Maddie's life is a tangled mess of secrets. She's grieving for Nan, struggling for Mum's attention, and scared she's losing Dad too. She keeps everything knotted up inside, unable to find her voice... until she's paired with Kieran Black – the bad-boy troublemaker in her class – and finds her confidence growing.
But when Maddie's hit by a secret that could bring her whole world crashing down, can she find the strength to face her fears?
A captivating mystery from the author of the bestselling Butterfly Summer.
Anne-Marie Conway is a primary school teacher specialising in drama, but also runs her own children’s theatre company, Full Circle. She lives in London with her husband, two young sons and two eccentric cats, Betty and Boo. Anne-Marie has written a number of humorous sketches which have been performed by her theatre company, but "Phoebe finds her voice", shortlisted for the inaugural Times/Chicken House Children’s Fiction Competition, is her first novel.
I really liked this book. It was a little hard to get into the book at first but once I read 75 pages, I was hooked. I recommend this book to anyone who likes realistic fiction books.
This book was super sad at times and Maddie coping with all her problems was depressing, there were many theories within the book and plot twists which made it interesting and shocking to read.
Haha. Även att brännbollen var en viktig del för Maddie var intressant. Faktiskt inte så ofta man läser i fiktiva böcker om att sport har hjälpt en person. En annan bok kan jag dock räkna upp också. Läsvärd iaf!
I loved this book! from the start of it i fell in love and it kept me interested and i had to keep going back and reading it i needed to find out what was gonna happen it made me think her parents were splitting up but it was actually different unpredictable which is very good in a book. I'm lost for words this book is so good they're are no words good enough to describe it. Makes me want to buy more books she publishes in the further and i probably will after i enjoyed this book so much!
I really really enjoyed reading this book- hence why it took me two days to read it. I liked the way that there was a hidden sibling that linked the different plots together- it was a really interesting aspect. This was the first book i have read by the author and i am looking forward to reading butterfly summers and forbidden friends- if they are written like tangled secrets, they will be amazing!!!
Tangled Secrets is an average book which was pleasant to read, but it did make me feel like i've read it before, I think that the author needs to find some new ideas that are a little more out there. But don't get me wrong it was a nice little read.
This book is amazing I got it for my birthday, and this is also my first time reading a story with a bad boy and I really enjoyed it. And now I want to find another story that also has this bad boy spirit. 😅😂

I loved the whole book! I can't believe it almost ended in my DNF pile. Just proves the importance of patience. Anyways, you could find this book super boring and slow at first, but after a point, you can't leave it. I got hooked around page 70. The way Conway has depicted Maddie's desire to camouflage in the background and her initial fear of asking for help is completely relatable. For reference, Maddie is in Year 8, probably thirteen years old. She is a regular adolescents, who needs attention from her parents, and this book is the perfect example of how your thoughts get tangled and imagination runs loose when you have too many secrets. I loved all the teachers, especially Vivian and Mrs. Palmer. Kieran's backstory unravels slowly, but it's extremely well crafted. Gemma was so awesome as a best friend and their relationship was very realistic and raw. The suspense is totally worth it and I was in complete shock when I reached the climax. Each and every part of the book fits in perfectly in the end. From the very start, the cover art makes complete sense and it's so beautiful. I can't give five stars because of the dragging start, but otherwise it's a perfect read for anyone wanting a YA contemporary with a hint of suspense.
Tangled Secrets was okay and had some great characters including Gemma, Kieran and Charlie. However, my biggest issue with this novel was the main protagonist, Maddie. I didn't like her! She had an over-active imagination, was self-centred and extremely annoying. Despite dealing with some important issues such as loss and anxiety, and demonstrating the importance of family and friends, I just couldn't get past Maddie's irritating narration to rate Tangled Secrets any higher than three stars.
I liked this book! I can relate this book to my life. Sometimes it's not easy to accept someone that has really special place in your heart left you for forever. I know the feeling when you keep everything tangled, twisted inside of you. I managed to finish this book only for a day. Started on morning and finished it on night. This book also made me realized that every single on this world coping their feeling in a lot of different ways. Overall, I enjoyed this book and this book has a special place in my heart!
It was definitely a slow burner, I only really got into it about half way through. I found the main character quiet irritating and if I’m honest the whole ribbon comforter seemed a little bit of a unnecessary underlying storyline that personally I found didn’t add much to the story. I did like the twist wasn’t expecting it and it definitely was intriguing. For a young adult book I found it quiet young (most likely as I’m a 20 year old and the MC was 14 so it’s harder to relate) and some bits a little immature but all in all a easy read with a few interesting twists.
I have literally read this book so many times before, however it still stands that it is absolutely amazing and extremely engaging. In this tale, we are able to see the MC handle grief and changes in her family in a really authentic way. I find that its able to connect with the readers superbly. Like its so so so so so good. I <3 Emma and Jasmine

A lovely tale of young love, loss of an important member of the family & friendships This is how you feel at 13 frightened of confrontation frightened of everything and to meet people and how to handle everything life gives you Maddie has things to face & with help she gets there
Out of the three books i've read by Anne-Marie this was probably the last in the list. It wasn't bad at all it just didnt interest the reader as much as the other two. However, the author is such a wonderful person and I was glad to have met her.
A lovely storyline, honestly. The pacing is so much more different than I'm usually used to. The emotions in the book are so wonderfully portrayed, so wonderfully raw. The Keiran storyline was something I enjoyed, although I wish there were more to it. Overall, great book :>
Started this book, but couldn’t bring myself to finish. I’m a sensitive person, so I get upset quite easily. But, from what I’ve read, it’s pretty good.
