MY REVIEW This book has a few mild sexual content areas, not to an extreme as to 'bad' or too many. The story is a real story of faith and how it can help you to overcome the obstacle's that may arise in your life. Kelly keeps you wanting more and has me looking for more books in this series. I would recommend this book/series as I find that Kelly is a great author, one of my favorites, and this series proves that.
This is the third book in this series but my fourth 'story' that I've read in the series. There was a short story in "The Amish Christmas Sleigh" book.
I just can't. The brother from the other book I read is made to marry the Healer of Amish Group bc he was found with his shirt off. I don't know why he wasn't shunned or told to go away bc he just does everything against what the Amish do and is so crass and hurtful to his new wife. The new wife is just a young girl, who has learned how to help other with herbs and spices (that sounds like KFC), but keeps being hurt by not knowing what to do with her knew husband. I got through about 40 pages and then I just can't find out anymore. I think the author is using the Amish as an extra, where she could have just had a book about these people's lives. Has anyone else read these books?

This book was mildly better than the second in the series. It continues the story with Edward having to marry Sarah, who is a healer. It shows the ups and downs of their first year of married life.
Sarah Mast is the newest Amish healer in her Amish Ice Mountain community. She was in love with Edward King, who ran off to the Englischer oil rigs to work, but now he is back amongst the Amish Ice Mountain community.
Edward gets caught in the cold rain and finds himself at what used to be Grossmuder May's cabin, which May left to Sarah Mast since she's the healer now, they both find themselves at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Can Edward correct his wrong doings? Is Ice Mountain still going to survive Edward's rash decision for the community? Will Sarah open her heart to Edward? Does God show Sarah Mast's father how to except her healing?
I enjoy Kelly Long writing and I enjoyed reading "The Amish Heart of Ice Mountain" and it's message that was provided while reading it. I look forward to reading more of Kelly's books in the future.
I received a free kindle copy of this book through NetGalley for an honest review. No money was exchanged. This is my honest review in my own words.
Kelly Long brings us an Amish story which is unlike the others. She writes more about their intimacies than any other Amish book I have read, but it is still a very good book. Sarah and Edward courted secretly, but after he came back from working on the Englischer's oil rig, he was different. She does not want to spend her life with him, and lets him know. Then, after a night of drunkenness (his grandfather got him started drinking at age 8), he finds shelter from the rain at her place. Her father finds edward there with his shirt off (drying). Due to strict Amish order, her dad orders them to marry right there. He promises to not touch her, which changes to not have sexual relations with her until she asks for it. The trouble is he is falling in love with her and after a few catastrophes, he wants to quit drinking. she, too, loves him but wants more than a relationship based on lust.
The interactions between the people of the Amish community as well as the conflict form the Englischman who comes to gain the rights to drill for oil on the mountain make this a great book from the start to the finish.
I received this book from the publisher through Goodreads and this is my honest review.
Kelly Long has written a series of books about the Amish of Ice Mountain. “The Amish Heart of Ice Mountain” is the latest that I have read. All the books were very entertaining and had a good storyline. My only problem with her stories is the sections where explicit intimacies are spelled out. This doesn’t seem to correspond to the Amish themes of these novels. The story moves along at a good pace and is easy to read and not readily easy to put down.
The author uses minimal imagination. The two main characters, Edward and Sarah, should really live in a bubble, as it seems they cannot get out of bed and walk to another room, without something happens that harms their body. The little emotional connection between any of the characters make this book even worse that the walking disaster characters.
He loses one eye, runs her down with a horse, she in hospital and has a broken bones. They knock over large shelves of books, domino effect in the towns library. A little friend has broken ribs.
Her little brother goes missing and when they search for him lightening hits a tree near them. The get to a cave, as she walks in she steps on something that rattles. He miraculously shoves her out of harms way, while at the same time killing the snake, while at the same time spraining his ankle. And he has a panic attack. He uses his wife, broken arm and young missing boy as crutches. Oh there was no reason given for the boy to have gone missing.
The little friend got broken ribs from his father, so Edward sneaks out at night to confront the drunk. The drunk then proceeds to whelp Edward and almost chokes him to death.
Sarah is angry at Edward. Now her father is suddenly ill! Almost dying.
That is the plot. The ONLY communication they have that is beyond a few words is sex. Oh I forgot she gets arrested, between the rattlesnake incident and the falling library shelves.
The author should put down her pencil until she takes courses to learn to use her imagination and how a good writer has the characters emotionally connect.
How do you forgive yourself? How do you forgive the others?
Sarah and Edward used to court. But now Edward drinks more and more and Sarah doesn't want him in her life anymore. But the old rules in the Amish community are strong, so when Edward is found shirtless in Sarah's company, his truthful comments about the strong rain outside and her being a community healer are wasted and they are to - marry immediately. But can a marriage like this work? Sure, there is a strong chemistry between them, but Sarah wishes for marriage based on love, not lust. And things seem to complicate for Edward - first his injury leaving him one-eyed and with scars on his face, his drinking problem and even him accidentally overrunning Sarah with his horse on a dark stormy night... Sarah has her own share of troubles, too. First her father being scared of her because her extraordinary gift of healing and then her trust in the said ability shaken when a girl dies. And yes, a husband who makes her melt into a puddle by his passionate eyes, but who is hunted by his own demons, too.
Can God make all of this better? Can he teach them how to forgive and believe that everything that happened can work because the one in the control is Him?
Very good book. I do believe that this book addresses even more important issues than the previous novel (of a high quality!). The problems of non/acceptance by themselves and others, hurtful memories, guilt, drinking problems, greed problems...name it. The previous novel was about the abuse - and while abuse is a horrible problem, I believe that the most of us are facing the "lesser" problems much more often - like the trouble with forgiving themselves and the control problems. And Ms Long can wonderfully address them in an unique way. Part of her unique way is that the plot is somehow "glued" together by the passionate romance between the main couple. And by passionate I mean sexually open. But never cheap. Ms Long writes about sex in marriage (including some passion before marriage, but not sex) as a good thing, as marriage should be good in this way too, and I agree with this kind of view. Having said that, I must confess that I was more comfortable about this kind of heated romance in the marriage of Joseph and Priscilla in the previous book, because they were both the victims to sexual abuse, so it felt good for them both to enjoy sex. Here, I could do with less pasion.
While I enjoyed a whole lot of Ms Long' s faith and wisdom, I felt certain discomfort with Sarah feeling "prejudiced" about refusing to give the herbal contraceptives to the girl who was "sleeping around". I believe that there was never clearly addressed that the girl was the one sinning and making mistakes and that it is not judgmental to refuse her to give contraceptives to help her to get rid of the possible consequences of her actions. Sarah is not any anonymous healer, she is also a member of a community believing in the certain principles. She should live towards the said principles.
Having said all of that - this is one good, quality book. It can teach you so much! And the people teaching you that wisdom are the ones I would like to have in my own life.
The series of Amish.novels about the community on Ice Mountain are different than any other Amish stories I've read. They are fun and numerous at times.
This story is the 3rd in the Ice Mountain series. It is a out Sarah and Edward who were courting but after Edward's time working on the oil this to earn money for their marriage, he is a changed.man. Sarah is the community's healer and lives in the small house alone. Edward is drunk and thinking the house is empty, he enters, removes his wet shirt, and falls asleep on the floor. When Sarah's father and the Bishop finds Sarah and Edward alone in the house though not together, they are forced to marry. This the story really gets interesting!
I am again reading out of order and part way through I realized I have read another of the Ice Mountain books but I don't recall which number in the series it was. I also have another one in my pile, one of these days I will grab the first one first when a title catches my eye. Someone was talking about the Ice Mountain series and I thought it sounded interesting and grabbed a few different titles from the library but of course I didn't put them in order just stacked and grabbed. This one was different because usually there isn't much bedroom talk in an Amish book but this book hit it pretty heavy and not much was left to the imagination.
The Amish Heart of Ice Mountain by Kelly Long is the third book in the Ice Mountain series. Sarah Mast is the new healer for Ice Mountain and she is moving into the Grossmuder May’s old cabin. Edward King was just kicked out of his brother's (Joseph) home for his drinking. He believes the healer's cabin is empty when he stumbles into it to find Sarah. Edward is wet from the rain and coming down sick. He takes off his shirt to get dry when Sarah's father and Bishop Umble enter the cabin. Sarah’s father, Mahlon Mast insist that the two get married and the Bishop backs up the decision. Sarah and Edward are married immediately! Will these two be able to make the marriage work?
Sarah gets guidance from an old journal that belonged to Grossmuder May. It provides a look into the life of May G. Miller and how she ended up on Ice Mountain. That evening a storm comes through and a big limb falls onto the cabin breaking through the roof to the bedroom where Edward was sleeping. Edward is airlifted to the hospital. He loses an eye and is left scars running down one side of his face. Edward’s drinking becomes worse making things difficult for these two newlyweds. One night Edward decides to take the horse he is trying to train out for a ride and he ends up injuring Sarah. Will this make Edward change his ways? Will this accident make someone else change their ways and repent for past misdeeds? Will Edward and Sarah ever get a happily ever after?
The Amish Heart of Ice Mountain is a lovely romance novel. This novel contains kissing, flirting, lusting, and sex (which is not why I read an Amish fiction book). There is also drinking, violence, and spousal abuse in The Amish Heart of Ice Mountain. The book is nicely written, but it is very different from other Amish fiction novels. I have read all the books in the series (this book can be read as a standalone), but this one was my least favorite (because of the things I mentioned above). There are some good messages contained in the novel, and I did like the journal entries from Grossmudder May. I give The Amish Heart of Ice Mountain 3.5 out of 5 stars.
I received a complimentary copy of The Amish Heart of Ice Mountain from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book is for adults I would say while not soft porn as such it is not a typical Amish book
The series I feel while is a good one & covers some subjects which can be in both Amish & English communities this is totally fictional series/story
First they say they have to trek up the mountain to get to the community so how does the one store get stocked & have all the goods
Secondly none seem to leave the mountain to work except the 2 brothers who worked on the gas rigs so how do they earn a living as no mention of making items to sell to a market in the big town so this don’t make for a believable community
The other thing is that as each of the 3 stories go each of the 3 siblings (Mary, Joseph & Edward) each when married do not have a full marriage to begin with it understandable with Joseph but each of the siblings sleep in the same bed as their spouse but nothing happens to start of their marriage
Then where the story fails the author then relies on detail of how they may get to the point of having a full marriage then how often they are in bed while she doesn’t go fully in to details so that is why I say it not soft porn it more than you would expect in an Amish book & of this author
If this is the way that this author is going to write it shows that she not the author as she use to be or of some of the other Amish authors as like so much of today society she trying the shock factor as it was a shock to read the way she wrote As she calls the series Amish of Ice Mountain she don’t really do the Amish or the community even the storyline about the gas company trying to drill was a disappointment in the way that storyline finished it was as if it was an afterthought if they drill or not
I did enjoy the series but did skip over some parts where she doing the intimate parts
Edward King is an Amish man from Ice Mountain. He went away for a time and worked on oil and gas rigs for a particular company. Something prompted him to write a letter to the company about the suspected gas underneath the mountain and that they should investigate. Once he comes back, we see how his life is falling apart and what has happened to him through his own thoughts while he was away from the Amish. He is forced to marry a woman that he has loved for years, though neither of them want it at this point. What happens to the 'words' that he gives her, and promises he makes basically? We see early on that his grandfather taught him some interesting things at the age of eight. What happens when he goes back to that place and the Bishop shows up? What does Edward expect will happen? What does happen? Will the oil and gas company come and set up a rig or a well on the mountain? You will have to read it to find out. Do things work out with Edward and Sarah? Once again, read it and find out. See how the hand of God mysteriously works in this Amish tale. This is one of the most interesting books written that I have read that has been Amish based. There are so many things that happen in the course of the book, I don't want to spoil it by giving much away. I will say that it is well written and I want to read other books by this author now.
RECEIVED THIS BOOK AS A GIFT FOR A FAIR/HONEST REVIEW and REVIEWER FOR Bloggin' With M.Brennan.
Really enjoyed this book! This glimpse into the Amish ways is an eye-opener. This is due especially to the life of the young healer Sarah Mast. Her trials, successes and losses shape the way she interacts with the community and the way they interact with her--a mixture of awe and trepidation. It also shapes her relationship with her betrothed, Edward King, who is very changed by his time as an oil rigger with an 'Englischer' oil company. He returns to Ice Mountain a changed man. He and Sarah decide to call an end to their marriage plans. However, when Sarah's father and the bishop arrive at Sarah's cabin and find Edward shirtless (drying off due to being caught in a downpour), they force an immediate marriage--to save her reputation. It is a trial for both of them and remains so until Edward loses his eye and is forced to cope with the results of this tragedy. Sarah finally ends the stalemate of their marriage when she asks Edward to stay with her and consummate their union. Edward also develops a sense of belonging to the community and is able save the community from a shady oil and gas scheme. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys learning about other cultures and the innate goodness of most people.
21 year-old Amisch Edward King came back to Ice Mountain in Coudersport, PA after being away, working on the Englischer oil rigs. He's an alcoholic (hard not to be when your grandfather (grossdaudi) gives you your first drink from his still when you were 8 years old).
Drunk, he ends up in the cabin of the new healer of the community, Sarah Mast - without his shirt on. And this is enough to cause an angered father to hold a "shotgun wedding."
I enjoyed learning more about the Amish community. Author Long seems well versed in the way the Amisch live their lives.
This is a heartwarming story of romance, righting old wrongs, spiritual growth, and living your life with your eyes and heart on the Great Provider.
Edward and Sarah's characters were well-drawn and developed, as were most of the secondary characters, and the story kept my interest all the way through.
NOTE: I received this book from Kensington Books through Net Galley in exchange for my honest review.
The Amish Heart of Ice Mountain definitely kept my interest through the whole book. A misunderstanding brought Sarah and Edward into matrimony. Can and will this marriage work? The author writes a beautiful message of forgiveness into her book. For me, this was a different type of book than many Amish books I've read. I did enjoy reading The Amish Heart of Ice Mountain by Author Kelly Long. It's the third book in the Ice Mountain series. I love this book and I'm so excited for Author Kelly Long's next book. I recommend reading The Amish Heart of Ice Mountain.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. This review is one hundred percent my opinion.
Edward and Sarah’s forced marriage sets off a firestorm of emotional earthquakes that rock both characters as Edward battles with his demons and Sarah, the community healer, tries to cope with his ever shifting moods. Their story is heartbreaking, mercurial and inspiring as Bishop Umble offers spiritual guidance and the demons behind Edward’s need for alcohol are revealed. I’m heartened by the sheltered Amish community of Ice Mountain, their quaint ways, strong Christian faith and loving relationships. This is a wonderful series!
Third in the Ice Mountain series by Kelly Long and a wonderful book about forgiveness. Forgiveness of others & forgiveness of self. Beautiful lessons about God's grace and what it truly means. Inspiring passages of wisdom plus some moments where I literally laughed out loud.
This trilogy (and I'm hoping there are more Ice Mountain books to come) was truly an inspiration by God and thankfully Kelly Long was listening.
This was a good look at a person conquering his fears and getting his life back on track. It happened with the love of his wife, thrust upon him and his belief in Gott as the Amish would say. Long creates believable characters, conflict and resolution placed in a perfect setting.
