Part 1 in the New Adult Romantic Suspense serial, "Undercover."

I am out of my depth.

Yesterday, I was just a CIA languages geek, safe behind a desk. I thought I wanted a taste of the action.

Then I met him. Luka. Arms dealer. Russian mafia. A man who'll kill to get what he wants. And he wants me.

Now I'm on a plane to Moscow with orders to "accidentally" run into him again. Seduce him. Sleep with him.

I can’t control myself when I’m near him.

And if he finds out who I really am, I'm dead.

Arianna is CIA language expert being slowly seduced by a voice that belongs to the Russian arms dealer her agency is bugging. Luka's powerful charisma has him starring in her dreams, before even knowing what he looks like. Up to this point she's been a pencil pusher, waiting for an opportunity to prove herself in the field. Her chance finally arrives in the form of an undercover assignment to spy on Luka. How can she play the spy game successfully, when she can’t control herself around the target?

I love romance and erotica books with Russian criminal elements. Luka's magnetism leaps off the page. You understand the fear, and desire the heroine is conflicted with. So far I find him to be a stronger character than her, but hopefully this corrects in the installments to come. Being a serial, expect a cliff hanger ending. I personally am intrigued enough for that not to bother me in the least. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Honestly, this book (felt more like four chapters) was really, really, really good, but it was over before it even got started good.

Since these books are so short, I think I'm going wait for more books to come out before continuing this series or chapters. That ending was disappointing, only because it ended. If I was a cigarette smoker, I'd have to light one up right about now.

I need to know what happens next.

Update:

So I was going to wait but I liked the short story so much that I've got to see what happens next so I purchased 2&3. I usually don't remember to do the next book in most series but I can't freaking get this book out of my head.

Author notes This is a New Adult romantic suspense serial in three parts, with cliffhangers. It contains adult scenes and is recommended for 18+. Serial contains a scene which survivors of rape may find triggering.

This is the first book in a three-part serial. Let me start by saying that serials aren’t usually my thing. If I read them, I usually wait until all parts are out, and only then I will only read them if they are moderately priced. This serial is a winner because all parts are released at the same time and they are all well-priced! I read through all three parts in one day, I could not put them down.

In Seduced, we meet Arianna, a self-proclaimed language geek of the CIA, and Luka, a Russian mobster and arms dealer. I really enjoyed this book because it was different. It wasn’t the traditional good girl falls for bad boy storyline. I liked the chemistry between Arianna and Luka from the very beginning and couldn’t wait to see what happened next. The CIA and Luka pushed Arianna out of her comfort zone and you can see her character grow throughout the story. This story brings us to Moscow, which is not a typical setting for new adult romance stories, another reason I liked how it was different. This book was really well written and there was enough tension and suspense to keep me wanting more.

I have read another book by Helena Newbury and I enjoyed it enough to want to read more of her work. I really enjoyed this book and this series, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for a twist on the traditional new adult romance story.

Amazing start of this series, I love a bad boy Luka fits the bill and I love Arianna's innocence and the way she was drawn to Luka before even meeting him. Can't wait to read what happens next.

“There’s nothing wrong with the way you look.”

The move of their relationship felt a bit force, like I know he wants her but the reasoning just feels off. I don’t dislike the plot all that much, but some things remain questionable. The cut off to the next book in the series felt a bit forced, it feels like splitting a story into parts without actually strategising at which point it should be separated.

I HATE THE COVERS SO MUCH!!! ... Now that that's out of the way...

Arianna (love the name) is a language expert working for the CIA. Her current task is listen to a Russian arms dealer’s calls and transcript them, but she can’t concentrate on anything but his sexy voice. She doesn’t know a thing about him, only his name, Luka. Arianna wants to prove herself as a field agent but she wasn’t given the chance up until the opportunity comes to spy on Luka himself. For this she’ll have to get close to the enemy and try to leave her attraction for him on the side.

I really liked this book, it has that something that makes it really fun to read but it didn’t blew me away. First of, I’m going to write only one review for the three parts of the story because it’s easier to consider it as a whole and because I read them all together so there isn’t much of a separation for me.
I don’t want to spoil anything so I’m gonna write some things I liked and disliked but I’m not getting into the details.

-I liked the fact that she had something happened to her and we didn’t know what it was but it had affected her whole life so we wanted to know. I would have liked for it to be a bit more explored. I would’ve wanted to read more about her life with her family when she was younger, and the things she used to do. We get mentions about it but never a full chapter or anything like that. And also, it bother me a little that she mentioned it so many times before explaining it. It would’ve been more intriguing if she only mentioned it once or twice and the reader was left wondering until maybe when she had the episode on the car or something,

-Oh god did I love Luka when he was all sweet and tender. I love how he treated her and that he believed she was his salvation. Although I didn’t like his need to control her decisions and to tell her what to though even though he knew it was what she wanted. Personally I don’t feel attracted to that kind of men.

- I loved, loved, loved when Arianna had internal monologues or when she was talking to herself. So funny.

-At times I felt like the book was going waaaaay too fast and I felt a bit dizzy if that makes any sense (?). I really liked the sharp endings of the chapters but I got tired of them on every chapter. Again if it was more subtle it would have been better.

All and all it was a pretty entertaining and fun book to read. Also H-O-T because c'mon, who wouldn't want a Luka in her life? I know I would.

Really fast paced and good writing style in my opinion, I didn't have problems with that. I recommend this book if you are into New adult type of read. Some pretty descriptive sex scenes in there so be aware.

And last, thanks to Helena for the ARC and sorry for the delay but college is in the way!

Review

This is the second series by Helena Newbury, made up of 3 instalments, each about 100 pages long, so each book is quite short. Helena Newbury has been very creative and thought outside the box. What I mean is; she didn't pick a stereotypically hot, well-bred, good-mannered and wealthy guy (although the Luka is hot, well-bred and wealthy). Luka is not just a bad-boy - he is a bad guy and that makes all the difference. She also chose to pick a man that does not live in America - which a lot of romance authors do. The female character - lets just say she has her own story behind the major story, and it flows very smoothly and really justifies her actions, which I liked. Arianna (I wondered if the character's namesake is Arianna Grande), is a very good person who was dealt a blow by life and has buried herself under her work to forget. It took me one sitting to read this instalment. It's basically the intro to the story and ends just as the real drama starts. Helena Newbury uses the Russian language many times. And I've been very critical and actually went to Google Translate to find those words. There are a few mistakes in the translation of these words, but no fear! This book actually surprised me, I honestly didn't think it would be as good as it is. So if your doubting - pick it up, it might surprise you! It's a definite 4 star. Congratulations to Helena Newbury on a well written and published book!

Rating Plan
1 star : Strongly did not like the book, writing and plot was bad. Idea of the book was against my liking.
2 star : Didn't like it, didn't find it interesting or gripping. Seemed to drag on to me.
3 star : An average book. Wasn't bad or good. Everything else was well done. Original idea.
4 star : Like a 3 star but has potential to it as a series or the book grew on me as it progressed and certain scenes captured me. I Enjoyed it and read it in one sitting.
5 star : I LOVED IT! I stayed up late until 3 am. Author is a genius, characters, plot, idea, development, EVERYTHING was EXCELLENT. Nothing else can possibly be said except that its 5 STAR!

Arianna is haunted by a tragic past and all she wants to do is feel again. She doesn't even know exactly what he looks like but he has been staring in her dreams.

What happens next? You will have to read it to find out. This was an exciting and fast read. There is a cliff hanger at the end of this book and I was so glad I could just keep on reading. Loved this exciting sexy story.

Arianna Scott is a linguistics expert for the CIA, translation?? She spends her days translating people's phone calls from Russian to English. Haunted by a tragic past all she wants is something to make her feel again. She's surprised when the first sparks come from listening to him.... Luka is the prince of the Russian Mafia. Set to inherit it all his conversations with his women have unknowingly made him the star of all of Arianna's new fantasies. When Arianna is offered the chance to get out from behind her desk and on a real assignment she jumps at it but what are the chances that that assignment involves her fantasy man? Will she be able to focus when confronted with him face to face?
This series gets your interest you from this first book. Arianna is endearing and has you rooting for her quickly. Luka is that Alpha jerk that you hope there is more of but at the same time love his bad boy ways. The book was well written and fast paced and had me reading book two as soon as I finished book one. It is part of a series so it ends on a cliffhanger and is not a standalone. The who series is done though so you can get all three and read them all!

I was gripped from the start of this story. Arianna is a languages geek working for the CIA, spending her days listening to other peoples telephone conversations and translating them. One of the people she regularly listens in to is Luka, a Russian arms dealer, and all she knows about him is that he is bad news. That said, she is drawn in by his voice and finds herself fantasising and dreaming about him. When offered the chance to do some 'field work' which will get her away from the phones, Arianna jumps at the chance. Her mission involves Luka. She is to plant a bug on his laptop so that a closer eye may be kept on him. She goes undercover into his home as part of a Quartet playing at one of his functions. While playing, she catches his eye and he appears drawn to her too. It soon becomes clear that the man has more than a passing interest in Arianna and the CIA want to use this to their advantage. Both MC's are flawed yet incredibly likeable and who doesn't like the caring, 'bad boy' type that sweeps you off your feet? Can't wait to get into the next installment.

Arianna is a little CIA language geek (with some added cool gifts) who is totally perving over some hot-as-hell phone conversations of a Russian arms dealer, Luka Malakov, that she is translating. She is lonely and lives vicariously through these calls – to the point of fantasizing about him when not at work.. Arianna has been stuck as a “desk-jockey” her entire career ans is just waiting for the opportunity to do something else. Finally, Arianna get’s her chance – she is asked to go undercover for the CIA to help nail Luka. And boy does she want to nail him ;)

The story is so well written that you very easily can put yourself in Arianna’s place. You just fall into the book and cannot find your way out until you run out of pages. The characters are well developed, but the back story is not so overdone that you get bored. I wanted to be Arianna – and be with Luka.

This is part one of a three part serial, so be prepared for a cliff-hanger. Don’t worry, by now all of the parts have been released, so you don’t have to wait <3

If you’re looking for a book that has some spice and has a great plot, this book is for you! From page one, I was hooked and wasn’t able to put it down. This is book one is the Undercover Serial series, which means this is a novella. Just wanted to put it out there so you know what the book is so short, there is always a rhyme and reason for it.

Arianna has been translating Luka’s phone calls for months, and she can’t help but feel an attraction to him. Just listening to his deep voice talk dirty to his girlfriends is enough to turn anyone one. Then after one freak meeting during an under cover stint, she’s now on her way to be one of his girls. Now she just has to decide if she’s going to be able to do her job and ignore this insane attraction she has to a man she’s never really met or talked to before.

This was an amazing start to what I’m sure is going to be a great series! I can’t wait to see what’s next for this sexy Russian and the languages geek!

Arianna works in the most secret place in the US, she wants to do field work but she is stuck as at a desk. Finally she gets a chance to prove herself, but could she be in over her head?

Russian bad boy to the extreme should definitely be her type, but when it comes to Luka she has a hard time denying him. Even when she knows the horrors of who and what she is she can't seem to accept it. Over her head? More like outa her mind for ever agreeing to this mission....

Arianna is in many ways a shut in, she goes to work does her job and goes home. She never goes out never does anything fun. She used to but three years ago everything changed. She has her heart encased in ice and nothing has shattered it yet. She is super smart and has a photographic memory which is one super power I would love to have. Even when she is in a new situation her mind is always watching, always on.

This was a great start to a new mini series although that cliffhanger is pretty evil ;)

I received an ebook copy for an honest review. OMG I loved this book! Its a book with a little bit of everything a story should have. This is the first book I have read of author Helena Newbury. Luka is the strong, mysterious Russian who gets what he wants. Adrianna is the quiet, geeky American. To Adrianna, the man is the evil bad guy she was sent to spy on. Will that change once she has gotten to know him? To Luka, the woman is innocent and someone he could corrupt easily. This book is a cliff hanger, but trust me when I tell you that you will want to read on. Pick up the next book to see if Luka will glimpse another side of Adrianna as their relationship grows. Where are the two of these characters going with their lives? Will Luka turn out to be the virtuous hero or the villain everyone thinks he is? Will Adrianna admit she is a spy spent to take down Luka and his henchmen? Thank you Helena for giving me the opportunity to read your work.

2.5 stars first book of the series, its fast and sets a good base for what should happen in the next books, unfortunately…

DNF the second book at like 15% cause theres literally no substance to anything between them.

She has a backstory that’s a little interesting but that’s where the redeeming qualities of the book stop.

She fancies herself in love with him and “healed” by him when they haven’t even had ONE full conversation yet; just little heated glances and dirty words interchanged.

Plus he has no personality, none than we can see yet anyway. I cant love a romance book if you cant make me love the love interest.

The heroine thinks he’s not really all bad and has a good interior behind those dark eyes but COME ONNNN dude. SHOW it to me instead of just mentioning it constantly (every time you’re feeling guilty for wanting to fuck someone you shouldn’t).

I wanted to finish the trilogy since it seems short and quick but i just couldn’t.

unfortunate.

Adrianna works for the CIA as a language expert and has been on to Russian arms dealer Luka for a while, listening in all his conversations. There's just something about Luka and with each day that she eavesdrops his conversation, she is drawn deeper into him. To date, she has been a deskbound agent but when the undercover opportunity came up to get close to Luka, she jumped at the chance.

I really enjoyed reading this instalment and it was fast paced with spy game and Russian arms dealing activities. Luka was such a strong character and he drew me in in no time. It was a bummer when it ended with a cliffhanger and I have to wait for the next instalment. Nevertheless, the plot and characters were too interesting for me to miss out.

I was gifted an advance copy of this by the author in exchange for a honest review.

I was lucky enough to get a copy of the ARC from the author. I was hooked right from the beginning. Arianna is a little mouse that works in the language dept at the CIA she has been following the calls of a Russian mafia Luka and has she been dreaming of him. She has always hoped to get out into the undercover world but never had the chance until now. She has been given a chance to show her worth it is a simple in & out job. But that all changes once she sees Luka. Oh he is smoking hot and has a presence about him that makes everyone around him back away. The task went so well that now she is off to Moscow to get into Luka's circle even if it means that she has to sleep with him. It is only a job she keeps on telling herself. They do get to spend a little time together and the sparks fly. So what next it just ends with her needing to take off her wet clothes
