I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 2007, and after years of service, I retired medically in 2021 because of three back surgeries. I spent my time abroad on two combat deployments and in 18 different countries, a breadth of places and people that sharpened my eye for detail and my empathy for the human experience.
My most pivotal moment as a writer came at my last duty station, the Pentagon. A colleague shared a weekend tale filled with parties, misadventure, and the raw texture of life lived loudly. It struck me, almost as if a spark had been waiting to catch: this is something that could become a book, or perhaps a TV show. From that conversation, the idea began to simmer into something larger, an entire world I could bring to life with words. I started writing in earnest, letting the story grow and take shape, a process that eventually led me away from the Marines and toward the page.
Education has always been a compass for me. I earned an associate’s degree at University Maryland Global Campus, a bachelor’s degree from Saint Martin University , and a master’s degree from Alabama A&M while balancing demanding responsibilities and a growing family. I achieved a rare distinction, an unblemished 4.0 GPA in the public administration program at Alabama A&M University, the only student in my cohort to reach that mark. I’m now pursuing a PhD in public administration at Liberty University, driven by the belief that knowledge and storytelling can converge to empower people and transform institutions.
Professionally, I serve as a security analyst for the government. It’s a role grounded in precision, risk assessment, and an understanding of complex systems that protect our society. My writing has found a home at the highest levels of public service, producing memos and analyses for the United States Marine Corps and other branches of the U.S. government. Yet the pull of narrative remains my strongest current, the force that keeps pulling me toward larger stories and bigger ideas.

I wanna see it on the screen !
Possible TW(trigger warning): military PTSD/ loss of a shipmate/battle buddy or friend
This one will especially hit home for the veterans who thought they would serve longer, but a medical situation or diagnosis deemed otherwise.
Not all leaders are honorable, and unfortunately, those who aren't still have the same power as those who are. Lives can be forever impacted by the decisions made by superiors. What makes matters worse is watching those same arrogant and selfish leaders consider to progress in position/rank/stature.
This started off messy...classic military mess, but in a warzone
There’s also some Spice.
The biggest themes were importance of family while in the military, the bonds between brothers and sisters in arms, and the one you hope you never experience-the hardship that comes with losing a friend or service member you've served with.
The promises military leaders make to take care of the children we have been entrsuted with sometimes can’t be kept, and lives are forever changed. This story takes us through all of this and a possible reality of going from military to civilian- how the sacrifice can be so quickly forgotten.
I am LOCKED in and ready for book 2.

WHAT IN THE WORLD WAS THAT ENDING?! 😳 And, Mr. Harrington… WHY would you do that to us?!
This book hit the ground running from the very first few pages and never let up. Fast-paced, suspenseful, and packed with mystery and thrills, I was completely hooked. With two seemingly separate storylines unfolding, I kept wondering how they could possibly connect and somehow, they came together beautifully.
I found myself constantly turning the pages, desperate to uncover what was really going on and figure out where the story was headed. And then came THAT ending.
My jaw is still somewhere on the floor. The twists, the suspense, the way everything came together… and then you leave us THERE?! 😩
Needless to say, I NEED to know what happens next. Because that ending? Absolutely criminal. 😂

This is a review of an advanced copy that I received from the author.
First of all I’m upset that I have to wait for the next book. This was my first military read as I am very unfamiliar with it and I can say that I actually enjoyed it. It had it all, suspense, spice and action. I knew the MMC was going to be a force to be reckoned with especially with his survivors guilt. There was a feeling that the book would end on a cliffhanger but I was not expecting one like that. I enjoyed stepping out of my comfort zone. Congratulations on your debut novel, I’m looking forward to reading part two.

Received as an ARC and boy did it NOT disappoint. I’m a spouse to an active duty member so I was familiar with quite a few of the ranks and how the military works and the politics that unfortunately come with it. I was so glad to see a little glossary for readers who aren’t familiar with military life to reference to.
My heart cracked wide open reading Madison’s story and all the pain and anguish he was suffering from being the sole survivor of an ambush. I’ve also never been so furious over a fictional character (I’m looking at you General!). The cold hearted actions had me feeling so much for our main character.
I will admit in the beginning while establishing all the moving parts and characters was a bit slow BUT when this picked up, it picked up! I loved all the inter connecting stories between characters. And that ending?! Talk about a cliffhanger. I need book two immediately to see what happens and hopefully see the General be taken down for his crimes!
Also, I need more of Steven and Amanda! I need to know if they get a happily ever after and what happens to Steven now that he’s disposed of Daniel.
All in all, I really enjoyed this one! I hope everyone else does too!

This book was great!
I was definitely caught by surprise in the direction that the book took but in a good way. This story provides everything from suspense to romance to some spice 🌶️ to shinning light on PTSD. I feel like this book so accurately painted what ptsd looks like for multiple characters. The suspense will have you wanting more!

3.5 ⭐️/ 2 🌶️I really liked this book once I got through the heavy military talk. I was shocked at the spice in the book because it is labeled a military thriller. The building of relationships within the book was what really kept me reading. I was not expecting it to be the first book in a series but now I am invested in this hunt and need book 2.

I binged this entire book while on vacation. I loved it and I’m so mad I have to wait for the next one. It had enough mystery and suspense but also romance to keep me entertained and wanting to keep going the whole time.

This book was given to me as an ARC read by the author. This was my first military read, but man was I surprised! Life Restrictions was a page turner from the very start. The fates of the characters are intricately intertwined, each decision echoing through the lives of the others.
This book has all the feels. There was no stone unturned. It had everything! I laughed, cried, and was on the edge of my seat. Oh and did I mention that it had spice? Muy caliente.
I’m definitely ready for book two. Nice cliff hanger leaving me wanting more.

Okay, first of all, I need book two immediately because that ending was RUDE.
This book was definitely not what I expected going in. It started off a little messy for me which honestly felt pretty fitting for a military story set in a warzone and I wasn't sure where everything was going at first. But once I got into it, I was hooked.
There are two storylines happening, and I spent a good portion of the book trying to figure out how they were possibly going to connect. When everything finally started coming together, I was completely invested. There was a good mix of suspense, action, mystery, and yes… some spice sprinkled in there too.
I also really liked the focus on the relationships between the people serving together. The friendship, loyalty, family, survivor's guilt, and especially the loss that comes with serving alongside people you consider family gave the story some heavier moments that stuck with me.
One thing that really bothered me (in a this is clearly exactly why I'm supposed to be angry kind of way) was watching certain people in leadership positions make decisions that affected other people's lives and then continue moving forward like nothing happened. Not every person in a position of authority is honorable, and the book does a good job showing how much damage that can cause.
This was also my first military-focused read, so I was definitely stepping outside my usual comfort zone. I won't pretend I understood every aspect of the military side of things, but I still found myself getting invested in the characters and the story.
And then we get to the ending.

There are some heavier themes throughout, including military PTSD, survivor's guilt, and the loss of a shipmate/battle buddy. I could especially see this story resonating with veterans who expected to serve longer but had their careers cut short because of a medical situation or diagnosis.
Overall, this was a really great read that pulled me out of my normal reading lane. It wasn't perfect for me, but it kept me turning pages, and that ending definitely guaranteed I'll be back for book two.

Life Restrictions by Paris B. Harrington is an emotional, engaging read that had me invested from the very first chapter. The story does an excellent job balancing suspense, action, and heartfelt moments while creating characters that feel authentic and easy to connect with.
Madison is someone you can really relate to and root for throughout the story. My heart went out to him, especially when he was faced with the difficult truths about his friends and fellow soldiers. As someone who has had the responsibility of delivering death notifications to families, those scenes hit especially hard. No matter how many times you've done it, it never gets easier, and nothing can prepare you for the look on a family's face. Those moments felt genuine and added real emotional depth to the story.
I also loved Steven's character and admired the way he supported his brother while navigating his own journey through love and life's challenges. Lola and Madison shared a wonderful connection, and Amanda and Steven were another couple I found myself rooting for. The relationships added warmth and heart to the story, balancing the heavier moments beautifully.
There were several twists that kept me turning the pages, and I appreciated how the author blended high-stakes situations with meaningful character development. The themes of courage, loyalty, sacrifice, healing, and love stayed with me long after I finished the book.
My only criticism is that I would have loved more backstory on Madison and Steven, especially about their past and why Madison is so guarded whenever it comes up. This was a good read but I think if you were in the military it might be a better read for you. The beginning was very military focused but easy to understand. I just found it a bit slower paced.
I also found it hard to connect with the characters. I think if we got more background details on them it would be better. The story follows two brothers, Steven and Madison. All we know about their upbringing is that it was rough and they are all they have. So I think more details are important there because that’s all we know of their past and all we know of their current is their jobs.
I also didn’t like how quickly the relationship grew between Steven and Amanda. They met and literally the same day (maybe the next day) they are already talking about spending the rest of their lives together. I understand their relationship is necessary for the plot (I don’t want to spoil it) but I don’t think it needed to be that level for the event to occur. Based on the events, any decent person would have helped in the situation regardless of how little a relationship they have. And then he literally abandoned his brother to be with her while he was in the hospital and essentially promised to be with him at his friend’s funeral but wasn’t. It just left a bad taste in my mouth with everything that happened after that too.
I did really like Madison. He is the more level headed one of the two but you wouldn’t know that until the end. I liked his character growth and can see him growing significantly more in the next book.

I ended up enjoying this one! It was a quick read, and I thought the pacing was one of the highlights. It never felt like it dragged, and the writing was straightforward and easy to follow. The dialogue also felt like actual conversations that real people would have which made it easy to stay immersed in the story.
Madison was by far my favorite POV. His struggle with survivor’s guilt felt believable and his loyalty to his team was paramount. I found myself much more invested in his storyline.
I will say I was a little confused for half a second because Madison’s story opens by hinting at a betrayal, but then shifts over to Steven’s storyline for quite a while before circling back to Madison. For a while it almost felt like I was reading two separate stories. HOWEVER, everything started coming together and it makes sense.
My only issue was Steven and Amanda’s relationship. I just couldn’t fully buy into how deeply in enamored they were after only knowing each other for a few weeks. It felt a little rushed and I think I would have been much more invested in their relationship if it had been given more time to develop naturally. With the event that happened I believe that even just being acquaintances that Steven would have done what he did. (No spoilers)
Overall, I’m glad I had the chance to read this ARC. The pacing kept me turning the pages and I actually read the majority of this in one sitting.
And that final chapter? I NEED ANSWERS LOL.

My only issue was Steven and Amanda’s relationship. I just couldn’t fully buy into how deeply in enamored they were after only knowing each other for a few weeks. It felt a little rushed and I think I would have been much more invested in their relationship if it had been given more time to develop naturally. With the event that happened I believe that even just being acquaintances that Steven would have done what he did. (No spoilers)
Overall, I’m glad I had the chance to read this ARC. The pacing kept me turning the pages and I actually read the majority of this in one sitting.
And that final chapter? I NEED ANSWERS LOL.
If you enjoy military thrillers with crime, family drama, and suspense, I think this is worth checking out.

🖤🎖️You did and amazing job With Life Restrictions you had me gripped in from the first chapter! I loved all the twist and turns! I was at the edge of my seat ! This also had a great representation and a window of what life is like in the military ,found family.There’s also darker parts like corruption,secrecy ,guilt and and what people would do to get to the top or get what they want ! Life Restrictions also shows how life can change at the blink of an eye .One moment your laughing and making joke and then the next your world can be easily turned upside down. 😭Just like Madison’s was ! Also his brothers Stevens took a turn! I felt so bad for Madison because the Military was his home his family and his whole world ! I can’t believe what happened! Also everyone need someone like Madison even though he got wrapped up with his brothers actions and even though Steven did it to protect him self Madison calculated the options they had made a plan and stood by his brother not matter what!Also I can’t believe the situation Steven got into! Plus that cliffhanger!?!😱😱😱Im definitely going to need book two!!!How far would you go for something? Would you still follow orders even if you knew it wasn’t right? Life Restrictions isn’t something I would normally pick up, especially since I don’t know much about the military or military lingo—even though I live in a heavily populated military area like Virginia LOL! But I’m SO glad I was given the opportunity to read it because this book was GOOD!

When Paris Harrington reached out to ask if I would like to read and review his book I decided to jump in head first because military thriller is not a genre that I have read much of at all… and I’m so happy I did!
I’m not gonna lie… the military speak is heavy in this one at the beginning and there were alot of things I didn’t really understand and had to look up or reference the beginning of the book where he lays out some of it… that did take me out of the story a little bit but at about 25% I caught on and the story started to pick up.
This book made me feel a wide range of emotions… one chapter had me cackling and then the next I was crying… the spice was unexpected 😂 but I’m not mad at it
I loved getting to see the different sides of the characters and how they dealt with coming home from a war zone and dealing with injuries and ptsd and all the things…
I do feel like the twist of the plot at the end was a bit out of the blue but I’m very intrigued as to where the story will go next in book two!

A large chunk of the novel focuses on details of marine life and some of the challenges that come along with it. One thing I found was that it took a little bit for things to really pick up as far as action and storyline. I also wish that there were more detailed descriptions of the characters as I found myself wondering more about certain details like their race or just a little more about their backgrounds.
I appreciated the answer key at the start of the novel as well-it helped to follow some of the military lingo. Overall, I thought for the first book, it was well written and left me intrigued. I want to know what happens next and I found myself curious about some of the minor characters that were introduced as well. It’s worth the read, definitely check it out!

Read this as an ARC for Paris. When he messaged me I was hesitant with it being military based as I’m more of a fantasy girly but wow this book took me by surprise. It may be on the smaller side page wise than I usually but boy was it PACKED and full throttle from page one! I read it in like 3 hours because it just had me hooked. The storyline moves pretty quick & blends story lines together with government cover ups, more shady civilian gang style drama. It had me saying what is going on with these Mitchell men?!?
I really liked Madison as a character & Paris did a fantastic job taking you through the emotions that Madison feels with his survival guilt of losing his squad & being the only one left. As a nurse who takes care of veterans this really resonated with me as I’ve heard many stories like this as I care for them and it made me sob. The description of what Madison went through was very detailed & I felt like I was living it with him.
Steven this jump the gun man my goodness. Chasing tail and getting himself into trouble right off the bat with some abusive narcissistic psycho had me going “Damn it Steven.” So many times. I’m very curious as to his back story and what happened in his life that made him “release the monster” again.
Definitely would recommend this book there is some nice spice scenes in here too if you’re into that. I’m definitely looking forward to book two as I’m curious about what is going to happen to the Mitchell men especially when it comes to the military and Madison because that cliff hanger was 🤌🏻.

I wish I could have gotten more flashbacks to his time in the service with his friends to connect with him just a tad bit more (I love his character so much AHHH). There were some parts of the story I had a hard time following the order of events happening but I think with some slight tweaking this book can really be a hit. I haven't read a book with a military trope so that's what made me decide to read it. I've been heavy into fantastical romance and choosing this book to expand my horizons didn't disappoint. There were times reading it when I felt like something bad was going to happen, sometimes I was right and sometimes I was wrong. I found myself asking more questions towards the end of the book, that I'll impatiently wait for in book 2 but that's okay. This book has two couples which I was hype for because I love a good sub-couple but half way through I couldn't tell which was which so I guess they shared their time equally. The spicy was okay, I think guys just write those scenes out differently than ladies but, it wasn't a deal breaker. There were a couple of typos, and the editing on the last two chapters of the e-book looked a bit odd, but other than that it was cool.

This is my first military read but it felt nostalgic as my first big girl job was at a military hospital. Life Restrictions is a page turner and although heavy topics, an easy read. Life Restrictions is labeled as a military thriller, however, this novel will take you on a ride of emotions as it not only walks you through the scary realities of an active duty member, but also strong moments of romance (and spice 🌶️😉), brotherhood, betrayal, and so much more.
I thoroughly enjoyed this read and wish Paris Harrington much success on his debut novel and all to come! I’m definitely looking forward to book 2 after that cliffhanger!

I was surprised how much I enjoyed this! As a person kind of unfamiliar with the military, I really appreciated the list of abbreviations and definitions of terms at the beginning. I thought the entire book was going to be very combat based and I was going to be lost but everything was pretty easy to understand. There were so many layers to the story and intricacies to the characters and the stories that developed- way beyond just a basic battle tale. I did get more and more invested and interested as the book went on. How you just gonna leave us hanging at the end like that though???! I guess sign me up for an arc of book 2 😊

But, as I got deeper into the book, I realized it really was a mix of genres I love. There’s suspense, there’s thriller, there’s romance, there’s spice….all the things I love.
I would read this book every night until I was fighting for my life to stay awake just to get to the next chapter.
What I wasn’t expecting, was to be left on a cliffhanger! Now I’m anxious and (im)patiently waiting for the next book because I just NEED to know what happens.

The story centers around a decorated Marine named Madison and his brother Steven. I loved Madison’s character, he seemed much more levelheaded than his brother Steven. Madison has honor and integrity but it is quickly challenged by the actions of his brother and on top of that- military leaders who are trying to destroy him. I didn’t realize this was going to be a series so I’m excited to see what happens in the next book. Thank you Paris for trusting me with an ARC. Keep going!

I was lucky enough to get this book early as an arc reader. This is not a genre I would have usually gravitated towards independently, but I am glad that I stepped out of my comfort zone and went for it. This book was a good read. I was interested in both brothers’ stories and wondered throughout the book if and how their circumstances would overlap. The thrill and suspense aspects drew me into the story, as I tried to figure out exactly what the higher ups knew that we didn’t know. That ending though!! I’ll be looking to see where the story goes in book two once they get to New Orleans. I’m ready to get my NCIS on!

You can tell that this is Harrington’s first book, but in a good way. Meaning, even though there are minor errors to work out, you can absolutely see the hard work put into this story. I don’t doubt that with each book in this new series, Harrington is going to continue strengthening his writing, and the plot is going to get even better.
I’m absolutely excited to read the next book and see where he takes the story.

I received an ARC of this book, and I LOVED it!!! I grew up in a military household, and with my brother now serving in the Marines, I definitely enjoyed reading something he could relate to in some way. Some of the things the Marines said and did in this story are things my brother does as well!
This book starts off with action immediately and is incredibly intense. I never felt bored because something was always happening, and I truly enjoyed that! It pulled me in from the very first page.
Also… A CLIFFHANGER!? Ugh! I can’t wait for book two!!
