Nicole Baker has officially made it onto my automatic-read list because I’m clearly incapable of resisting these books. 😂❤️
His Surrender was such a sweet, easy romance and honestly exactly what I needed. A billionaire single dad, nanny romance, age gap, and best friend’s little sister? Yeah… I was never going to say no to that. 👀
Dean was probably my favourite part of this whole book. He’s this insanely successful billionaire who has his entire life organised and under control, and then suddenly he’s handed a baby and basically has to figure out fatherhood on the fly. 😂 Watching this super controlled man completely out of his depth with his daughter was actually adorable.
And then there’s Aubrey. I really loved her because she brought so much warmth into Dean and his daughter’s lives, but she still had her own goals and ambitions. She wasn’t just there because she’d had a crush on Dean for years. She was building her own life, and I loved seeing her become such an important part of theirs.
The slow shift in their relationship was SO good. Going from him seeing her as his best friend’s little sister to realising she’s very much a grown woman he’s attracted to? Delicious. 😂 The age gap and all the reasons they shouldn’t be together just made the tension even better.
But honestly, the little family moments were what really got me. Watching Dean become more comfortable as a dad, Aubrey settling into their routine, and the three of them slowly becoming this little unit was ridiculously cute. 🥹❤️
I also really appreciated how low-angst this was. There was still plenty of tension and emotion, but it never felt like unnecessary drama was being thrown in just for the sake of it. Sometimes I just want a romance that makes me smile, gives me butterflies, makes me a little emotional, and lets me enjoy the characters falling in love.
And Dean learning that maybe he doesn't need to have every single thing under control was such a nice part of his character development. He thought he had everything figured out, and then his daughter and Aubrey completely changed the life he thought he wanted.
Honestly, I had such a good time with this one. It was sweet, spicy, emotional, and just so easy to fly through.
Nicole Baker, you’ve got me. I’ll be reading whatever comes next. 😂❤️
❤️👶 The Billionaire Who Had Everything Until He Found His Family 👶❤️ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 Stars | 🌶️🌶️ 2 Chili Peppers
Give me a workaholic billionaire who suddenly discovers he's a dad, add the best friend's little sister as his live-in nanny, throw in a twelve-year age gap and a childhood crush, and apparently I am DONE FOR. 😂❤️
His Surrender was exactly the kind of low-angst, feel-good romance I needed, and Nicole Baker continues to be an automatic-read author for me.
Dean Ledger has built his entire life around work.
He's a successful billionaire CEO who likes control, routine, and knowing exactly what comes next.
Then he receives the ultimate surprise.
He's a dad.
Not someday.
Not after nine months to prepare.
RIGHT NOW.
His infant daughter suddenly comes into his life after the heartbreaking death of her mother, and for probably the first time in a very long time, Dean has absolutely no idea what he's doing.
And I loved watching him figure it out. 🥹
Money can solve plenty of problems, but it can't magically teach Dean how to become a father or produce a trustworthy live-in nanny at a moment's notice.
Thankfully, his dad has an idea.
Aubrey.
His best friend's little sister.
The neighbor's daughter he's known for years.
And the woman who has been crushing on Dean since she was fifteen.
Oh, this should go beautifully. 😂
Aubrey has recently graduated from college and is stuck in that frustrating stage where everyone wants to hire someone with experience, but nobody wants to give her the experience in the first place. Becoming Dean's temporary live-in nanny gives her the chance to stay in Manhattan while continuing her job search.
There's just the small matter of moving into the penthouse of the man she's been in love with for years.
Aubrey, I respect your bravery. 😂❤️
What I really loved was that Aubrey doesn't walk into Dean's home trying to make her teenage fantasy come true.
She takes her responsibility seriously.
She's capable, strong, caring, and absolutely wonderful with his daughter. She gives Dean the support he desperately needs while still allowing him to learn how to become a dad himself.
And somewhere between bottles, baby routines, sleepy mornings, shared spaces, and all those ordinary moments that suddenly don't feel so ordinary, Aubrey begins fitting into their lives almost effortlessly.
She belongs there long before Dean is ready to admit it.
❤️
Dean's journey was probably my favorite part of this story.
His Surrender really is about this man learning.
Learning how to be a father.
Learning to share his space.
Learning that asking for help isn't failure.
Learning that work doesn't have to define every part of his identity.
Learning that not everything worth having can be controlled.
And learning that the woman he still remembers as his best friend's little sister is very much a grown woman now.
A grown woman he absolutely cannot stop wanting. 👀
Watching Dean repeatedly attempt to shove his attraction back into the “professional” box was so much fun.
She's twelve years younger.
She's his best friend's sister.
She's his employee.
She's living in his home.
There are approximately twelve different reasons this is a terrible idea.
Dean knows every single one of them.
Unfortunately for him, chemistry doesn't particularly care. 😂🔥
And when this controlled billionaire finally reaches the point where he's tired of pretending he doesn't want Aubrey?
YES, DEAN.
There you are.
Their chemistry was fantastic, but honestly, it was the domestic intimacy that made me love them.
Aubrey watching Dean slowly become a dad.
Dean watching Aubrey care for his daughter.
The everyday routines.
The little moments inside the penthouse.
The way three people who were never supposed to become a family start looking an awful lot like one.
That's the part that got me. 🥹❤️
I also appreciated how the age gap was handled. Aubrey may be younger and still figuring out where her career is headed, but she's never made to feel incapable because of it.
She's competent.
She knows what she wants.
And while Dean might have the money, career, and years of experience, Aubrey brings something into his life that he desperately needs.
She doesn't simply get swept into Dean Ledger's world.
She changes it.
And I think that's exactly why this billionaire romance worked so well for me.
Dean can buy almost anything he wants, but the things that ultimately matter most to him aren't things money gives him.
His daughter.
Aubrey.
Family.
A home that feels lived in rather than simply impressive.
A life that exists outside his office.
This isn't about Aubrey landing the billionaire she's dreamed about since she was a teenager.
It's about her finally getting to know the real Dean instead of the fantasy she created years ago.
And it's about Dean realizing the life he thought he wanted isn't nearly as fulfilling as the one unexpectedly forming around him.
I loved that this was relatively low angst and low drama too.
Sometimes I don't need a romance to emotionally destroy me before putting me back together.
Sometimes I want to curl up with a story about a completely overwhelmed new dad, the woman who helps him find his footing, an adorable baby girl, sizzling chemistry, and a powerful man slowly realizing he's completely helpless against the two girls taking over his heart.
And His Surrender gave me exactly that. ❤️
As the final book in the Empire State of Love series, it was also such a sweet way to bring this group of friends and their HEAs full circle.
Dean spent so much of his life believing control was the answer.
Then fatherhood turned his world upside down.
Aubrey walked into the middle of it.
And somehow surrendering control gave him everything he never realized was missing.
Five stars for the billionaire who could handle a company but was completely outmatched by one tiny baby girl and the nanny who had loved him for years. 😂👶❤️
Thank you to Nicole Baker for the gifted advanced reader copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Workaholic billionaire CEO Dean has just found out he’s now a father to the most precious little baby girl, to say he’s out of his depth when his daughter lands on his doorstep is an understatement, clearly no amount of money can find you a live in nanny at short notice. When his dad helps him source his neighbor daughter as a temporary solution, he has little choice but to accept. Aubrey has just graduated and is struggling to find a job in her field, when the live in nanny offer is made by the man she had a crush on since she was 15, it seems a no brainer to help him out while staying in Manhattan to find a job. His Surrender is all about Dean learning - learning to become a parent, learning to share his space, learning to let go of control and most of all, learning to hide his growing attraction to 12 years his junior, Aubrey. Aubrey fits into Deans life, it’s where she belongs, Dean just don’t know it, but Aubrey did. Their chemistry is sizzling, and the spice in this book! Fan your cheeks!! The final book in the Empire State of Love series that followed 6 close friends to finding their HEA. If you love Billionaires, alpha males who crumble at beautiful strong FMCs, then this series is for you!
I voluntarily reviewed a free advance copy of this book provided by the author. The opinions expressed are my own
Dean a 34yr old workaholic CEO finds out he's a Father. Has a temporary nanny but needs to find a full time nanny. Aubrey a 22yr old just graduated college but can't find a job. She's currently back at home with her parents. The neighbor and family friend says his son needs a nanny. This is a perfect fix for everyone's problem. Aubrey is good with kids and needs a job. Dean needs a nanny and he does trust Aubrey because he watched her grow up and was friends with her brother. Aubrey can get over the fact that Dean is her childhood crush. Or So she thought! At first everything is going smoothly. Dean and Aubrey get along great. That's why he has no problem asking her to eat dinner with him, hang out in the living room with him and his daughter. Until his friends point out he's being weird about Aubrey. Of course he denies anything going on. But then he starts questioning it. Of course the best thing to do is ignore her for a week. But then he misses the moments with her, talking to her and just misses her. That's when he realizes he can't do this anymore he needs to act on these feelings. But will it change everything for the good or the bad.
Dean was definitely the best way to end the Empire State of Series. It also might have just become my favorite of the series. Love this book and series ❤️ Hate to see it end 😭

This is the sixth and final book in the Empire State of love series. I have read at least three books in this series and really need to go read the remaining books. This book is about Dean who is a workaholic billionaire. He spends his time at work and rarely has free time. Suddenly a baby girl just three months old is dumped into his lap because the mother died of an overdose. Dean is stuck he desperately needs someone to help him. His father comes to rescue requesting that his next door neighbors daughter Aubrey come for an interview. Aubrey has graduated from college but is unable to find a job because they all want someone with experience. Aubrey wants the job but is anxious about working for Dean since she was completely infatuated with him as a child and followed him around, there is about a ten year age difference between them. However, Aubrey and his daughter get along great and Dean is relieved that he doesn’t need to worry about the baby, but an attraction begins to grow. Dean is a very nice guy who never expected to be a father like this and luckily he is taking everything in stride. This book was low angst, low drama, just a new dad finding out how to balance work and family, while falling in love.
Dean and Audrey Single Dad - nanny Billionnaire Age-gap (12 years)
RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ SPICE: 🔥🔥,5
A cute single dad - nanny story that kept me turning page after page, and escaping the day.
Dean - cool and confident, has his world turned upside down when he is called by the police he has a 2 month old daughter. The mother died of an OD. Desperate to find a nanny as fast as possible, his childhood friend and neighbor’s little sister ends up being an option - one his dad suggests.
Audrey is struggling after college to find a job so decides to help Dean in the meantime…Dean who she crushed on as a teenager. She steps up and really helps Dean become a dad.
What starts on safe and slow, small moments become more and more. Dean keeps on trying to turn it back to professional. He finally says he is tired of pretending he doesnt want her and their beautiful and safe relationship starts
Nicole Baker may not write the most deep of books but they always make me happy.
I loved the storyline. Dean is a billionare single dad who needs help with his daughter. Aubrey is a recent college grad who needs a job. She agrees to nanny for him until she finds one.
The tension between these two were thickkkk. Nicole Baker write some of the best tension filled scenes. I loved their small moment of will they, won't they. Unfortunately, the plot started to fall for me about 60% in to the book. I felt some of stories were repeated. This book could have been 50 pages shorter. I liked it, but I didn't love it.
I would recommend if you need an easy read. This plot was easy to follow and the dialogue and wording were simple enough.
His Surrender by Nicole Baker Empire State of Love Book 6
Dean is a billionaire and he didn’t get there by not being a workaholic. Cuz he is one and it defines him as a person. Until a doorstep baby comes along. He’s now a father juggling an extremely busy work life and a daughter. Aubrey newly graduated and kinda floundering for a purpose. She grew up crushing on her brothers best friend, Dean and is now his love in Nanny. Even when she has certain feelings for Dean she puts them aside and is a boss at being a nanny. Until Dean decides he can’t take it anymore and acts on sexual tension that hangs between them. I’m obsessed with the dynamic between these 2. The chemistry and their love for that little girl is just immaculate 💋
Aubrey and Dean are the perfect match 😭 The way she just slotted in as the perfect nanny was everything!
I loved this series, and I loved this book. Nicole knows exactly what she’s doing when she creates these little pieces of life, and I really love every second I get to spend in those universes. 🥹💕
4.5/5⭐️ Lol! Dean failed miserably at ignoring the blazing hot interaction between him and Aubrey. It was fun to see how they eventually came together as one sweet little family of three.
The last act also proved how deep his love for her was, as he seeks to finally address his past, to build a beautiful future together with Aubrey.
"I am not trying to fix you. I am trying to love you." 😭😭😭😭😭 Fives starts. 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 A really heartwarming story. Reading about a rich CEO, single dad who fallols for his daughter's nanny... there's nothing better than that. I love this book. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
