Cammie Darling is difficult. She knows it, everyone around her knows it, and the book never wastes much time pretending otherwise.

That was probably the smartest choice Alexandra Moody made with Rebel Darling.

Cammie has already lost figure-skating partners because of her personality, and after being disqualified from her latest competition, her reputation has become enough of a problem that nobody wants to skate with her. Seth Walker has a completely different problem: he has been thrown off the Ransom Devils hockey team for something he insists he didn’t do. Pairing the two of them together gives both characters a chance to repair their reputations and get back onto the ice — despite the inconvenient fact that they have never particularly liked each other.

I liked Cammie precisely because she wasn’t immediately easy to love.

YA heroines are sometimes given the label “difficult” while still behaving in ways designed to make the reader approve of everything they do. Cammie actually has edges. She is competitive, demanding, stubborn and very aware of what she wants. She can be unfair. She can make things harder for herself. Her reputation as the “ice princess” makes sense.

But there is a difference between being unlikeable and being uninteresting, and Cammie was never uninteresting to me.

Figure skating also feels genuinely important to her. It isn’t just an aesthetic backdrop for a romance. Her frustration over losing a partner hurts because skating is tied to her ambition, her identity and the future she has imagined for herself. I could understand why she becomes so intense when she feels that future slipping away.

Seth is almost her complete opposite.

He approaches situations with far more humour and ease, which makes Cammie think he doesn’t take anything seriously. She is used to seeing him primarily as her brother’s annoying best friend, while Seth has largely accepted everyone else’s assessment that Cammie is terrifying.

And then they actually have to spend time together.

That’s where the book became fun.

The training sessions give them something concrete to do while their opinion of one another gradually changes. I much prefer enemies-to-lovers romances when the characters don’t suddenly become different people as soon as attraction appears, and Alexandra Moody mostly avoids that problem here. Cammie remains Cammie. Seth doesn’t magically stop teasing her. They continue irritating each other even after the relationship has clearly shifted into something else.

Their banter has a playful quality rather than genuine cruelty, and it suits the overall tone of the series. Farshore describes the book as a clean, wholesome, low-spice romance built around enemies-to-lovers, grumpy/sunshine, opposites attract and “he falls first,” which is a very accurate indication of what kind of romance this is.

And Seth falling first worked particularly well for me.

There’s something satisfying about watching the more relaxed character slowly realise that his feelings are becoming very serious while Cammie is still concentrating on the practical arrangement between them. His interest feels warmer and more obvious as the story progresses, and I liked that he begins noticing sides of Cammie that other people often dismiss.

He doesn’t turn her into a different person in order to love her.

That mattered.

Cammie’s development is less about becoming nicer and more about allowing herself to be vulnerable enough that someone else can actually understand her. I would have been disappointed if the story had treated her personality as a flaw that romance needed to cure.

The skating/hockey crossover also gives the relationship a nice physical dynamic. These are two characters who both understand discipline, competition and what it means to build your life around a sport, even though their approaches are very different. Seth stepping outside his own sport and learning what Cammie needs from a skating partner creates some genuinely cute moments.

What surprised me was that I became more interested in Seth’s hockey situation than I expected.

He hasn’t simply been removed from the team because he behaved badly; there is a secret behind what happened, and when Cammie discovers the truth she is forced into a genuinely uncomfortable position. Keeping his secret means she gets to keep the partner she desperately needs. Revealing it could give Seth back the place on the hockey team that should have been his.

That dilemma gives the second half more substance than simply waiting for the couple to admit they like each other.

Cammie suddenly has to choose between what benefits her and what is fair to Seth.

For a character who has spent much of the book focused intensely on her own skating future, that decision is an important test of how much she has changed.

I did have a few frustrations.

The central relationship becomes fairly predictable once Cammie and Seth settle into training together. The fun is more in watching it happen than wondering if it will happen. That’s not necessarily a problem in a romance, but there were points where I wanted a little more uncertainty.

Some of the conflicts are also resolved more neatly than I expected. Considering how damaging both characters’ reputations have become, I thought the consequences might linger longer.

And while I really liked Cammie’s prickliness, there were moments when the same defensive behaviour repeated enough that I wanted her to move forward emotionally a little sooner.

Alexandra Moody’s writing remains extremely readable. The chapters move quickly, conversations carry most of the chemistry, and the prose never tries to turn a sweet YA sports romance into something heavier than it is.

That simplicity works.

Moody is particularly good at writing banter that sounds like two teenagers deliberately trying to get under each other’s skin. The dialogue has energy without every exchange becoming a perfectly constructed one-liner, and the Darling family connections help make the world feel continuous for readers who have followed the previous books.

Being the fourth Darling Devils book also means there is a satisfying sense of returning to familiar people rather than entering an entirely new romance universe. At the same time, Cammie finally getting centre stage gives this instalment a different personality from the earlier books.

I especially enjoyed finally seeing the Darling sister from inside her own head.

It is very easy for a character like Cammie to look intimidating, spoiled or impossible from the outside. Her own story makes it clearer how much pressure sits underneath that image and how much of her behaviour is connected to fear of failure.
That didn’t make me agree with every decision she made.

It did make me understand her.

And that is much more interesting.

Rebel Darling isn’t trying to reinvent sports romance. You can see the tropes clearly: enemies to lovers, grumpy/sunshine, brother’s best friend energy, he falls first, forced partnership and two athletes whose futures suddenly depend on each other.

But the characters make those familiar elements enjoyable.

I laughed at Cammie and Seth irritating one another, I liked watching Seth become increasingly gone for her, and I appreciated that Cammie’s character arc never required her to stop being ambitious or difficult.

Cute, fast, competitive and genuinely sweet — with an “ice princess” heroine who thankfully gets to keep some of her sharp edges.

4/5 ⭐

Thank you so much to Alexandra Moody, Farshore, Electric Monkey and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC. I really appreciate the opportunity to read and review Rebel Darling. All opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

**Rebel Darling** by Alexandra Moody promises a charming and emotionally engaging sports romance that brings together figure skating, hockey, and the complications of falling for someone you have never particularly liked. Cammie Darling is a talented figure skater whose difficult reputation has left her disqualified from competition and without a partner. Seth Walker, meanwhile, has been removed from his hockey team despite insisting he did nothing wrong. Their shared desire to get back on the ice creates an unlikely partnership with plenty of potential for conflict and chemistry.

One of the most appealing elements is the contrast between Cammie and Seth. She is known as the intimidating ice princess, while he is the brother's best friend she has never quite managed to get along with. Their training sessions gradually shift from frustration to attraction, giving the enemies-to-lovers storyline room to develop naturally. Their sporting ambitions also add an interesting dimension, as both characters must confront their reputations and learn to work together.

The secret behind Seth's removal from the team introduces another layer of tension. When Cammie discovers the truth, she faces a difficult choice between protecting someone she is beginning to care about and revealing what happened so he can reclaim his place. That dilemma promises to test their growing trust and make their relationship about more than just romantic chemistry.

With its strong heroine, opposites-attract dynamic, grumpy-sunshine appeal, and wholesome low-spice romance, **Rebel Darling** looks like an enjoyable addition to the Darling Devils series. Readers who love young adult romance, hockey and figure-skating settings, and heartfelt stories about second chances should find plenty to look forward to in Cammie and Seth's journey.

What is with figure skating moves in hockey gear/skates? Especially at the showcase. I just don’t see how the padding didn’t weight Seth down on the triple spin. But at least he was wearing the proper skates. I just don’t understand why this is a thing with these books. Not only did I have high hopes after Wild Darling, I love brother’s best friend. Then I kept reading. It started out strong enough, then after a while it began I felt like I was rereading the same chapter. It definitely dragged in some places and the third conflict was solved quickly. A couple of things were brushed over for the sake of moving the plot along.

That being said, I adored every scene with the girl group. I died of laughter during their little prank against the Darling Devils. It was also fun seeing the boys in big brother mode. The kitchen scene all the way to the bond fire was so much fun. I loved seeing Gabby find her voice. The love shack in the middle of nowhere- while definitely random choice of plot point - was pretty entertaining. I died of laughter when the Darling brothers barged into the room. Grayson questioning every life choice as pre usual. The Parker and Makenzie crumbs were everting to me. I liked Cammie and Seth’s dynamic enough to keep going. They had great chemistry and their banter, while fun, didn’t hook me the way it normally would. The Eddie plot was a little underwhelming and the epilogue was just kind of there.

Alexandra Moody really crushed this one!!
Cammie and Seth were quite literally perfect for each other, and there were so many moments that had me grinning with joy.

All the couples having a Darling family dinner was the most perfect full-circle moment, and a flawless way to wrap up the series. I loved seeing Reed trying to finish the burrito for Violet, and all the other, small, seemingly insignificant scenes that reminded me why I love this series so much. And all the girls together in the kitchen!! I love how they all feel like one big extended family. It’s nice to see snippets of all the original pairs, whilst still focussing on Cammie and Seth.

Side note: I do think it’s important to mention that the series has shifted to a middle/upper YA age rating, which is fine for me, but important to take note of for younger readers.

Overall, I’m so pleased with how Alexandra wrapped up this series, and I would totally be up for a collection of novellas with all these characters one day 🫢. Or even some spin-offs with side characters like Matt and his college girlfriend/Gabby and Owen…
The epilogue was perfect, all the couple’s endings were perfect, and I’m left feeling very satisfied.

Thank you so much to Netgalley and Electric Monkey for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I THOUGHT THE SERIES COULDNT GET ANY BETTER BUT I WAS WRONGGGGG.

This was an absolute pleasure to read as it always is with Alexandra’s books.

I thought Wild Darling was my favourite but Rebel Darling is definitely around the same level.

I love the patience and sweetness of Seth when it came to Cammie . His ability to always take care of Cammie and dealing with her sometimes harsh attitude is so sweet. I love the banter between the top and the jokes Seth always makes is soooo funny .

I loveeeeeeee the stranded in nowhere scenes 😏

I think Alexandra definitely upgraded her story telling based on a lot of scenes being outside the school .

The epilogue is also the first in the Devil Darkibgs series which i absolutely loved because I always felt like the books just ended eithout actually exploring their actual dating life .

What I really want though is like another epilogue book of them in the future in college or beyond . I think the ending sets up a nice plot for a future book for all the characters and this time actually exploring their romantic relationship of all the couples in detail.

LOVEEEE ALEXANDRAS BOOK AS ALWAYSSS

I've Been Longing For Cammie's Book All The Way Through Reading The Darling Devils Series And Rebel Darling Doesn't Disappoint. Cammie Is In Need Of Yet Another Ice Skating Partner And Her Brother Parker's Best Friend Seth Steps Up To Skate With Cammie, After An Unfortunate Misunderstanding Gets Him Kicked Off The Hockey Team. I Was Also Very Excited To Learn More About Seth After First Meeting Him In Wild Darling. The Chemistry Between Seth And Cammie Is Electric And The Banter Very Funny. The Author's Writing Style Is Very Easy To Read And Full Of Fast-Paced Chapters That Make The Story Easy To Binge And Very Hard To Put Down. The Mix Of Grumpy/Sunshine, Enemies To Lovers, He Falls First & The One Bed Trope Is Just A Pure Delight And This Story Just Brings Pure Joy To My Soul. The Family Dinner Scene Is Hilarious And Cammie's Best Friend Gabby Is Great Too. A Fabulous Send Off To A Series & It's Wonderful Characters That Have A Hold Of My Heart.

Thank You To NetGalley And The Publisher For The ARC.

I was so excited for Cammies book and it did not disappoint! I loved everything about this book.
Seth was charming and funny, while Cammie was her normal amazing self.
I saw so much of myself in Cammie and I think thats why I loved her so much!

I loved every scene in the book but one scene in particular featuring a pink bathrobe was my absolute favorite! it was intimate and sweet and also so funny!

I was so happy to read about the Darling Devils again and the cameos of Gray and Reed were awesome! I loved their protectiveness of Cammie, even though she could absolutely look after herself.

The ending was bittersweet and as soon as I finished the book I missed the Darlings already!

AHHHH OMG! ITS FINALLY OUTTTT! IVE BEEN WAITING FOR SO LONG AND IT WAS SO WORTH IT. THIS WAS SO GOOD. and sethhhhh?? Hehe. The only reason it’s not five stars is just cause it took SO long for Cammie and Seth to finally ice skate together and start practicing, but it tied into the story well so I’m not like mad or nothing just wish it was a little faster. I love how Seth brings out a side of Cammie that a lot of people don’t see. It was so fun to see how their relationship grew throughout the story. UGH THIS IS SO GREAT, READ THIS SERIES IF U HAVENT

This was by far my favourite book of the series.

Cammie and Seth seemed inevitable to me. There’s always been something there amongst the banter and the side eyes from the other books.

The plot of the story was interesting and made me not want to put the book down.
The chemistry between the main characters was amazing.
The ups and downs of the story made it all the more compelling.

I’m sad that the series is over, I love the Darling siblings, but this was definitely a perfect ending.
