Bad JuJu in Cleveland
Drugs….murder….voodoo!
Four men are found brutally slain in an abandoned house on Cleveland’s east side, one with ties to City Hall and all marked with a mysterious symbol. When Detective Nicholas Silvano is called to the case, he finds this drug-deal-gone-wrong is anything but ordinary and the search for an elusive killer is on. With FBI Agent James Reis creating roadblocks at every turn, Silvano teams up with DEA Agent Charley Goetz on a manhunt that takes them from Cleveland to the shady side of Florida, where anything can be had for a price. The stakes become higher when the killer makes it personal, forcing Nick to face feelings he’d been denying for so long.

From the opening line to the very last words, Karl Bort takes readers on a thrilling journey as Detective Nicholas Silvano tries to solve the brutal murder of four men in a Cleveland warehouse. He soon discovers that the deaths are more than a drug-deal-gone-wrong but a strange case involving voodoo. Bort’s work as a policeman and his many years in Cleveland no doubt informed this novel, which is as realistic in its details as it is suspenseful. I hope Bort brings Det. Silvano back for another adventure!

Never a dull moment!
If you like a fast-paced detective thriller with a different twist, I recommend this book for you. I enjoyed it very much.

Better than I expected. The author wasn’t quite so rah rah “blue lives matter” this time. In fact, the cops, while clearly better than those they pursue, aren’t squeaky clean, but as flawed as normal humans, and as cynical as I imagine police work can sometimes make a person.
I will say that this is the second book by this author (2 for 2, so far) where the cop doesn’t catch the killer. Nonetheless, the killer’s past ends up catching up with them anyway, and in a way which doesn’t feel contrived. After all, the perps are dangerous people who are associating with (and screwing over) other bad, dangerous people; that doesn’t exactly make for a long life.

Great book to read. I like stories based on real cop action. It's not the blow-'em-up or unrealistic storyline. The events actually happened.
