The fifty-foot-high wall surrounding Manhattan was built to keep the virus out, but it can't keep Evan, Lauren, and Tyler in. Knowing there's more to the world than what's within the city wall, the three teens break free and hike the post-virus wilderness on a quest for some civilized outpost, as they encounter their worst fears, fight for their lives, and face the loss of one of their own. What they find at their journey's end is only a glimpse of the real battle ahead: can two teens save what's left of their home?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, both the concept of an advanced form of rabies that has ruined the majority of the world, and they very realistic dystopian setting this presented. I adored Evan, his character voice was very strong and real. I loved his sarcasm and lack of confidence in himself and found it all to be a very refreshing addition to the gruesome world that this story takes place in. Lauren and Leaf were great additions to Evan's journey outside of the walls of the only city he's ever known, and Drew was a character I found myself enjoying every moment he appeared.
Overall I'd rate it a 3.5 stars, possibly a 3.7, but it was definitely an enjoyable read and great book for anyone who wants to read more dystopian but feels that so many of them can be a little too similar.
Aeron by Shandy Lawson is fantastic. Three 16 year old kids escape from the walled in New York City and make their way across a vast wilderness looking for survivors of the virus which wiped out most of the city and their families. The characters are well developed and very likeable. The plot is great and has you turning pages rapidly to see if the kids are okay. Even has a wicked twist to it and no zombies, thank heaven! Kudos to Lawson for a job well done! I received this book through Goodreads First Reads for free.
It was okay, some parts were funny. I think this might have been YA fiction and the author seemed to write more like a kid than an adult. A good start for this author but needs a lot of work
