Lawyer Joe Warner finds himself behind bars one hot, summer day. He put himself there, as he had been convicted of manslaughter. The whole business was hard for him to accept, yet he had to. Dealing with his new status, and surviving behind high stone walls would occupy him for a long time. So would a menace he never expected, as he becomes a target for a serial killer active inside the prison. Warner would deal with this and other issues, trying to keep himself intact inside a hard, hard place. The consequences of the turmoil around him, and its deadly fallout, drive the prison and its inmates to a surprising conclusion.
