NIGERIAN HUSBANDS GO DRAG YOU FOR MUD immediately pulls you in with its bold title, but beneath the satire is a surprisingly emotional and psychologically layered story about marriage, migration, survival, and identity. What stood out to me most was how real the characters felt, especially Chioma. Her exhaustion, frustration, and emotional confusion felt painfully authentic. The dialogue between her and Ayomide was sharp, tense, and deeply relatable in a way that made several scenes feel uncomfortably real.
I also appreciated how the novel explored the immigrant experience without filtering out the loneliness, racism, financial pressure, and emotional isolation many people quietly endure. One line that stayed with me was, “If it wasn’t for the situation of our country that forced us here, would we have been tolerating this modern-day slavery?” That single sentence captures so much of the emotional weight this story carries beneath the humor and satire.
What surprised me most was the suspense woven into the story. The mysterious moments surrounding Chioma and the constant sense that something is wrong gave the novel an unsettling atmosphere that kept me reading. This is the kind of book that will spark conversations because it refuses to simplify marriage, gender roles, or human behavior. This was a memorable read for me.

This was such an intriguing, unpredictable and thoroughly dramatic read. What initially seemed like a straightforward story quickly turned into something much more complicated.
The story centres on Chioma and Ayomide, a Nigerian couple who relocate to the UK despite their already troubled marriage.
Just when I thought I understood the characters and where the story was heading, the author threw in multiple unexpected twists which made me to keep shifting my perspectives about each character.
I particularly enjoyed how morally complicated the characters in this book were. Nobody was entirely innocent, and I found myself constantly questioning who deserved my sympathy.
I also loved the Nigerian flavour of the story and the way the author balanced heavy themes with wit and humour. The result was a dramatic, unpredictable thriller that kept me engaged until the end.
The ending was epic. I didn't see that coming, and I'm hoping the author has a sequel in mind because I am not ready to leave these characters yet!

BOOK REVIEW✨📚
NIGERIAN HUSBAND GO DRAG YOU FOR MUD BY NNEOMA MICHELLE EGEONU @nneomamichelleegeonu
This book was heavy, heartbreaking, and frustrating in a way that felt very intentional.
At its core, Nigerian Husband Go Drag You For Mud is a story about family, migration, survival, and the devastating effects of domestic abuse. It follows Chioma and Ayomide, a Nigerian couple trying to build a life in the UK, but beneath the surface of their marriage lies years of pain, control, betrayal, and silence.
What stood out to me most was Chioma. She carried so much on her shoulders while trying to keep her family together, and there were so many moments where I wanted to reach into the pages and hug her. Watching her navigate motherhood, school, work, marriage, and her own emotional battles was both painful and compelling.
Ayomide, on the other hand ,let’s just say he spent most of this book testing my patience. Every time I thought he couldn’t possibly get worse, he somehow found a way.
One thing I really appreciated was the narration. Gozie brought a unique voice to the story, adding moments of humor and sharp observations even when the subject matter became difficult. It balanced the heaviness of the book beautifully.
And that ending??? The ending had me in an absolute chokehold. I just sat there staring at the pages trying to process everything. It was shocking, and the perfect reminder that this book was never afraid to go where it wanted to go.
This isn’t a light read, but it’s an important one. It explores abuse, patriarchy, family expectations, and the realities many women face behind closed doors. Some scenes made me angry, some made me sad, and others left me sitting quietly, just thinking.
If you enjoy character-driven stories that tackle difficult but important issues and aren’t afraid to make you uncomfortable, this is one worth picking up.

The book is a good blend of cultural satire and domestic thriller. Set primarily in the UK, it follows Chioma and Ayomide as they navigate the extreme pressures of immigration, from the crushing weight of international school fees and rent to the exhausting grind of shift work.
Gozie, the narrator, made some parts so funny and even frustrating, so I experienced all the emotions through him. He was a breath of fresh air while reading.
It’s an easy, fast-paced read that manages to explore heavy themes like identity and sacrifice without losing its entertaining edge.
I also love the interior layout because it brings the whole story to life. Everything put together works beautifully, especially in portraying marital expectations, infidelity, and the dark realities of domestic abuse.
Kudos to the author.
