Book Three of the New Hope Series, set in a small charming southern town
It has been six months since Marti agreed to marry Joey. Despite her history, she’s having a healthy pregnancy. They finally have her house to themselves and Joey has finished her To Do list. Life should be perfect, but it’s not. Joey is pressuring Marti to make it legal before the baby arrives, which is proving impossible since Blaine refuses to let go. Their situation is further complicated when Finn refuses to go away. Add in a town divided, a legacy to uphold, and a particularly vicious hurricane season, and then hang on.
Because life is full of storms and love means sharing an umbrella.
How else was she going to parlay her two favorite past times into a career?
Emma is single and loving it. Like her first character, Alysin, Sin for short, she doesn't believe in settling or in settling down. She loves to indulge in her passions whenever the mood strikes and enjoys keeping all of life's cliche moments spicy.
Known for her sense of humor, Emma surrounds herself with friends whose antics often become the source of book fodder. Her ideal situation would be to explore the Caribbean while writing. She pursues that dream daily.
We have closure! After reading Tempest Torn, and being more than a little disappointed, I wasn’t sure what to expect in this final installment of the New Hope Series. I was anxious to see how it all worked out since when we left off with Marti & Joey things were slowly on the up and up, but not quite there yet. While I did enjoy Under Umbrellas more than Tempest Torn, it wasn’t enough of an improvement to bump my review up to 4 stars.
First, I have to say the synopsis is a bit misleading. Yes Marti and Joey are now engaged and expecting a baby, and yes Joey is pressuring her to set a date already, but Blaine is hardly a problem besides one incident of him meddling in Marti’s divorce, which she swiftly handled. Finn is more of the primary focus in this book, and all her crazy antics to get Joey back, and weasel her way into his life. The townspeople are being a bunch of busybodies once again and putting their two cents in where it isn’t needed, but I wouldn’t say the town is divided or their legacy is at stake. The situation just isn’t as dramatic as the synopsis implies. I don’t know why I felt the need to comment on it, I just happened to take a look at it and thought to myself, “Is this the book I just read??” So I guess I figured it was worth mentioning.
I don’t know if it was the author’s intention but this had sort of a romantic comedy feel to it, which is a bit different from the previous 2 books. At one point I was even laughing at Finn’s craziness, right along with Marti and Joey, because let’s face it… Finn is definitely missing a screw or two. Even sharing in those moments, I still didn’t feel a connection to the main characters as I did in the first book, but I definitely enjoyed the story a lot more. The sex scenes were more meaningful, and not just used as filler. Joey still made the same horrible decisions as always, but Marti was a force to be reckoned with! I loved the way she handled the whole Finn situation. She really surprised me, in a very good way! (Side note: I really did NOT like Joey’s whole attitude regarding the sex of the baby. I wanted to give him the boot on Marti’s behalf. So yea, I’m still not Team Joey.) The flow still wasn’t quite there but there were more interesting bits added (i.e. suspense), giving us something more to focus on.
All in all, I’m satisfied with the way the series ended and despite my issues with the content from time to time I would still recommend it.
** spoiler alert ** Under Umbrellas (New Hope, #1) by Emma Nichols CLIFFHANGER When I started reading this book, the story drew me in, until the last page CLIFFHANGER end. There were some issues with this book that make me give it just 3 stars. This is a 3 book story. Under Umbrellas is Book 1, Tempest Torn is Book 2, Stormy Surrender is Book 3. There is a box set available on amazon.com The time line of this book was a bit iffy. Martha arrives in town, day 1. Day 2 she views a derelict house, talks to her husband, sets up a new bank account, buys it, transfers the money and paperwork is all done within that one day. Day after new years day, Day 3?, the construction work crew arrive and start demolishing and rebuilding this derelict building. It does take a fair bit longer than 1 or 2 days to demolish all the rotten parts of the building, fix all the foundations, replace all windows and a roof even with a crew of workers. Even all those house flipping shows on HGTV take 30 or more days to renovate a house. While all this work is going on, Martha gets served with divorce papers, Joe is there as her contractor/special friend who 2 days after meeting her gives her a silver bracelet and then proceeds to give her the charms at "major mile stones" in her journey to become an independent and strong woman. He also gives her a makeover, hairdresser, new clothes? So in the space of maybe 3 weeks? Major house renovation, fast romance, drama, sex scene and than CLIFFHANGER end. For my romance books, I like books that tell a story and have a happy ending. Yes by all means have a multiple book series where the main characters' story line continues, but DO NOT finish books on a CLIFFHANGER, because you will loose me as a reader and I will not recommend your books and I will not buy the other books in the trilogy or series. Solid writing, nice story telling, nice small town setting/world building. I liked it. 3 Stars. CLIFFHANGER ending.

A dangerous psychopath wanted him and did everything possible to prevent him from marrying the woman he really loved. At times the writing style was very superficial, glossing over serious issues such as the loss of her baby, as well as the death of the deranged woman, with the minimum content. I feel the author should develop those areas more. The story will be richer for it. Other parts, like the easy camaraderie between him and his future wife were very pleasing.
This was a horrible, obivious, basic story but somehow I couldn't put it down and needed to know what the final words would be for Marti and Joey. Honestly, it felt like a really bad tv movie but like the best bad tv movies, I loved it in the end and feel like my afternoon wasn't worse off for reading it.
Same review for all 3 books as I read them back to back, I can't really separate them.
Under Umbrellas is an awesome story. Marti is starting over in New Hope. Joey is simply existing. Together they help each other heal while driving each other crazy. Joey may think he doesn't know how to be a good boyfriend but I totally disagree! He is a remarkable man who treats everyone with kindness, dignity, and respect. He is always lending a helping hand. Marti has been mentally and emotionally beaten down by Blaine for years. With the kindness and help of the people in New Hope, she is finding hope for her future and learning to be true to herself. Keely and Laurel are quite the characters! I would love to see them have their own books.
Under Umbrellas ends with a cliffhanger. You will definitely want to read all 3 books of their story to find out how they make it to their HEA.
I very much enjoyed this book and this series. So many people get exactly what they have coming to them, both good and bad. After cliffhangers and open question, Emma Nichols wraps up this series in the best way possible. Not everyone gets an HEA ending, but then again, not everyone deserves one.
After reading Stormy Surrender and Tempest Torn, I had to get my fingers on this book! I absolutely LOVED these two books, and was highly anticipating Under Umbrellas! I was fortunate enough to get a copy from Nicole Andrews Moore for review and dove into the final installment of Marti and Joey's story immediately!
I was not sure what to expect from this book, but I knew being the final installment, it was going to be great! Starting with a plot twist that was not expected, I wondered if the book would have a happy ending for Marti and Joey. But after a couple of tragic events, I realized that Marti was not going to live without Joey by her side. These two would risk anything to be with each other, and I love them for that!
After reading the entire series, I highly recommend it for someone who is wanting a cutesy, surprising love story. Marti and Joey's relationship is absolutely adorable, and of course the best part is the Epilogue! It was the perfect way to end this series. I would still like more of their story, but I am highly satisfied with the ending.
Things are starting to look up for Marti and Joey. She's doing well with her pregnancy and they're getting along great. Finn is still hanging around and causing problems, of course, but Marti and Joey are sticking together. They're not letting her get to them or come between them. Unfortunately thought things tend go south for Marti and Joey in New Hope when Finn sets her mind on it. Then you throw in the fact that Marti's estranged husband just won't let her go. This is definitely a keep you on your toes read. There's twists and turns from all directions and Nicole sure knows how to write them and keep you hanging on word for word. I think this may be my favorite book of the series! Loved it
Marti and Joey have gone through a lot. A lot! But they have come through and now they are pregnant. Finn has come back to make their lives miserable. And this is where I almost skip chapters because Joey gets really dumb, taking dumb decisions and Marty just accepts everything without a fight. Yes, things get better and love keeps them together but after very tense and dangerous moments. Joey is clueless but he really loves Marti and that's what counts in the end and his actions made me like him again. It's like the storm comes again and cleans everything up for new beginnings. I got this book in exchange for and honest review.
What a way to end this series. Despite having committed several mistakes throughout history, Joey finally gets to prove his love for Marty is sincere and he will do anything to them to be a happy family. Finn is a horrible woman, we can't help but hate her from the first moment she appeared in the story. But Marty and Joey can overcome the problems and, with the support of "family" New Hope everything goes well for them. I loved this series! I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
I love this book I was honored to be asked to read it before it was released I sat down and started the book and didn't want to stop till I finished it. I love the way that Marti and Joey were able to stop Finn from killing Marti. This book definately reminds me of the small town attitudes in the south. I can't wait to see more books by this author she is amazing and I totally recommend this book to anyone its a love story with a suspenseful twist.
I received an ARC eBook in exchange for an honest review. Wow! What a wonderful ending to a perfectly entertaining romantic suspense series! Marti & Joey's story is a true testament to weathering the storms of life and how love can not just survive but beautifully thrive as a result! The cast of characters in this New Hope series could easily produce spin off series! I highly recommend this book and this series!!
I loved the line "Love means sharing an umbrella", oh how many relationships would be so much better if that was their philosophy. This was a really a good ending to the series, even with the morbid parts that were Finn. I had actually thought Blaine might play more of a role, but he didn't, kind of like he was almost an afterthought. New Hope reminds you of Mayberry, but a little more modern. Keely and Laurel are like mother hens, but they kind of had some redeeming qualities in this book.
Omg...could the drama get any worse. There's so much going on. When Marti and Joe finally think they are good and on their way to getting married, Fin pops up again. She is CRAZY! Blaine is still fighting the settlement on his divorce from Marti. Her and Joe can't get married if she is still married to Blaine. I cant say much more without giving anything away but it all works out in the end! Sooo good!
I voluntarily read an Advance Review Copy of this book. I have so loved this series this is the last book of Joey et Marti. Omg it kept me on the edge of my seat. Finn was crazy a ex girlfriend WOW. I loved Keely et Laurel women in the town they could use there own books lol. It was fun, had suspense, drama. It's a definite recommend
This is the 3rd and final book in this story. This book leaves off where the second book ended. The storyline flows through perfectly from the first book to this book. You will find this book filled with romance, humor, drama & suspence. A great ending to a wonderful romantic love story. I recommend reading this series as you will not be disappointed.
5 stars. I absolutely loved reading Under Umbrellas the final installment of Joey and Marti's beautiful love story. I loved meeting Marana and the perfect ending to a beautiful stormy beginning. This is a must have buy it you won't be disappointed.
Love conquers all and karma is a b...! I finished all my nails just panicking on what Finn would do next! It was nice to see that karma got to Finn and that Marti and Joey got their happy ending!
This has to be one of my favorite series by Emma Nichols! I love Marti and Joey and all of the trouble and love they have at their feet! Such a great conclusion to the series!
I loved this whole series. This one being my favorite. Love how everything was tied up including Finn, won't put any spoilers but she had it coming. Marti moved to New Hope hoping for a new beginning and she got that plus so much more, including a town full of friends.
