For twenty five years Juliet Monroe has experienced just how cruel life can be. Abandoned as a child. Abused as a teen. She's seen more than her fair share of demons.
Can she ever recover? Can she find the strength to make it back?
I'm Leigh Stone, I live in Northern Ireland, just outside the capital city of Belfast, in a house I share with my teenage daughter, and our personal zoo (1 Labrador mix, 3 cats, and 2 rabbits!).
I'm first and foremost a reader, and a fast reader at that, often devouring books in a single sitting over a period of hours. I have always had aspirations to write and become a published author, but as a teenager I was encouraged to look for a different profession, as being an author "wouldn't pay the bills."
It was that reading that lead a friend of mine to suggest that I had read so many of those books that I could probably write my own! It seemed like a good idea, and I thought that I would give it a try :) a few months later Lex's Melody was well underway, and the rest as they say is history!
Pulled Apart is a story of young love gone sour when Juliet Monroe becomes the target of abuse and rape by her manipulating boyfriend Oliver Watson. It's a heart wrenching read but also one of hope and survival. I love the Belfast Bound books Leigh Stone has created and can't wait for the next book in this series.
Juliet has been through hell and survived. We got a brief taste of her story in Melodic Minor but Ms. Stone decided to give us the full unabridged version in Pulled Apart. Juliet was dating Oliver who we find out was a controlling sadistic man, who raped and brutalized her and made her think it was her fault. When she tried to break away from him, he didn't make it easy for her. This story was a dark read and at times hard, but Leigh Stone is a brilliant story teller, she draws you into Juliet's world and tears your heart out. This book was just as amazing as her other two, and definitly worth every tear shed. Highly recommend this book and this author
This story is powerful and by no means is this an easy story to tell.
This is about a survival of the worst kind. Juliet Monroe was first mentioned in 'Blefast Bound book 1 'Lex's Melody' she is the Personal assistant of Alex Matthews.
Juliet tells us the story of what happened to her during her 18, 19 and 20 years of age. A young girl who meets the handsome and older college guy Oliver Watson. The manipulation, the cruel remarks, how Ollie prayed on Juliet's weakness and twisted things to make her doubt herself and believe it was all her fault.
This story is written from Juliet's POV.
The author had me captivated right from the beginning, although know what the story is about, when the lovely Juliet meets Ollie for the first time I wanted to climb in my kindle. He was charming and lovely nice and sweet, and when Ollie had Juliet's trust that is when he starts to change, so naturally she thinks its all her fault because he was not like that at first.
This wasn't just written well, the author pulled every emotion you can think of into this book, she really did her homework because as I was reading, every page turn, I felt like it was happening to me. You suffer and cry with Juliet all the way through it.
Reading about this subject is difficult and I can only imagine what it was like writing it , but that is what is amazing about Leigh Stone, it was done with respect for the victim and Juliet had something horribly done to her, but she is no victim and that strength holds this whole book together. There are not enough words to describe what Ollie is, but the strength that Juliet finds to move on, keep going and not get swallowed up in darkness and shut out the world is strength and courage she has had to have with the help of her foster mum Alice and best friend Amy.
When I have read books about this subject they never go into detail what happens after. This books gives us what happens after her rape, after the court and the struggle and anxiety that is still with Juliet. She fights everyday, when she has a panic attack at work her best friend and boss Alex helps her to calm down and to breathe. He doesn't judge her, tell her to get it together he helps her deal. This really is a fantastic book.
This is only 60 pages, but I found that it was all I could take. It was strong from the outset and throughout, so the length, for me, was just right. Now we know her background, the triggers she has, now I'm hoping that we will get another story where Juliet falls in love. Her survival story is gut wrenching, heart-breaking but truly remarkable. What Juliet has gone through and what she has accomplished I do feel very proud of her and I hope she has a love of her own and a happily ever after.
I didn't know what to expect when I started reading Pulled Apart.. I knew it was a story about being in an abusive relationship and rape. I never thought it would turn out to be a story about Juliet's journey to come back from such a horrendous act of violence. She learns how strong she is in mist of her recovering. She has many obstacles in her way and with courage and help from those she loves and trust, she fights her way to come through this terrible ordeal.
Pulled Apart is a must read!! The story flows and is a quick read! Leigh Stone's writing is amazing and I can't wait to read more from her..
Ms. Stone does a beautiful job tackling a very difficult subject. Juliet is a beautiful soul broken by the man who supposedly loved her. Ms. Stone's characters are well developed and though the story is about a tough subject, she handled it with tact and care. Ultimately this is a story of survival and hope. Once you understand Juliet and her past, you will cheer her courage and her heart. Readers met Juliet in Lex's Melody and Melodic Minor and adored her. This is the beginning of her story, there will be more to come.
Where do I start? Juliet Munroe is one incredible young woman. Her story until now, a little in the dark, Pulled Apart, brings us up to speed on her history with Oliver. The man who she doted on and adored. The man who treated her so poorly despite her already blighted start in life...
Their relationship was good initially but as we see the deterioration of her friendships and links to anyone other than him we truly see his true colours. We start to hate this man... ---------- Excerpt: He was definitely that kind of man. Controlling, possessive, and who would stop at nothing to keep what he thought belonged to him, his to toy with as he saw fit. Something worthless, and less than whole. -----------
His treatment of Juliet was abysmal. From the emotional abuse to the physical... --------- Excerpt: I hadn't wanted or welcomed his actions. I was violated in the worst way possible by someone I thought I loved, someone I thought was supposed to care about me in return. Nothing would ever be the same again. ---------
But after being released on bail, of course he goes after Juliet. He knows something vital about their relationship and would use it against her...even if it does cost him his and her life. He truly is one evil man.
As Juliet picks up the pieces of her life after surviving his worst attack, he takes much more from her than he will ever know. --------- Excerpt: I didn't eat. I barely existed. Oliver had left me to barely exist in a hollow shell. ---------
But after a sentence nothing short of what he deserved, he does something which Juliet doesn't know whether to feel relieved about or angered by. He would get to walk away, but she would never have that.. ---------- Excerpt: I can never escape what he did, and he has...I am still here, and I'm hanging on...and he gets to walk away from the responsibility of his actions, and will never have to truly suffer like I will forever. He's taken everything... ----------
Her utter desolate emotions are heartbreaking and her strength was astounding. As this young woman pieces her life back together, despite all the anxieties and pressures she does it. And makes some friends along the way. First and foremost, the one and only, incredible Alex; --------- Excerpt: I cemented a firm friendship with the man I worked for, and I felt like the hole that had frequented felt like it would swallow my soul got a little smaller.... Alex, my boss, and one of my closest friends, took me under his wing, and his strong dominance helps me when I panic even now....with their help I face my future... ----------
It was an absolute honour to read this and despite feeling emotionally hung out to dry after reading this I think just shows the incredible talents of Leigh Stones writing. Her ability to get across Juliet's turmoil and desperation, whilst making it a story of a true survivor was one I will always remember. I just loved it. Five stars isn't enough!
*Review by Susan **For over 18s - warning: does contain strong sexual and physical violence for those who suffer triggers or are emotionally distressed by such things - please take care ***beta read and reviewed
Leigh never ceases to amaze me. She has done a fantastic job tackling the very hard subject of rape . The amount of emotion that runs through this story is fantastic . To tell a story of first love and inject such violence into it as well is awe inspiring . This starts of as a pure and simple love story where Juliet meets Oliver and they fall in love . He is her first love , her first everything but as you read on the story turns dark , so dark, and it's not just the rape thats dark , it's the emotional side too that makes Juliet doubt herself . I'm not going to say any more , I don't want to give to much away to those who haven't read it yet . Leigh has such a way with words and reading this story just makes you realise how talented a writer she is . Well done Leigh . A perfect addition to the Belfast Bound Series .
wow this is a powerful read, it's Juliet's story of her rape and how amazing she is but it gives you a real sense of her friendship and how she has survived, very emotional so be prepared. There is so much in this definitely a must read, amazing writing to be able to bring this in the way I has.
what a great story, but .. 2 short Leigh! 2 short! You are a really good writer, you had my interest, I'm looking forward to reading the other books of you! I know I have the 'advantage' to know you, and what I always thought is the truth .. keep on doing what you are doing ! you are really talented .. and someday .. you are gonna be a famous writer and then I'm gonna say .. jip I knew that girl !
Leigh Stone has once again brought to life her wonderful characters from Belfast Bound. This would not be an easy subject to write but as always Leigh gives it her all. This is a journey of two people Juliet Monroe and Oliver Watson, Oliver is Juliet's first love and she falls completely under his spell, manipulating her until most of her friends disappear! It then turns even nastier. This is a story about rape and how friends can help to pull you out of frightening panic attacks due to terrifying circumstances! Juliet has a lot more to tell so I'm hoping we will see more of this beautiful strong woman. Once again another great book from this wonderful Author.
From the blurb, I knew this author was writing about something that maybe a difficult read for some, yet Leigh Stone writes it incredibly well. She writes Juliet's heartbreaking journey, following her traumatic experiences at the hands of Oliver, with brutal honesty, yet coats it with hope. Hope for Juliet, thus hope for the reader. The Belfast Bound series is gritty, ballsy and brilliant. I look forward to more from this author. 5 well deserved stars from me.
