Charity White can’t forget the horrific crime that happened ten years ago when she and her best friend, Andrea, spontaneously cut through the woods on their way home from high school. In the middle of their trek, a man abducted Andrea, who hasn’t been seen since.
Since that fateful day, Charity has tried to outrun the memories and guilt of that one hasty decision. What if she and her friend hadn’t taken that shortcut? Why wasn’t Charity taken instead of Andrea? And why weren’t the police ever able to track down the bad guy?
When Charity receives a mysterious letter that promises answers, she decides to face her worst nightmare. She returns home to North Carolina in search of closure and a touch of the peace that has eluded her for the past decade. With the help of her new neighbor, Police Officer Joshua Haven, Charity begins to track down mysterious clues. They soon discover that they must work together or both of them will be swallowed by the looming darkness.
Christy Barritt is an author, freelance writer and speaker who lives in Virginia. She’s married to her Prince Charming, a man who thinks she’s hilarious—but only when she’s not trying to be. Christy’s a self-proclaimed klutz, an avid music lover who’s known for spontaneously bursting into song, and a road trip aficionado. She’s only won one contest in her life—and her prize was kissing a pig (okay, okay… actually she did win the Daphne du Maurier Award for Excellence in Suspense and Mystery also). Her current claim to fame is showing off her mother, who looks just like former First Lady Barbara Bush When she’s not working or spending time with her family, she enjoys singing, playing the guitar, and exploring small, unsuspecting towns where people have no idea how accident prone she is.
Charity has returned to her North Carolina home town to sell off her dad's home after he has passed away. But will she be able to live in this small town long enough to get it sold, or will memories of the past cause her to leave?
Full of suspense, twists and turns, and numerous surprises, Charity has to relive the events of 10 years earlier when her best friend was kidnapped during their walk home from school and has never been found. Or will Joshua, a sheriff and her next door neighbor, be able to help her finally solve the mystery and gain peace and perhaps a new life?
There is non stop suspense as Charity White returns to North Carolina in search for answers about her best friend's abduction and to find closure. With the help of neighbor police officer Joshua Haven she races to find what happened to Andrea. I loved the suspense and the characters that Christy Barritt brought to life and I look forward to reading more of her books. This book was part of Beyond the Shadows: A Christian Romantic Suspense Boxed Set .
Got this as part of a set a few years ago and kept getting interrupted. Didn't even realize it wasn't the first book in the series until too far in to switch back. Didn't matter, but I still need to go back and read the first one. Maybe because it was an older book, I realized I like some of the newer ones (Lantern Beach and Worst Detective) better, which won't stop me from catching up and finishing this series. Everything by Christy Barritt is good to read.
Charity was back to face her fears and hind the truth. She also found the truth in life. Through good example and trusting friends she found life. Good story that offered suspense and left one guessing what was happening next. I had a hard time putting it down. Another good job Christy. You rock.
Gone by Dark is the 2nd book in this series. The characters are different from the 1st book but they are great characters. I really enjoyed the suspense in this book. Besides the suspense, the tough of romance adds a lot to the story. I also was amazed at the strong bond the main character, Charity, had with her abducted friend.
I've read this series backwards. But never the less they are best good Read regardless what order you read them. The mystery stories keep you turning pages. Christy Barritt has a way of keeping you up Al night reading her books. And waiting for the next books to come. Love your writing.
Gone by Dark is an awesome suspense/romance. The book is very well-written with a plot that kept me guessing until the very last moments of the book. I highly recommend this book.
It's nice to read a book and not worry about obscenities and uncomfortable scenes. Thank you for your spiritually fulfilling yet suspenseful storylines! I've only read two books and I'm hooked!
After her best friend is abducted in front of her when they are children, Charity cannot wait to get away from the small town she lives in. Years later a mysterious letter promising her answers draws her back. Will she find answers or will she pay the ultimate price?
This was a great mystery book. It held your interest till the end. I kept trying to figure out the ending but was surprised still. This book was full of mystery, intrigue and some clean romance. It was an excellent second book. Looking forward to the next sequel which I am reading now.
This story is somewhat different. So captivating, keeps you from putting it down. Who done it was someone you'd not think of and for a reason you'd never have thought.
This book is full of suspense and mystery. There is no profanity or sex in the story and the story line discusses going to church and having faith in God.
I really enjoyed this book.....lots of action and never able to predict what was happening next. This series is definitely one of the best that I have read!
