I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 2007, and after years of service, I retired medically in 2021 because of three back surgeries. I spent my time abroad on two combat deployments and in 18 different countries, a breadth of places and people that sharpened my eye for detail and my empathy for the human experience.
My most pivotal moment as a writer came at my last duty station, the Pentagon. A colleague shared a weekend tale filled with parties, misadventure, and the raw texture of life lived loudly. It struck me, almost as if a spark had been waiting to catch: this is something that could become a book, or perhaps a TV show. From that conversation, the idea began to simmer into something larger, an entire world I could bring to life with words. I started writing in earnest, letting the story grow and take shape, a process that eventually led me away from the Marines and toward the page.
Education has always been a compass for me. I earned an associate’s degree at University Maryland Global Campus, a bachelor’s degree from Saint Martin University , and a master’s degree from Alabama A&M while balancing demanding responsibilities and a growing family. I achieved a rare distinction, an unblemished 4.0 GPA in the public administration program at Alabama A&M University, the only student in my cohort to reach that mark. I’m now pursuing a PhD in public administration at Liberty University, driven by the belief that knowledge and storytelling can converge to empower people and transform institutions.
Professionally, I serve as a security analyst for the government. It’s a role grounded in precision, risk assessment, and an understanding of complex systems that protect our society. My writing has found a home at the highest levels of public service, producing memos and analyses for the United States Marine Corps and other branches of the U.S. government. Yet the pull of narrative remains my strongest current, the force that keeps pulling me toward larger stories and bigger ideas.
I’m happily married to my wife, Sasha Harrington, and we have a daughter. We’ve moved seven times in our lives, each place shaping us, each place becoming a page in our family’s ongoing story. This is a review of an advanced copy that I received from the author.
First of all I’m upset that I have to wait for the next book. This was my first military read as I am very unfamiliar with it and I can say that I actually enjoyed it. It had it all, suspense, spice and action. I knew the MMC was going to be a force to be reckoned with especially with his survivors guilt. There was a feeling that the book would end on a cliffhanger but I was not expecting one like that. I enjoyed stepping out of my comfort zone. Congratulations on your debut novel, I’m looking forward to reading part two.

Received as an ARC and boy did it NOT disappoint. I’m a spouse to an active duty member so I was familiar with quite a few of the ranks and how the military works and the politics that unfortunately come with it. I was so glad to see a little glossary for readers who aren’t familiar with military life to reference to.
My heart cracked wide open reading Madison’s story and all the pain and anguish he was suffering from being the sole survivor of an ambush. I’ve also never been so furious over a fictional character (I’m looking at you General!). The cold hearted actions had me feeling so much for our main character.
I will admit in the beginning while establishing all the moving parts and characters was a bit slow BUT when this picked up, it picked up! I loved all the inter connecting stories between characters. And that ending?! Talk about a cliffhanger. I need book two immediately to see what happens and hopefully see the General be taken down for his crimes!
Also, I need more of Steven and Amanda! I need to know if they get a happily ever after and what happens to Steven now that he’s disposed of Daniel.
All in all, I really enjoyed this one! I hope everyone else does too!

3.5 ⭐️/ 2 🌶️I really liked this book once I got through the heavy military talk. I was shocked at the spice in the book because it is labeled a military thriller. The building of relationships within the book was what really kept me reading. I was not expecting it to be the first book in a series but now I am invested in this hunt and need book 2.

I binged this entire book while on vacation. I loved it and I’m so mad I have to wait for the next one. It had enough mystery and suspense but also romance to keep me entertained and wanting to keep going the whole time.

This book was given to me as an ARC read by the author. This was my first military read, but man was I surprised! Life Restrictions was a page turner from the very start. The fates of the characters are intricately intertwined, each decision echoing through the lives of the others.
This book has all the feels. There was no stone unturned. It had everything! I laughed, cried, and was on the edge of my seat. Oh and did I mention that it had spice? Muy caliente.
I’m definitely ready for book two. Nice cliff hanger leaving me wanting more.

Life Restrictions by Paris B. Harrington is an emotional, engaging read that had me invested from the very first chapter. The story does an excellent job balancing suspense, action, and heartfelt moments while creating characters that feel authentic and easy to connect with.
Madison is someone you can really relate to and root for throughout the story. My heart went out to him, especially when he was faced with the difficult truths about his friends and fellow soldiers. As someone who has had the responsibility of delivering death notifications to families, those scenes hit especially hard. No matter how many times you've done it, it never gets easier, and nothing can prepare you for the look on a family's face. Those moments felt genuine and added real emotional depth to the story.
I also loved Steven's character and admired the way he supported his brother while navigating his own journey through love and life's challenges. Lola and Madison shared a wonderful connection, and Amanda and Steven were another couple I found myself rooting for. The relationships added warmth and heart to the story, balancing the heavier moments beautifully.
There were several twists that kept me turning the pages, and I appreciated how the author blended high-stakes situations with meaningful character development. The themes of courage, loyalty, sacrifice, healing, and love stayed with me long after I finished the book.
My only criticism is that I would have loved more backstory on Madison and Steven, especially about their past and why Madison is so guarded whenever it comes up. It felt like there was a deeper trauma being hinted at, and I found myself wanting to know more about what shaped both brothers. Hopefully that's something we'll get to explore in future books.
Overall, Life Restrictions is a compelling, emotional story with memorable characters, meaningful relationships, and plenty of heart. I can't wait to see where Paris B. Harrington takes Madison, Steven, Lola, and Amanda next.

This was a good read but I think if you were in the military it might be a better read for you. The beginning was very military focused but easy to understand. I just found it a bit slower paced.
I also found it hard to connect with the characters. I think if we got more background details on them it would be better. The story follows two brothers, Steven and Madison. All we know about their upbringing is that it was rough and they are all they have. So I think more details are important there because that’s all we know of their past and all we know of their current is their jobs.
I also didn’t like how quickly the relationship grew between Steven and Amanda. They met and literally the same day (maybe the next day) they are already talking about spending the rest of their lives together. I understand their relationship is necessary for the plot (I don’t want to spoil it) but I don’t think it needed to be that level for the event to occur. Based on the events, any decent person would have helped in the situation regardless of how little a relationship they have. And then he literally abandoned his brother to be with her while he was in the hospital and essentially promised to be with him at his friend’s funeral but wasn’t. It just left a bad taste in my mouth with everything that happened after that too.
I did really like Madison. He is the more level headed one of the two but you wouldn’t know that until the end. I liked his character growth and can see him growing significantly more in the next book.
There are kind of two interconnected plots happening at the same time in this story. One is Steven’s and the other is Madison. Steven’s has to do with his relationship and Madison’s has to do with a secret military plot. Steven’s is a quicker paced plot while Madison’s is very slow.

I ended up enjoying this one! It was a quick read, and I thought the pacing was one of the highlights. It never felt like it dragged, and the writing was straightforward and easy to follow. The dialogue also felt like actual conversations that real people would have which made it easy to stay immersed in the story.
Madison was by far my favorite POV. His struggle with survivor’s guilt felt believable and his loyalty to his team was paramount. I found myself much more invested in his storyline.
I will say I was a little confused for half a second because Madison’s story opens by hinting at a betrayal, but then shifts over to Steven’s storyline for quite a while before circling back to Madison. For a while it almost felt like I was reading two separate stories. HOWEVER, everything started coming together and it makes sense.
My only issue was Steven and Amanda’s relationship. I just couldn’t fully buy into how deeply in enamored they were after only knowing each other for a few weeks. It felt a little rushed and I think I would have been much more invested in their relationship if it had been given more time to develop naturally. With the event that happened I believe that even just being acquaintances that Steven would have done what he did. (No spoilers)
Overall, I’m glad I had the chance to read this ARC. The pacing kept me turning the pages and I actually read the majority of this in one sitting.
And that final chapter? I NEED ANSWERS LOL.

When Paris Harrington reached out to ask if I would like to read and review his book I decided to jump in head first because military thriller is not a genre that I have read much of at all… and I’m so happy I did!
I’m not gonna lie… the military speak is heavy in this one at the beginning and there were alot of things I didn’t really understand and had to look up or reference the beginning of the book where he lays out some of it… that did take me out of the story a little bit but at about 25% I caught on and the story started to pick up.
This book made me feel a wide range of emotions… one chapter had me cackling and then the next I was crying… the spice was unexpected 😂 but I’m not mad at it
I loved getting to see the different sides of the characters and how they dealt with coming home from a war zone and dealing with injuries and ptsd and all the things…
I do feel like the twist of the plot at the end was a bit out of the blue but I’m very intrigued as to where the story will go next in book two!

I enjoyed this book, it follows the story of two brothers primarily-Madison and Steven. A large chunk of the novel focuses on details of marine life and some of the challenges that come along with it. One thing I found was that it took a little bit for things to really pick up as far as action and storyline. I also wish that there were more detailed descriptions of the characters as I found myself wondering more about certain details like their race or just a little more about their backgrounds.
I appreciated the answer key at the start of the novel as well-it helped to follow some of the military lingo. Overall, I thought for the first book, it was well written and left me intrigued. I want to know what happens next and I found myself curious about some of the minor characters that were introduced as well. It’s worth the read, definitely check it out!

Life restrictions is a military thriller that takes the reader on a journey of loss, love, and brotherhood. This is my first military book and I enjoyed Madison’s side of the story a lot! I wish I could have gotten more flashbacks to his time in the service with his friends to connect with him just a tad bit more (I love his character so much AHHH). There were some parts of the story I had a hard time following the order of events happening but I think with some slight tweaking this book can really be a hit. I was surprised how much I enjoyed this! As a person kind of unfamiliar with the military, I really appreciated the list of abbreviations and definitions of terms at the beginning. I thought the entire book was going to be very combat based and I was going to be lost but everything was pretty easy to understand. There were so many layers to the story and intricacies to the characters and the stories that developed- way beyond just a basic battle tale. I did get more and more invested and interested as the book went on. How you just gonna leave us hanging at the end like that though???! I guess sign me up for an arc of book 2 😊

Boy, was I WRONG.
This book is so far out of left field from my normal reading genres.
But, as I got deeper into the book, I realized it really was a mix of genres I love. There’s suspense, there’s thriller, there’s romance, there’s spice….all the things I love.
I would read this book every night until I was fighting for my life to stay awake just to get to the next chapter.
What I wasn’t expecting, was to be left on a cliffhanger! Now I’m anxious and (im)patiently waiting for the next book because I just NEED to know what happens.
Definitely pick this book up! It’s SO good.

The story centers around a decorated Marine named Madison and his brother Steven. I loved Madison’s character, he seemed much more levelheaded than his brother Steven. Madison has honor and integrity but it is quickly challenged by the actions of his brother and on top of that- military leaders who are trying to destroy him. I didn’t realize this was going to be a series so I’m excited to see what happens in the next book. Thank you Paris for trusting me with an ARC. Keep going!

I received an ARC of this book, and I LOVED it!!! I grew up in a military household, and with my brother now serving in the Marines, I definitely enjoyed reading something he could relate to in some way. Some of the things the Marines said and did in this story are things my brother does as well!

I honestly enjoyed this book! It had so many twists and turns and plot twists that can be broken off to make at least two different series. At moments some characters had me fighting the air. This is was a literally a good read!

The story follows Madison Mitchell, a decorated Marine who survives a horrific IED attack that kills his entire team. The author does an incredible job writing Madison's recovery and his survivor's guilt. It doesn't feel Hollywood or glossed over, it feels raw, messy, and totally heartbreaking. You really feel for the guy as he tries to navigate his forced discharge and figure out who he is without the military.
But just when you think this is going to be a slow-burn drama about a soldier coming home, BAM. The plot completely shifts gears.
Madison's brother, Steven, gets involved with a woman named Amanda who has a seriously unhinged, violent ex-boyfriend. Things escalate so fast. Steven ends up crossing some major lines to protect her, and suddenly, Madison is dragged into this super dark, gritty criminal underworld.
The best part of the book for me was the moral dilemma. I’ll be honest, the beginning was a little difficult for me to get into. There’s quite a bit of military terminology and lingo early on, and I found myself having to stop and process some of it before I could fully settle into the story. Once I got past that initial learning curve, though, the storytelling really started to pull me in.
What I enjoyed most was how the story unfolded and gradually drew me further into the characters’ lives. There was a good balance between the romance and the characters’ individual circumstances, which made the story feel like more than just a romance. I liked getting to see the characters navigate their personal struggles while also watching their relationship develop. The military aspect also added another layer to the story and gave the characters circumstances that influenced their decisions and relationship in a way that kept things interesting.
Once the story picked up, I found myself genuinely invested in what was happening. The pacing felt much stronger after the beginning, and there were moments where I wanted to keep reading just to see how everything would play out. I also appreciated that the story took its time developing certain aspects rather than rushing straight into the romance.
As for the spice, I wasn’t completely in love with the writing style of the smut scenes. That’s definitely more of a personal preference than a reflection of the story itself, because I still thought the scenes were well written and they didn’t take away from my overall enjoyment of the book.

The pace of Life Restrictions really worked for me. Often times I did feel like I was reading two separate stories. My expectations was for it to be almost entirely tailored towards Madison's military life but it was pretty much half and half between the brother's life in one city while Madison recovered from his injuries. I'm not sure much of the story needed to be tailored to Steven's time in the city, especially because most of his time there he spent it not supporting his brother while he was hospitalized. But the pace for the pieces of the story specific to him was fast and to the point.
In the very beginning there were questions lingering about what actually happened in the battlefield and it pretty much lingered on for the entirety of the book, there are questions that need to be answered regarding what went wrong, WHAT HAPPENED??? I'm assuming maybe book 2 we will get those answers for the cause of the explosion and insight for someone experiencing life after the military, and battling PTSD, maybe even more details on their background and upbringing that appeared to be rough. The cliffhangers and build up is absolutely there.
All in all it was a interested read. For anyone looking to read the book I think it being labeled as a military thriller shouldn't deter you because at this moment in book 1 it isn't too much to hard to follow along with but that may change in book 2. The only thing that would give me pause about reading the book is if you're sensitive to explosions and have trauma otherwise check the trigger warnings. Happy reading #booktok

Read this as an ARC for Paris. When he messaged me I was hesitant with it being military based as I’m more of a fantasy girly but wow this book took me by surprise. It may be on the smaller side page wise than I usually but boy was it PACKED and full throttle from page one! I read it in like 3 hours because it just had me hooked. The storyline moves pretty quick & blends story lines together with government cover ups, more shady civilian gang style drama. It had me going what is going on with this Mitchell men?!?
I really liked Madison as a character & Paris did a fantastic job taking you through the emotions that Madison feels with his survival guilt of loosing his squad & being the only one left. As a nurse who takes care of veterans this really resonated with me as I’ve heard many stories like this as I care for them and it made me sob. The description of what Madison went through was very detailed & I felt like I was living it with him.
Steven this jump the gun man goodness. Chasing tail and getting himself into trouble right off the bat with some abusive narcissistic psycho had me going “Damn it Steven.” So many times. I’m very curious as to his back story and what happened in his life that made him “release the monster” again.
Definitely would recommend this book there is some nice spice scenes in here too if you’re into that. I’m definitely looking forward to book two as I’m curious about what is going to happen to the Mitchell men especially when it comes to the military and Madison because that cliff hanger was 🤌🏻.

There are plenty of tense moments, but what really stood out to me was that the story wasn’t just about combat or missions it explored the personal cost of service, the burden of secrets, loyalty, and the difficult choices people make when duty and humanity collide.
The characters felt believable, and I appreciated that they weren’t portrayed as invincible heroes. Their flaws, sacrifices, and internal struggles gave the story heart and made the stakes feel genuine.
There were a few moments where I wished certain scenes had been expanded a little more, and I would have loved to spend additional time with some of the characters, but overall, those are minor criticisms in an otherwise compelling read.

First, I want to thank Paris Harrington for trusting me with my very first ARC. It was truly an honor to be part of your debut novel, and I’m grateful I got to experience the beginning of the Life Restrictions universe.
Going into this book, I thought I was getting a straight military thriller centered around an identity scandal and the drama surrounding it. Then…plot twist 😂. I did NOT see the brother’s storyline coming, and before I knew it, I was just as invested in his adventures as I was the military mystery. Every time I thought we were headed back to the military side, something else happened with the brother that had me saying, “Okay…now I need to know how this plays out.”
By the time I reached the ending, all I could think was…
“Oh snap…this is about to turn into a Denzel Washington in The Equalizer moment.” 😭😂
Now I’m sitting here wondering who’s about to make things right, who’s about to be held accountable, and how all of this is going to come together in Book 2.

I went into this expecting a high-stakes military thriller, which it absolutely is, the suspense, the action, and the dangerous cover-ups kept my heart racing. But what I didn't expect was the incredible, slow-burn romantic tension and the absolute spice woven into the chaos!

This was a 3.75 stars for me. This isn’t my typical kind of read but I enjoyed it. Military has a special place in my heart and I wasn’t sure how it would affect me. It started out a little slow for me but it did seem to have two story lines that eventually tied together for me and then seemed to take off.
It was emotionally charged military thriller that blends action, suspense, and family drama. One of the characters, Staff Sergeant Madison Mitchell struggles with the physical and emotional aftermath of a devastating combat incident, that also gets wrapped up in dangerous secrets and the consequences of his brother, Steven’s choices.
It explored Steven’s relationship with Amanda and involves an event that happens that you will have to read to understand.
This story portrays the realities of military service, PTSD, survivor’s guilt, and the difficult transition back to civilian life. The action scenes are intense, but it’s the emotional relationships—especially the bond between the brothers—that give the story its heart. It will keep you wanting more with unexpected twists, high stakes, and morally complex situations.
