I have read many Amish books, but none like this. It blends the Amish with the English, the peaceful with the chaotic, and pacifism with a life of crime. The author has done her research well, and keeps the reader on their toes throughout, starting with a showdown between a horse and buggy and a couple of scary criminals in a car with blackened windows, then traveling to England and the search for a mysterious missing aunt, and ending with a young man torn between two worlds who must choose whether to follow his tradition and upbringing or his heart. Although Hannah is the main character, I have to confess it was her brother’s story that fascinated me most. However, I would like to give one note of caution. Having started with this second book in the series, I definitely wish I had gone back and read book one first. There are many characters, all inter tangled with complex histories, so some prior knowledge definitely would have helped. That being said, if you love Amish fiction and suspense, I highly recommend this book.
