Pril Jasmine Blinds thought she had it all mapped out. Love, loyalty, and a forever stamped with a ring. But when betrayal checks the outbox, she’s forced to swallow the truth that sometimes the forever stamp isn’t secure on the letter of love. Some pains don’t announce themselves right away… They settle deep, linger quietly, and show up when you least expect it. Confronting the truth can be hard, but it was nothing some packing bins couldn’t take care of. Living in Charleston, South Carolina, where everything looks picture-perfect on the outside, Pril learns that both love and life can carry invisible battles that test her strength, body, and what she thinks she’s worthy of.
Then there’s solid, attentive Tafari Seasons. A man who notices the things Pril tries to hide, including the days when her smile doesn’t quite reach her eyes and her body moves a little slower. His love is protective with a steel, sharp edge that doesn’t flinch when things get thick. Tafari doesn’t just want the easy version of her—he wants the good, bad, ugly, and painful. He’s ten toes down through the moments she feels at war with herself, meeting her pain with patience and a loyalty that borders on subtle unhingement. Whatever tried to break her before doesn’t stand a chance with Tafari in the picture.
A Mighty Good Man is about loving through what can’t always be seen, healing that isn’t pretty but necessary, and a woman learning that her softness and her strength can exist at the same time. Sometimes the right love doesn’t erase the pain. It stands beside you in it and refuses to let you face it alone.

This story was mid. I did like the Geechie talk and the premise of the story. Pril had been in a long relationship with fkboy Derrick whom claimed to love her. However, he didn't love her endometriosis condition. Always finding a reason to be out of town, the 🥷🏾 gave her the bare damn minimum. Come to find out he was leading a double life. She eventually meets Man Man, a restauranteur and fisherman he claims her out the gate and shows her what real love and support looks like. The story had time jumps with some time later, a while later, a short time later 😒 The exes were also annoying af. I didnt love the execution.
This book was picked for our book club read and the MMC did not play about the FMC. I love that.. overall good read.. this book had some moments that made me laugh.
(3.5⭐️) Tafari definitely was a man’s man. I loved how he didn’t play about Pril or play with her either (because Pril definitely tried it at times 😭). Tafari showed up for her in a way that felt intentional and consistent, and I appreciated the way he supported and loved her through her struggles.
This story also focuses on representation for Endometriosis and the impact it can have on everyday life, relationships, and reproductive health. Pril struggled with pain, shame, and fear surrounding her condition, so I appreciated seeing those realities woven into the story.
The book is written in dialect, which the author does mention at the beginning. I thought I’d eventually adjust to it, but after a while it became a little distracting for me and sometimes pulled me out of the story.
There was a smidgen of drama (outside of the relationship), but overall this was more of a low-angst read with a supportive romance at its center.
Yes yes. This was definitely the one. Intentional love gets me every time! Tafari was everything for Pril. Even when she was struggling with side effects of Endometriosis, he was very present and understanding. Love them. I would recommend.
Mel Dau ain’t wrote a book I haven’t loved!! A Mighty Good Man is another top tier read!! Pril really had me in my feelings because all women carry that fear a man seeing ALL of her and not accepting the not so neat and pretty parts! Tafari was clear from the beginning that he wasn’t just any man, he was Pril’s man! He loved her with no constraints or conditions! This was such a great read!
Pril's medical struggles will resonate with so many women.
Then there's take charge swoon worthy MMC in Tafari, that has me smiling and kicking my feet under the covers hours after the read. Because, what a man, what a man. What a man, what a mighty good man!
Mel Dau excels at writing romance characters who feel larger than life yet deeply human, and the leads in A Mighty Good Man are no exception.
🦸🏾♂️The Hero (The "Mighty Good Man"): He is the ultimate blueprint for a modern alpha male. Physically imposing, tatted, and heavily grounded in his street-smart authority, he initially comes across as intimidating. However, his true character shines through his protective instincts. He isn't just "good" in a standard, predictable way; he is a man of action, loyalty, and deep emotional depth who treats his woman’s heart as something sacred to protect at all costs.
🦸🏾♀️The Heroine: Far from a damsel in distress, she is a fierce, independent woman who has built high walls to protect herself from past trauma and betrayal. Her journey in this book is beautiful because she doesn't lose her edge; rather, she finds a safe space to finally let her guard down. The dynamic of her standing toe-to-toe with a powerful man—rather than being overshadowed by him—makes her incredibly compelling.
👩🏾⚖️The Verdict
The character development handles the "gritty street life meets soft, intentional love" trope perfectly. The connection between the leads is scorching hot, built on intense dialogue, mutual respect, and a protective "us against the world" mentality. If you love alpha heroes who stand firmly on business and the strong women who match their energy, these characters will completely captivate you.
I’ll admit, this book almost lost me before it even started. Between the author’s note and a prologue that felt a bit chaotic, I wasn’t sure what I had gotten myself into. Once I settled into the story, though, I found myself pleasantly surprised.
Pril’s story begins with heartbreak when she discovers her longtime boyfriend has been living a double life. Rather than dragging out the drama, she chooses herself and walks away. Two years later, she meets Tafari through mutual friends, and what follows is a sweet, steady romance built on respect, patience, and genuine care.
What I appreciated most was Tafari. He loved Pril at her best and stood by her through the challenges of endometriosis and everything that came with it. Their relationship felt mature and grounded, even when her ex tried to bring chaos back into her life.
This wasn’t a jaw-dropping, can’t-put-it-down kind of read, but it was a well-written love story with likable characters, believable struggles, and a satisfying happily ever after. If you’re looking for romance with drama, family dynamics, and a hero who actually shows up when it matters, this one is worth picking up.
Truly enjoyed this book! The title is fitting because Tafari was a might good man indeed!!!! Loved the accent dialogue in the book.
Pril went from ain’t shit nigga to a mighty good man. Tafari did not play with his intention when he pursue Pril. From day one he was everything. Pril got to experience everything her last relationship wasn’t.
One of my favorite gem from the book was “A man should treat you like a queen first which means that “he understands you have boss capabilities and can be a leader. He knows that you can handle your own business without him. Next, he needs to treat you like a princess. “That means that although he knows you’re a queen, he also acknowledges that you are a sensitive being that deserves to be treated softly with compassion. He should be your doorway into a soft girl era. After that, he treats you with the basic human respect that everyone deserves. Last, but not least he should treat you like a slut. He should be willing to fulfill your sexual desires and smut you out with no remorse,”
The joy I have for Pril can’t be contained! When folks say I hope you get what you deserve it ought to be like how her life ended up going. She went from being so calm and calm while dropping a zero to on cloud nine and over the moon with a hero honey! Tefari was that man exes hated they fumbled and all women dreamed of having. He was loyal, funny, fine, and all about you once he had you. He was indeed a good man. He was available, understanding, patient, and encouraging through all of Pril’s concerns and problems. GOD blessed her double for all her past troubles! Tefari showed her what it’s like to be in the company, comfort, and love of a mighty good man. Another 10/10 from one of favorites Mel’s pen game is truly on another level.
Awesome story from start to finish. Pril and Tafari's chemistry was fire 🔥, from their 1st meeting. Tafari was on a mission. He was the man that was chosen by God for her. Tafari showed Pril what and how a good man looks, acts, shows up for them through everything, and loves. He was intentional about everything that involved his Lil one, the good & at its worst. He did not play, PERIODT!
There is a reason for everything thing that happens in life, and Derrick's time had an expiration date stamped on it, in regards to his relationship with Pril. He actually sounded and acted like a crazy ass. No excuse for his actions of infidelity and expectations of her staying w/him.
I loved traveling with them on their journey of and through love.
Pril met Tafari two years after ending a disastrous relationship with her ex of eight years. As soon as Tafari met her, he knew that she was who he was supposed to be with. Tafari and Pril were such an adorable couple. I loved their banter and how they communicated with one another. I also loved their group of friends and the camaraderie they shared amongst each other. I didn't feel sorry for Pril's ex, Derrick. He should have kept his 🍑 where he was. Tafari was indeed a mighty good man and was just the man that Pril needed. Mel Dau has written another great book that I highly recommend.
The chemistry in this story is absolute fire from the very first page. It delivers the ultimate alpha hero. He is tatted up, fiercely protective, and completely unapologetic about handling his business and taking care of his woman. He is the absolute epitome of "a mighty good man", dominant, deeply loving, and completely swoon-worthy.
Because it’s a shorter romance novella, the pacing is fast and the drama is high, but the connection never feels rushed. It gives you that perfect blend of urban grit, deep emotional vulnerability, and pure romance that makes it impossible to put down. It's the perfect, fast-paced escape.
Tafari was the definition of a mighty good man. He showed up and showed out for his lil one, Pril. He was all in from the first introduction and I loved that for her.
Pril was able to get rid of dead weight in Derrick once Chasity tried to hit her with some Barbara this is Shirley type stuff. Charity and Derrick were delusional at best.
I was happy to see Pril get her happily ever after and a man that was standing ten toes down behind her and proved to her even before they became engaged or married that he was all in til death do us part.
When they say your life will never work with the wrong person, they mean that and that exactly what Pril found out!! Tafari showed her exactly what they meant when people said that, everything that went wrong in her previous relationship went right in her relationship with Tafari. And he definitely didn’t play about her.
If you love a Mel Dau book, you are going to love this book cause it’s the perfect mix of drama, love, laughs and Mel’s Alexa AKA Ziggy, who made his book debut!! So go ahead and add this book to your TBR!!
Yes....Yes...I love the family. I love Pril's mom but man man's mom👀👀a delight. Endometriosis is real and every one has a different battle with it. Support is real and needed in all things. Pril was dealing with so many obstacles that is was blinding. Now Derrick ....the audacity. Chasity the ....audacity 🧐🧐🧐. All I can say is that it had to be done. The besties I love. Your village is critical and necessary. However, they have to be true. I scooched in and loved it🔥🔥🔥💯💯
It was a great book. I love how the plot developed. Pril had to go through the bad to get to the good. Her future was on its way. I love her and her circle. The women were great support. Trafic was a handsome man who knew what to do. He had a bad apple, too, but once he got what he needed, it was all good. Sometimes, God has to take you through something to get where he wants you to be.
Mel Dau, as always you have given us some good food. You took a subject that can be very traumatic for some you gave truth, hope and solutions. I love how you give us lessons from situations that could turn chaotic instead of being a good thing. Thank you for giving a good woman a good man. Not perfect but my Lord so needed. Can't wait for the next lesson🤗🤗🤗🤗
Mel rarely let me down and this one was no different. Endometriosis is a difficult topic and she wrote it with grace, education, and support. I enjoyed every page of Pril and Tafari story.
I loved both mothers as they had me cracking up. Tafari did too when it came to him in the bathroom with her. I laughed so hard because, why.
Read this and experience how you should be treated as a woman.
I’m so glad I scootched on in. I really enjoyed this book. Derrick not only had Pril messed up he had me messed up too! Cus who did he think he was! I love how she didn’t allow her condition to make her feel stuck. Tafari is one of one!!!! Thas a good man. I like how he didn’t allow his past to keep him from being open to love. He stood on nothing but business. This story was very enjoyable to read and very relatable. 10/10 Highly recommend
Per usual, Mel's books just flow. It is all love and happiness with a tiny bit of crazy.
I love Pril and Trafai together. She was a good woman and he was a good man, so it was a no brainer for them to be together. And getting rid of the f@#$ ninja Derrick was a plus. Pril was able to find love unconditionally, and to have two beautiful babies. Life is good for the Seasons.
Ms. Dau has yet to disappoint me. Tafari is that guy! Solid, dependable, and sexy. Just what Pril needed. I appreciated how this book touches on the suffering of endometriosis in blank women and gore often our pain is ignored. This was a solid read which I’ve come to expect from this author. And who doesn’t love how she weaves her previous stories into her current ones? Top tier world building.
HE IS A GOOD MAN SAVANNAH!!! This book was everything, Mel dau did her big one again this just an overall story of betrayal, loss, deceived, unsupportiveness, and so much more from a man name Derrick took advantage of Pril and lossed her. BAAABBBBY, she met a real one in Teflari who showed her how to be properly care for and loved. I can’t believe Derrick went out like that, but he did.
This was a Beautiful love story. The season’s Mr Man Man Has met his queen Pril.and He showed her What a real southern gentleman is all about. God has placed them both at the right space at the right time. It’s been said Southern County Men are Better .. I will meet me one When I go on vacation soon. And I travel down to Charleston South carolina for the famous low geechie garlic crabs. 🦀 I love seafood.. And the Geechie country lingo..
Pril learned that her fiancé had a family with another woman so she set him free. She wasn’t looking a man when she met Tafari Seasons. Tafari showed her how a man treats a lady. He has to overcome the trauma Pril experienced in the prior relationship but he was up to the task. I loved this book because it was real. Pril had health issues that plague many women but Tafari was down with her no matter what.
This may have been one of the books where I love Mel Dau using the Geechie dialect! But listen when Tarfari met Pril and got her number and what he saved it is, I knew them 2 would be inseparable. THEN the way he handled Pril with her painful cycle and when she bleed in his bed, listen whoever the REAL Tarfari is, I wouldn’t mind meeting him. LOL! I’ll say it time and time again, Mel Dau does it every time when it comes to her books! Love Love LOVE!
Talking about a good man! Pril lucked out when she got rid of f-boy, Derrick and ended up with Tefari. That man was definitely about love, protection and family first. This book was well written, flowed well and definitely kept my attention. If you weren’t familiar with the dialect, it probably could throw you off though. I loved the way that the friendships were portrayed. Also the portrayal of the signs and symptoms of endometriosis were quite realistic.
Mel Dau has the gift of informational storytelling with real life issues and I LOVE IT HERE! You can bet ya edge control that you will get the drama, the spice, and a whole lot of Healing! Pril and Tafari were made for each other. Both of their exes got exactly what they deserved. A Might Good Man + A Might Good Woman = A Gift
When I say I ran to get this book. 🏃🏾♀️💨. And I was not disappointed. Pril was a better woman than me dealing with Derrick and that chick . So happy Tafari came right in and showed her the appreciation and love she needed . Can’t wait to scootch in for the next book . Amazing Mel D as always
