One of four sisters, south Londoner and British Pakistani Iman Asghar has so far been unlucky in love. So she decides to try an arranged marriage, allowing her widower mum, Raheela, to use a matchmaker to find the perfect husband. With everything planned for the big day, the family gather in their home to welcome her third potential match, Dawud.
What isn't planned is Dawud dropping dead in the Asghars' living room.
The police rule his death as an accident - a verdict that does little to change the minds of the community, who are convinced that Iman's family murdered her potential match.
In a bid to clear her family's name, Iman decides to investigate. And as she gets to know Dawud's extended family and friends, she begins to suspect that his death may not have been an accident after all . . .
Oh this was such a good read!! I love a good murder mystery and this was definitely one done well. The characters had so much depth and background, there was so much cultural distinctiveness which makes it stand out from anything ive read before. I was genuinely on the edge of my seat the entire time and everything I kept predicting ended up being wrong which is recipe for a great thriller. There was grief, complicated family dynamics and twists. I think the main thing that knocks a point for me is whilst the ending was done so well and smoothly, it is kinda a cliffhanger and it felt like something was missing. Almost as if it shouldnt have ended there? But maybe thats a sign i was way too invested with these characters and the storyline
I really enjoyed this book! I love reading murder mysteries but this was so much fun. The characters really stood out to me in this book and the family dynamic was heart-warming and hilarious at times. The writing was very authentic and believable, and as a South Asian this made it very relatable. This was a real page turner as I was eager to know what was going to happen next, and I really did not predict the ending at all. I would highly recommend!
