive. The stories -even though short- pack lots of emotions.
The characters connection was palpable from the very beginning without feeling forced. Don’t want to spoil the story for anybody, but it helps listening to the previous 2 audiobooks to understand some of the paranormal portion of it.
Celeste and Everett left me wanting to know more! But I feel I got to know them and enjoy them.
UNPOPULAR OPINION: Celeste was so INCREDIBLY ANNOYING I almost didn’t finish this book! She. Would. Not. Shut. UP!!! I get what Cara Bastone was trying to do with the character, but for me, Celeste was just TEAM. TOO. MUCH. TALKING!!! She really WAS “exhausting.” Other than that, a decent story. I loved Everett, of course.
I felt like I was evesdropping on people's lives and conversations and then every once in a while there was a crazy plot twist of a worm hole. I cried through the last 15 minutes of the book. One day I'm going to binge the whole series from start to finish to see all the connections close together. For now I'm just reading them the day they're released pretty much.
this reminded so much of my boyfriend & i🥹 literally couldn’t pull myself away from it. cara has a way of making you fall in love with her characters immediately. it’s been so long since i’ve enjoy a romance
What a weird little sci-fi rom-com! I absolutely adored it. The chemistry between Lewis Pullman and Emily Bader was off the charts—hands down the best I’ve heard on Audible! At this point, I’d happily let these two narrate my grocery list. Cute, steamy, funny, and ridiculously charming.
Oh, Cara Bastone wrote it? Immediate listen. Immediate read. Sign me up. Will buy. Take my money.
World-class banter. Excellent meet cute. Ignore the slight cheese. I laughed and teared up. And the narrators! I could listen to them all day. This was so much fun.
This story was great! Just as funny and heartwarming as the others in the series. It is such a ridiculous premise but it somehow works. This story tied in beautifully with the others. I’m not generally into sci-fi but this is a great series.
One more favourite from Cara Bastone! Thank you so much Cara for such a fun and engaging story! The actors did an excellent job! And Einstein is the best...!
This story was so, so good! I love her books and this one did not disappoint. It's a sweet romance full of banter and feel-good moments. Highly recommend.
