Expected 23 Feb 27
A workaholic radio station manager does her best to resist the charms of her corporate enemy in this swoony, You’ve Got Mail–inspired romance from #1 New York Times bestselling author B.K. Borison.

Maggie Lin has been seamlessly running her retired father’s radio station for years, keeping 101.6 LITE FM thriving, often at the expense of her own personal life. Her only friends are her coworkers—and her anonymous online pen pal. But when the future of the station is threatened by a Fortune 500 corporation, Maggie has to get creative to outsmart their shark of an acquisitions executive.

Cooper West arrives in Baltimore determined to put an end to Maggie’s stonewalling and finally collect his next big promotion. Armed with advice from his anonymous online friend and plenty of charm, Cooper somehow seems to know every move Maggie makes—just before she makes it. But in between the verbal sparring and office plotting, something else begins to grow. Something neither of them wants.

There’s a fine line between love and hate, and Cooper and Maggie are tap-dancing along the edge. Will their fledgling feelings be enough to bridge the gap between them? Or is this merger bad for business?

b. k. borison does it again 🙂‍↕️ this was so, so fun!

we are following maggie and cooper, who are somewhat workplace nemeses, but are obviously obsessed with each other. there’s also a pen pal plotline, which is one of my absolute FAVOURITES, and i thought it was done so well here. watching their online friendship develop while they were simultaneously butting heads in real life was so entertaining, especially knowing what we knew as the reader.

the first third of this book was a tad slow for me, and i was struggling to fully see the chemistry between maggie and cooper at first. BUT once we got into the second half, i was completely hooked. the tension really started to build, their relationship became so much more compelling, and suddenly i could not put the book down. i finished this at 2am, which i feel speaks for itself.

i also really loved maggie as a main character. she’s so passionate about the radio station and the people she works with, and i loved seeing how much she cared about keeping it going. cooper was also such a fun love interest, especially as we got to see more of him outside of his ‘intimidating’ corporate persona. their whole dynamic was just really sweet once they finally started letting themselves be honest about their feelings.

and i have to mention all the cameos from the rest of the heartstrings series because i LOVED seeing everyone again!! those little moments added so much to the book for me and made it feel like such a nice continuation of the world.

overall, this was addictive, fun, sweet, and so entertaining. i loved the you've got mail-inspired setup, the pen pal romance and the workplace rivalry. definitely recommend if you love a good romcom with lots of tension and a romance that eventually has you fully invested!!

firstly, thank you to the publisher for an arc!

please be wary of spoilers, as i want to write my thoughts down before i forget them. so, if you’d prefer to not be spoiled, please skip!

i love this series, but ultimately i think and now, back to you is my all time favorite!

while i really enjoyed longtime listener, i found that the “problem” and “secret” between cooper and maggie was tied up rather too quickly and neatly, and far too close to the ending. i really wish that it had been revealed they were in conversation with each other via reddit towards the middle of the book, rather than 90% of the way in. i understand this book is based off of or inspired by you’ve got mail, which is a romcom i’ve never seen before, so i’m not sure when the revelation in the movie happens, but again i feel we could have had more time with the characters in the aftermath of the revelation.

i also really wish there had been a little more action in preventing the station from being bought, rather than the head of orion conceding the station to maggie after realizing he had a friendship(? or were they past lovers? this also does not get expanded on, as it happens towards the very end of the book…)

we also get hints dropped that cooper was abandoned in the foster system, but his background is never expanded upon.

overall, while i really love borison’s writing and characters, this felt like the weakest of the three books when in all honesty, the third and final book in a series should be the strongest.

over the moon to have the arc. move aside, current reads, queen b k borison demands my attention.

Maggie is determined to keep her dad’s radio station afloat while Cooper, the corporate executive sent to acquire it, is determined to get her to finally give in. Between their constant back-and-forth and Maggie’s anonymous online pen pal, she has enough going on without accidentally developing feelings for the one person she absolutely should not want.

I was absolutely feral for this. Enemies to lovers is a trope I will forever be down bad for, and B.K. Borison knows how to write some GOOD hating. Their arguing had me sitting there like, "ohhhhhh this is definitely going to become foreplay eventually." 😏 And when I realized we were getting a pen-pal plot too?! PLEASEEEE. I have always been a sucker for You’ve Got Mail vibes, so I was immediately invested.

I adored Maggie. She is so fiercely loyal to her dad, her employees, and the little world she has worked herself half to death to protect. She carries SO much, and underneath all that competence and determination is someone incredibly soft and caring. I especially loved her relationships with her employees and her dad. The loyalty between them all felt so genuine and warm. I hated that people sometimes mistook her strength for a lack of softness when, really her heart was always right there🥺🥺

And Cooper? My goodness. I loved him just as much. Getting to see the person underneath the corporate villain exterior was so different from what I initially expected. His background genuinely broke my heart, and even though he was technically there to take Maggie’s business, I couldn’t help feeling for him. What really got me, though, was how much he respected Maggie. He never diminished her or underestimated what she had built. If anything, he was impressed by her, and the way he just wanted to take some of the weight and stress off her shoulders??? I CANNOTTTTTTT (we love a caring and supportive man cmon now🙂‍↕️)

And onto the banter... literally so good. So sharp. So edged. I was just waiting for the breaking point. I KNEW it was going to happen, and when that tension finally snapped, it was so delicious. But I especially loved that even after the tension broke, they still barbed back and forth with each other. They didn’t lose that part of their relationship, and I appreciated that SO much because sometimes in enemies to lovers books, once the tension snaps, the banter kind of disappears. Not here. They kept that spark, and I loved it 🙂‍↕️😝🫶🏼

I was genuinely freaking out toward the end because WHAT DO YOU MEAN THAT HAPPENED THREE CHAPTERS BEFORE THE BOOK ENDED??? Everything fell apart so fast, and I was sitting there wondering how on earth things were going to get better. 😭 and then that little plot twist??? I was STUNNED to say the least

Honestly this was the perfect wrap-up to the series. I’m genuinely sad it’s over. B.K. Borison just knows how to write a romance that feels warm, nostalgic, funny, and completely consuming. I loved the vibes of this entire series, and now I desperately need recommendations for books with that same 90s rom-com feeling because apparently that is my personality now😝😝😍🙊

(also time to go pick up the first in the series because i was in a book slump when i started it and was nottt feeling it)

favorite quotes ↓

“I argue with you because I like you, because I respect you, and because no one else makes me work for it the way you do.” “You make me better, and I think I make you better, too.”

“Because I shouldn’t like that Cooper sees all my sharp edges and only leans closer. That he gets the very worst version of myself and only ever asks for more.”

“Margaret rubs her hands together like a tiny, greedy troll.
I am, unfortunately, immediately charmed.”

“I’m pretty sure I’d agree to dancing around in a chicken costume if it meant I got to kiss Margaret again.”

“With Margaret, I simply want. And that’s an awful, dangerous, delicious thing.”

“Why else would the universe hand her to me twice, if she wasn’t supposed to be mine?”

“I was always going to fall in love with you, I think.” He doesn’t look away. “With every version of you I was lucky enough to get.”

❝I want you to only think about me, the way I'm only thinking of you.❞

Longtime Listener was a strong finish to the Heartstrings series. The characters definitely kept me interested in the story, as I wasn't the biggest fan of the plot.

Despite this, I will admit the plot setup makes it seemingly impossible that Maggie and Cooper will EVER get together. They are bitter arch enemies and Maggie Lin, the station manager of Baltimore 101.6 FM, refuses to give Cooper, the man who is sent over to try to convince the board to sell the station, the time of day. Even though they are clearly enemies, their physical chemistry is off the charts. 🔥 Hate is a strong emotion, and when emotions are running high and physical attraction is running higher, it creates explosive chemistry. There's nothing more satisfying and passionate than a hate kiss. 💋🔥 And let me tell you there were definitely some passionate hate kisses.

So the romance and the characters were not the problem. It was how the plot dragged along. Cooper's radio station, Orion was trying to buy out Maggie's radio station and it was a whole thing. This book spent too much time in the weeds. There was too much business jargon and business meetings that really didn't add much to the plot in my opinion. This also took away page time from Maggie and Cooper. They really didn't have many meaningful interactions in the first half of this book. Even though this book is technically "forced proximity," I didn't really feel like it.

But what we did get of Maggie and Cooper together was so amazing. Even when they were enemies, their interactions were so fun to read. And when they got together it was even sweeter. Both characters were individually so unique and their struggles were so real and raw.

Overall, this book was worth it for the characters alone. The plot dragged but I could look past it because of the romance and the characters. As always, it was good to see cameos from old characters like Jackson and Delilah, and Aiden and Lucie.

4 stars. ✨

Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley for the arc! All thoughts are my own, and any quotes used in this review are taken from the advance copy and may differ from the final published edition.

Oh this will probably be my most FAVORITE one. Maggie, like myself, is a workaholic and always wrapped up in taking care of everyone and everything. I just KNEW that when Cooper was introduced, there was LOTS of tension and this would be her story. I really can't wait to see how their story unfolds. Massive thanks to Berkley. You just literally made my day and possibly whole week.

B.K. Borison has officially created a problem for me because I am now completely emotionally attached to the Heartstrings universe and I have absolutely no intention of recovering. Every time I think this series has reached its peak, she comes along and makes the next book even harder to put down. At this point, I don't even read these books. I move into them. 😂

And somehow, Longtime Listener became my favorite.

There is something ridiculously satisfying about watching a series you already love grow richer with every installment, and this one gave me EVERYTHING I wanted. Maggie has always been one of those characters who felt like she had an entire story happening behind the scenes, so finally getting inside her head was such an emotional experience. She is complicated, guarded, fiercely loyal, and carrying so much more beneath that capable exterior than she lets anyone see. I loved getting to understand the woman behind the version we met in the earlier books.

And then Cooper.

Excuse me, B.K., but what exactly was I supposed to do with this man?

He arrives looking like the professional enemy I should absolutely despise, and somehow I ended up completely charmed by him. His personality, his intelligence, his vulnerability, the way he and Maggie constantly challenge each other... I was DONE. Their chemistry is ridiculously good.

This book felt like another gorgeous love letter to the kind of romantic storytelling I associate with Nancy Meyers. Give me a workplace rivalry, two people who absolutely should not fall for each other, sharp dialogue, complicated feelings, and enough romantic tension to make every conversation feel like foreplay, and I am SOLD.

The You’ve Got Mail influence is especially delicious here, with that wonderful contrast between the relationship happening in plain sight and the connection developing behind the scenes. I loved watching those two versions of Maggie and Cooper slowly collide. The banter is smart without feeling forced, the emotional conversations actually land, and the chemistry is OFF THE CHARTS.

But my favorite part might have been seeing familiar faces from the previous books pop back into the story. These aren't random little cameos thrown in for nostalgia. Getting glimpses of the people we've already loved and seeing how their lives and relationships have continued made the entire series feel like one living, breathing world. I caught myself getting ridiculously excited every time someone familiar appeared. It felt like visiting old friends and discovering they are still happily living their lives somewhere beyond the pages.

And that is exactly why I am so addicted to this series.

B.K. Borison has created characters you don't simply finish reading about and forget. You become invested in them. You care about where they end up. You want to know what happens after their happily ever after. You want to peek through the window five years later and make sure everyone is still okay. 😂

There are books that make you smile while reading them, and then there are books that somehow make your chest hurt because you've become so emotionally invested in the people inside them. Longtime Listener gave me both.

The romance, the emotional vulnerability, the workplace tension, the ridiculously good banter, the humor, the heartfelt moments... it all worked for me. I highlighted lines, laughed at conversations, melted over certain scenes, and absolutely refused to emotionally detach from these people.

I can honestly say this has become one of my favorite books in the entire series, which is saying A LOT because I have loved this world from the beginning. If you haven't started the Heartstrings series yet, please understand that I am basically standing here waving all three books at you like a completely unhinged romance evangelist.

I cannot recommend this series enough.

And B.K., if you ever decide to write another book set in this universe, I will be waiting with snacks, emotional support tissues, and absolutely zero self control. ❤️

Five completely smitten stars from me! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Finishing up this last book in the series was enjoyable, but leaned too heavily into the You've Got Mail storyline with enemies to lovers while messaging strangers who then happen to be each other at the final reveal. I don't know if I'm just hit or miss with BK's books, but they're enjoyable with fun banter, but sometimes her plots really don't go anywhere and her characters aren't really developed.

First time caller was my favorite, I DNF her second one, and this one was just fine.

Thank you to Berkley and Negalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

It's been hard to find words to properly explain how much I loved this book, and this series. BK Borison is such a talented writer. She really pulled on my heartstrings (hehe) with Maggie and Cooper, and I haven't stopped thinking about them since I finished the book. This was a rare instance in which I checked how far into the book I was and couldn't believe I was already 75% through!! I would have read hundreds more pages of these two bickering. She really made us sympathetic to Cooper, who I wasn't sure how she was going to bring us around to. I was swooning over him. And I'm pretty sure I fell in love when he literally had to explain that he wasn't insulting her, he was FLIRTING with her.

The Heartstrings series holds a special place in my heart, and I'm going to miss it SO much.

what to expect:
- found family
- he falls first
- insults as flirting
- workplace romance

And if this is Baltimore propaganda, it's working on me.

With BK's meteoric rise in the romance world now courting adaptation material and a readership on the cusp of every crumb she drops, I'm shocked and also baffled to say that Longtime Listener isn’t her strongest outing and out of her staggering originality in the Heartstrings series this book felt: stale, washed out, and a honestly I hate to say it...a cash grab. I see an author running on creative fumes, not the B.K. that I first read in First Time Caller.

Longtime Listener doesn’t feel like we’re closing a series, doesn’t feel like a love letter to You’ve Got Mail, doesn’t have that magic that was captured with character work and substance that existed in First Time Caller plus And Now, Back to You. We're given dismal sketches of Margaret and Cooper. I had to cobble my brain to remember, Margaret was introduced as an Asian character in the previous books, but how incidents of racism (that had no content warnings for readers?) were handled in this book weren't to my liking. It felt icky, performative, and left an unsettling feeling with me. Cooper felt like a blank page with some trauma thrown in to make him interesting, it didn't feel genuine. It didn't feel like this was written with care.

At the beginning of the year, I said I hope B.K. Borison doesn't let me down, and sadly she has. Maggie and Cooper deserved a better story, one not filled with reveals that lacked memorability, affection that isn't built on confusing animosity and endless coffee drop-offs, and finally, not be treated as one dimensional.

What did I enjoy? After racking my brain, I don't know if I enjoyed anything. I initially wanted to give this book 3 stars, but in a shocking turn of events this is the first time I'm rating a BK book 2 stars. Longtime Listener, is overhyped, inflated by a readership unwilling to break from an author's aesthetic, and sadly a series that doesn't land its ending.

My thanks to Berkley Romance for the early digital arc. #BerkleyPartner

No, please, you don’t understand. I love them so much.

Best workplace rivals to lovers yet. Bold statement maybe? And listen, I’m trying to be considerate with my quotes because it’s not released yet, but trust me, the banter is everything. And not even just our mains, I love ALL of the relationships.

“I don’t know how to handle the two of you getting along,” Aiden mutters under his breath.

“We’re not getting along,” I correct at the same time Cooper says, “Then shut your eyes, asshole.”

My found family 🫶🏼

AIDEN VALENTINE. Honey, I’m home! If the goal was to convince me to reread FTC, you have succeeded, because my man got PLENTY of air time and this book effectively reignited my crush.

My only real complaint is that it wrapped up too quickly. My Kindle said 18 minutes left, I WANT THOSE 18 MINUTES!! Forever greedy, I guess. 😔

I think FTC still reigns supreme (I’ll have to reread to verify), but this is a very close second. I’ll absolutely revisit this series over and over again because it has that perfect 90s rom-com feeling. BK just knows how to create a vibe.

So grateful to have gotten one of my most anticipated reads as an e-ARC!!! Thanks NetGalley 💓

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for the ARC of this!

I truly love this series. I devour each book, they are so quick and easy and delightful- and this one is no exception.

I relate to Maggie in so many ways, I am fiercely headstrong, stubborn and quick witted. So to see another character portrayed that way was so amazing. I literally found myself laughing out loud at some parts. This is definitely going to be a popular book, and with good reason.

the tragic feeling of starting a book loving it and ending up feeling like you've been gaslighted into it. i'm so bummed the starting was so strong and then she gets lost in the sauce like she does usually in the books that don't work for me. bk borison is always a hit or miss author for me but i keep trying for the hits, unfortunately this just felt flat. telling me these characters love each other and not showing me will always make me dislike a book and i felt no love between these characters, we have no explanations for how they started messaging one another is just implied its been going on for years but it felt ingenuine and awkward at times, it honestly feels this book was made for us to love cooper and all maggie has in the end is him. Truly sad i didn't love this one.

4.5 ⭐️ omg I love this series 😭 I wish there were like 15 more books bc I’d read every single one with a smile on my face

This is definitely my top 2, it only loses to First-Time Caller (which is my absolute favorite) but tbh it’s a veryyy close second. I loved Cooper, but I especially loved Maggie. My girl definitely pushed my patience a little too far at times, but I will defend her forever!!!! The banter between them was exceptional and I really loved the little glimpses we got of their pen pal relationship. For me, this was just shy of 5 stars bc I thought the final resolution was a little silly and felt like it came out of absolutely nowhere. But overall, this has definitely become one of my favorite romances.

huge thank you to berkely for this arc 🩷📰

3.5 stars (rounded to 4) this was such a fun read! i absolutely loved the banter between cooper and maggie, especially getting snippets of them in the 2nd book. this book didn’t click for me as much as the 2nd book did but i did have fun! their dynamic was super cute and watching them both break down each others wall was so satisfying and cute to read about. maggie lin has my heart i saw myself in her internal battles that she had with herself. and sweet cooper 😭😭 my heart ached for him and his buried feelings. i genuinely loved the setting of this book, but i did wish we got to see maggie and cooper has a couple a little more. there was times i was bored of the story and i felt like the conflict was solved pretty quickly and i would’ve liked to see it panned out a bit more and not rushed out - other than that, im so excited for this book to be out in 2027!!!!!
