Witch plus wolf? They’re allergic. Except no one told their hearts.

Shifters and witches? Forbidden on pain of death. Might as well stick a fork in a light socket. Yet those are the kind of sparks witch princess Sophia Blue feels when she meets wolf shifter Noah in her aunt’s bookstore.

But Sophia is stuck. Her aunt is missing and Noah, the last person to see her, is Sophia’s only hope. If not for that and her aunt’s new, cute little doggie, Sophia would run as far as she could from the sexy, hard-hewn alpha.

Noah’s stuck too. Before disappearing, the aunt hit him with a hex gone horribly wrong—he’s the doggie. By day he’s fifteen pounds of yippity-yip, and with five anti-alpha wolves nipping at his heels, that’s deadly dangerous. Only Sophia can help him, but she has lost her magic.

Then an evil mage from Sophia’s past shows up with murder on his mind, and all Noah’s instincts shout to protect the woman his misguided heart thinks is his mate.

Warning: Sinfully sexy alpha thrown together with a hot witch in a small town. Sass, sparkle, a meddling aunt, snafus, growling, fighting, and oh yeah, sex. Might want to get up to date on your shots.

Kitty's review posted on Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

Mary Hughes has ventured out into the world of witches and shifters. Bringing together two magical beings and filling our reading world with a new and exciting series, she is intent on making us wanting our males to be alpha shifters instead of alpha vampires. She gave us a glimpse of her foray into a new genre with Masked Attraction and is now going full speed ahead with Heart Mates and showing us that she has the wonderful ability to jump from one to the other.

So, sitting down and getting ready to read Heart Mates, I was expecting the light, fun read that I have come to love from Mary. I wasn’t mentally prepared for the jump from Meier’s Corners to Matinsfield. It took me a while to wrap my mind around this but, when it did, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Sophia and Noah were perfect together. They complimented each other even though they had no idea that they were really destined to be together. They fought their battles the best that they could and came to love and respect each other, came to realize that the Witches Council would just have to accept the mating and that they would do whatever they needed to protect the other. While all this realization is going on, we have our moments of laughter and some of dread. We meet people that we aren’t sure who or what they are and we have times we wish Sophia would just own up to her past mistakes and move on. Woe is me didn’t compliment her at all.

We get to meet some new and interesting characters and wonder just where Mary is going to bring the series …. are we going to find a pairing for Sophia’s brother … are we going to see more of Mason? Will she ever be able to redeem Killer, Bonnie & Clyde or Marlowe now that Noah has proven his worth as their alpha with Sophia at his side? Will Aunt Linda continue meddling? With the Jamie sisters being a little whacky and Aunt Linda’s meddling, the rest of the series should not be lacking any humor or fun mishaps.

So, yes, it took me a while to get into this whole story. Part of me was a little confused. There was a lot of back-flashes to Noah as a little boy and Sophia as she was coming into her powers. I knew that this was a part of the story that had to be told to understand what would eventually happen. When everything finally became clear and the prophecy was fulfilled, it made sense to me why we had to know everything that we did. Honestly, those parts distracted me from the story as they were being told but I knew that if I pushed on, all would be well. Mary has always had a method to her writing, she’s always had a moral to a story. She has always made us love and understand her characters and Heart Mates was no different. Her writing, as usual, was light and fun, consistent and all-encompassing. Even though the plot was a little complicated, she accomplished what I thought would have been the impossible … she gave us an HEA between two people who had no right to be together, who were forbidden to be together. So, the moral of this story … love conquers all … it ignores other peoples beliefs, it ignores the species … it ignores black/white, male/female … it’s your heart that matters and when it finds it’s mate, it will beat stronger and harder than you could have ever imagined.

I just love it when I find a new author on Netglley. The joy of the hunt and the thrill of discovery and Mary Hughes is my exciting new find.

Heart Mates is book one in her Pull of the Moon Series. A series that deals with forbidden love, power struggles, and of course the desire to rule the world and those that would stop it.

In the supernatural world there is pretty much one basic rule, Wolves and Witches can not mate. One is born of magic (the wolves) and one wields magic (the witches) to have a child in both worlds could lead to disaster. Or at least total subjugation.

So when Sophia Blue returns home to find out where he missing aunt went, she wants to get in and out of the wolf run town. It shouldn't matter since she has given up her powers and is no longer a witch. Isn't that like saying you are no longer Italian? Or French? Or Indian? You can change a lot of things about yourself but not your DNA. But after being used by an older witch, Sophia finds a way to bury her powers.. Deeply. But one day in this crazy town and Sophia begins to realize that she just might need those powers after all.

Noah has become Alpha of a corrupt back. Almost forced to challange for Alpha, the pack was rather stunned when he won. But now he is instituted change. Protecting the women, children, and weaker members of the pack. But when one of his less pleasant members threatens the town witch, life gets really weird. Somehow the curse that is supposed to hit the culprit backfires and gets Noah and suddenly Noah's not a wolf he's a pooch, a small furball, an Alpha in disguise so to speak. And when Sophia Blue enters the picture.. yeah, Noah is not a happy camper.

This book was fun, sometimes silly and throughly enjoyable. The power struggles between first the pack members and then the supernatural world is well written. This story pulses with envy, greed, and corruption. And the passion swirls throughout.

This was one of the books that was a total treat. Noah and Sophia bond on several levels before either really understand that they have crashed through barriers that are supposedly set for the good of the people..

A wonderful story and I seriously recommend it!

Even though shifter and witch relationships are forbidden upon pain of death, witch princess, Sophia Blue can’t deny the sparks that she feels when she has to work with Noah to stop an evil mage in this charming paranormal romance.

Noah’s been hexed and he needs Sophia’s help to reverse it and the reader can’t help but be delighted by the humorous part of the circumstances that brings two very unlikely people together. The chemistry is a serious pull of sizzling chemistry but the relationship has a big down side in that is against all the rules which guarantees a bit of emotional turmoil, raging desires, humor and drama as Noah and Sophia try to stay alive long enough to unravel the hex. The characters are strong, charismatic and draw the readers in while the fast paced and smooth flowing plot captivates readers with suspense, excitement, romance and charm.

Adrenaline pumping tension builds as five anti-alphas work against Noah causing mayhem and pulse pounding excitement builds as it soon becomes apparent that there is more going on than meets the eye and that an evil mage is calling the shots in this deadly plan with a few surprises to spice things up. The scenes are well written with vivid details that bring the story to life and make it easy for the reader to achieve maximum enjoyment of the humorous, the passion, and the exciting portions of the story as the intriguing events keep them glued to the pages.

I must admit that at first, I thought the story was a little off but it didn’t take long for the characters to charm me right into their story as they had me chuckling and cheering them on. The world has some interesting and different elements that grab reader’s attention but it’s the quirky flare of the characters that really make the story and I can’t wait to read the next one.

Sophia goes to her aunt’s home, only to find that she’s missing and something bad’s happened. And she has a new little 15 pound dog that Sophia nicknames King. Only that’s not a dog, it’s Noah, an alpha wolf shifter who’s been hexed to turn into a dog by day. But this only scratches the surface of drama. And then romance happens.

The Good, The Bad and Everything In Between

- A shifter romance with alot of worldbuilding : There’s alot going on in this world, but it is very interesting and the info’s parsed out to the reader as things unfold in a way that’s fairly easy to digest.

- Insta-love : Yes, it’s a very condensed timeframe, but I did like that they didn’t automatically accept it, and took their time to get to that HEA.

- The sex : Story alone? Interesting. Sex? Not so much. Sex scenes were decent, but some of the prose was awkward. Not my favorite and kind of brought down my rating.

The Bottom Line
I liked it. While convoluted at times, there was alot of interesting worldbuilding, and some good suspense as well. I’d be interested in seeing more from this author.

There is nothing like a book about forbidden love and you know that the characters are going to go against everything and fall in love. Sophia was a with who gave up her powers after a failed relationship and Noah was an Alpha werewolf she hated witches and wizards because of his past. As time goes on Noah and Sophia have this pull that neither of them can understand and it's so strong that they can't help but be near each other. Secrets come out and you finally find out what was the big secret and why Noah was in the state that he was and it was hard to reverse. This was a really good book and I can't wait to see where the author will go next with this series.

Heart Mates is a sexy, steamy paranormal where witches and shifters shouldn't mix, but they do. This brings about all sorts of spicy shenanigans on the supernatural kind with a witch who is without her witchy powers and an alpha werewolf who has been hexed into a tiny, yappy little dog. Fun and magic ensue.

Heart Mates is a fun read. It's the first in the series but there's a prequel called Masked Attraction before it. Strictly speaking you probably don't need to read Masked Attraction but you get the beginnings of the world building in Masked Attraction as well as the foundation for the overall story arc which spans across the series. It's all about a prophecy which was unearthed and the Pull of the Moon series starting with Heart Mates fulfill different aspects of the prophecy. Personally, I'm glad I read Masked Attraction before reading Heart Mates but I'm a bit OCD about reading a series in order, especially paranormal series where there tends to be world building in the early books and the overall story arc. I'm pedantic like that.

I have to say Ms Hughes does a nice job of world building. She doesn't plonk all the information down right away but injects is throughout the story in such a way that you feel you are learning the world without being overwhelmed with information. I also liked the way she handled the witchy and wizardy magic. She included enough mumbo jumbo to make it interesting without being overwhelming while keeping the spell casting fairly straightforward and understandable. Similarly, she imbues shifters with their own innate magic and manages to make the whole shifter shifting thing seem very natural.

The star of the book, of course, is Noah. Super duper gorgeous alpha werewolf who's been hexed. Yippy dog by day, hunky alpha werewolf by night. Noah is all the things I love in a hero. Honorable, responsible, protective. But Noah also carries around a HUGE secret. A punishable by death secret. And it's up to Sophia to discover what it is to help him and get him unhexed.

Our heroine Sophia is a witch who in the past did something which caused her to no longer be witch. We actually know this from Masked Attraction because both she and Noah appear briefly in the prequel. Here we learn more about the reasons for her no longer being a witch and having no powers at all. Sophia is compassionate and caring. She's also doing her best to help Noah in a seemingly difficult situation.

Between Sophia and Noah and the hex gone wrong, there's plenty of insta-lust (which I'm okay with BTW) and shenanigans. They get steamy quickly and continue to be steamy in between trying to figure out how to unhex Noah, sort out pack issues and protecting Sophia from danger. I loved how sexy the story was and enjoyed the moments when Sophia and Noah got down and dirty. Of course, my friend Anna would say: "where do they find the time to get anything done with all the bonking going on?" :-D Feh! Semantics!

The story itself is light and fun, with plenty of action and a little bit of mystery. All in all, it is a very enjoyable read. I'm looking forward to seeing how this prophecy unfolds. Gabriel is up next. We saw a little bit of Gabriel in Masked Attraction and he featured strongly as a secondary character in Heart Mates. Can't wait to see who swoops in and captures his heart.

I love a good paranormal romance book so when this one landed in my lap I was a happy camper due to the fact that the book is made up entirely of Werewolves, witches, wizards, shifters and mundanes (love that word for us norms) and a terrific plot full of murder, magic and mayhem. Pull of the Moon centres around pack alpha Noah and retired Witch Sophia coming together to uncover the mysterious disappearance of Sophia’s aunt. It’s essentially the characterisation of out two main protagonists that catapulted the story from an average fantasy read to a full blown steamy piece of intelligent and well thought out writing. The attention to detail when describing the magic and the wolves transformations was so well done that I could imagine it step by shimmering step like it was right in front of me instead of inside a book. Noah is a delectable combination of sweet and fierce, strong yet vulnerable, handsome but humble and when paired with the hilarious and neurotic heroine Sophia they just spark together to create some thigh-clenchin’ sexual situations and boy are there plenty of those and the great thing is each and every scene is hot and fresh, there are no repetitive and dull oversaturated sex scenes, in fact one involving a jail cell or two was probably the best and most original, not to mention arousing piece of erotic writing I’ve ever read. Don’t be fooled into thinking it’s all sex and no substance as Pull the Moon packs quite the punch with its well developed and executed plot. The battle scenes are superb, the gore and blood on point and the romance just a beautiful touch ribboning through the bad and dramatic times. I knocked off one star in my rating due to the fact it maybe waffled a bit at the beginning when they were searching for Sophia’s aunt but other than that Pull the Moon was a top-notch paranormal romance and I cannot wait for the next book in a very promising series.

I love magic and wizards, and shifters so put them all together and you have a story that is right up my ally. I even like the passionate stories that flow from shifters, man they are usually a passionate bunch, this time it felt awkward and over the top, unfortunately. All in all this was a really good story with plenty of action and twist. The author has great style and I love her characters so this one is most definitely worth the read.

3.5 stars. This sexy paranormal romance is full of humour and definitely falls on the light-hearted side of the genre, despite the potential darkness of some of the scenes. Sophia was once a witch princess with tons of power, until she trusted the wrong person and locked her magic away during a melodramatic guilt-trip. Now her aunt has gone missing and she’s desperate to find her. The only person around to help, however, is the sexy local alpha werewolf who has size issues during daylight.

As I said this is funny and cute, but man, there’s a lot of sex. This isn’t a bad thing, necessarily, but the plot gets stretched very thin in order to accommodate more shenanigans between the two main characters. The whole missing aunt plot is pretty tenuous from the get-go, the anti-alpha wolves tend to stay out of the way unless more tension is needed, there’s a whole prophecy plot that made me feel like I was walking into the middle of a series, and it would seem that the forbidden relationship between witches and wolves happens a lot more often than one would expect.

While we’re on the subject of witches and wizards, why are they all princesses and princes? Every wizard encountered in this book is a wizard prince and the witches (apart from Aunt Linda) appear to be princesses. Which implies they’re really not all that special after all. As for the convenient healing power of love… yeah, I wasn’t once even remotely worried about Sophia.

In all this is cute, but I felt like there were far too many loose ends left hanging around, most of the big issues were solved far too easily. However, if you’re looking for a light paranormal with lots of sex, plenty of funny moments (the black poodle was great) and aren't too bothered about convenient resolutions, then you should find plenty to enjoy here.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book had tons of sizzle and a wonderful blend of sarcastic silliness that really made me eager to dive in and never stop reading. Sure, there is a lot of smutty goodness, but who doesn't want some smut mixed in with their paranormal? Am I right???

Sophia is a "reformed" witch who is on a mission to find her missing aunt. She's left the witch life behind after some bad behavior and is very reluctant to even go near spelling supplies. When she comes upon an adorable little dog in her aunt's place (which was previously cats only), she can't help but stick around to look into this mystery a little further. Noah is trapped in Sophia's aunt's hex which makes him stay in mini-dog form (instead of the big bad werewolf form he usually takes). This wouldn't be so bad (especially the parts where he gets petted and snuggled by the sexy Sophia), but he's got a pack uprising to deal with and he can hardly handle challengers as a puppy.

These two have SIZZLING chemistry from the first time they lock eyes (as humans, not dog/witch), unfortunately the witch/shifter pairing is strictly forbidden. While these two try (a little) to keep their paws off each other, old witches from Sophia's past, awful pack members, and mysterious strangers keep ganging up to help or hurt this couple. The story takes a few twists and turns, but at the center of it all is a really sexy, silly, fun, and forbidden romance. These two characters have a lot of baggage to deal with, but fear not! There is a bunch of happiness to go around at the end.

If this is the successful start of a series, I wonder where it will go next. Do we get more characters getting their match? Will we see Noah's beta get hitched? I'm excited to see more of this fun and zany world.

I must say that paranormal books are my favorite genre. This book did not disappoint me. I was pulled in and couldn't stop reading. This book has romance, danger, suspense, witches, shifters, wizards, and is also funny. This book has a great story line and the characters pull you in. Noah is the local pack alpha and he has a secret. Sophia is a witch princess that doesn't use her magic at all. Sophia Aunt Linda's store was broken into and she goes to see what has happened. When she gets there her aunt is nowhere to be found and her store is a mess. Then Sophia meets Noah and learns that he has been hexed by her aunt by accident. Now she needs to help Noah remove the hex. Noah and Sophia are immediately attracted to each other. When they start to give into their feelings for each other Sophia starts to worry that they are only feeling this way because of the hex. Sophia begins to worry that if she does find a way to remove the hex that Noah will no longer feel the same way about her. Add into this a wizard from Sophia's past and a prophecy and this book gets really interesting. This book was really funny at times. It added a great quality to the book. The book has lots of serious parts to it so the little bit of funny was great. Noah and Sophia have a great chemistry. There are lots of other great characters in the book also. I can't wait to read the next book in this series. I also look forward to reading some other books by Mary Hughes.

Review from Abibliophobia Anonymous Book Reviews

This is a great start to a new series. This is they first book by Mary Hughes that I have read and I'm impressed. I will have to read her others when I get a chance to. This book had me laughing and curious, wondering what was going to happen, and what weren't we seeing yet. There's some mystery and secrets, that are revealed by the end of the story.

Sophia Blue went to check on her Aunt Linda. Aunt Linda is now missing. Sophia is not a witch anymore, she has locked away all her powers. We do learn the reason why she did that, but I'm not saying anything.

Noah Blackwood is the new alpha for the werewolves. But he has been hexed by Aunt Linda on accident. Now Sophia has to help him get unhexed and stay alive.

They are instantly attracted to each other, but both try to fight it, not sure if it's the hex or not. If they are mates, this is so against the rules!! It's taboo!

"Fuck, Sophia, I loved you the moment I saw your picture. Every second I spent with you, every facet of your personality that was revealed only made me love you more. I love you. And I want to show you how much."

This is a great read. I loved all the characters in it! I want Jayden and Mason's stories now and more of Sophia and Noah. Yes, I'm greedy lol.

Sophia was once a very powerful witch but then something happened to make her question her use of magic. So she decided to cut her magic off and become a normal person. When she gets a call saying that her aunt is in trouble she rushes home to see what she could do to help. All she finds is a burglarized store and a cute little pooch. Determined to find her aunt Sophia presses on and learns pretty quickly that she may need magic to fix this. When Noah went to Linda he never expected she would hex him. This is why he hates witches but when he sees Sophia he is instantly drawn to her. Witch or not his Wolf wants to claim her. When Sophia finds out that her new furry little friend is actually Noah, the pack alpha and man she lusts after like no other, she is floored not only by the lie but by the fact that her Aunt hexed him. With enemies attacking on all fronts is a race to see if they can remove the hex and get Sophia’s magic back before it is too late. Will Sophia be able to reverse Noah’s hex in time? What secrets is Noah hiding that makes this hex more complex in him? How will the Council react to a witch and a shifter doing the forbidden? Can what started out as a hex really turn into love?

★★★★★
This book has a lot of very funny scenes, so if you are sitting outside on your own when reading it expect to get strange looks when you burst out laughing. This happened to me.
I absolutely loved every page. Little "King" especially. When Jayden changed I almost burst from giggling. I will not tell you the other scenes because I don't want to spoil it for you. ( just wait for the bow). There is also a lot of danger from the evil wizards. Magic is being thrown around with all sorts of consequence. The battles Noah has to face as a new Alpha are much more drastic than usual, because the pack he has taken on have been beaten into utter submission by their previous Alpha, and some of the pack have been influenced by outside sources. Sophia is a wonderful, strong heroine who has denied her inner witch for far to long. She made a mistake when she was young and trusted the wrong wizard. To pay penance she shut off her powers. When she needs to find that power to save Noah and the pack, she makes the ultimate sacrifice.
There are some smoking hot sex scenes, all beautifully done.
I know from the story there are at least two more books to come and I can't wait to read them.

Sophia is looking for her Aunt, but what she finds is a whole heap of trouble and one sexy as sin man. Who isn't just a man, but a shifter and that's a big no no when it comes to to witches. They are not to mix....EVER!!!! The consequences are just too big, but try telling that to their hearts.

Noah is trying to prove he is the proper Alpha, but a hex gone arwy is making that very hard to do. Figuring it out could take time they don't have, however the consequenses could be even worse than either one of them ever imagined.

Sophia is head strong and stuck in her ways. She thinks she deserves every ounce of pain she gets for when she did when she was young and stupid and won't see things any other way.

Noah is a strong alpha male who won't be denied when he sees something he wants. He also has a heart of gold.

The story itself is interesting, but getting into this world was so hard it made it difficult to get into it as much as I a would have liked. I would have liked more info into the paranormal aspect of the story what was there wasn't enough and it made it difficult to understand what was going on. I also would have liked more info about the secondary characters and how they fir in. Overall a good read.

Heart Mates captured my attention from the very beginning. I was not disappointed but wanted to read more. I couldn't resist a story about a hexed alpha werewolf and an ex-witch in search of a way to reverse a hex done by her Aunt Linda Blue. How could this taboo relationship be bad? Who is that hooded man lurking about? What other danger lurks? The two main characters both need to be strong to face what the future holds.

I loved the book! Be ready for a wild and adventurous story. The steamy scenes, sexual tension, and the chemistry between Sophie Blue and Noah Blackwood was very hot. The different characters had depth and were engaging. The story was great and characters' dialogues were very good. Heart Mates was well paced and the setting was realistic. I was caught up in the fascinating and truly original storyline. This is a paranormal tale with romance, action, suspense, and drama. The author’s vivid storytelling made it amazing. There was never a dull moment to be had. I was eagerly hanging on trying to find out what would happen next.

***ARC provided in exchange for honest review***

What a hilarious and suspenseful read this turned out to be. Sophia has sworn off magic after using it believing she was helping and it turned out to be hurting. Noah has just recently become pack alpha and has enemies who are doing what they could to destroy what he was trying to build. After a frantic call saying that her aunt is missing Sophia return to her aunt's shop and discovers that all may not be as it seems. From the first meeting between Sophia and Noah the sparks are off the charts EXPLOSIVE. What makes it even more HOTTER is the fact that a witch and werewolf pairing is FORBIDDEN. You have a wonderful cast of characters that I can't wait to learn more about. There's a lot of twist and turns that leaves you intrigued and hoping that the outcome in your head is the one that you get. With this delightful tale of love, you will constantly be turning the pages as you get swept up in magic and a great storyline. This is a series that I can't wait to delve more into. Kudos Mary on a book filled with originality and fantastic one liners.

Heart Mates is a cute sweet book of soul mates with the paranormal twist and has suspense and mystery woven into it. It was a fun quick read.

Sophia’s auntie has gone missing and the last person to see her just happens to be the irresistible new alpha wolf, Noah. Each has secrets they are keeping, ones that could affect anything that may be happening between them.

There are many twists and turns that happen in this book and it keep you guessing. They chemistry between Noah and Sophia is hot and intense from the moment they meet. They have so many obstacles in their way. There are the ones they know about, such as witches and shifters are forbidden to be together and especially have children. There are also the obstacles they do not know about and those are even harder to get over than forbidden love.

This book was a great quick read that was full of everything I love in a book. If you love shifter romances with forbidden love, intense chemistry, mystery, suspense and funny banter then this book is great for you.

I always turn to a good PNR (Paranormal Romance) book when I’m in a reading slump, and this is the exact kind of book that I love! Mary Hughes built a world where there were so many magical creatures that I felt like I was part of it. LOVE that in a book!
Sophia and Noah were destined to be together. But, as a witch and a shifter, they are ALLERGIC to each other!! Seriously! How unique is that idea! LOVE IT! They fight to be together and even visit the Witch’s Council for help. Their relationship was steamy – fire coming off the page kind of steamy! The fact that it is a forbidden pairing just created that much more intensity between the two. But, the banter between the characters was so funny that it was about more than just their relationship. I mean, humans are called mundanes because they don’t have any powers! LOVE that!
All in all, this is a fun and steamy read that is perfect for a relaxing weekend.

I received a complimentary copy of this book for review.

Heart Mates is the first book in the Pull of the Moon Series by Mary Hughes. I love well written books that can have action and love but can also make me laugh, this book did just that. Sophia and Noah’s love story is a good one with lots of action, humor (Noah as a little pooch was hilarious!) and steaming hot love scenes. They fit well with each other and I love how they both grew so much during their adventure. The author did a great job telling this story and the fact that it wasn't predictable like so many other books made it even more enjoyable to me. There was a time or two when I felt it went on a little too long but other than that this is a great book with great characters that will surely make an enjoyable series full of action, love and humor.

4 star

The story has laughs, pain, murder, suspense, wolfs, witches, love, and heartbreak.

This is Sophia and Noah’s story. Sophia came to town to find her aunt who is missing. What she finds is Noah. He also needs to find her aunt but that is because she put a hex on him. The more time they spend together trying to take off the hex and find her aunt the closer they become. They are mated but they can’t be as witches and wolfs can’t be together. But as Sophia and Noah fight to save his pack and get her magic back they wonder if they really do belong together. When the one who is truly after them comes to town will they be able to work together to defect the wizard or is it truly the end of them?

I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I recommend this book and can’t wait for the next story in this series.

Where to start...This book really confused me, I struggled to get to grips with the storyline. I kept finding myself re-reading the sentences.

Sophia is a witch, but her magic was sealed off four years previous because of something that happened in her past. After receiving a worrying phone call, she's sent to find out if her aunt is okay only to find her missing.

Noah is the new alpha of his pack, but some pack members believe he shouldn't be in charge and decide to challenge him. But Noah holds a secret, will he be able to go against the changing werewolf even though a Hex's has been placed upon him by Sophia's aunt.

There were some moments in the book, that had me saying "What the Hell" or "Really." I love Paranormal romance, but I didn't gel with Heart Mates.

I was given a complimentary copy by author Mary Hughes for an honest review. This is book 1 of the Pull of the Moon book series by the author.

Sophia Blue is concerned about her aunt when she goes missing and she is determined to find her with or with out help but falling in love with a shifter is taboo. Noah got in the way of a hex and now he has to rely on a sassy gal Sophia to help him before it is to late. But his secret might just throw a wrench in his plans.

This book has a great story line and wonderful characters for any reader to enjoy. The author gave the characters very good interaction. Witches, werewolves, wizards and lots of magic flow through out this story.

This book is for any paranormal romance book reader who like action and drama with their romance.

4.5 STARS!

I love me a little magic!

Sophia is a witch who has become "mundane", sealing off her magic. Her aunts shop has been broken into and Sophia goes to check it out. When she arrives her aunt is missing.

Enter Noah. Noah is a shifter and a whole lotta yum. But a relationship between witch and shifter is taboo. The witches' council fears such a match due to the potential great power and mis-use; which has happened in the past.

Noah helps Sophia try to figure out what happened to her aunt when another dark mystery occurs.

Will they solve everything? Will Sophia and Noah succumb to their attraction?

Heart Mates was cute, suspenseful, and full of adventure.

In Heart mates there was furbidden love between a witch princess and an Alpha wolf shifter, creepy warlocks, bad news wolves, a missing Auntie, a cute doggie, some steamy parts, and a plot that will keep you page turning.

I laughed quite a bit which is a rarity. I enjoyed it thoroughly and I hope to see the next book from this author soon!

I received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads.

My actual rating is 3.5 stars. I felt like the characters were undeveloped, i liked how Hughes explained their pasts and everything at the end. In my opinion, i liked Jayden's character, but in the story, i felt something was missing. There was also some parts that were confusing, like even if the hex wasn't the cause of the attraction between the two lovers, what was the attraction between those two?

I am a huge fan of Mary Hughes. She is a master story teller and this is not an exception. I was bit confused at first because of the back and forth nature of the narrative but once you get that you are seeing the same events from different points of view it makes perfect sense. I love the idea of this new series and await impatiently for the next instalment.
