This technique may work for loads of people, but I find that it doesn't work when I really am, and need to be, "in the zone". I've learned that when I have momentum and I am getting things done, it's best to ride the wave to a natural stopping point rather than force breaks every half hour or hour. At times when I have trouble focusing on tasks, then I use a timer or app to keep me on the task (and take scheduled breaks.) The application of this technique really depends on the kind of work you do - and the sort of team you work with (who might not appreciate being put off while you're on your pomodoro.) So I recommend reading it to see what applies to your situation, but as with most productivity advice, your mileage may vary.
