It seemed such a challenge! Beverley craved more excitement than her job provided, so when the ad appeared for a position in Kinneil she eagerly applied.
It seemed innocent enough to deceive Alex Ramage into believing his new assistant was male - until she came face to face with the rugged naturalist.
She had definitely bitten off more than she could chew. But even when she heard about Lynne Redfern, Alex's very possessive fiancée, she wanted to stay.
As the book description goes, the H is a naturalist and lives in rough circumstances. The h is pretty feisty and deals with his alpha ways quite handily. The OW is never a real threat. The H softens towards the h and is -- gasp --quite straightforward about his feelings for her when it comes down to it.
I think your opinion of this book will be influenced by the circumstances the h is signing on for when she chooses the H. I get the whole idea of being close to nature with the one you love, but she spent so much time just doing housekeeping, which you can do anywhere.
I the beginning I didn't like either of the characters. I didn't like Beverley because she got a job based on false pretenses and I didn't like Alex because of his surly and sometimes absentminded attitude. But these two grew on me.
Beverley has left her job at an insurance office because she longs for the open skies in the island her mother grew up. She claims to craved excitement and adventure but we never got to see her doing this. Only one day she explores the island briefly but then she gets into an accident. Now Beverley is VERY accident prone. There are a lot of scraps she finds herself in this book. Instead of the job she originally applied for she becomes Alex's house keeper. There were quite a lot of bickering between these two but she is the nurturing sort.
Alex is a naturalist and hired a new assistant that he thought was male - long ago Beverley was a predominately male name well not so much as it is now considered feminine. Then he meets the pretty Beverley and he quickly tries to send her packing, but she can't leave as the boat has already left so there is no way off the island. Though Alex was very much involved with his work he was caring towards Beverley. He hints at his feeling towards Beverley and even when he come right out and admits his feelings she is still dense and unsure of him but he persist until even she understands where is wants their relationship to evolve.
