Rate this book
He’s paid to protect the wild. He’s about to possess her.Dominic Irwin rules the rocky, unforgiving Alaskan Mountains. He lives for the isolation, tracking poachers, and guarding his territory with a lethal grip. He doesn’t do guests, and he definitely doesn’t do helpless city women. But the moment he spots Summer on his riverbank—lost, stubborn, and completely out of her depth—his fiercely protective alpha instincts completely take over. The obsession is instant. Dark. Total.

She’s a botanist on a reckless mission, armed with nothing but defiance. She thinks she’s running the show, but Dominic has zero intention of letting her out of his sight. He should send her back to civilization. Instead, he traps her in a forced-proximity nightmare—or her wettest dream.

He offers his guidance, but the mountains aren’t the only things that are wild.

Deep in the isolated peaks, there is nowhere to hide. Every night becomes a scorching battle of wills, stripping away her defenses until there is nothing left but raw, undeniable lust. He doesn’t just want to show her the mountains—he wants to pin her down and claim every single inch of her.

“A brooding protector who takes what’s his… and the woman who learns exactly how helpless she is in his arms.”

The Protector is a scorching, high-heat, insta-love alpha romance packed with forced proximity, primal dominance, and breathless mountain tension. Book 4 in the series.

One-hour read. No cliffhanger. Guaranteed HEA.

Madison Colt

Madison Colt writes raw, heart-twisting romances with characters you can’t forget and emotions you can’t shake off. Her books blend passion, humor, and that bittersweet ache of love you almost lost.

Her heroines always bring chaos—the kind that turns lives upside down—and the men? Well, they’re irresistibly addictive, sexy as hell, and impossible to walk away from. Every cup of coffee turns into sarcasm in her veins, fueling every wicked line and unapologetic twist in her stories.

When she’s not writing, she’s riding horses, traveling to new places, people-watching in coffee shops, or plotting her next fictional heartbreak—all while being dangerously funny and more than ready to mess with your heart.

Read with caution: you might laugh, cry, and fall a little bit in love. The characters in her books are fictional. Any resemblance to real people is purely coincidental… though the author can neither confirm nor deny otherwise.

She came to test the water, but he became the danger she trusted.

Summer comes to the Alaskan wilderness to finish her research, not to clash with a gruff wildlife ranger determined to control every step she takes. Dominic sees a fearless outsider rushing toward danger, while Summer sees an overbearing mountain man who mistakes authority for trust. Their sharp banter, bruised pride, and constant challenges only intensify an attraction neither wants to admit.

When a hidden threat traps them together, survival forces them to lower their defenses. Dominic's rough edges give way to fierce devotion, while Summer reveals the vulnerability beneath her determination. What begins as a battle of wills deepens into trust, protection, and a connection neither expected. ‍

As the danger closes in, their chemistry burns hot, but it's the growing respect, unwavering loyalty, and willingness to fight for each other that transform their reluctant partnership into something real.

Summer learns to trust without surrendering her independence or determination. Dominic tempers his territorial instincts with patience, compassion, and emotional openness. Their conflict becomes passionate intimacy and unwavering devotion, rooted in respect and honesty as much as desire. Summer's guarded heart opens fully while Dominic learns that protection must honor her choices.

A high heat, enemies to lovers, forced proximity, mountain man romance with romantic suspense, exploring trust, vulnerability, survival, emotional intimacy, determination, devotion, and the clash between independence and fierce protection. It's about two stubborn people who challenge each other at every turn, discover strength in letting someone in, and build a love grounded in choice, respect, and standing together when the stakes couldn't be higher.

The Elevator Pitch: A fiercely independent botanist's search for answers in the Alaskan wilderness collides with a rugged wildlife ranger whose protective instincts are as relentless as the mountains themselves. Their explosive rivalry leads them into a deadly conspiracy where survival demands trust, even as attraction grows impossible to ignore. As danger closes in, two stubborn hearts must decide whether love is worth risking everything for.

The Protector Mountain Man is an engaging blend of wilderness adventure, romantic suspense, and undeniable chemistry. Madison Colt delivers a fast-moving romance where towering mountains, dangerous enemies, and two equally stubborn personalities create a story that's both exciting and satisfying from beginning to end.

Summer is determined to complete her botanical research without anyone telling her what she can or can't do. Intelligent, capable, and wonderfully stubborn, she heads into the Alaskan wilderness ready to prove herself. What she doesn't expect is Dominic—a rugged wildlife ranger whose first instinct is to protect both the land he loves and the woman who keeps wandering into danger. Their fiery first meeting immediately sets the stage for an entertaining battle of wills.

Dominic is the ultimate mountain man. Quiet, commanding, and completely devoted to protecting his territory, he's convinced Summer has no business venturing into an area threatened by poachers. Beneath his gruff demeanor, however, is a man whose protective nature grows into genuine admiration as he begins to recognize Summer's courage, intelligence, and determination.

One of my favorite aspects of the story is the constant push and pull between these two. Their sharp banter and stubborn personalities keep every interaction lively, while the forced-proximity circumstances give them no choice but to rely on each other. Watching frustration slowly transform into trust and unwavering loyalty makes their relationship feel both exciting and rewarding.

The romantic suspense adds another layer of intensity. The danger posed by the poachers and the harsh Alaskan wilderness creates high stakes that keep the pages turning without overshadowing the romance. As Dominic and Summer face those threats together, their partnership grows stronger, proving they're at their best when working side by side instead of against one another.

The Alaskan setting is beautifully woven into the story. The rugged landscape, remote isolation, and unpredictable wilderness make the mountains feel like a character in their own right, challenging both Dominic and Summer while bringing them closer together. It's the perfect backdrop for a romance built on resilience, trust, and shared survival.

If you enjoy mountain man romances, enemies-to-lovers tension, forced proximity, protective heroes, wilderness adventure, and stories where two independent people discover that strength is even greater when shared, The Protector Mountain Man is a fun and entertaining read. Madison Colt delivers a romance filled with adventure, heart, and sizzling chemistry, reminding us that sometimes the person who challenges us the most becomes the one we trust with everything.

This one had me laughing. I didn't know what direction this was going to go and let me just say it wasn't what I expected. Great writing, funny moments with a gruff man and a seemingly hysterical female loving nature.

Before she doesn't get a chance...

She wanted to do something and she accomplished it...it wasn't what I was thinking but hey, this was more fun. The story is a zany one but a fun one. I wish for more togetherness before the big HEA because they spent more time not necessarily together in a sense. Fun and crazy and I look forward to more.

Dom & Summer. These two literally run into each other out in the woods and Summer runs away because she doesn't know who Dom is or why he asks her to leave the woods. Well, these woods have pouchers and Summer doesn't need to be anywhere near them. She is trying to get research material (of the water variety) and Dom is standing in her way. They both get kidnapped and the attraction builds. These two end up getting a happy ending but not before Dom teaches Summer somethings about relief.

This was a unique story. She's collecting water samples in the river and he's the ranger that's supposed to stop her because the river is too dangerous right now. She is stubborn and runs away from him and gets them into a very dangerous situation where they figure they're going to die.
