Promise Me Once

Once with him was never enough.

I am the girl you dislike. The girl you snub at parties. I am the one who flirts with men and knows no boundaries. I am the one you whisper about. The one who has no rules. I am the one who takes and uses without any regret or excuses.

On the outside I am perfect. I have money, looks, and a personality that makes people stand up and take notice, but on the inside I am broken and hurting.

Then I met Cash Marshall.

He wasn’t what I needed, but I wanted him anyway. It was Cash’s carved, muscular body I thought about. It was his cool, confident touch I craved. I swore he would only be a one-night stand, another distraction to take away the pain.

But then our world changed.

Our story is not about love. Love is pretty and sweet and full of niceties. Those no longer exist. Our story is about finding each other again in a world gone crazy. It’s about surviving the impossible when war ravaged our land. It’s about saving each other from the darkness and finding out just how strong we could be.

And maybe, just maybe, along the way, we’ll find love…

Once and for all.

5 Lights Out Stars

Oh Yeah Baby....Paige Weaver has turned the lights out. Again. And you have never been so happy to be in the dark.

Catarina is a Brand-Name-Wearing, Spoiled-Brat. She has hardened her heart. For everyone's sake. You see, she has already lost so many she loves that she doesn't want to take that chance again. So the heart hardening. Instead, she has decided to be a user. She will screw 'em and leave 'em. It's just best for everyone that way.

I was beautiful. Everyone said so. Someone had even described me as being Photoshopped in real time. But I knew the truth. The ugly truth.
Inside I was flawed. A mess.

Cash is a sexy cowboy who is concerned with his cattle and paying his bills. He doesn't know Gucci from Prada. When he meets Cat, he knows he is over his head. Quickly.

What the hell was I doing with her I didn't know.

Cash and Cat are play a fast paced game of chase until Cat remembers the Heart Hardening thing. Then...the lights go out. Literally.

Cash and Cat now have new priorities. Their family. Safety. Survival. Can they find their way back to each other. And what will be left of them if they do?

Ms Weaver takes us back to her darkened United States. The problem with this Possible Future is that is a possible future.

There were a few times I wanted to throw my Kindle across the room. There are no guarentees in the dark. No one is safe.

Don't be fooled by Ms Weaver's sweet personality and soft spoken nature. Underneath that Texas drawl is wicked writer's heart who doesn't mind tearing yours apart.

I had known anguish. I had lived it. Breathed it. Walked down its dark path and let it consume me.

I had forgotten how much I loved Ms Weaver's writing. She has once again created a dark place you don't want to leave.

She did it again: weave a dark modern tale of a not so unbelievable future world with strong characters and romance as background.

I loved all of Paige Weaver's books and ” Promise Me Once” earned its place on my “best” shelf alongside “Promise Me Darkness”,” Promise Me Light” and “Sweet Destruction”.

Each and every time, I fall in her story from the very first word and that’s what I’m looking for: forgetting my world, my worries, my chores, everything and live other's lives for a few hours.

Her characters could be your neighbor, the girl next door but they are put under tremendous pressure and have to adapt, to become stronger, to become heroes.

Cat has experienced a dramatic accident. It has left her bruised, ridden by guilt and grief. Her coping mechanism is to use boys to forget. She does not deserve to experience love again while others are dead because of her.
Daughter of an oil tycoon, she acts like a spoiled brat and seduces men with her flawless beauty. She plays the b**** to avoid feelings, one hook up and she leaves. But inside, she cries.

Cash is THE cowboy. Hardworking, honest, polite and panty dropping hot (with hat and all). Even if he knows she is high maintenance and they are world apart, he’ll fall for Cat, hard. But he won’t be a puppet in her hands as he is strong and down to earth. He’ll take her for the ride of her life (pun intended) and he won’t be able to forget her. But neither will Cat forget Cash, even if she leaves, scared of her feelings.

Soon the war we read about in “Promise Me Light” hit their lives. It’s chaos in the US and survival of the fittest. It was really hard to read about their loss, their fight, the atrocities of war. I cried for Cat, her family and friends.

I did not think I would be able to like Cat and Cash as much as I liked Ryder and Maddie but I did.
I unexpectedly loved Cat. I was the first surprised as I usually don’t like heroine using and abusing men as coping mechanism. The b**** and spoiled brats are not my type of heroine and most of the time I want to slap them. Maybe tear their perfect dress and mess with their shiny hair too…
Her guilt is what redeemed Cat in my eyes as well as her vulnerability hidden behind her act. She could not forget Cash and could not/ would not crush him. I wanted them to find each other again and above all else, I wanted Cat to let her walls drop.
Put to the test, she became stronger, fighting like a lioness to protect her friends and family. Gone was the queen bee.

I loved Cash: hot, well mannered, domineering, protective, lethal…I could go on and on. Mmmmh these grey eyes!

I loved the side characters, particularly Cat’s brothers. Nathan is strong and loyal and Tate was young but determined and protective of his sister.

And above all else, I loved that this story was believable if frightening. Who does not want to have a little thrill and imagine “what if...”? That’s what this book did: make me fear, make me wonder and make me hope for an HEA.

My only complaint: it ends on a cliffhanger and now I have to wait for book 2.

I need some Cash -- and that has nothing to do with money! Cash Marshall, "looked like a recovering sex addict's worst nightmare." Another swoony cowboy in Dallas to drool over, ladies. He’s a hard working, hay throwin' Texan who falls hard for someone he never expected to.

Cat is a "numb and wild" child. Town royalty. Spoiled, gorgeous, famous one-night-stand queen! Until Cash. Their chemistry is apparent from the very start.

I loved, loved, loved the first two books in this Promise Me series. This most recent one can be read as a standalone, and is set within the time period of the first book. As before, this edition has steamy, dreamy love scenes with a huge twist of events!!

"...too surreal to believe. Too terrible to understand."

And yet, it all could happen. Which makes this a great read. With believable characters and events, there is something intoxicating about Ms. Weaver's writing. I read a lot of books, but very few get my heart racing and make me hold my breath. Paige has NEVER disappointed me with that. The men she brings alive on the pages are real, breathtaking, manly men. Perfect; flaws and all.

This is NOT your typical cowboy romance. At all. So glad to finally read Cash's story and cannot WAIT for more! I loved every page. ~ Krissy, 5 "Take me, cowboy" stars!

I just finished Promise Me Once and I really enjoyed it. This is a first for me from this author and with not knowing what to expect I was pleasantly surprised. This story seems to be apart of a series but can be read as a stand alone. I was hooked from the get go. I thought I knew where it was going then it shifted into something else....and I really liked that. I know nothing of the other stories and honestly that made it all the better for me. It had everything u could ask for. Heartbreak, secrets, denied love, survival, second chances. Everything. It reminds me of Walking Dead without the Zombies. I can't wait to see what comes next. This story left me satisfied yet wanting more!!!

Where to start… we finally have Cash's story!!! YAY!!! Half of Cash's story - boo!! Promise Me Once is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone, however, this story's not over yet. Someday, when there are no more, I'm gonna sit down and read them all back-to-back-to-back and completely immerse myself in this world!!!

We met Cash in Promise Me Darkness and Promise Me Light, playing second fiddle to that Ryder guy… the premise of the series is awesome. What would you do if the power went out and a war was in your backyard? Set in Texas, that's exactly what happened. It's a crazy new world and only the strong survive.

Cash is that dark brooding cowboy. Calculated, deadly, hot as hell… you know the one! We get to see what made him that way. I have never been able to put my finger on exactly what it is about him that makes me want him as my next BBF, but I think I know now!!! And oh my gosh! What a spicy affair it is! This book is HOT!!

I've been #teamcash since the beginning… Ryder was ok, but to me Cash stole the show. Of course, in my mind, no woman would ever be good enough for him. Especially not some self-proclaimed bitch on a mission. WOW! Paige Weaver did such a good job with her character!! Caterina "Cat" owned it. She was "perfect", a bitch, a spoiled rich girl, and so beautifully damaged, that I really, really loved her.

I'm telling you… read this book! The struggles are so plausible, it's like you're witness to the whole experience. It's not pretty. It's not perfect. It's a new reality.

(If you haven't read Promise Me Darkness and Promise Me Light - what are you waiting for?!?!)

I met Cash in Paige Weaver’s Promise Me Darkness and Promise Me Light. I knew from reading him in those books that he would prove to be an interesting character. He wasn’t much for words in that series but for some reason his presence dominated the pages. When I finally got my hands on Promise Me Once, I was completely enamored by him. He not only dominated this story, he demands the readers attention.

I’m not sure who I was expecting Cash to fall for, but I did know that it would have to be someone pretty fantastic, Cat was definitely who I was not expecting. She has an air of privileged to her. She gets what she wants, when she wants it and laughs at any man who thinks they can have more. I didn’t like her, I wanted to ask Paige WHY?! Why Cat of all characters she could have created why her? I trust Paige’s judgement because, well, she’s the author and she has yet to let me down. The more I read about Cat the more I realized that she is putting up one hell of a bravado. She’s very much the scarred heroine that hides it behind smart comebacks and claws. The night that Cash and Cat meet, leaves Cash reeling. He shouldn’t want her, she doesn’t fit in to his mold and he doesn’t fit in to hers. So why can’t he just let her go?

“Yeah, well can’t forget a cat with claws,” he drawled, his eyes moving up my body slowly, laughter in them."

When Cash insists on a date with Cat, she accepts. Even though every part of her is screaming not to, she can’t deny her need to play. Her intentions are to make Cash just another toy, to take control and make him wish he never met her. What she wasn’t expecting was for Cash to take that control from her. I don’t think Cash could ever be in any situation that he doesn’t control, even in the most uncomfortable of situations. His personality won’t allow it. So, when Cat’s plans disintegrate and she is shown exactly what kind of man she has taken on, her walls begin to crumble. What I discovered in that moment was that Cash didn’t need Cat, Cat needed Cash. Even though later the reader discovers the depths of Cash’s need for her, Paige created a female who needed a stubborn, dominate and controlling man to bring her back in to the world.

What I loved most about this book is the vivid story this author weaves. In her previous series there was a war that broke out creating chaos. I wasn’t sure going in to this story if the war was in full effect, if it was prior to the war or after. Well, imagine my surprise when the war hits in the middle of their story. I was completely floored by how detailed and to the point Paige wrote these scenes. It was like watching a movie play out in my head. Seeing what the war could do to people, how disgusting and disturbing people can become in times like that.

I have been waiting so long for this story. When I finished it all I can say is, not at anytime was I even slightly disappointed. Paige Weaver did a phenomenal job with this story, it was more then I could have ever asked for. She wrote characters that I could talk about as if I personally know them or as if we were my neighbors, that’s how complex they are. I wish there were even words to form to say how absolutely beautiful this authors writing is. She creates stories you will never forget.

Do you remember Cash? It had been so long I didn't... which meant that I had to reread the first two books. I'm not a big re reader. I'd love to, but I usually don't have the time.

Re reading Promise Me Darkness and Promise Me Light reminded me just how much I LOVE theses books and how amazing the main characters in this series are. Then of course I was kicking myself! How could I forget the No nonsense, sexy cowboy Cash!!

Promise Me Once takes us back to the beginning and shares where Cash was when the world was delivered into darkness. (Because we travel back to when the story began, this can actually be read as a standalone.)

Cash is a cowboy. Raised by good people to be a good man. (It's an added bonus that he's sexy as hell!) Like any good Texas cowboy, he has integrity. When he meets a vixen named Cat he is amused, aroused, and intrigued.

Cat is a spoiled brat, tormented by loss and past mistakes. (Be prepared to hate her in the beginning.)

"I had become every woman's nightmare and every man's dream. I went to bed with Jack Daniels and woke with strangers. I had money to spend and no one to tell me I couldn't do it. I lived life to the fullest and hated every moment of it."

Through the ashes of the old world Cat is forced to put down her silver spoon and fight to live and protect those she loves.

This is a fantastic addition to the Promise Me series. You will not be able to put it down. If you have yet to read the other books, then congratulations! You have just found a new series that is sure to become one of your favorites!

Promise Me Once will hold you from beginning to end! It will have you questioning yourself... What would you do? How would you survive. If you're like me, you'll pray you find your own Cash

This is the third book in the Promise Me series. And let me tell you, I was hoping this book was going to be about Cash. He was a favorite of mine in the last book. There is something about a dark, brooding cowboy that really intrigued me. Plus, there was a story behind him that I knew was meant to be told. Weaver definitely delivered with Promise Me Once and the story of Cash and Cat.

We go back into the past a little bit to see into the early makings of how Cash and Cat met before the world collapsed around them. Cash is seemingly happy on his family's farm. He's content in life and his role on the farm. He's not searching for anything really but when he meets Cat, I think he finds what he didn't know he wanted. Cat is daring, smug, knows what she wants, and very haunted. Cash sees all of this but still can't fight the pull he feels toward her. And neither can she. She's not ready to get involved with a man like Cash or any man, but she reluctantly falls for him in their brief time together before the fall of the country.

I liked the setup of Cash and Cat's relationship. It was hot and steamy right off the bat and really created such a lust factor for Cash. Umph! I liked how we got into Cat's head and got to see what drove her to do and act the way she did. They whole dynamic of their relationship was great. But it was a little drawn out. Weaver spent half the book with the backstory of how they met and developed their relationship. I felt that this could have been taken care in a more concise manner. I kept waiting for what life was going to be like for them after the fall, but it felt like it took forever.
When we did see the fall and their separation, that's when the story really picked up for me.

The second half of the book was my favorite part. I'm so interested in the world building that Weaver has created after the fall of the US. I loved seeing how her characters survive, what they have to do to make it by. Even if I felt some of it was glossed over, I still delved into the post-apocalyptic world headfirst.

But gah!! Weaver left us on a cliffhanger!! I wanna scream!! What's going to happen to Cash and Cat now? Weaver, you better get the next book written ASAP!! I'm dying over here.

I have to admit that I really didn't like Cat at the beginning...her way of coping with the loss and pain makes complete sense to me, and I also understand that she doesn't want to feel but boy did her actions rub me the wrong way. It may be because I already know the type of man Cash is and the way he protects, but it definitely took me a bit to warm up to Cat.

At first, I didn't think I would like the big time gap between the two parts of the story, but as everything was explained and played out, it was made clear how much effort went into traveling even short distances, so it would definitely take time to get places.

Cash Marshall is a real life cowboy through and through, and even though he can tell that Cat Phillips is nothing like him, he’s drawn to her for some reason and wants to find a way to get through her wall regardless of how impenetrable she makes it. They share a few steamy encounters, but that’s all that Cat can give him because of her damaged heart and the guilt that won’t allow it…but more than that…the darkness that reigns down on the United States – the devastation that separates them and forces both Cash and Cat to fight and survive in ways that they never imagined makes what they’re dealing with on a personal level seem irrelevant, even though they’re never far from each other’s minds.

Catarina "Cat" Phillips is not a character every reader will love, maybe even like; she’s a bitch, and she uses men and alcohol so that she doesn’t have to face her issues. Cat does grow as a character, but, in a way, she’s forced to because of what she’s faced with at the hands of death and destruction. Would it have happened without an apocalypse ensuing, probably not, but that doesn’t mean her newfound understanding and growth isn’t real.

Cash and Cat's story isn't over at the end of Promise Me Once, but it stops in a place that makes sense and won't leave readers too upset. It’s too soon to tell where Cash and Cat are headed as a couple or how the situation that surrounds them will play out given the chaos that still ensconces them. Their struggles are still their reality and the lurking dangers still threaten them.

Overall Rating: 4.5/5 Stars

Breakdown of Rating

Plot: 4.7/5 I wanted something more...just a little.
Character: 5/5 Love, love, love Cash, and Cat is feisty and angsty and sequentially in need of some serious love.
Theme: 5/5
Flow: 5/5
Originality: 5/5 For the Promise Series as a whole.
Book Cover: 5/5
The Feels: 5/5 Oh yeah, all the feels...
Sex Factor: Yes, but her sex scenes are just so SEXY.
Ending: 4/5 The last 20% of this book goes to someplace really peculiar, and I'm reluctant but ultimately anxious to see where the story is going. Cliffhanger: Yes!!! Seriously, you did it again. I'm not sure that I like that

Will I continue the series: Yes, I have too…would love a date as to when Promise Me Forever is coming out.

My Thoughts:

They bill this book as a stand alone, but in my opinion you won't get the full effect of this story unless you have read the first two books in the series. You won't get to know the Cash from Maddie and Ryder's story, and you would be missing out.

I've read quite a few apocalyptic books; and a part of me is freaked the fuck out by the thought of an EMP going off. I can't seem to help reading them, though. I'm just sucked in by them. This series is different. That's because they have a strong romance element to them. I really like that part of this series, it softens the blow, so to speak of the harshness of "the end of the world as we know it" aspect to these stories.

Shannon's Thoughts
PROMISE ME ONCE was everything I loved in the connected books, Promise Me series.  It had me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next.

PROMISE ME ONCE happens around the same time as the first two books in the series, except this story focuses on Cash's life before he met up with Ryder, Maddie and Gavin.  We discover Cash was a quiet man before the attack.  Someone who was content with living a simple life on his family's farm.  But his quiet life started changing the minute he met Cat.  She sparked an interest in Cash that he couldn't fight, even though he really tried.  Cash discovers he's willing to do just about anything for this woman that drives him crazy.

Despite Cat making it easy to not like her, I found myself liking her.  I understood why she pushed people away and acted the way she did when she first met Cash.  She was using sex and alcohol to dumb her feelings, but you saw how much she feels in the way she takes care of her brothers or even her breakdown when the world changes.  But Cat steps up when she needs to and becomes fiercely protective of her little family.  It's hard not to like her.

Cash and Cat spend a fair amount of the book apart, but I loved how they were never far from each others thoughts.  Despite what both of them have had to endure after life as they know it changes, you know the explosive chemistry they had when they first met was going to be something that helped carry them through the rest of their lives.  I can't wait to see what happens with them and their little clan as they continue on their journey home in the next book.

If you haven't read the first two books in the Promise Me series, that's ok when it comes to PROMISE ME ONCE.  Although happening in the same period of time and featuring a few characters, this is a stand alone (although I do recommend reading them) that I highly recommend.  This was a page-turner I had a hard time putting down.

I love Paige Weaver and her stories. I really liked Promise me Darkness and Light- you do not have to read those to read this one- however- I always suggest it. I love the premise of this series, no electrical power, just darkness- and war everywhere, can you imagine? I can't and neither did the characters- but this story is one of overcoming obstacles and how the strong survive

.

I am so glad to have Cash's story- well part of it anyway, because there seems like there should be so much more! Cash was in Promise me Darkness and Light- and he was second seat to Ryder, the hero. Cash is tall, dark, and handsome. And brooding, but why? And in this story we get to see why, to see what made him the way he was. He is totally hot, and as much as I loved Ryder- Cash might be right up there with him.

Caterina "Cat" was a definitely that- a HELL cat. I called her that through the entire book. She played the spoiled little rich girl 100% perfectly. Yet, she was totally damaged as well. Her character was so well written, bravo Paige- how did you get me to love such a little devil?

This book is so well written, and tells a story of what could happen- and makes it seem like reality to me. I can't even wrap my head around the concept of no electricity and war in my backyard. But it seems the characters in Paige's novels get by. There HAS to be another story, and I will eagerly await, and try to be patient!! BUT HURRY PAIGE!!

When the situation gets tough Cat becomes a take charge woman, "we’re going to clean ourselves up,” I told her, slamming stuff on the counter. Soap. Deodorant. Hairbrush. “We’re going to walk out of here with our damn head held high. Everyone can suck it. We’re survivors, Keely. Understand?" Cat and Cash balance each other out each knows how to push the others buttons, "I ran my hand down his chest to the top of his jeans. “Well, cowboy, sometimes dreams really do come true.” He groaned when I ripped his zipper down." Cash has changed over the years the boy learned to be more forceful where Cat is concerned, "let’s get one thing straight, Cat. We’re together . You’re mine and I’m yours. No one can chase your a** anymore but me. I don’t know what you’re so afraid of but get over it.” He gave me another hard kiss, sealing his words with his mouth." The book ended on a cliffhanger wasn't impressed with that but at least this one wasn't as bad and 'Promise Me Darkness'. Eagerly awaiting the next book

This series has one of the most unique storylines, and that is what drew me in to begin with.

Promise Me Once is the story of Cash, who we got glimpses of in Promise Me Darkness and Promise Me Light, and Cat. I liked being introduced to the H/h before the war started and seeing the chemistry between them also. The characters and storyline were so well developed I was able to imagine myself in the story right alongside Cash and Cat. I was so into this book it was hard to put down.

Paige has outdone herself with Promise Me Once, and I can't wait for Promise Me Forever.

Wow, this book was i could not put it down. These characters are adept at surviving by their own means, Cat is a woman shut down from romance and love. She uses men like we have seen men use women in other books you have probably read. Cash is a wholesome good man, strong and dependable and when these two meet, they do not just meet they collide like stars in a galaxy. I do not want to go into too much detail about the storyline as it will ruin it, but this story was a brilliant read, about survival, love and letting people in. A great romance story with plenty of action in it as well.

From start to finish, Cash and Cat kept me reading. Love their story and I can't wait for more. Promise me Once is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. You do get glimpses of characters from the other books (if you haven't read them, you will want to now!).

I loved the way the author has created a dark story in an uncontrolled world, full of chaos and fear. The romance of Cash and Cat is anything but predictable and romantic but you still get hooked to each of the feelings, fears and passions that surround them.
The secondary characters also impact their stories.
It was exciting to live with them those dangerous moments, their struggle to survive, their pain for the loss, their joys for reunions.
I was pleasantly surprised by the reading.

Not dystopian romance more like dystopian erotica. So as expected you get repetitive sex scenes and plenty of ‘clenching’ and ‘that hot body’ and ‘large hard and silky’ cocks, ‘strained zippers’, in weird places and times. Like danger about to breakdown the door and they are saying ‘ILU’s’ inside and his ‘zipper is straining’. Didn’t like the writing also.

With the first two books, about Maddie and Ryder, we met Cash. He was a lone survivor, from Maddie’s past, and someone that got colder with each thing he was forced to do in this new world. A world where outside forces put on an EMP bomb, causing the U.S. to go into utter chaos–no electricity, no technology, no media. A country with no idea who to fight against, how to fight, and how to survive on little. I was enraptured with the first two books, and having met Cash in them, I was rabid for more of him.

“I was going to hell, my grandmother said. I was rotten to the core, my stepmother claimed. I was perfect, my dad insisted. I was all of the above and more.”

Cat is not a pink-wearing, smiling, happy-go-lucky girl…No, she’s seen some shit. She’s suffered, she’s been abandoned by those she loved, she’s cold. As the blurb states, she is not someone you like. She’s cold, careless, used…but we all know that people suffer grievances differently, and Cat was no different. As with anyone who suffers trauma of any kind, you learn to build that wall that protects you. And she was the brickmaster building that damn wall. She wanted no part of anyone. And while you may have issues understanding her or, heck, even liking her, you’ll learn to know who she is. And the only person who has the key to that wall is Cash.

“She looked like an angel but I wanted to love her like the devil even if it meant damning my own soul.”

Cash is the southern, hard-working, cowboy. He’s respectful, mature, a gentleman. He knows what it means to be raised on a farm, and it’s a part of him. He likes calm, the expected, and simple–everything the complete opposite of Cat. And even if she’s too high-brow, too high maintenance, and way too prissy, something magnetizes him to her. He doesn’t get it, he wishes, at times, that it would leave him alone, but she calls to him. The sweet, southern gentleman will have to change to survive, to protect those he loves.

“‘You’re worth it, Cat. Remember that. We’re all worthy of love.'”

As with the prior novels, once we entered war time, the pages just flew by. Ms. Weaver is a genius when it comes to writing this war-torn, scary new world that she created. The way the people change, the danger, the love…all of it. And we don’t start in the war, no, we begin when Cash and Cat first meet. We go through their tumultuous relationship, and then the struggles of the war. We see how the war affects each character, how it tears apart trust, and basic human instinct. Oh, and the loss. So much loss. We, as readers, are thrust into the world and you begin to feel torture over their strife. You can feel their pain, feel their fear, suffer their sense of loss of hope. I felt that the beginning was a little slow for me, but once we entered war-time, I was all in. Nothing stopped me from finishing once things kicked off. It does end at a point where it’s a cliffhanger, and their story won’t conclude in this book. Overall, I truly enjoyed Cash’s story, and can’t wait for more!

“‘What does that make you? My prince or my slave?’
‘It makes me your king, sweetheart.'”

Promise Me Once by Paige Weaver is the third book in the amazing series Promise Me. This story follows the every polite but hot cowboy Cash Marshall and snarky, defiant but carefree Cat Phillips as their world's collide prior to the attack that changed their world forever. This book was an amazing read, and I enjoyed reading about Cash and Cat's life before the war that overtook the United States and how they finally meet up again almost 3 years later in a manner that is so completely different from the first time they saw each other. And oh the cliff hanger on this one! I cannot wait to see what comes next in this series, especially once they return to the farm and meet up with Ryder and his family. This book was a 4 star read for me and I would highly recommend it to others.

Cat Philips was living her life as a college student like any other, partying and having a good time with a some classes on the side. Going home with a different man every night, regardless of age or social position had become her mantra; it kept her from really feeling and most importantly from falling in love. Despite having to take care of her younger brother Tate and listening to her other brother Nathan try to tell her she deserved more out of life, Cat continued on her path of self destruction because she felt as though she deserved it. She suffered from the guilt of her boyfriend and best friend's death in an untimely accident that was far from her fault. Her chance meeting with Cash in a bar and his saving her from a too handsy guy led the two most unlikely people to ever connect to go on a date. It is only during that date that Cat starts to feel, and feel is the last thing that she wants to do. Even though the sparks that fly between Cat and Cash are electric, she tells him that it was a mistake and walks away from him.

After returning to school in Austin with her brother and Tate, the unimaginable happens, the Unites States is attacked and left in shambles. A bomb that knocks out all of the electricity, allowing for no communication, no vehicles, no food, changes the world as she knows it and there is only one way to live, do anything to survive. After coming across some unsavory people who seem to be some of many taking advantage of people during this horrifically scary time, Cat completely changes into the person it seems she was always meant to be. She becomes someone strong and indestructable, knowing that it is the only way that she can survive the world as it now is. Accidentally meeting up with Cash's sister, who happened to be her neighbor, Cat and her two brother with Keely set out to travel back to their house where they know it will be safer then staying at her dorm in the city. It was what lies in their path that they must face in order to get there that may lead to more heartache then any of them can handle.

I'm not a princess. I don't like women who are princesses. I don't even like to watch TV or movies with princesses, except Disney classics and the loony but subtly brilliant Cher Horowitz from Clueless. So then Paige Weaver made me read a book about a princess, which I did solely so I could get the scoop on intriguing cowboy Cash introduced in Promise Me Darkness and a part of the cast in Promise Me Light. Enter Caterina, also known as Cat, a spoiled, pampered daughter of a Texas oil tycoon. She treats every man she meets with a blend of haughty and hussy. I couldn't understand why taciturn and lethal Cash from the previous book would even have anything to do with her. But then this was a more laid back, twenty-something Cash, who was acting like a lot of other people his age from before the world ended. Steady, strong and sexy Cash was hot for Cat, and I wanted to see him go about wearing down the polish on her claws.

A substantial part of the narrative is the backstory between Cat and Cash, taking place about the same time the first book in this series, Promise Me Darkness, begins. Weaver spends a lot of time on the initial attraction of their relationship - maybe too much time given the coming apocalypse. However, I have to say I found their standoffs to be very entertaining. The scene in the grocery store with the stock boy and old biddies looking on was priceless. Clearly Cat is driving Cash crazy, and this comes through nicely when the couple is both in and out of their clothes.

In Cat, Weaver has devised a character the reader doesn't initially like. But then Cat doesn't even like herself. Cash makes her....want. He makes her want to hope, to live, to forget, to forgive. And just as these feelings overwhelm her, the world changes.

The second half of the book is a survival story. Cat's toughness serves her well in the new world order. I don't even know when it happened, but I started liking Cat, caring about her struggles and challenges. She became somebody I wanted Cash to have so she could drive him crazy forever. Unfortunately, forever doesn't happen at the end of this book. It ended sort of like a season finale in a TV show where some details are wrapped up, but others are not. I will be tuning in next season for the continuation of Cash and Cat.

This book really took me fora loop. I was really surprised that it started off as a love story and then it jumped to a war being erupted. I mean, I was jumping from my seat as I was reading this book. I totally loved how it made a 180 while I was reading it. This was really something different, I've never read anything like this before and I have to say that it was a really, really great read.

Cat is a gorgeous girl who doesn't think she deserves love after she caused the death of her boyfriend and best friend. She blamed herself for those deaths. I don't know if I could say that she was really to blame for these deaths or not but when someone dies in your watch, you basically do feel responsible so I can see why she felt this way.

Cat would turn to men to hide her pain, she would use them and let them use her and then she would move on. She didn't want to feel any emotions or love She just wanted to have sex because she thought that by having sex it would make her escape how she really felt. That is until she meets Cash. Cash is one hell of a sexy cowboy and he started making Cat feel things that she didn't want to feel. So what does Cat do....what Cat knows how to do best -- she runs but what she doesn't know is that chaos is about to happen and the worst thing will come upon the whole town/city of Austin, Texas.

This is the part that really scared the crap out of me. I wasn't sure if an apocalypse was happening or what, but if that were the case then I was going to stop because those types of books really freak me out -- literally! But my curiosity got the best of me and I continued reading, I had to find out what in the world was happening with this town so I continued on. And let me just tell you that I was happy I continued reading because not only did this turn out to be a love story, but it also turned out to be a story about struggling and surviving. It had some sad moments in the book because there was also loved ones that die to defend their loved ones in this book. I had tears in my eyes while reading this book because that is something that I would never want to go through. I thought this was a stand alone, but there is a cliffhanger at the end and now I'm eager to read the next book because jeez louise, I want to find out what happens with Cash and Cat's journey, do they make it back home safely? Do they run into more trouble trying to get home? What other obstacles will get in their way.

So much could happen and I'm sure it will and I'm ready for the next book!

5.0 stars for this wonderful, exhilarating and fast pace read

I liked this book until the '3 years later' part at around the 65%/70% mark.

Up until that bit, I did like how unusual this love story was with the end-of-the-world plot line. It was new, unexpected and kept me on the end of my seat while reading. The writing was well done and I was hooked from the sample. I also liked that the author was not afraid to kill characters .

The sexual chemistry between Cat and Cash was evident. However, their 'love' was not as epic for me. In the span of 4 years (that's a generous 4 years), they had seen/met each other maybe 3 times before they declared that they were in love. And those 3 times that they saw each other, they hardly talked! She was a closed off bitchy manwhore and he seemed to get his rocks off putting her in place by sexually advancing on her. The only deep thing they talked about (briefly!) was her dead ex-boyfriend. Btw-I liked him a lot more than her. I get that the hard times they were in made them live life to the fullest and say things that they may not have said otherwise, but I just didn't feel LOVE between the two. Insane sexual chemistry? Absolutely. Did they care for each other? Yeah. But love? Ehhhhh.

The war against the US was both a brilliant plot line to use in a romance novel and sort of half-assed. I was thoroughly enjoying how the two were surviving, but I really didn't like where it ended and then jumped 3 years. I guess the book could be divided into three parts: before the war, the war, and 3 years later. The war bit ended on a super sensitive subject matter and just kind of ended. It seemed like the author didn't really want to put the work in anymore and instead just decided to jump years and fill in the blanks in the third part. I think with this kind of story, you either have to chose the romance to be at the forefront, or the war. Usually with war type books, the romance is there, but isn't center stage. It gets to be too much when both are so prominent.

So I commend the author for trying, but it missed the mark for me. The three star rating is for the first and second parts of the book, which I really did enjoy reading. I know that there is a second book to this story, but if it continues like the third part, I don't know if I want to read.

Edit: I don't know if its's worth mentioning or not, but I read this one first in the promise me series-I didn't realize it was the third book. I am starting Promise me Darkness and I am not sure if the US war plot is intertwined with those characters as well. Just thought I would mention this.

*ARC REVIEW FOR ABIBLIOPHOBIA ANONYMOUS BOOK REVIEWS BLOG*

I waited forever for this book, and finally we got it. If you've read the previous book's in this series, then you know what you're in for. I love the situation these book's hold. The world falling apart. Life as you know it is over. It's survive, fight or die. It's everyone for their self.

In Promise Me Once, we follow well to do, little miss rich girl Cat. And the rugged, sexy, hard working cowboy Cash.

Cat is running away from her past, the memories and nightmares, by drowning her self in alcohol, and giving herself to any guy, just to forget. But meeting Cash will change everything.

" She looked like an angel but I wanted to love her like the devil even if it meant damning my own soul."- Cash

Both Cash and Cat will have to fight for their lives, survive the terrorist that took over America. Cat will become a different girl, not the easy girl she once was.

Cash will harden, turn to a savage and is determined to find his sister. He's gave up hope of knowing about Cat, the girl he had one date with, but made him feel more in that one night than his whole life.

" You did something to me, Cash, and I haven’t recovered."- Cat

Will Cash find what he's sat out for? Can Cat survive this new life? The world is in chaos, it's time to fight.

When I started this book, I was a bit let down. It didn't start our fast like Promise me Darkness. The fall out doesn't happen immediately, it takes time to get there. Not until 42% in does everything happen. In this book, we actually get to see what's going on in the world. No guessing. While reading their story, I try to put myself in their shoes. How would I act and be if the world we know crumbled? We get both characters povs, see what they're battling. I had to stop and think about one scene particular. You haven't had a real bath in three-year's, you're dirty, but you go at it. That's just tuck, lol. I love this world Paige Weaver made. It's so different than other book's out there. I'm a huge fan of this series and hoping we don't have to wait forever for the next, like we had to for this one.

****** WARNING *******
This review does not contain spoilers but does contain a massive amount of fan girling and gushing towards Paige Weaver!!

5 Cowboy Stars

Wow I can't believe it's been 2 years since I came across the first book in this series Promise me darkness Ryder & maddie's first book,I remember it like it was yesterday I had been in such a book slump and was in desperately in need of something different when I stumbled upon Paige Weaver's debut novel and little did I know that book would become one of my all time favorite books,,oh and Ryder would still to this day be my ultimate book boyfriend:-D Its because of authors like Paige Weaver I became a blogger after reading promise me darkness I wanted the world to know all about this amazing book and not long after I started my first blog that Scottish chicks book reviews.

Ok enough of the gushing on to cash and cats book promise me once
So my first thought before starting the book was oh holy s@@t I got an arc then my second thought was how in the hell is she gona beat Ryder & maddie's story the answer in my little opinion is there is no comparison.
Cash & cat's are polar opposite from Ryder & maddie and thats what made the story work for me,when we first meet cat she's home on vacation from college and we can tell straight away this girl is broken as well as being a spoiled brat,I'm gona be honest it took me a while to warm up to cat,I had to keep reminding myself the girl was broken and had been through a hell of a lot.Cash was completely different I instantly fell in love with the big sexy cowboy what I loved even more was his interactions with cat he just refused to take any of her bullshit from the beginning. The Chemistry between cash & cat was off the charts.what I loved most was the diffrences in both of there characters after the 3 year separation can I just say Ryder you better watch out coz someone is closing in on the top alpha spot!! So if you haven't guessed I adored this book it has everything I expect in a Paige Weaver book plus more and to Paige I say I need promise me forever now!!

Two years! This is how long I’ve been waiting for this book. And it’s finally here!!

The story starts before the war, before the world as we know it came to an end.

Catarina is spoiled, rich, beautiful but also damaged. She can have any man she wants and she knows that.

She’s not interested in relationships, her motto being bag them and leave them.

Then, she meets this one guy…

Cash is a sexy cowboy who works hard and takes care of his farm.

Here, we get to see another side of him, we get to know how he was BEFORE.

And he was so different but such an event can change anyone. The chemistry between him and Catarina is strong but, before they can discover what they could have, everything goes haywire.

I loved this series from the beginning.

Promise Me is one of those stories that gets under your skin and makes you stop and think.

Catarina and Cash will have to learn to survive in a world where there’s only darkness and where no one is safe, they’ll have to take care of their families and maybe, one day, they’ll find their way back to each other.

In Promise Me Darkness & Promise Me Light we meet a cold, calculating, lethal Cash and in Promise Me Once you’ll find out what made him turn into that kind of person.

His journey, just like everyone else’s, hasn’t been easy and he’s done and seen a lot of things.

All in all, I can say that I loved this book. Paige sure knows how to tell a story and how to create fascinating characters.

Promise Me is one of the best series I’ve read and it can be counted among the firsts on my favorites list.

If you want something different, something where the world is not perfect and the characters have to worry about something else than what they’re going to wear the next day, this is the book, the series for you.

You won’t regret giving it an opportunity.

I highly recommend it.

Happy Reading!!
