Merciless Alphas #2

Merciless Heir

Rate this book
A kidnapping. A fated knot. And an heir who will burn down his inheritance to keep her.

Nell Odhiambo knows how powerful men work — they take what they want and ask the women at the table to fetch them a coffee. Though she is the most competent person in every room she enters, she’s the last one to get credit for it. After witnessing a murder, not with guns but with claws and fangs, she’s shoved not into a corner, but into a cabin in the woods and blackmailed into corporate espionage by the most dangerous man she's ever met. Because Magnus Blackwood is a wolf in a tailored suit.

Magnus Blackwood has had one job his entire become the Alpha his father built him to be. That means securing the pack, honoring the arranged marriage his parents negotiated, and never — under any circumstances — letting desire become a liability. Keeping Nell close after she witnesses a pack execution is a calculated decision. Wanting her is a cost he didn't calculate. And discovering she's his fated mate three weeks before his arranged wedding is the kind of variable that turns a calculated decision into the most consequential choice of his life.

The pack needs the alliance. His wolf needs her. And Nell — brilliant, furious, entirely unwilling to be managed — is busy dismantling his enemies, unchaining his heart, and trying to decide if wanting to stay is the same as being willing to be kept.

For fans of dark romance, mafia romance, enemies to lovers, forced proximity, and heroines who dismantle criminal empires before lunch — MERCILESS HEIR is a steamy, slow-burn paranormal romance with explicit heat, pack politics, fated mates, and a love story that started as blackmail and ended as the only thing either of them couldn't negotiate their way out of.

This was such a fun quick read. The two main characters are amazing. I love how Nell knows what she wants and refuses to accept anything less. Magnus isn't much better. He is determined to have his own way in most things. The tension and witty comebacks are great. I love how they both fight for what they want and rarely back down. The ending was great and gives you a glimpse into the next book.

Nell is the powerhouse for Sterling and Associates. She and Addie worked together. If you read the first in the series, Merciless Vow, you already know about her. She just found out that Addie is a wolf and so is the Blackwood family. Magnus Blackwood didn’t know what to do with Nell. She smelled sweet. His wolf was drawn to her but she was human. As heir to the Blackwood family, he was set to marry the Lobo princess Rosalind. But perhaps a one night with Nell would rid him of the temptation. When Nell is tasked to clean houses from Sterling which will now Odhiambo, Blackwood and Assoc, she makes an enemy of the Volkos. He needs to protect her. But Nell doesn’t need protection. She and Addie know how to run a company and protect themselves.

This story was the best. I love that Nell did the work of cleaning house faster then Magnus even thought possible. Her mind was calculating and read every little detail. Heck if he would have gone to her in the first place about his arranged marriage, he wouldn’t have made stupid mistakes. I had a feeling about Nell when we kept getting mention of a pendant she wore. These two are matched perfectly. Nell is analytical and Magnus has a sharp mind and strength. At times in the book, I was cracking up. When they finally came together, sparks flew. Magnus was definitely shocked. Then we have the Lobo Alpha. A deal is a deal and the women are the ones that settle this one. I have a feeling Rosalind isn’t what they all think. She comes off being a princess but when Nell spied her reading material, that gave us a clue. Gunnar is a good son, the muscle of the family. But I think she may give him a run for his money.

When it comes to book series that feature a different couple in each book, I rarely like the second book more than the first, but Ines Johnson did it with Merciless Heir. Don't get me wrong, Vow was freaking amazing, but Heir blew it out of the water.

The romance was chef's kiss. Magnus is all broody and commanding, while Nell is the smartest person in the room every single time. I love that he loves that about her. Magnus wants Nell for her, not just her curves but her brain too. The chemistry was off the charts. They were addicted from the moment they first saw each other, but neither of them could admit it at first. What started as attraction turned into something deeper. Ugh, so good.

It was great seeing the rest of the Blackwoods again, including Addie (Vow). I enjoyed seeing her and Nell. They have a special friendship; they're more like sisters than anything else. The plot was amazing. It really had that mafia feel I was looking for. I don’t want to give away too much, but there's an arranged marriage, hostile takeovers, conspiracies, and lots of action. It was great, but the twist was even better. Who knew! Ines dropped a few hints, and about halfway through I figured some things out, but not all of them, which made the story even more enjoyable.

A few things were unaddressed that I would have liked answers to, but other than that, Merciless Heir was superb. A book I would reread again and again.

Nell and Magnus’s book is just as good as Addie and Vidar’s. In Magnus’s POV from the first book’s epilogue, there are hints that Nell is his mate. As the eldest son and heir to his pack, Magnus has responsibilities he cannot ignore, including an arranged marriage that has been planned since he was sixteen. He knows the wedding is getting closer, but he tries to delay it as long as possible. Meeting Nell only makes everything more complicated. After helping Addie and Vidar save her, Magnus brings Nell to his favorite cabin to keep her safe. He immediately knows she is his mate, but with his duties as heir and a wedding looming, he fights his feelings for her. Nell is a strong woman raised by even stronger women. I really like her because she stands up for what she believes in and does not back down when trouble comes knocking. She is a perfect match for Magnus. Her intelligence makes her both a gift and a liability.

This book is full of sexual tension—in the best way. The anticipation of whether Magnus would go through with the arranged marriage or fight to be with Nell kept me on the edge of my seat. I’m glad they got their HEA in the end. Now I can’t wait for Gunner and Rosalind’s book, especially after the epilogue revealed that Rosalind is not who she was portrayed to be, such as a weak, pampered Barbie doll.

Merciless Vow was such an addictive paranormal romance. The mix of arranged marriage, pack politics, and possessive alpha energy made it impossible to put down. Addie and Vidar had intense chemistry from the start, but what really made the story work was how strong-willed Addie remained throughout the book. She wasn’t just there to fall in love — she challenged Vidar constantly, which made their dynamic feel layered and believable.
Vidar definitely gives the classic ruthless alpha hero vibe, but there’s enough vulnerability beneath the surface to keep him from feeling one-dimensional. The slow-burn tension, emotional push-and-pull, and high-stakes family drama kept the pacing strong the entire time. I also liked that the paranormal elements and mafia-style power dynamics blended together naturally instead of feeling overdone.
The book leans heavily into dark romance and possessive romance tropes, so it won’t be for everyone, but if you enjoy fated mates, forced proximity, alpha wolves, and emotionally intense romance, this one delivers.
Overall, a dramatic, steamy, and entertaining read that left me wanting the next book immediately.

We are back in the Blackwood world and this time with Magnus and Nell. These two are so stubborn that they match perfectly. I absolutely loved Nell and her brilliant mind. She is intelligent and feisty, but has a beautiful soul and personality. Magnus is your strong, protective alpha male. The chemistry between the two is felt throughout the story. It has action and drama, drama, and suspense. It definitely pulled me in and kept me glued to it. There are parts that have you worried and wondering what is going to happen. I love the banter that they have back and forth. One tiny thing is the ending felt a little unfinished, but that is because I would have like to see more of them in the conclusion. The story is extremely well written and developed. It’s fantastic we get to see some characters from the first book. This story was a fantastic read and doesn’t disappoint. I can’t wait to see Gunners story. That one will definitely be an interesting ride.

A MUST read for sure!!!! 👍👍

Dive into a world *filled* with pack politics mixed with a tad bit of supernatural Dark Mafia drama, suspense, conflicts galore, heat, fated mates, and oodles of action! Suffice to say there's LOTS of delectable drama within these pages!! Family is also a main thread- and we even have some found family along the way. These characters were absolutely fascinating. They were filled with color and layers, and definitely made you care about them. I can't wait to see what's going to happen next. It centers around Nell, our SUPER brainy, strong FMC. She's independent, strong, witty, resilient and fiery - no damsel in distress here!

We also see a highly addictive, very possessive alpha male MMC in Magnus (in the best way), family drama galore, as well as lots of twists + turns in the story. It definitely captures the imagination. Filled with drama and action, you can't wait to see what happens from one moment to the next!

Book 2 in the series and it's Marcus and Nell's turn.

I enjoyed Nell; her razor-sharp mind, incredible work ethic, and take-no-prisoners attitude make her such a great heroine who refuses to let anyone push her around. She goes toe-to-toe with Magnus throughout the book, and their strong wills and electric chemistry made them the perfect match.... if only it wasn't for his arranged marriage to someone else.

Magnus has an intensely protective alpha energy, and seeing him get completely outsmarted and put in his place by Nell made their dynamic interesting to read.

There were twists at the end; you can see them coming but you just don't know what they might be. I am looking forward to the next book with Gunnar, to see how they all pan out.

📚 Fated mates
📚 Forced proximity
📚 Alpha wolf MMC and sharp-witted human FMC
📚 Arranged marriage obstacle
📚 Supernatural mafia politics

When you are raised as the heir to be the alpha wolf of the Blackwood pack, you follow the rules. Do what makes your father and mother proud. What happens when the contract made 10 years ago to marry the Lobo daughter to make an alliance, and you have never met her, takes a twist and the Marcus finds his mate in an intelligent human Nell or is she? Nell has brains and one night she sees something she should not have seen so she has two choices become an asset or! Nell has been the brains behind the Corporation Sterling and Associates. There she made a friend in Addie, not knowing she is a wolf shifter. Marcus in taking Nell away from the scene she has seen, and then to prove her worth as asset takes 3 billion dollars of another pack away. All Marcus knows she is his and he does not want to marry Rosalind Lobo. Read how Nell and her friend Addie save the men and well and I am now waiting to see how it will resolve in the next book. I really enjoyed this story.

OMG... The Second book Merciless Heir of The Merciless Alphas series is amazing. Miss Johnson does not disappoint. I loved the intrigue, action (Oh and lots of heated action), suspense, sass and lots of witty humor.
I loved the FMC... She is smart and witty with lots of sass to boot. She keeps the MMC on his toes at every turn. She loves her work and her best friend is the FMC from the first book in the Merciless Alpha series. I love how these 2 ladies work their powerhouse magic when they are together.
The MMC is amazingly handsome and when he sees the FMC for the first time he knew that she was his. She was his fated mate and his wolf knew it. He will go to the ends of the world to keep her if he has too.
So if you Love a Sassy FMC, A Caring and Loving MMC, Touch Her and Perish Vibes, Missing Panther Heir, Heated Scenes and Intrigue. Then You need this book but I highly recommend reading book one The Merciless Vow. I can't wait to see what is going to happen in Book 3.

I was looking forward to this book and yup, definitely looking forward to the next one...

The follow up to Merciless Vow, Nell finds her friend, Addie, caught up in a troubling situation with a man she does not think is good for her and believes something nefarious is going on. Yet she doesn't realize just how wild it is until she finds out that the Blackwoods and her best friend are wolves.

FMC Nell is serious about her work and is really good at it, so much so that people take her for granted, which allows her to have more control over the company she works for than those in charge realize. This is something Magnus quickly comes to understand and respects her for.

Nell finds out wolves exist, and before she has a chance to take a moment to process it, she is swept away by Magnus to his secluded cabin in the woods. Their story begins, and things get steamy.

So good, very frustrating, and definitely pant melting.

Well dang…

Nell & Magnus were definitely a steamy team.

The heat & chemistry between them was off the charts. And they worked so well together too.

Nell witnessed some not so human things from the last book & something about her had Magnus taking her away & keeping her hidden.

But then he starts asking her to help him take down the other packs which only increases the danger surrounding her.

And to top it all off, when they finally get past all the edging, Magnus realizes she is his mate & that makes things so much more complicated for him & his role as Alpha.

Alliances are threatened & secrets from the past show up & cause even more chaos.

These two definitely had me fanning myself whilst also silently begging for more.

Absolutely enjoyed this book, would’ve loved more from these two but that ending was perfect.

Amazing job!

When I first picked up this book, I didn't realize it was book 2 in an interconnected world, and even though it can be read as a standalone, you do feel like you missed something in the beginning of the story. But this was still a great book, and I quickly got over the lost feeling after a couple chapters.
You have everything you could want in a book under 300 pages. You have fated mates, unknown/hidden identities, arranged political marriage, forbidden attraction, a villain, and of course some spice to enhance the flavor 😏. I am excited to see more of our characters in the next book, even though it is set up to continue the storyline of one of the brothers.

This is an entertaining read, and well written. You can depend on Ines Johnson to deliver a very well written, well built world.
Nell is quite the heroine, brilliantly smart and fiercely independent. So much so that it takes a very long time for her to accept her feelings for Magnus.
Mind you, their situation is incredibly complex. The angst is great!
I think the one complaint I have is that most of the relationship building took a long time—but once they got together, it rushed the ending in a massive way. Everything tied off with a bow so fast you feel a bit dizzy.

It’s a good read, but man I would have liked the ending to not rush quite so fast. It would have been nice to see them happy together. Maybe truly work through some of the issues they’re sure to still face between his overbearing nature and her fiercely independent one.

What I like about the Merciless Alpha series is regardless of the couple we are following, the main storyline continues.

In Merciless Heir, we follow Magnus the heir to the Blackwood Mafia who has been raised to be the next head of the family & is arranged to marry the mysterious, never been seen Lobo daughter & Nell, best friend/work colleague to Addie who we met in the first book. & is currently being protected by Magnus after witnessing a murder.

What I enjoyed about these two was they are both strong headed. Magnus the typical Alpha Male, who puts family first & Nell who has worked hard for everything she has, & never backed down when it came to Magnus.

I continue to find these stories fun to read & enjoyed the sneak peak in to Gunnar’s story.

Who runs the world....girls!
Magnus, the stubborn alpha heir, thinks he's the smartest one in the room and controls everything around him. At least until he meets Nell and she runs circles around him. We love a strong, intelligent woman and this one is not putting up with shenanigans. Nell has just discovered her best friend is a wolf shifter, and so is her new family. And for Nell's "safety" she's tucked away at Magnus's cabin. He wants her, and he's going to have her one time; she wants him too, and also wants that before they become business partners. Only....he's engaged to someone else. Great story, and a page-turning read. Love that the womann handled fixing all the things.

Mangus and Nell

This is a great read with a few twist the turns. I really enjoyed it and the characters are great. I loved the clash of wits between Mangus and Nell. There was plenty of action, and the depth of the story and it's hidden mysteries was fun. There wasn't a cliffhanger but the segue into the next book left me wanting more. I've read the first two books, this being the second book, and I'm really enjoying this series, it's a great series! They do not have to be read in order, but as a reader who has read them both I do recommend them being read in order, it makes the story more interesting and gives you deeper meaning.

Hollllllly crap! This series is absolutely fantastic! As the first book in the series hinted, we are now learning about Magnus's life. The heir. The one who sacrifices for the sake of the pack. Until her..
Nell is a bad B, who knows what she wants and uses her smarts to obtain it. Years working under men who can't do any of the things she can, yet takes credit for all of her hard work. Now that is no longer the case and she goes in swinging!
What happens when you put two hard headed people (saying that VERY lightly) together? It's a hell of time, that's what!
Come find out how Nell and Magnus fight for what they want. You won't regret it!

Well written story, but not one I connected with, so I’d give it a neutral rating of 2.5 stars.

For some reason I didn’t connect with this book. It’s well written, and there’s nothing that stands out that is “wrong” with the book.

There’s danger, secrets, and a love story that is forbidden due to pack politics, and an arranged marriage. Then there’s a fierce and independent FMC.

Unfortunately it just wasn’t for me, despite it being the genre I typically enjoy. I think the story could have been fleshed out more, as there were jumps in the story and things I feel could have been expanded on and explained more.

I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I did not like Magnus' brother, Vidar, but Magnus I like. While he didn't always make the best choices and didn't think much of Nell at first he learned his lesson and accepted it.. eventually. I love how strong Nell is as a human among wolves, she is a master negotiator with a brain for business and infostructure, her mind was 10 steps a head of everyone. Magnus is a powerhouse as well but also tends to lay himself on the track instead of checking in with anyone else. I loved this story, had great pacing and the twists were perfect. The spice was great as usual. I can't wait for Gunnar's story.

I absolutely loved *Merciless Heir*! The storyline was captivating from start to finish, and Ines Johnson’s writing style makes it so easy to get lost in her books—this one was no exception. The characters truly stood out, and I fell in love with them all. I especially want to see more of Nell and Magnus; it feels like we were just beginning to uncover their depths, and I'm eager to know what the near future holds for them. The cliffhanger left me on the edge of my seat, curious about the mysterious “little bird.” I’m so excited for the next book featuring a new brother—can’t wait to dive in!

There's nothing better than a strong FMC who puts the MMC through his paces. I loved Nell and her take no prisoners attitude in Addie's book. She is a strong character who won't just do what she's told be a man has told her to. Magus is the alpha heir, he's stubborn and feels like he's the smartest in the room and has to control everything. Nell was not in his plans. This story had action, suspense that kept me turning the pages. I loved the characters and their interactions. As with other Ines books so gives you what you want while leaving you wanting more at the same time.

Nell and Magnus story is full of 🔥🔥 and spice! Both are very stubborn. Magnus is promised to another female to straighten the pack! A female that he has never met before! Continuation of Mericless Vow with Nell waking up after passing out with the finding out of werewolves. Nell is a strong FMC who has worked for everything she has! Nell is so smart, but never thought she would be so similar to Magnus! I loved reading how Nell fixed Magnus' arranged marriage! I can't wait to see what happens in Gunnar and Rosalind's story!

Nell and magnus

Wow what a story. Battle of the brains I swear the way this story was written that is hella sexy. Nell and magnus had this insane attraction and magnus was already set to be married to another packs daughter. There is nothing that can stop a fated mate . They found out so many things about in another . Nell had no idea what drew her to him but boy was it a huge surprise. I really enjoyed their story a true battle of the wits. I can’t wait to see what happens with Duggar.

This was a great short, dark, paranormal. The FMC is a strong, intelligent and very well matched to the MMC. They both had “something” on each other. The FMC is using him to further her career and dreams of being the “partner” rather than the grunt. He is using her to crush his adversaries. At the same time they fight their attraction to each other. He’s set to marry an ally, but he’s met his fated mate. He’s stuck in a rock and a hard place.

She learns some things about herself and I like how it all unravels. At the end of the day, there’s a HEA and I really enjoyed this book.

I was so ready for Nell and Magnus! They grabbed my attention in the previous book, and I was ecstatic that they got a story. I love how protective Magnus is over Nell, even if he has ulterior motives. Nell is so sassy, and so intelligent. I love how she got the Volkis taken over and everything she could for the Blackwoods in a few hours, when Magnus expected it to take her days. Her relationship with Addie is wonderful, and I love the little tidbits form the previous book couple. Definitely some plot twists! And some delicious steam with tons of tension. Wonderful read!

What do you get when you combine the supernatural, mafia and fated mates? Merciless Heir (Merciless Alphas #2) by Author Ines Johnson!
So, so good I gobbled down in one sitting! I honestly really loved everything about this story. One of the things that I really enjoyed was the FMC, Nell. She is so strong, smart and sassy.
The character development was well done and the storyline flowed nicely.
Very well done, I absolutely recommend this one to all!

OMG! This book! Just wow! I couldn't put it down. Getting to follow Magnus and Nell, who isn't what she seems, through the ups and downs of their situationship turned relationship was just awesome. Seeing Magnus try to take charge only to get put in his place by a strong willed, equally matched woman, was great! This happily ever after fated mates story is truly worth every minute and keeps building on a world that's full of oh my goodness moments! Loved it and can't wait for the next book!

This is the second book in the Merciless Alphas series and I think it’s better than the first book. That’s saying something because the first book was amazing! Nell is one strong and intelligent woman that knows how to strategically move the chess pieces to get what she wants. She wants Magnus. Are these two made for one another or will they be ripped apart? They both have some hot and spicy chemistry. I can’t wait for Gunnar’s story. Something tells me it’s going to be a doozy.

Book two and so good. Magnus may be an alpha but Nell is the one person that he won’t be able to control. I so love how independent Nell is. Amazingly smart and able to do more in three hours than a group of men from the same job field. She can be a tad ruthless when she wants to be. Magnus can’t keep away from her but he can’t have her either. Love all the tension and steam. Plenty of twists too. Love when shifter wolves are at a loss by one seemingly innocent human.
