Princess Fuzzypants here: This book should come with a warning. There will be danger of leaky eyes on the emotional rollercoaster of Miro’s life. There was a point early on when we were not sure if we could continue but I am glad we forged ahead. Miro’s mother did not have the loving care that my mother did. In ,fact, the horrible people who “owned” her used her as a breeding tool to sell her adorable kittens. The way they were treated was appalling. So Miro and his siblings had no chance until they were, hopefully, adopted by good humans.
This book does not pull punches. It shows humans in all their forms: the good, the bad and the ugly. Life starts to look good once he is adopted by Sarah. She gains his trust and his love but all that is shattered by her poor choice in mate. Her boyfriend goes from being vaguely unpleasant to alarming to outright dangerous which leads Miro onto the streets in fear for his life. What he finds there makes him question his choice to run away but just when he thought there were no good people in the world, his life turns 180 degrees and he is welcomed into a warm and safe home.
There are still some sad changes that he must get through but in the end, life is pretty good for this handsome little cat. As it should be. Five purrs and two paws up.

This was such a sweet little story. We experience the world from the POV of a cat called Miro, which in itself is such cute premise.
This book is full of wonderfully wholesome lessons about exploring the world, finding joy and belonging but parts of it are also very emotional as we witness Miro’s experiences with heartbreak, loss and abuse.
I really enjoyed reading an outside POV on humans, their behaviour, their emotions, their habits and also their relationships. It felt very refreshing and enlightening.
What I noticed was a bit of inconsistency in Miro’s narrative. At times he’s acting and thinking the way you’d imagine a young, naive cat would but at other times the narrator uses metaphors and descriptions of concepts that a cat wouldn’t know of (‘The way a single bad note threads through music’, ‘each one carved with a name, a date, a cross’). I understand though why the author didn’t want to purely stick to a cat’s knowledge and awareness, since that probably would have made the narrative less lyrical and profound.
Overall a heartwarming, lovely story, not just recommended for cat-lovers.

I picked this up expecting a story about a cat and ended up getting something much bigger. Seeing the world through Miro’s eyes makes every moment feel different because even simple things, a new room, a stranger’s hand, a warm place to sleep, carry so much meaning. There were parts that hurt, parts that made me smile, and a few moments that caught me off guard because they felt so real. Miro watches people in a way that says a lot about us without ever feeling heavy-handed. If you’ve ever had a pet become family, or if you’ve ever felt like you were searching for where you belong, this one will probably hit you harder than you expect.

The first thing I did after reading this book was to give my own cat a big, long hug.
Miro shows us the human experience through a very unique perspective, that of a cat. He looks at the world with curiosity and an intuitive understanding of what is going on. As a cat, Miro sees things that we don't and other things he just doesn't care about while we think them important.
This is a story with many emotional ups and downs, moments of despair and moments of great tenderness. It tells us about the duality of humanity and how that duality often shows in how we care for our animals.
The book is beautifully written, with many profound moments. Miro is so loveable and you will root for him throughout the whole book (and be very angry at some other characters). I will be thinking about this book for a long time.
